In this video, Mike teaches you the secret to a perfect takeaway in just 3 simple movements. The Takeaway is arguably the most important element in the swing. Without proper mechanics in the takeaway, the whole swing can be misaligned and off plane. Mike goes over three simple moves: Pressure with the lead pinky, initiating with the lead shoulder and a soft/ relaxed trail elbow.

what an awesome instructional video, I was working on something like this today. By concentrating on having my left shoulder over the ball while I'm at the top of my swing, I noticed I naturally turn the same as you're describing here. I felt more joined or closer together with my arms/elbows at the top of my swing, that along with incorporating the pinky squeeze (which I have seen before) makes a big difference. Great job Mike. I will reluctantly share this video with my fellow golfers.

'Pinky squeeze' explained/does so many things I was missing in a single tip: getting the 45deg wrist hinge early, getting clubhead higher on takeaway without coming inside too much, flattening the left wrist. I couldn't do all those things separately, superb!!

Unbelievable! I am 78 years old and my game has been slipping away since I was 75. At age 72 my handicap was steady between 8-9. I could still play at 6,500 yards. Then at age 73 the slipping away started. Until 3 days ago I was saying to myself ok your playing good golf is done. I said, that is ok, I had a good run. Then I saw your video. I went out back in my yard and loosened up. Started slowly and then it happened. Solid strikes, 20-25 more distance with driver and great control. Played today and shot 83, with 2 3 putts on healing greens. This absolutely works. It gives me a few more years of competitive golf.
    Thanks.

The solution for me on these two issues, along with a few others possibly, is the simple thought of where my hands need to be in proper shaft lean and exiting left. Before I take it back it’s the last check point or thought in my routine. Works like a charm for me. Everything just happens naturally when I know where my hands need to get to.

I played well for years with not presetting my elbow but finally figured it out so for me it was the pinky. Completely 100% new to me!

Put the pinky move into action today. Wow! Backswing was way more connected and comfortable. I am working on getting hands to go more around instead of away during backswing, Made a few swings with better results than anticipated, thanks!

Thanks for sharing that’s awesome! Find a good visual for your hand path path on the take away. You could look at your trail foot toes and be sure your hands go over the grass outside of your toes!

Press left 3 pinkys and turn left shoulder same time for backswing. Set up trail elbow like give blood.the conncted means, right elbow in front of right ribs.

What a game changing video! I’m going through a grip change and suddenly found myself taking the clubhead too far inside. Slowly learning how to properly re-hinge and this was a perfect video.
As long as the trail hand stays “on top” during the takeaway, the clubhead should stay neutral/slightly closed in case the forearms get too active?

I was just discussing that pinky grip with my cousin last week. There are times I've noticed my lead pinky's grip is somewhat weak and it leads exactly to what you were saying about no leverage. I've noticed that these tend to be weaker shots and may be the recent cause of my open clubface (every other part of the swing being solid). Will definitely be more attentive to this!

Loving the content you guys keep it up! If only I wasn't down under I'd be in for lessons in a heartbeat!
I have a hideous trunk and hip start of the takeaway... looks like my arms follow whereas most guys look like shoulders and chest rotate first.
Have you covered anything like this before?

Using your left arm and wrist throughout the swing, is it ok to assume the right arm is just to hang on and ensure swing plane correct?

Love all your videos but the pinky tip has totally changed my consistency. 2 days in a row at the range hitting pure strikes. Focusing on the left arm has allowed my right arm to flow in front of my body. Can't wait to hit the course on Monday.
