I know a lot of people hate this new amt trend that's going on but it is really useful for people who are physically impaired. My friend only uses scooters because he cant shift with his foot. Good news that one of the big four Japanese manufacturers has finally made cruise control available in their middleweight platform. I expect this will soon follow in a revised Tracer-7 and maybe the Tenere, which should shake up Honda to include it on the Transalp and 750 siblings, Suzuki on the V-Strom 800 and GSX8R/S, and perhaps Kawasaki on their 650 range (although I can see Kawaski increasing displacement for this range). Aprillia seems to have led the way with the Tuareg 660, then with Triumph launching a new Tiger 800 a couple of days ago (with cruise as standard), this all helps pile pressure on the rest to make cruise control available on more affordable bikes. With so many average speed traps around, this feature is becoming essential.

    • @Vis_Maior
      @Vis_Maior 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

My thoughts exactly. Cruise control should be a given on any mid-range or top-range touring/sport touring bike.

I considered the '24 when getting my first bike but decided against it because it did feel a little dated and I hated the look of the huge dash sticking back towards the rider. This update fixes pretty much every gripe I had with that bike and modernizes it a lot so I would absolutely consider it now. Should be under $12k here in Canada, a great deal especially considering the weight. Aftermarket exhaust, tail tidy, bar end mirrors should all cut the weight down too to sub-400lbs which is really impressive. Good job Yamaha!

curious what the acoustics will do that feed engine noise to the top of the tank, think it'll be more of a gimmick but who knows?
gonna have to do a test ride to figure if I want the Y-AMT transmission or the manual with quick shifter.
Cruise control sure is handy for the 'longer hauls' so that benefit goes to the Y-AMT.

They also did a lot of things that I wanted Honda to do with the CB650R. I still prefer the CB650R at its core but man, I wish Honda gave us a RBW throttle with up/down QS and cruise controls instead of that e-clutch. I know a lot of people love the e-clutch but I’m old school. I want to ride a manual motorcycle not an automatic. I hope Honda wakes up and gives us a better upgrade to the CB650R in a year or two. Gotta wonder what the managers at Honda are thinking. They missed the mark so badly.

Hope they got the ride by wire throttle right.
I dont care for ride modes, TC is a nice safety bonus for crossing train tracks in the wet but otherwise meh at this power, but i was really looking forward to an MT07 with autoblipper!
Now all that's missing is cruise control on the non-amt :D

I think the suspension upgrade is good, design is better, but I think simple bike is better. Cable trotle, cable clutch... 700ccm bike don't need lots of electronic things. I'm not a fan of the automatic bikes. I never owned a scooter, just manual moto bike. This is my personal opinion

the tuono 660 is the reason yamaha upped their mt07. same reason they made the r7 after the rs660.
also seems like u really love the trident. but most of us know that the 660 aprilia lineup has better handling

This year's upgrades are really great. The riding experience is absolutely phenomenal compared to last year's model. However, there's one big exception.
The factory ride by wire throttle mapping is horrible, like most other Yamaha bikes with ride by wire. The first issue is about the throttle twitchiness/linearity, the second is about the throttle not opening up as it should.
The twitchiness is actually dangerous. It's giving an abrupt on/off feeling. Just imagine yourself already deep in a turn with your knee almost scraping the road. That twitchiness is enough to throw off your balance and may ultimately lead to a crash.
I can see why people are ranting about the change.
Another downside is that the throttle plates almost never fully open up, which is ridiculous to say the least. You're getting 100% throttle only for 250 RPM on the entire rev range!
The 2 Wheel Dyno Works ECU flash is certainly the way to go here.
Unless you're stuck with an A2 license that is, then there's no way you're fixing these issues legally.
I'll be stuck with that crappy factory tune and throttle mapping for two entire years before I can legally flash my ECU.
I can tolerate the air/fuel ratio being on the lean side from the factory. It's like that so the bike is Euro 5 regulations compliant.
But there's nothing that's explaining why the throttle is so bad. Come on Yamaha!

It amazing how it still does not have lean sensitive ABS&Traction Control.
Literally had a guy in front of me lay his R7 down bc he was to harsh on throttle at the corner exit.
ESPECIALLY as THE beginner bike, give it all the safety systems WTF???
The Trident will get it, the tuono has it.
It’s such an immense ROI for a new driver not to crash the first time they panic brake into or in a corner or be too quick with their wrist…

@@chrishart8548 The right-side-up forks were structurally fine. What wasn't fine was the too-long spring spacer installed in the fork top, and the general too-low spring rate, and the too-lax compression damping. All of that had good fixes in the aftermarket but it doesn't make the OEM setup that great, or as capable as it could have been with better parts choices. I'm about 190 rider, the suspension wasn't set up for someone of my weight.
I hope the 2025 redo is much more cohesive. For a contrast, Suzuki seems to have a better knack at making basic components work really well as a system.
I can't say for sure as I don't have access to part numbers on the 2025 stuff, but Yamaha might have just used the R7 forks on this update, with spring rates suitable for the MT. We'll have to wait and see.
