- Quest Diagnostics says a record number U.S. workers are cheating employer drug tests with urine samples and other tests showing signs of tampering, six times more often in 2023 than the year before. CBS News MoneyWatch reporter Megan Cerullo discusses.

@rc-st9pg What does that have to do with anything? It can be legal, but if you fail a drug test. You still get fired. Start drug testing congress. So they will be forced to modernize the laws.

Testing isn't meant for workplace safety. It's for insurance purposes. At least be honest.

The US Navy implemented drug testing and aviation mishaps went way down. So there is something to it. Pilots are expensive to train and when one gets hurt or dies it affects military readiness.
What people do when they aren't working isn't the employers business.

It’s about testing. There needs to be a new test that shows if you’re currently impaired, not if you smoked weed two weeks ago.

@@slowbro1337 THC binds to fat cells, so for a healthy low fat individual, it can take 40 to 60 days to leave your system as every time you burn a little fat, THC is released into your urine. Unhealthy people, it can take longer. The issue is these tests should be about are you coming to work high, not do use use weed outside of work.

nowadays honestly who isnt cheating on their drug tests to smoke that bud. Seriously.
I still can't believe that corporations are alliowed to do these tests. To me this is just infringing on privacy rights. Funny how that came to be in the land of *free* home of the *brave* ^^.
As a teenager, I was required to pass a drug test for employment at a car sales lot. A month into the job, while cleaning one of the cars, I stumbled upon a rolled-up hundred-dollar bill, a small mirror, a razor blade, and a bag of white powder. That afternoon, the boss inquired if I had discovered anything odd in his car. To clarify, the car was company property. It struck me as ironic that the minimum wage employee had to undergo drug testing, while the boss seemingly indulged in narcotics while using company resources.

Most people, including business owners, are not these "smart" people. It's a screening method to weed people out, but someone who smokes weed isn't implicitly a bad employee, and vice versa. There's a big law gap, but thank our education system for that.

Working with people who smoke MJ is a drag. The brain is affected and impaired for up to a week. People acting odd because MJ has impaired their ability to handle stress.

In the state of California it is now illegal for a prospective employer to ask a potential employee about Marijuana use. It is also illegal for them to require a Drug Metabolite Test for employment save for a few exceptions (Doctors, Heavy Machinery Operators, Etc.). Hopefully this becomes the norm in all Legal states.

As of January 1, 2024, CA A.B. 2188 eliminates urine and hair testing as options for most employers since they detect “non-psychoactive THC metabolites” that indicate past use.
Unless you're applying for a job as a Federal Employee, a surgeon, a construction worker, or to be in law enforcement, an employer cannot use a drug test to discriminate against you for employment in Ca.

Yes! Urine-Luck kept me employed for many years. It’s a shame I even had to do it though- it was just marijuana and now it’s legal where I live and my employer doesn’t even test for it now.

The problem is marijuana stays in your system for 30 days or more you could do it on vacation and take a test 3 weeks later and it'll be positive and that shouldn't affect your job I could see if you were high on the job but they don't have a test for that yet just like alcohol you're allowed to drink but you're not allowed to drink while you're working
Believe me, dope smokers suck under pressure or any kind of stress. It seems to last over a week after use. You smoke dope stay away from me, I don't want to babysit you.

What has always bugged me about these tests is you could smoke weed 2 weeks ago and still fail while someone can do some coke the same week as the test and still pass it.
It should be illegal to drug test workers. Unless it’s that much of a safety sensitive job.

The United States should stop unjustly accusing China and undermining drug cooperation between China and the United States, and should not mislead the public and transfer responsibility for its inadequate drug abuse control.

I was asked to take a random drug test at my job, and I know it wasn't justified.
It was because of my hair and skin color.
So i pooped 💩 in the container.
The lady freaked out when I turned it in and yelled, "we wanted a urine sample."
I replied with, "You can deal with what i gave you."
They need that escape now, but they don't want people to know that it's something they do, they're trying to say that is becoming more acceptable now but then why would they be cheating on the test?
Here’s a strange idea, come up with a test to determine if someone is actually under the influence of THC at the time of the test 🤷🏽♂️. People have been losing their jobs for years over using cannabis while on vacation or on their own time, days or weeks before a drug test.
They need to test for alcohol and stop lying about how it takes too long or is too expensive.
How drug testing NOT a violation of one’s Civil Rights? Excepting pilots, bus drivers, train engineers, cops (who needs a drugged up cop w/a gun,they’re bad enough when sober) and jobs where you hold people’s lives in your hands, no one should be forced into drug testing for a job unless there’s reason (like smelling to high heaven of alcohol, for example.) What or what isn’t in my, or anyone else’s system is absolutely none of the employers business. My psych meds would flag me and then they’d need a note from my psychiatrist. This was for a minimum wage job at Home Depot about 10 years ago. Told them that was absolutely none of their business and invasive.

Rather than spending more money on more modernized testing, which ultimately reduces workers' wages, why don't companies and their insurers relax these company-wide blanket policies, and save the test requirements for critical applications? For example, people whose decisions affect the lives of millions of others every day, like members of congress, or supreme court justices, presidents, etc.? Remember, "The State" is also a corporation. Food for thought.

Can’t help view this with skepticism. Maybe I should check Quest’s stock prices. Recently, several of my friends have applied for jobs expecting to be tested. They weren’t. Also, I’m in a recreational state. Cannabis won’t keep you from a boring, mundane and meaningless job.

These women saying not operating heavy machinery. When your done your job of operating heavy machinery, you can smoke as much as you want. Then go back to work the next day. So, you need to do you jobs correctly and say things correctly as news broadcasters and pay attention to detail. When you're saying that, you're implying someone is smoking and then going and operating heavy machinery. Most people if they do smoke, smoke when they go home after work at some point.
