I've been hunting trail arm explanation vids as well as watching slowmo pro swings over and over and this is probably the easiest, most detailed explanation I've found. Thank you.
Thank you so so much for the kind words and happy to have someone that's been around the game as long as I have been. Well, you've got me by a few years BUT still happy to have you:)
I am 67 and started playing in 78. I play from hcap 4. Have always been fighting a slight cross at the top and a steep shaft on the down swing and nobody has been able to crack the code for me before. I have good timing at impact and livet with that. Your combination of setting the trail arm before turning back give me the right feeling of where the club should be at the top and keeping the shoulder back while lowering the club does the trick. Thanks again
Happy to have such a long term golf nut on the channel. We will get along nicely. Let me know if you need any help or have any questions along the way.
I could not understand why I kept hitting my driver solid but straight right (into the woods). I applied your video to my drives and my irons. What a huge difference!!!!! Thanks again!!! That really helped. WOW!!!
Chris I have to give you an A on this lesson. This is the best explanation I have seen on trail arm and ive seen a bunch on this subject. I’m currently watching the US Open all the golfers are doing the movement. Thanks so much!
Thomas, I have to give YOU an A on this comment because it always feels good getting an A on my side. Thank you for watching and hope you enjoy the rest of the US Open AND you have much success with this drill:)
This is an eye opener for me , I always tilt my rt shoulder along with the arm , no other coach ever said about this move , no wonder I have been very inconsistent in my swings .Thanks
Glad you found some information that can help you overcome too much tilt in the downward half. Wishing you much success with the drill and let me know if you have any questions along the way.
I am absolutely blown away by this. Went to the range and followed the process (a bit less diligently), the strikes were so powerful with little effort. Irons, hybrid and 3wood perfect, but duck hooking the driver. Do you have any video for that? I think I started going too in to out at some point!
There is a 4 step driver video on the channel that was released inside the last 6 weeks. Maybe check that out and see if it helps you at all. If not, it sounds like you might be creating too much secondary spine tilt (spine leaning away from the target) which shifts the swing plane more in to out and can lead to a higher rate of closure in the club face which = snap Hook pretty quickly. Hope that helps.
Awesome. I like the feeling of lowering a bicep curl. I think Xander Shauffle has the purest form of this move. Cool thing about this too is if you do slow motion reps in front of a camera or mirror you’ll notice how this keeps the club shaft on plane.
Thanks! On downswing, open up the hip to pull the club down until elbow reaches the belt loop. Shaft needs to be parallel to the ground at this position and most importantly the shoulders are still parallel to the target line. Priceless!!!!
Great Video. Athletic Motion did a video on the right arm awhile back and it’s very similar. Practice this. You will find the sweet spot consistently. 💪🏼
It's hard to argue with his backswing position because of what he produces. However, I would in most cases, try to get it a fraction more upright so that he can get the arms a touch more out in front of him on the way down. He goes bad when he gets a little stuck and starts hitting big overdraws.
Say bye bye to early dumping of lag!! Say hello to the timestamps below my friends... 0:00 - Intro 1:33 - Right arm function 3:28 - Common faults 4:29 - Step 1 6:05 - Step 2 8:16 - Step 3
The right arm or dominant arm only swing works like a gem, in terms of direction and sweet contact. However I feel that I get a little less distance. Any remedy for that? Tks.
If your speed came down, then we would need to see how you’re utilizing leverage in the swing…are you preserving lag and are you using the ground to your best ability?
@@MyGolfDNA probably not, because it's a new swing concept for me. But I'll get better distance as I persevere. Meanwhile the direction is straight on, I'll take it. Tks for the advice.
So if these set of movements are new to someone. And you begin to nail the positions at speed, but the ball flight is left or right. are we looking at grip strength to straighten things out or manipulating the club face during these movements? Asking for a friend.
I’d be looking at the grip and how the wrists are being used in the swing for sure. I’d also be looking in the hitting area to see when the release is starting and is the student creating some sort of high rate of closure in the face which is the most common thing we deal with daily.
Change is not going to feel comfortable out of the gate. Give it some time and then as you get some reps under your belt, then try to make the movement more athletic and freed up and you’ll see things come together. Hope that helps you.
Yep. Anything before that is just me talking about what and why we're doing the drill. Time stamps are also available in the description and in the comments in most of my videos. Thank you.
I personally have found by doing the drills in a stepwise fashion I don’t have any swing thoughts in my head? Everyone responds differently to coaching.
I personally have found by doing the drills in a stepwise fashion I don’t have any swing thoughts in my head? Everyone responds differently to coaching.
Don't like this at all. The arms do not start the down swing. MY STEP DOES like when you throw a ball. When throw a ball you STEP and THROW and you don't need that trail elbow that far in front of your hip. STEP and THROW like you are fielding a grounder and throwing to first base or if you ever were a soft ball pitcher.
I think you missed the critical part of the video where I said, this is NOT the movement that starts the downswing. This is a drill to teach players to feel isolated movements from the arms vs. the shoulders and this move being taught should happen after you start to shift the weight to the lead side. The shift will create some stretch in the lead shoulder which will help get the arms moving quicker in the downward half. I address that in the very next video to come out after this one.
Man, I apologize that you feel like my videos are presented as a joke. I work really hard to help people play this game and I work hard to help people sift through good info vs. stuff that isn't good and safe on the body. Thanks for the feedback and wishing you much success with your game.
Thank you SOOOOO much!!! This was an incredible help for my swing - was struggling for years to get the right moves and spots...
Always a great pleasure of mine to help you and others out with info like this:)

Glad you found the video helpful and thank you for taking time to let me know. I appreciate it very much so.
I have played golf for more than 40 years and this drill and approach to the down swing is the best I have ever heard. Than you

This is one of the best golf lessons I’ve ever watched on TH-cam. I think this will definitely help me make better contact and accuracy with my swing.
This is one of the best explanations and demonstration of the golf swing I’ve ever seen….
Well thank you very much for those kind words! I appreciate it very much so!!!

BOOOOOM! Go on with it!!!!
I knew about the pump drill however this was the first time someone ever explained the correct protocol was, thank you for sharing. 😊
Always happy to help! Please let me know if you have questions along the way.

This is my issue casting club and leaving it behind a bit, not staying in the pocket with the elbow. Nice work.
Thank you! You are not alone with this issue at all:)

Actually most of coach talk about it just you could not do it😅
It’s Ben Hogan’s magic elbow. Looks easy, but it’s incredibly hard.
Never ever ever has a golf drill been explained as well as this. This step by step explanation 🤯

Thanks. I’ve been after an exact explanation of this sequence for decades.
Probably the best explanations and the best drill on this specific part of the swing ! Thank’you 🙏
Thank you for the kind words!!!
Excellent job. Retired PGA professional 55 yrs
Thank you and I hope you're enjoying the retired life in the shade:)
Really good addition to the two handed lag and compression drill video you did. Thanks Chris.
Very impressed. Off to try this now, at the practice tee.
Glad you liked it! Hope the practice session was a beauty.

Bingo!!!! Best comment of the day!!! Thank you for watching. Hope you join us for more in the near future.
@Chester- lowering a bicep curl. I'm stealing that one.
This is the best lesson that I’ve seen. Really helped my entire game.
Thank you so much for the great comment. I love to help people play this game and hearing stuff like this is like icing on the cake for me.
This is the drill I needed during these mid-season backslides. 🤣
A good mid season dustup can do us all some good. Hope this gets you back on track and shooting some digi's.
The Best🏌️♀️! Thank you so much for this wonderful video !!!!Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹
Glad you enjoyed the video!!! Greetings back to you from the US of A:)
Bro … you did an awesome job of explaining… and provided a practical drill … thanks 🙏🏿 for emphasizing how that right arm and move independently…
Thank YOU so much for the kind words and glad you like the drill! Let me know if you have any questions or need any help along the way.

You're most welcome! Thanks for watching and hope you join us for more.
Great work guys
NICE.. LOVE THIS!!!
Get to work:)
First time viewer. I like the way you 'splain stuff!
Just great
Excellent.
Hello, should this movement with the right arm also be done with the 9-Iron and Wedges? Regards
You betcha. You can do and should do this movement with ALL clubs in the bag. You can even do it with a shovel if you want:)
@@MyGolfDNA lol !!!
great drill.
Thank you 🙏
Excellent video...
Thank you!
Important question. Do people like Rory who's back swing top is pretty flat skip the right shoulder extention or extend it less?

Have you ever seen "Scotties Grip"? I'm sure allot of people have been put in a wrist casts trying to pull it off.
Imagine trying to put a cast on his right leg/foot!

So it’s like a bicep curl going up and then same bicep curl feeling going down?
Yep but with a whole lot less effort.
Is for drives also? Thanks.
Sure
Release?
It feels really uncomfortable to try to tuck the right elbow near the belt buckle.

I wish I had seen this before I got to 2:15 😢

How can I possibly make a golf swing with 25 different club positions and swing thoughts in my head.?!?!!!’

This may be right, but the problem is that we are not Gumby. The ideas have to be finalized, or packaged for us to be useful.

Too much talking.... Love the principle of the swing, spot on theory and great practice insights.
