I used to work for FedEx, and we had a driver whose eyes were naturally squinted. So it always looked like he was stoned. They drug tested him 3 times in one year, and wanted a fourth. He told them he would agree to the fourth test, but after that he would get them for harassment. They never gave him that 4th drug test, nor drug tested him ever again.

I lost my government job in college because of invasive Reagan-era drug testing procedures. I was clean for 27 days prior to the test and still tested positive for THC. I guess smoking weed in a legal state to help me sleep almost a month before I start working means I don’t deserve to afford rent!

The upper management at the Kroger I work at accused the night crew of smoking on break in the parking lot. Granted, we do this. So long story short, no snitches, test all 28 night crew employees. 26 tested positive for thc, including the shift managers/department head. Turns out you can’t fire the entire night crew at once. Now they don’t even test on hire.

My friend recently got accepted for a job in Massachusetts, where marijuana is now allowed. The company was Red Cross. Her job was to answer phones and give out information. After she got the job they told her to get a urine test. She told them she does use marijuana. They then told her she no longer could have the job. Her reaction was that the company needed to catch up to laws of their state and they were missing out on a good worker. I think it is great that she was honest with them. She could have told them she would be available in a month from now but she strongly felt that there is nothing wrong with having used marijuana and she plans to continue. My friend does not drink alcohol because she does not like it. She smokes marijuana when she is relaxing. She was not stoned during the interview and does not smoke pot before or during work. In a state where pot is legal why are businesses still testing for it. Marijuana metabolites stay in your system for a month but your high last for maybe an hour. The world just makes no sense.

I worked construction on a crew of 8 or 10 people when I was younger around 16-17. They could frame a house in just about a month and a half.... The owner randomly brings up, hey where gonna start drug testing. Everyone on the crew looked at him and started laughing. He said what... The foreman looked at him and said unless you wanna fire the whole crew and start over, I suggest you keep that idea an idea and let us get back to work. He never drug tested anyone lol
It's becoming more common to even have nicotine tests. I work in healthcare and zero tolerance policies have been cropping up for years. I understand a no smoking on campus policy. But these assholes are forcing people to be voluntarily nicotine tested and risk losing their jobs if they smoked a cigar on poker night. They don't even allow the use of smoking cessation drugs like wellbutrin or the like.

I face this issue, I have a Bachelors degree in Engineering but I am a big pot head as well. It has held me back and many jobs that I have wanted have all wanted hair follicles/piss test which I wont accept. Its actually pretty sad that someone with a good GPA and studied one of the toughest fields that has over a 50% drop out rate gets labeled as a low life just because I enjoy a plant that grows out the ground.
If you cant come up with the metal strength to not smoke weed for a while just to get a job that will get you a career and put a roof on your head then maybe you dont deserve that job. Ive been smoking for 3 years straight and stopped for a month for a job. Did it suck? Absolutely! But once I passed the drug test, I made sure that I did, it was that time again. How I did it was a matter of comparing which is more important for me.

I smoke marijuana daily. I also work 7-5 Mon-Fri. Have a spare job on weekends in construction. Have night School on Tue-Thur 6:20-9:30. I have a wife and son as well. I’m also training to run my first marathon. I’ve got my first 1/2 marathon in a month super excited about that. Weed doesn’t make ppl lazy or unproductive members or society. It’s a stimulant that if used right can improve all aspects of life.
Their argument is for people like you. The ones who can do it effectively. The companies argument is for the people who do that and aren't paying attention and drop a 2x4 off a building and knock someone out. It's about the person who can't deal with or take the drug and it messes up normal function, not the person whos fine.
I recently failed a job interview because I tested positive for THC. Mind you I live in Washington state where marijuana is legal but also I haven't smoked marijuana in 4 MONTHS. I was taking CBD full spectrum (impossible to get high from it) because it lowers my anxiety better than anything else and it ultimately makes me a better worker. I told them about the CBD in a voice message and told them I can show them the bottle. They never bothered calling back. I never show up to work high ever but know plenty of people who pass their drug tests but show up to work drunk.
I work for a fortune 500.. And I can clearly say that it is very personal. We hair follicle and get random hair follicle. Also we have to sign waivers if we use nicotine, either do a cessation program or pay a 500$ fine just for using nicotine.. I personally think that it's completely determing what an person can do on there free time. These jobs need us as much as we need them it's crazy how much our employers think they can own us and control our decisions.
It is definitely personal and highly invasive. It also is a challenge to my responsibility. All of it based on misinformation and refusal to investigate. The reason they keep doing it is because we keep agreeing to it. Enough people have to refuse the tests.

To be fair it is the insurance companies that need to stop having a say in what we do outside of work. The ones who insure our employers. I've worked for some large businesses that didn't drug test and it was only because their insurance policy didn't require it so they wanted to save the money it costs them to send us to testing programs. In order to comply with the insurance these companies only had to test after an "incident" or "accident". But most companies I've worked for, their insurance requires pre employment screenings. I know this from being in management/upper management positions. I feel that 8 out of 10 companies wouldn't test if they weren't forced to by insurance.

I live in the UK and I work for a large US company and they drug test *all* employees before hiring them. I'm not just talking machine operators, but IT staff (like me), sales people, maintenance personnel, HR, graphics designers etc. Nobody can avoid it. I love smoking weed. Fortunately, I was given a heads up prior to my pre-employment 'health checkup' so I was able to acquire fake piss. Despite never operating heavy machinery, I am subject to a random on-spot drug test. It fucking sucks. I still smoke, but very infrequently. I realise this could jeopardise my job, but why the fuck should I give up my right to chill the fuck out? I'm not hurting anyone and I would never get stoned on the job. I dislike alcohol, tobacco and other hard drugs. I now have to carry synthetic urine in my bag in case I ever get called to piss into a cup. JUST LET ME SMOKE WEED IN MY HOME, IN PEACE!!
In New Zealand they started drug testing houses looking for methamphetimine residue, on the basis that manufacturing meth can leave enough contamination to present a real health risk. This is true. However the tests were so sensitive, and the threshold so low, that even the most casual smoking would lead to homeowners having to totally decontaminate and refit houses before they could be rented or sold, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in some cases. Moral panics have cost society more than drugs ever will.

That being said.. certain drugs should be legalized everywhere, such as marijuana.. you just shouldn't be able to do certain things while under the influence like with alcohol.. but sadly it's always the ass hole who think "I'm good" that ruin it for everyone else..
I think it's okay to celebrate someone's sobriety when they had a drug problem but drug tests are completely wrong and I'm happy that the last two employers I've worked for they don't do drug tests because they believe that is it gross invasion of privacy. The only time they drug test is if you do some stupid shit and get hurt but even then there's the risk of getting fired because if they find any sort of drug in your system they by law have to get rid of you.
What I find amazing, is that if you are depressed, anxious, or anything out of the realm of what a doctor considers normal. They assume your brain chemistry is off without knowing what your personal natural brain chemistry is, and without even testing it at all. And prescribe people overpriced drugs they say will fix them. In fact I had a doctor before tell me to my face, I had to believe the medicine would work, for it to work.

I remember back in highschool i was in the bathroom with a few kids who were smoking, at the time i wasn’t smoking , i think it had been 6 months since i smoked at that point and a teacher walked in the bathroom caught them and sent us to the office. I had to talk to to principal mind you i did not smoke at all, i was around people doing it, so then the principle said i looked high because my eyes are naturally squinted, (im a quarter philippino and all i got was the eyes) I told him this and he said you are not philippino, then he calls the campus officer or whatever he was in and instead of testing my pee or anything like that, he does a sobriety test on me to which apparently my eyes were shaking which meant i was high, they wrote i tested positive and tried making me go to a drug program, my mom came since at the time i had bad anger and started cussing out the principle and the officer, they told my mom i tested positive so she was mad and said they told her i got tested, then i told her no they tested me with there fucking finger, this pissed her off and she drug tested me when i got home and ofc i was negative, never went back to that school again, it completely violated my privacy and as a kid, you get mad when you know you are telling the truth but you just are not believed by people who are “higher up then you”. My mom felt so bad for me and had a big issue with that school
Back on the previous job I had to do a drug test, pee in one of them little pots. It really made me feel angry and disgusted by their behavior towards the potential new staff members. It was like we are some prisoners, waiting for a cell in a high-security prison. There were people that failed. People that woke up at 7, waited like 4 hours just to get tested and get sent home because they did some weed 2 weeks ago. Disgusting.

Just lost a job before I started after stopping weed for two weeks I came up with a faint reading and I didn’t get the job, after being told I got the job and was over qualified and the best candidate. I’m heart broken to be honest. Now I have to explain to friends and family why I did not get the job. This truely sucks.
It really does stink; but at the same time, I'm realizing I don't want to work for a company that thinks this way. I was recently offered a position, on contingency of drug testing. And I am going to politely refuse their offer, unless they want to rescind their request to invade my privacy and question my sense of responsibility.
Had a huge opportunity to work somewhere new.. finally a new chance to provide for my daughter. It meant a lot to me. Boom... required drug test in 48 hours.. I have only ever smoked weed, legally. I tried everything, in terms of detox, I could within the time frame to pass but, I’m a big and tall guy so it’d take more to flush the toxins. 5 failed at home tests later and I was absolutely heartbroken. I couldn’t hold back the tears when I looked at my little one because I felt like I failed her.

Here's a story. THC and Weed is legal in Washington state. I went to get a job and was denied for the job. I was explained by the HR management that even though I passed the interview with flying colors and was perfectly functional. We need to start boycotting businesses that test people for doing something legal like weed in places where it's legal.If you're gonna test for a legalized substance then you should also test for alcohol and tobacco.
Im in the aerospace industry and we rarely get tested. We are allowed to live our lives as long as whatever you are doing doesnt negatively impact your performance even though management will never admit it. Thats the way it should be.

Meth made me dysfunctional, and I wasn't even a hardcore user at all. It made me focus on self indulgent things primarily. Video games, internet activities, etc. At that time I used to work in physical labor jobs. For me, it was completely counter-productive for that type of work...it almost made me feel sick to do physical labor on it. Not a physical type of energy at all. Jobs with more mental types of activities it probably would be better suited for. One time I stayed up from evening until daylight the next morning just trying to illustrate my point as clearly as possible in a youtube comment. I couldn't believe myself when I realized how long I had spent trying to perfect that comment. The term "tweaking" really made sense then. Not too long after that I had a really bad reaction to it after staying up a few nights. Thought I was gonna die of a stroke/heart attack and my brain felt messed up afterward for about 1.5 years. Screw that demon drug. Overall I thought it was highly overrated and I was searching for something I couldn't get from it. (like an idiot) Weed gives me far more euphoria than meth did. Never touched it again since early 2014.

I had co workers who have never ever done any sort of drugs, that they had a huge misconception of smoking Marijuana does to a person. A woman thought Marijuana makes men violent and rapey, and a guy thought you could probably kill someone while under the influence. I told them no that's alcohol LOL.
Used to work in the oil fields with a bunch of meth heads. We were working 115 hours a week. I would dose off on the job after about 2.5 weeks of working these kinds of hours. Meanwhile the meth heads were throwing me under the bus. For sleeping on the job. When I was confronted by my boss about it. I was like I guess I can start doing meth like the rest of your star employees.
This. We lost a bunch of good drillers and helpers at the mine a few weeks back because they failed the drug test for weed. The meth heads tend to run in packs and if you're not one of them they don't trust you. They are paranoid as fuck they look at you like a potential rat. Meth for the blue collar man is like steroids or Performance enhancement Drugs for Athletes... think Lance Armstrong. These guys are Superstars especially the young meth heads but eventually they all burn out. The process of them burning out takes many many years. It's not a fast burnout like people think. I new one guy that didn't burn out till he was in his 50's. Granted I don't know how old he was when he started using meth but he had been on it for years when I met him. One day he started spraying break cleaner all over his arms and legs. We always wore FR coveralls in the oil field, so nobody new how bad he had been picking at his skin. He totally lost it told us he had bugs laying eggs in his skin. It was sad I don't know what ever happened to the guy. I liked him he was a good dude he was one of the few meth heads I actually got along with.

I went through a crazy SIX interview process to become a manager at RED LOBSTER who is based out of florida which then was a ZERO TOLERANCE STATE. INTERVIEWED w everyone from regional manager to hr and a polygraph. Received an offer letter of $45k to start as an am to train in florida but needed one more step... A PISS TEST! I FAILED. Got a call from darden restaurants and was told i had thc present and asked if i could explain. Told him i hadnt smoked. Had been to a concert where everyone was smoking in the last week. Within HOURS i got a fed ex letter on red robin letterhead saying "unfortunately, we have to recind the offer due to the presence of thc"! I STILL have the letter and refuse to piss test EVER AGAIN! Its inaccurate and an invasion of my humanity! FK THAT!
It's all to do with insurance. Insurance give cheaper rates for companies that test. It's not a conspiracy; unfortunately the truth is that people who (mis)use drugs in an irresponsible way cause accidents. That costs the insurer. That said, it's a shame that companies choose to use the cheapest tests possible in many cases, and as discussed don't ever deduce your state of consciousness, are not reliable and in any case cannot tell you if the substance in question was in any way responsible.
I had a random drug test for my job. Anyway...I was picked because the bosses knew everyone else smokes pot on there lunch break. And I passed it, I haven't smoked pot in 5 years! Joe Rogan needs to smoke with me,next time hopefully I'll have a medical marijuana card. I'm in Ohio and medical marijuana is coming in December! Yay! Getting trashed and working on serious stuff like elevators, military stuff, and flying planes are kinda my no go category. I knew a stoner that worked at a ice cream shop, best possible guy to have working there. Knew all the best combos and had a great attitude.
It's for insurance purposes. Some employees may care, but most of the time, it's because they get a reduction in insurance rates. You can argue the morality of it, but considering that the first-line objective of a company is to make money, it's very difficult to persuade businesses to ignore this money-saving opportunity.

God thank God someone said it. I got sober from heroin in 2014 when my daughter was born. I agree completely, sobriety isn't a damn virtue. I got sober because it's not a good look to be a Dad and a heroin addict. At least in our current society. Sobriety is boring, let's face it. People get high because it is fun, it feels good. You only live once. But when it's time to grow up and be a Father, and you are a junkie, it's time to make some changes. At least for me. Don't get me wrong, I am proud of my ability to beat addiction. But I don't act like I am better than a methhead or heroin addict for my decision. I NEVER preach to people to get clean. It's none of my business.

In large part this is because many drugs decrease the brain's production of dopamine and serotonin: the drugs in your brain that are responsible for feelings of motivation and happiness.
Not the lack of production, but changes in receptor density. Dopamine receptor downregulation is a huge factor in losing motivation, which happens to all addicts at some point.

As a nurse, my facility has many patients on THC, CBD, Hybrids. I can't use it, even if it is legal recreationally and helps me deal with my sleep apnea and insomnia. I don't even like pot. I use it as medicine so I can sleep.
Come to my shop drunk, or high your fired or sent home. The blue collared work place is no place for intoxication. But if your high at home, and come to work clear with ko side affects, then ok. But if you get hurt at work and your drug test proves positive then liability is on you. This is why we drug test, employers can't be held liable.

I used to work for FedEx, and we had a driver whose eyes were naturally squinted. So it always looked like he was stoned. They drug tested him 3 times in one year, and wanted a fourth. He told them he would agree to the fourth test, but after that he would get them for harassment. They never gave him that 4th drug test, nor drug tested him ever again.

The upper management at the Kroger I work at accused the night crew of smoking on break in the parking lot. Granted, we do this.
So long story short, no snitches, test all 28 night crew employees. 26 tested positive for thc, including the shift managers/department head. Turns out you can’t fire the entire night crew at once. Now they don’t even test on hire.
Idea bring weed brownies to work with a very low THC content just enough to get them all blood tested positive then they can't fire you.

My friend recently got accepted for a job in Massachusetts, where marijuana is now allowed. The company was Red Cross. Her job was to answer phones and give out information. After she got the job they told her to get a urine test. She told them she does use marijuana. They then told her she no longer could have the job. Her reaction was that the company needed to catch up to laws of their state and they were missing out on a good worker. I think it is great that she was honest with them. She could have told them she would be available in a month from now but she strongly felt that there is nothing wrong with having used marijuana and she plans to continue. My friend does not drink alcohol because she does not like it. She smokes marijuana when she is relaxing. She was not stoned during the interview and does not smoke pot before or during work. In a state where pot is legal why are businesses still testing for it. Marijuana metabolites stay in your system for a month but your high last for maybe an hour. The world just makes no sense.

I worked construction on a crew of 8 or 10 people when I was younger around 16-17. They could frame a house in just about a month and a half.... The owner randomly brings up, hey where gonna start drug testing. Everyone on the crew looked at him and started laughing. He said what... The foreman looked at him and said unless you wanna fire the whole crew and start over, I suggest you keep that idea an idea and let us get back to work. He never drug tested anyone lol

It's becoming more common to even have nicotine tests. I work in healthcare and zero tolerance policies have been cropping up for years. I understand a no smoking on campus policy. But these assholes are forcing people to be voluntarily nicotine tested and risk losing their jobs if they smoked a cigar on poker night. I face this issue, I have a Bachelors degree in Engineering but I am a big pot head as well. It has held me back and many jobs that I have wanted have all wanted hair follicles/piss test which I wont accept. Its actually pretty sad that someone with a good GPA and studied one of the toughest fields that has over a 50% drop out rate gets labeled as a low life just because I enjoy a plant that grows out the ground.
If you cant come up with the metal strength to not smoke weed for a while just to get a job that will get you a career and put a roof on your head then maybe you dont deserve that job. Ive been smoking for 3 years straight and stopped for a month for a job. Did it suck? Absolutely! But once I passed the drug test, I made sure that I did, it was that time again. How I did it was a matter of comparing which is more important for me.

I smoke marijuana daily. I also work 7-5 Mon-Fri. Have a spare job on weekends in construction. Have night School on Tue-Thur 6:20-9:30. I have a wife and son as well. I’m also training to run my first marathon. I’ve got my first 1/2 marathon in a month super excited about that. Weed doesn’t make ppl lazy or unproductive members or society. It’s a stimulant that if used right can improve all aspects of life.

I recently failed a job interview because I tested positive for THC. Mind you I live in Washington state where marijuana is legal but also I haven't smoked marijuana in 4 MONTHS. I was taking CBD full spectrum (impossible to get high from it) because it lowers my anxiety better than anything else and it ultimately makes me a better worker. I told them about the CBD in a voice message and told them I can show them the bottle. They never bothered calling back. I never show up to work high ever but know plenty of people who pass their drug tests but show up to work drunk.
For all of those reasons and more, anyone asked to drug test should refuse. If we do it in numbers, it will make an impact.
I work for a fortune 500.. And I can clearly say that it is very personal. We hair follicle and get random hair follicle. Also we have to sign waivers if we use nicotine, either do a cessation program or pay a 500$ fine just for using nicotine.. I personally think that it's completely determing what an person can do on there free time. These jobs need us as much as we need them it's crazy how much our employers think they can own us and control our decisions.

To be fair it is the insurance companies that need to stop having a say in what we do outside of work. The ones who insure our employers. I've worked for some large businesses that didn't drug test and it was only because their insurance policy didn't require it so they wanted to save the money it costs them to send us to testing programs. In order to comply with the insurance these companies only had to test after an "incident" or "accident". But most companies I've worked for, their insurance requires pre employment screenings. I know this from being in management/upper management positions. I feel that 8 out of 10 companies wouldn't test if they weren't forced to by insurance.

I'm not just talking machine operators, but IT staff (like me), sales people, maintenance personnel, HR, graphics designers etc. Nobody can avoid it. I love smoking weed. Fortunately, I was given a heads up prior to my pre-employment 'health checkup' so I was able to acquire fake piss. Despite never operating heavy machinery, I am subject to a random on-spot drug test. It fucking sucks. I still smoke, but very infrequently. I realise this could jeopardise my job, but why the fuck should I give up my right to chill the fuck out? I'm not hurting anyone and I would never get stoned on the job. I dislike alcohol, tobacco and other hard drugs. I now have to carry synthetic urine in my bag in case I ever get called to piss into a cup. JUST LET ME SMOKE WEED IN MY HOME, IN PEACE!!
In New Zealand they started drug testing houses looking for methamphetimine residue, on the basis that manufacturing meth can leave enough contamination to present a real health risk. This is true. However the tests were so sensitive, and the threshold so low, that even the most casual smoking would lead to homeowners having to totally decontaminate and refit houses before they could be rented or sold, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars in some cases. Moral panics have cost society more than drugs ever will.

I think it's okay to celebrate someone's sobriety when they had a drug problem but drug tests are completely wrong and I'm happy that the last two employers I've worked for they don't do drug tests because they believe that is it gross invasion of privacy. The only time they drug test is if you do some stupid shit and get hurt but even then there's the risk of getting fired because if they find any sort of drug in your system they by law have to get rid of you.

What I find amazing, is that if you are depressed, anxious, or anything out of the realm of what a doctor considers normal. They assume your brain chemistry is off without knowing what your personal natural brain chemistry is, and without even testing it at all. And prescribe people overpriced drugs they say will fix them. In fact I had a doctor before tell me to my face, I had to believe the medicine would work, for it to work.

I remember back in highschool i was in the bathroom with a few kids who were smoking, at the time i wasn’t smoking , i think it had been 6 months since i smoked at that point and a teacher walked in the bathroom caught them and sent us to the office. I had to talk to to principal mind you i did not smoke at all, i was around people doing it, so then the principle said i looked high because my eyes are naturally squinted, (im a quarter philippino and all i got was the eyes) I told him this and he said you are not philippino, then he calls the campus officer or whatever he was in and instead of testing my pee or anything like that, he does a sobriety test on me to which apparently my eyes were shaking which meant i was high, they wrote i tested positive and tried making me go to a drug program, my mom came since at the time i had bad anger and started cussing out the principle and the officer, they told my mom i tested positive so she was mad and said they told her i got tested, then i told her no they tested me with there fucking finger, this pissed her off and she drug tested me when i got home and ofc i was negative, never went back to that school again, it completely violated my privacy and as a kid, you get mad when you know you are telling the truth but you just are not believed by people who are “higher up then you”. My mom felt so bad for me and had a big issue with that school
Back on the previous job I had to do a drug test, pee in one of them little pots. It really made me feel angry and disgusted by their behavior towards the potential new staff members. It was like we are some prisoners, waiting for a cell in a high-security prison. There were people that failed. People that woke up at 7, waited like 4 hours just to get tested and get sent home because they did some weed 2 weeks ago. Disgusting.

Just lost a job before I started after stopping weed for two weeks I came up with a faint reading and I didn’t get the job, after being told I got the job and was over qualified and the best candidate. Had a huge opportunity to work somewhere new.. finally a new chance to provide for my daughter. It meant a lot to me. Boom... required drug test in 48 hours.. I have only ever smoked weed, legally. I tried everything, in terms of detox, I could within the time frame to pass but, I’m a big and tall guy so it’d take more to flush the toxins. 5 failed at home tests later and I was absolutely heartbroken. I couldn’t hold back the tears when I looked at my little one because I felt like I failed her.

I was explained by the HR management that even though I passed the interview with flying colors and was perfectly functional. We need to start boycotting businesses that test people for doing something legal like weed in places where it's legal.If you're gonna test for a legalized substance then you should also test for alcohol and tobacco.

Im in the aerospace industry and we rarely get tested. We are allowed to live our lives as long as whatever you are doing doesnt negatively impact your performance even though management will never admit it. Thats the way it should be.

Meth made me dysfunctional, and I wasn't even a hardcore user at all. It made me focus on self indulgent things primarily. Video games, internet activities, etc. At that time I used to work in physical labor jobs. For me, it was completely counter-productive for that type of work...it almost made me feel sick to do physical labor on it. Not a physical type of energy at all. Jobs with more mental types of activities it probably would be better suited for.
One time I stayed up from evening until daylight the next morning just trying to illustrate my point as clearly as possible in a youtube comment. I couldn't believe myself when I realized how long I had spent trying to perfect that comment. The term "tweaking" really made sense then. Not too long after that I had a really bad reaction to it after staying up a few nights. Thought I was gonna die of a stroke/heart attack and my brain felt messed up afterward for about 1.5 years. Screw that demon drug. Overall I thought it was highly overrated and I was searching for something I couldn't get from it. (like an idiot) Weed gives me far more euphoria than meth did. Never touched it again since early 2014.

I had co workers who have never ever done any sort of drugs, that they had a huge misconception of smoking Marijuana does to a person. A woman thought Marijuana makes men violent and rapey, and a guy thought you could probably kill someone while under the influence. I told them no that's alcohol LOL.
Used to work in the oil fields with a bunch of meth heads. We were working 115 hours a week. I would dose off on the job after about 2.5 weeks of working these kinds of hours. Meanwhile the meth heads were throwing me under the bus. For sleeping on the job. When I was confronted by my boss about it. I was like I guess I can start doing meth like the rest of your star employees.
This. We lost a bunch of good drillers and helpers at the mine a few weeks back because they failed the drug test for weed. Meanwhile the degenerate crackheads and methheads who fuck everything up are still around because it gets out of your system in like a day or two so they pass every time. The system is so screwed up.

Carl Brutananadilewski you got it backwards. In work inviroments like the oilfield were working 100+ hours a week is the norm. The meth heads tend to run in packs and if you're not one of them they don't trust you. They are paranoid as fuck they look at you like a potential rat. Meth for the blue collar man is like steroids or Performance enhancement Drugs for Athletes... think Lance Armstrong. These guys are Superstars especially the young meth heads but eventually they all burn out. The process of them burning out takes many many years. It's not a fast burnout like people think. I new one guy that didn't burn out till he was in his 50's. Granted I don't know how old he was when he started using meth but he had been on it for years when I met him. One day he started spraying break cleaner all over his arms and legs. We always wore FR coveralls in the oil field, so nobody new how bad he had been picking at his skin. He totally lost it told us he had bugs laying eggs in his skin. It was sad I don't know what ever happened to the guy. I liked him he was a good dude he was one of the few meth heads I actually got along with.

I went through a crazy SIX interview process to become a manager at RED LOBSTER who is based out of florida which then was a ZERO TOLERANCE STATE. INTERVIEWED w everyone from regional manager to hr and a polygraph. Received an offer letter of $45k to start as an am to train in florida but needed one more step... A PISS TEST! I FAILED. Got a call from darden restaurants and was told i had thc present and asked if i could explain. Told him i hadnt smoked. Had been to a concert where everyone was smoking in the last week. Within HOURS i got a fed ex letter on red robin letterhead saying "unfortunately, we have to recind the offer due to the presence of thc"! I STILL have the letter and refuse to piss test EVER AGAIN! Its inaccurate and an invasion of my humanity! FK THAT!
It's all to do with insurance. Insurance give cheaper rates for companies that test. It's not a conspiracy; unfortunately the truth is that people who (mis)use drugs in an irresponsible way cause accidents. That costs the insurer.
That said, it's a shame that companies choose to use the cheapest tests possible in many cases, and as discussed don't ever deduce your state of consciousness, are not reliable and in any case cannot tell you if the substance in question was in any way responsible.

I had a random drug test for my job. Anyway...I was picked because the bosses knew everyone else smokes pot on there lunch break. And I passed it, I haven't smoked pot in 5 years! Joe Rogan needs to smoke with me,next time hopefully I'll have a medical marijuana card. I'm in Ohio and medical marijuana is coming in December! Yay! We won a tuff battle but the war will never be over!!

@bangmeister2012 that's cool, idk about driving while high. That seems like something a company might test for. Labor jobs like logistics warehouse labor and stuff I'm fine with. Getting trashed and working on serious stuff like elevators, military stuff, and flying planes are kinda my no go category. I knew a stoner that worked at a ice cream shop, best possible guy to have working there. Knew all the best combos and had a great attitude.

It's for insurance purposes. Some employees may care, but most of the time, it's because they get a reduction in insurance rates.
You can argue the morality of it, but considering that the first-line objective of a company is to make money, it's very difficult to persuade businesses to ignore this money-saving opportunity.

I have an uncle who was a former state trooper. He always calls people "scum" and "piece of trash" if he sees someone all tatted up or someone that consumes THC (smokin dope as he calls it). Meanwhile I'm over in a recliner realizing I have a higher paying job, college degree in a natural science, and didn't marry someone on a rebound. I got sober because it's not a good look to be a Dad and a heroin addict. At least in our current society. Sobriety is boring, let's face it. People get high because it is fun, it feels good. You only live once. But when it's time to grow up and be a Father, and you are a junkie, it's time to make some changes. At least for me. Don't get me wrong, I am proud of my ability to beat addiction. But I don't act like I am better than a methhead or heroin addict for my decision. I NEVER preach to people to get clean. It's none of my business.

Not the lack of production, but changes in receptor density. Dopamine receptor downregulation is a huge factor in losing motivation, which happens to all addicts at some point.

As a nurse, my facility has many patients on THC, CBD, Hybrids. I can't use it, even if it is legal recreationally and helps me deal with my sleep apnea and insomnia. I don't even like pot. I use it as medicine so I can sleep.
Come to my shop drunk, or high your fired or sent home. The blue collared work place is no place for intoxication. But if your high at home, and come to work clear with ko side affects, then ok. But if you get hurt at work and your drug test proves positive then liability is on you.
This is why we drug test, employers can't be held liable.

People who post about “6 months of sobriety” are taking a moment for pride in the self-betterment they’ve worked hard towards. An alcoholic posting this has made he virtuous choice, because for him alcohol was a serious problem. An historically responsible drinker doesn’t announce months sober because for them, abstaining is not a virtue. Context matters.
