    Russ - I think you are missing a huge factor. The reason why old school trainers put emphasis on wearing 14, 16 oz gloves is bc that extra weight served as resistance training to build shoulder strength and develop torque on your punches, in addition to safety. Then when you switch to lighter gloves you can practice speed and explosion in preparation for a fight. The problem with today's gloves is that synthetic material is light and aero dynamic that you don't feel the weight. If you are not fighting then I would agree that a focus on cushioning is more important, but if you compete then nothing beats a good pair of heavy 16 oz gloves to get you ready....

      Is it ok to get a 20 oz glove to improve my conditioning? or are there other options. Im looking for something that doesnt extend the glove to much, so my natural street fighting sense of reach is impeded, but conditions me adequately.

    • @hassanx9423
      @hassanx9423 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Old school trainers We used bag gloves back then . Also technique is done by throwing the punches on the bag and shadow boxing and strength you get through pushups sit-ups and total body conditioning

      @Nikolaij Brouiller I know this is an old comment but why is skipping rope bro science? I definitely felt lighter on my feet than when I started and skipping rope had a play in that for sure

    • @792bnz
      @792bnz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You said the problem with the synthetic material is light, then why not add more weight by adding more padding? I think you glossed over Russ' point. He has no issue with adding weight because of the synthetic materials, just put the right materials in the right place. More weight by cushioning is the most ideal to protect both fighters. The real dangers come in fight night gloves that let your knuckles poke thru because newer cushions are so soft. They act more like horsehair than a typical foam and allow your wraps to be felt thru the glove. Ouch!

    He is right. To put it simply, you can use any weight glove to train as long as you feel comfortable, and in sparring you wear one that is nice to your sparring partners face. you might have a 14oz glove that is better than a 16oz glove, for sparring.

    Can you please explain to me why are these Everlast MX gloves being used more and more by power punchers like Canelo , Cotto, and former fighter Maidana ? When mayweather jr fought maidana, he did not let Maidana wear that type of glove because of the padding. Is it because of the material of horse hair that is more powerful than regular molded foam or is it the actual padding ? Is it an advantage to have a horse hair Everlast glove vs lets say a regular foam grant or reyes glove ? Should horse hair MX gloves be banned in pro fights ?

    • @okcrlrdho6397
      @okcrlrdho6397 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      they have a combonation of horse hair and padding that they developed.....horse hair gives weight and the padding gives some protection...thats why its considerd a punchers glove...if you have strong hands then you're good but can damage them easily....but ive only seen canelo with them the others fighters could of been using the some other everlast glove but i might be wrong

    I don’t know what point you’re trying to make. Weight does matter. Padding does change based on weight. Glove quality also matters

    • @HulkVahkiin
      @HulkVahkiin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is saying the padding isn't in proportion to the weight of the glove....I think.
      Edit: It's actually everything as you said, but it's more like a 16oz glove has the padding of a 14oz glove 'kind of thing.

      no less than 16 oz , you like I are heavyweight , after hitting the heavy bag for weeks you will probably get bruse knuckles if you get anything less than that. if you are heavy handed and hit hard I would go with 18 oz gloves for added cushion. wrap your hands well .

    Id rather have my kids spar with 14 oz because with 10oz they're throwing too fast. Weight=velocity of punch=power. The higher weight the gloves the slower the punch velocity. The gloves just being heavy does not directly contribute to more power in your punches.

  • @TerryBollea1
    @TerryBollea1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    unfortunantly Russ, I HAVE to focus on the weight, because companies, like yours, size their gloves by weight. If order a 10oz glove, it simply wont fit. But if I get a 16 oz glove, it will. Please change this so I DONT have go around with 2 extrs pounds on my already 255 lb frame. Thanks.

    He just wants the money to keep rolling in the company he's backing to buy more watches for his arms,I'm on to your scheme ;)In all fairness tho he does have half the truth, padding is very important for sparring to protect your partner. But in my opinion weight does matter as well to minimize your speed and power your throwing even if it's only by a fraction to protect your partner.and it increases your speed when you use lighter gloves for an actual bout because your use to heavier gloves.

    • @tinkertanner165
      @tinkertanner165 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jr AD8 speed n power means nothing if youre punched with a pillow. hence the reason sparring gloves are nice n cushy and bag gloves are not. 16oz bag gloves look tiny compared to 16oz sparring gloves. you totally misunderstood this guys point. You also dont need heavier training gloves to increase your speed when in a bout, i.e back when i trained in the 80s n 90s we used wrist weights that were waaaaaay more effective. 2lb wrist weights were used alot back then. Made u hella fast when using 16oz sparring gloves or ring gloves.
