Why go outside when you have social media? Why seek a partner when you have p*rn? Restaurants like this were a staple of my childhood. They were pretty much the only type of places besides fast food my parents could "treat us" to on a special occasion or family night out. People we knew worked at these restaurants, and I would even work at one in high school. They were packed on the weekends, filled with people from the community and other families we knew. I learned this years ago. Used to visit Chipotle, Moes, Qdoba multiple times a week after the gym. Well, they started to shrink the portions and raise prices. I can just go to a local Mexican restaurant, get way larger portions, along with free chips. Better service, all for less money.
My wife, daughter, and I can eat at Chili’s for about the same price as just 2 of us eating at Chick Fil A. The 3 for me deals are amazing for a drink, starter, and an entree starting at $11. We go to Chili’s every weekend now.
It's so rare to see a CEO who has such clear vision on the long view for the restaurant rather than jockeying with the street. Chili's is set for long term growth thanks to that - he's very competent and knows how the kitchen actually functions.

Chilies spent a decade losing their mind. Went from southwestern bar food to a bad Mexican Restaurant, to a microwave BBQ joint, and have come full circle back to being a Southwestern Bar Food place. If a fast food burger meal is going to always be $15, I might as well get a good one at a place like Chilies. Twin Peaks is growing and Hooters is falling because of simple selection and quality for the price.
We do Chilis fairly regularly nowadays and the experience is always great, so this success doesn't surprise me. Service is great, prices are extremely reasonable, and the food is consistenly good. I'm hardly surprised that they're kicking Appleebee's tail - the food is FAR better.
They hit what everyone wants. Good meal, tips accepted, Not overly pricey, Curbside pick-up. It's not fine dining nor fast food. It's right there in the middle or what they call the "sweet spot".
It's fast food pushing us out. Why pay 12 dollars for fast food when you can sit down and have better quality food that is the same price if not cheaper
The short answer is that they’re cheaper for a FULL decent meal compared to McDonald’s, etc. Heck, I took my mother there on Mother’s Day this year and had a good time too and paid under $30!🤣
See the problem they were having before is that people would rather spend a third of the money on greasy terrible food that's riddled with sugar and comes with a bucket of caffeinated syrup and a deep-fried potato, but when that costs the same or more than actual food made from the desirable parts of animals, even if it's not amazing in the grand scheme it's an infinitely better value and way more enjoyable experience.
I’m not surprised to hear Chili’s is doing well. I randomly went to one a few months ago - first time in a decade - and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the portions, and the price. The focus on delivering value shows. I’ve gone back a few more times since.
In an expensive world where going to a sit down is hard, Chili’s has made many people including me feel like you can go out and enjoy a dinner with your family and it not be a huge expense. Love Chili’s!
Crazy this video is made because we’ve been going back there the last couple years. Great value, good food, good service, and the biggest thing, they don’t rush you out like trendy restaurants and have a good menu for families. There is currently a HUGE gap in the restaurant market between counter services and trendy casual. The old school family restaurant is much needed.
I haven't been to Chili's in years, the one near me really went downhill. I don't mind paying a little more for better quality food/service. I loved it in the early 2000's though. Maybe it's worth giving another shot.
You selectively chose to ignore the millions of dollars they poured into renovating their restaurants, streamlining their production, and adapting their marketing strategy to resonate with current consumers. All of which was discussed quite a bit in the video you just watched.
While people are rightfully pointing out fast food prices being almost the same, I'd say there's a couple other things that are probably contributing as well. There's a whole generation of people who didn't grow up with the Chili's/TGIF/Applebee's days that had long went stale in the late 2000s and now realizing Chili's is actually pretty good for the price. Also, while it's long been cool to try the smaller, hipper restaurants, those places have been getting outrageously expensive and the quality isn't often there either. I really hope this trend continues as we need a middle ground again between fast food and hip restaurants, both of which have priced your average consumer out.
Going to Chilis with 5 siblings/cousins and just chilling for the afternoon without spending over 100 while getting really good food/service is why. They absolutely deserve the success, heck, I think it's time to go back this weekend

Investing can be a powerful tool for building wealth and securing financial stability especially in this hard time. but it’s important to understand that it’s not without its challenges. The investment landscape is inherently volatile, with periods of both gains and losses. This variability is a natural part of investing and requires a clear strategy and patience to navigate effectively.

Same reason why Valve is largely more successful at growing and maintaining customers... Continue to show your own value and let your competitors flop on pricing and lower their value. Americans take notice.
stacking up on cheap labor in most states for full service employees is the only reason chains like this are still profitable, and its those employees that are seeing less tables and less customers that will be hit hardest. a lot of chains are adopting this policy of taking advantage of cheap labor (because they are tipped employees ) but they arent giving them the ability to make nearly as many tips
Last week there was a heat wave and I went to Chili's a lot. They have a pick 3 menu. You can get a steak and veggies and soup and drink all for like 17 dollars. Add a cheap marg and it's 21. Or you can go to del taco for a 13 ish dollar meal. Yes with apps you can make fast food cheap but once you add the non nutritional value of fast food, that adds a reason to eat at a restaurant. And in ambience, TV, customer service, social experiences, and ordering cheap at a restaurant sounds like a great time. Chili's, applebees, norms, ihop, and the similar small restaurants are looking better as fast food prices rise but stay the same in quality.
I remember as a kid , Chili's used to be a considered something fancy or for a big occasion, then it turned into some low rating restaurant and even closed many locations. I'm happy they're back on their feet again. It's an iconic brand from the 90's , early 00's.

I find the focus on staffing by Chili’s so cool. Staffing is expensive, but investing in it can indirectly drive greater sales. I think about Chick-fil-A. They HEAVILY staff their restaurants. There are people everywhere out in the parking lot taking orders from the drive through line. But, as a result, they can clear out a HUGE line in less than five minutes. And the food is hot every time. That simply wouldn’t be possible without the people to do it. Chick-fil-A is reaping the rewards of good staffing (amongst other good decisions) every single day. Anyway, I’m thinking of going to Chili’s!!
My family and friends stopped going because the service and especially the food at our closest location got to be absolute crap. Since they changed management/service, we have begun going back regularly. That's what a restaurant needs to look into when a location's numbers are tanking.
That's why it's better to support small mom-and-pop restaurants. Cheaper food and way better quality a lot of the time; at least, that's the experience for me.
a lot of mom and pop restaurants are not cheaper though... this video is about why people are going to chili's over fast food. Everyone knows quality most of the time is better in a non chain restaurant obviously...
I watched this, believed it, and ate Chilli's for the first time in 20 years. I was so disappointed that it would be another 20 years before I go back.
As someone who has helped manage a small family restaurant for about a dozen years now, I’ve learned the hard way that there are some potential customers who are so budget conscious, that that outweighs even potential quality differences in the food. For instance, our place is a small ethnic food joint. There is a local supermarket grocery store that has one of the most famous dishes in our cuisine pre-cooked, and sitting in a warmer in a to go container for hours until someone buys it. Is it cheaper than our place, which is 100% cooked to order? Yes. Well, we had one bossy woman come in get upset because apparently we “are more expensive than the local grocery store”, which we are. But she’s comparing that slop to something fresh and piping hot.
So let’s be real, it is due to social media! Chilis has ALWAYS had deals but the viral videos of the Mozzarella sticks have helped significantly! Social media food reviewers have been trying the mozz sticks and other things and they have went viral! It is a similar anomaly to the Popeyes chicken sandwiches.

We started going because of the 3 for me deals. For our family of 4, we easily are hitting $45 for a fast food drive thru. We started going to chilis this year and we are only paying easily $40 and we are leaving with left overs. Its insane. These waiters also deserve a tip for serving and waiting on us. In my opinion, we have so many escapist activities today (social media, video games, p*rn, etc.) that people are incentivized to live their lives without actually living their lives, if that makes sense. Why go outside when you have social media? Why seek a partner when you have p*rn? Speaking from experience, once you fall into that type of stuff, it takes a ton of effort to get yourself outside and live in the real world. I have always liked Chilis and I am kinda bougie! Relatively high income but still frugal. I like sitting down and being served for a reasonable price for reasonably good food.
Seeing fast food overtake these places is sad, but I'm glad to see them make a comeback. They can be decent quality meals and it can be a real highlight for working class/middle class family.

They were still struggling when they had their original "3 for $10 special" that included an entree, a soft drink, and an appetizer. And I remember sometimes they had specials with that, such as lunch-size fajitas or even a 6 oz sirloin steak with 2 sides. That was a spectacular deal. I remember telling workers there I felt guilty about spending so little but they said they were fine with people taking advantage of their deals.
That's changed now to a "3 for Me" with variable pricing. Even $16.99 for the 6 oz sirloin with the soft drink and appetizer was a pretty good deal compared to any of their competitors. $10.99 with a burger A Quarter Pounder with Cheese, large fries, and large drink at my closest McDonald's is more than that and the burger isn't as good.
As far as value goes, I remember the big secret used to be that lunch specials could be ordered at any time. I mentioned that I missed the lunch special and was told that the special could be ordered any time. Maybe not any more, but I remember I could go to most locations and order a half order of ribs that came with fries and cinammon apples for $6.99. At least one location said they hadn't heard of it. Then later they changed that to a $9.99 half rack, or later 2 orders of half racks with either a sharable appetizer or two side salads.
i loved how fast they are. i literally walked in, ordered, walked to the rest room and came back and my appetizer was ready

Also, while it's long been cool to try the smaller, hipper restaurants, those places have been getting outrageously expensive and the quality isn't often there either.

stacking up on cheap labor in most states for full service employees is the only reason chains like this are still profitable, and its those employees that are seeing less tables and less customers that will be hit hardest. a lot of chains are adopting this policy of taking advantage of cheap labor (because they are tipped employees ) but they arent giving them the ability to make nearly as many tips
Last week there was a heat wave and I went to Chili's a lot. They have a pick 3 menu. You can get a steak and veggies and soup and drink all for like 17 dollars. Add a cheap marg and it's 21. And in ambience, TV, customer service, social experiences, and ordering cheap at a restaurant sounds like a great time. Chili's, applebees, norms, ihop, and the similar small restaurants are looking better as fast food prices rise but stay the same in quality.

My family and friends stopped going because the service and especially the food at our closest location got to be absolute crap. Since they changed management/service, we have begun going back regularly. That's what a restaurant needs to look into when a location's numbers are tanking.

1st world problems
