Great video and appreciate the new 30min+ completele overview! 2 points to mention from this content : - I think you've missed the new Suzuki DRZ, which is the one I'm most waiting for as a lightweight adventure and offroad bike. - My ideal bike setup, following many tests and having owned various ones from different categories (Ducati Scrambler, Triumph T120, Honda ATAS), I've realised that a sports tourer, like the Yamaha Tracer GT+ that I'm getting, along with a lightweight offroader is perfect. If it's to go for a one-bike garage, I would go for a mid-adv bike like the Toureg 660. All the best!
At least here in the US, dealers have a large inventory of the current 390 Adv in stock. Going to be even harder to move when the new R arrives. Maybe that’s why the X is delayed.

They need to stop making these motorcycles so tall most of the time they're just driven on the street anyway. Honda CRF 300 LS. Perfect bike. Just need more horsepower. It's that simple.
Great round up, thanks. I think the Hunter’s biggest competitor will be the new Honda GB350. About the same price and performance but backed with Hondas reputation.

No worries, the exhaust port is high on the engine so it’s fine. As long as the water level is lower than the exhaust port on the head of the engine, water won’t go in
I'm definitely waiting a year to see these new bikes. I'm really into that KTM 390, the cf moto 450, and I'm really curious what comes of that bmw 450. I'll let everyone else be the test subjects lol
Same, I also take issue with his comment that the engine is basically the same as the NX500. The Ninja400/500 is far more superior than the CBR500r. It’s lighter and more lively.

The S version will have to compete with the Himalayan 450 and it'll come down to price. I am sort of torn between them. I am thinking of getting the Him 450 for my touring and get an Enduro R for my weekend offroad trail needs.
Cost and comfort. The 690 is a more brutal bike without cornering abs and cruise control, no wind protection etc. more expensive, more power that not everyone needs. Just a different bike for a different type of rider
@@slakk5093 there is no more wind protection on the 390 enduro. I dont think an enduro need cornering abs or cruise control either. I am getting fed up with tech on my NC750X DCT. I've not hitch hiked this much in years. Ok, I'm probably unlucky. It's going back to the finance company in a few weeks and I'm going back to a Yamaha XT600E. I had one in the mid 1990s, took it through Africa. Simple to work on and no finance needed. It'll do road and dirt ok too.
I love all the competition in the 450 class. Light is right, the best mid-light weight ADV bike up until no was the Suzuki DR650 for value. The Dakar has a limit of 450 cc and I think includes twins, wouldn't it be great to have a 450 Superstock style class for these ADV bikes.
Dakar rules are 450cc singles, but it would be awesome if there was a new class for road derived 450cc twins (just as cars have T1 prototype and T2 modified road, SxS have prototype T3 and showroom SxS T4). Aprillia could basically enter that 457, CF Moto could come as bikes and SxS, and BMW/Yamaha could be enticed to return (Yamaha also has their SxS).
I'd love to see Kawasaki and Honda bore out the KLX/CRF 300s, and a new WR would be awesome too. Damn the A2 license, give us a 350-400cc, 310lb/140kg kerb weight dual sport.
KLX/CRF/WR 400's would be perfect dual sports imo. 390 Enduro R has the ingredients, but it looks like it's going to be too heavy for a DS. DRZ4S has got porky too.
A return to simplicity is what I'm hoping for. All the advanced ride control features are under utilized or unnecessary IMO. I just don't see the cost benefit. The 390 Enduro? Just get the 500EXCF/FE501. They're like 100 lbs lighter. (but twice the price, I know)
If we could possible install panniers and some tank bang in the new 390 adv it would give a tough competition to the himalayan in india.. cuz indians like touring a lot and ktm would be preferred over RE at least by the younger gen folks..
From a 90hp one I will trade one horse power for every kilogram of weight savings all the way down to 40-45hp. We do not need more for 90% of the stuff we most do, given we want to venture off road. Slow becomes fast and less is more in the end.
Does anyone other than me look at the CF Moto 450 MT engine and see the KTM abandoned 490 project from a few years back, you know, the one that was going to be built in China🤔?!
One of the things that KTM needs to do is to stop being obsessed with the colour orange! if they offered other colours I'm sure they would get more customers, i personally like their bikes BUT the orange is 🤮 to me
All Japanese manufacturers should take not as well. Honda will offer Europe 4 colors and USA Red only. Focus groups must have confirmed that Americans don’t like choices and Europeans do.
I think that applies to all brands who are religious with their brand color. I bought a Kawai-and not a green one. I’d never buy a green motorcycle. Or pretty much anything green.
6:20 Are you kidding? Yes we need the pure enduro version. It's cheaper and better. It should be NO NEWS to you big expensive bikes are the enemy of all riders. What team are you on? :)
If taken to serious off-road terrian, the biggest disadvantage of KTM390 definetly would be its torque. You have to twist thottle at skyrocket 7700RPM reaches max torque of 40NM, which is easily achieved at mere 2500RPM by KLR650 and other 650 thumpers.
Whoever thought a huge ADV was the way to go for off-road riding must’ve never ridden anything off-road, including a mountain bike. And if you’re not riding your adv off-road you’re a poser. Get a tourer.
I don't want multiple bikes. 80-90% of my riding is asphalt. But I need and really enjoy that last 10-20% of gravel and off-road riding. If I had the time or money for multiple bikes, sure. But I really appreciate the comfort and on-road performance of my 1200 GS. I even sold my car.
@@uku5840 Understandble, and to be fair, to each their own. The "trail" category has become the goat tourer on paved roads for common folks, and that's great. More people on bikes 🙂
I think it makes a lot of sense to identify where these bike segments excel, and target that. ADVs will never be as good or as easy to manage off-road as a dual-sport or dedicated dirt bike. No matter how small or light they get. So while the lightweight ADVs are great, they'll never compete off-road with a dual-sport. Their best bet is to become as light as possible, while still providing enough protection, power, and luggage support for touring as they can. While also being significantly cheaper than middleweights. Their audience will ultimately be commuters, adventure cosplayers, and aspiring off-roaders that aren't committed enough to just get a dual-sport yet. Or live far from trails and need something they can take on the highway. Middleweight ADVs are the natural endgame for legitimate explorers that want a bike they can travel the world with, but still have enough off-road capability to leave the road. Large ADVs have become the overgrown SUVs of the motorcycle world, while pretending to be the Jeeps. They have literally outgrown their primary purpose. If what you want is every creature comfort, while cruising along at a decent pace, enjoying the high, upright seating position of an ADV, congratulations. You're the soccer mom that traded the station wagon for the Suburban. Ultimately, no one wants the MOST anything. They want a personalized mix of many things like off-road capability, on-road civility, some tech and creature comforts, some basic luggage capacity, some performance, all in an affordable package. For most, that will be a lightweight or middleweight ADV, depending on their wallet and bias between off-road and on-road.
I love the look of the Adventure R, it might be a bit too heavy for me to learn off road riding though. They’re going to sell a ton of them definitely.
why every single review of the 450GS fails to point out the wheel size?.... even here at the start of the video you mention that the KTM 390X will be the more road focus becaue the wheel size compared to the R model, (same when mentioning the Honda).. yet when talking about hte BMW its all about how off-road weapon will be (same with every other youtuber), yet that bike has 19/17 wheels.... like why no-one ever mentions that BMW kinda fail to put a 21/18 wheel combo in order to make it more offroad bias as msot people want it to be (and BMW market it as)
Why build a 390 adventure before a 690 adventure 🤔 that sounds like something Japan would do. Suzuki DRZ 400 adventure, of course not, we leave that to the aftermarket😊
Who would buy a KTM now? They have 260,000 unsold bikes already, which presumably will be given away as they, and their dealers become more desperate for cash flow. Plenty of credible alternatives, from companies that might still be in business for the warranty period!
175kg wet is still too heavy for serious off road use for solo riders . CRF300 Rally is still the king for those who do more off road , and are willing to cruise at legal speeds.
If this R model was available a year or two ago, if KTM had less mechanical issues........maybe yes. I got the 450mt, 380 usd titanium exhaust (very nice quality) shipped with tuned ecu, woke up the bike and got rid of the on/off idle fueling. Some protection and racks (from Uncle Wangs as the exhaust) for very reasonable prices, how can one go wrong?
Advertizng going freely through nature with all your noise and destruction of the soil? Ktm have you lost it? Do you want motorcycling prohbited for good?
It should have been the KTM 690 Adventure R. The 390 Adventure R is way too heavy 385lbs!! Wet! It might do well in the European market with the licensing requirements. But it will not sell in the USA because it's overpriced overweight and underpowered.
cold hard fact: if you think any of the current 450 bikes can compete with the new ktm you are deluded, none of them will stand a chance if you have any serious interest in off road riding. Weight, pedigree, knowledge, style, spec and i bet performance will ALL GO TO THE ORANGE BIKE, the ktm are even competitive on cost - win win.
Just for the record, those custom Indians were horrible 🤮 vanity projects. If Donald trump rode a bike ?. As for the others I'm personally waiting for the BMW F450 GS. I expect it to be the most expensive in class, but still a bargain compared to anything larger.
Honda Cub and any of the 350cc Royal Enfields are the nicest bikes here. Some are the others are ok too but the KTMs and Indians are just hideous. I mean WTF? Why don't they hire talented designers with better taste?

It feels like Motobob’s voice is a bit more toned down in this video-he doesn’t sound as enthusiastic as usual. Or is it just me? 😬
Can you guess which KLE I have?
I love the look of the Adventure R, it might be a bit too heavy for me to learn off road riding though.
They’re going to sell a ton of them definitely.
Heh! @22:00 a motorcycle painted to appeal to toddlers.
I love the 390 platform but I bet you won’t see any of this until late 2025 or into 2026.
why every single review of the 450GS fails to point out the wheel size?.... even here at the start of the video you mention that the KTM 390X will be the more road focus becaue the wheel size compared to the R model, (same when mentioning the Honda).. yet when talking about hte BMW its all about how off-road weapon will be (same with every other youtuber), yet that bike has 19/17 wheels.... like why no-one ever mentions that BMW kinda fail to put a 21/18 wheel combo in order to make it more offroad bias as msot people want it to be (and BMW market it as)
Yeah, that should be like the first thing to point out.
X > R
Why build a 390 adventure before a 690 adventure 🤔 that sounds like something Japan would do. Suzuki DRZ 400 adventure, of course not, we leave that to the aftermarket😊
It’s a bit of a gamble with any KTM, would not have one.
Looks like he is wearing a turbin!
Tvs is also making an adventure bike of 300cc
Is KTM a busted flush now.
Somewhat disappointing that Yamaha is completely absent from this sector. Also Triumph, where's your 400XE or Tiger 400?
It’s pretty heavy for a single
Camshaft on new KTM... Will it die?
Boy with hat collates specs....such talent. Always reminds me of clichéd estate agents. 'PropertyBob', watch this space.
Ktm looks good, just avoid river crossings.....Why on earth have KTM chosen this style of exhaust on this style of bike?
Who would buy a KTM now? They have 260,000 unsold bikes already, which presumably will be given away as they, and their dealers become more desperate for cash flow. Plenty of credible alternatives, from companies that might still be in business for the warranty period!
175kg wet is still too heavy for serious off road use for solo riders .
CRF300 Rally is still the king for those who do more off road , and are willing to cruise at legal speeds.
Too heavy. All they needed to do was put an engine with bigger service schedule into a current model
cf moto 450 mt. specifically because I can only have one motorcycle, so 95% of the time will be city riding... and big bikes in the city... suckx
If this R model was available a year or two ago, if KTM had less mechanical issues........maybe yes. I got the 450mt, 380 usd titanium exhaust (very nice quality) shipped with tuned ecu, woke up the bike and got rid of the on/off idle fueling. Some protection and racks (from Uncle Wangs as the exhaust) for very reasonable prices, how can one go wrong?
only the bigger ones have mechanical issues the 390s are still good
Advertizng going freely through nature with all your noise and destruction of the soil? Ktm have you lost it? Do you want motorcycling prohbited for good?
Must be a landowner or a friend with one. In my country at least, where all offroad is unfortunately illegal.
Cheese, anyone
Shame KTM doesn’t spend money building there bikes properly instead of paying people to ride like idiots on them👍
Just for the record, those custom Indians were horrible 🤮 vanity projects.
