- Ethiopian long distance track and road running athlete. Known for his remarkable versatility, Gebrselassie achieved major competition wins at distances between 1500 metres and marathon, moving from outdoor, indoor and cross country running to road running in the latter part of his career. He has broken 25 world records and won numerous Olympic and World Championship titles, and is widely considered one of the greatest distance runners in history.

Gebrselassie is probably the best runner of all time. The lightness of his running style and the big smile on his face is really inspirational. When I go running and start to feel tired and my legs feel heavy I sometimes picture myself running like Gebrselassie and it normally makes me feel a lot lighter and energized :)

Have you noticed that Haile has only daughters? Long distance runners tend to have more daughters than sons.
I'm a Canadian and I have been inspired by Gebrselassie since I started running in my high school years. A true king of the running world if there ever was one. Thank you for posting this great documentary of one a running legend.

I think that El Guerrouj is better than him. He beat him in the World Youth Championships in 1992, and he later beat him in the 3000. El Guerrouj is a legend.

@Spartank43x ...i don't see where the shame is....This kind of people emerge once in a generation. Others follow on his footsteps to make it better. So I guess this man is God fearing man running all tracks and highways successfully breaking every record. So the same instinct that he believed in and helped him to break all the recors now adviced him to retire or "it's time to stop". He is not a politcian, he is just a decorated athlete. So I wish him success in his future endeavours.
Sethqat, I don't really know what grievance you have against Haile Gebreselassie or distance running, but I can tell you two things: one, the people who participate in this is not "a small bunch." There were over 40000 people lined up in that opening Berlin Marathon shot... and thousands more in other marathons as well as in smaller/ larger distance races. Two, unless we can argue of Haile's successor Kenenisa, he is without a doubt the greatest long distance runner. His credentials show that.
@BoldRW haha thats actually pretty ironic cause i work in a store, and I specialize in shoes, and shoe fitting. But yea, I was just curious to see... it seems like he just uses a basic neutral shoe for easy runs... i fig'd he would use a lightweight perf. trainer instead.

@Throred yes.. you can have perfect structure u can have perfect compostion... if u dont put in the work u will never be the best --> not in profesional level ... he ran 10km to school and 10km since he was like ten....
@beanpatch7 Please don't choose shoes based on other people. Go to a specialty running store to see what type of shoe you need. Or, barefoot running may tickle your fancy

a true legend holding 25 world records and as he says "am addicted to running" he is undoubtably the king of distance running. I saw him yesterday at the Dubai marathon and he was all smiles....

@TomsMVP On a professional level, you need the perfect structure/composition. In addition you need the _incredible hard work_. But you can't win with hard work alone.
