More businesses need to listen to their customers. The worst business is a business that just wants to do whatever they want. Life doesn’t work that way because in their case the goal is to try to please the customer. But some businesses are so stupid they just don’t learn.

I learned this years ago. Used to visit Chipotle, Moes, Qdoba multiple times a week after the gym. Well, they started to shrink the portions and raise prices. I can just go to a local Mexican restaurant, get way larger portions, along with free chips. Better service, all for less money.

And I remember sometimes they had specials with that, such as lunch-size fajitas or even a 6 oz sirloin steak with 2 sides. That was a spectacular deal. I remember telling workers there I felt guilty about spending so little but they said they were fine with people taking advantage of their deals. That's changed now to a "3 for Me" with variable pricing. Even $16.99 for the 6 oz sirloin with the soft drink and appetizer was a pretty good deal compared to any of their competitors. $10.99 with a burger A Quarter Pounder with Cheese, large fries, and large drink at my closest McDonald's is more than that and the burger isn't as good. As far as value goes, I remember the big secret used to be that lunch specials could be ordered at any time. I mentioned that I missed the lunch special and was told that the special could be ordered any time. Maybe not any more, but I remember I could go to most locations and order a half order of ribs that came with fries and cinammon apples for $6.99. At least one location said they hadn't heard of it. Then later they changed that to a $9.99 half rack, or later 2 orders of half racks with either a sharable appetizer or two side salads.
I would love to see social activity come back. Remember, we used to go to the movies. then out to Chili’s for dinner. Or people used to play mini putt. People used to go rollerskating and bowling 🎳
In my opinion, we have so many escapist activities today (social media, video games, p*rn, etc.) that people are incentivized to live their lives without actually living their lives, if that makes sense. Why go outside when you have social media? Why seek a partner when you have p*rn? Speaking from experience, once you fall into that type of stuff, it takes a ton of effort to get yourself outside and live in the real world. And obviously COVID amplified all of those problems for a ton of people.

Chili's has controlled its prices far more than other restaurants. I mostly don't go out anymore but when I do it's likely something like chili's or red robin largely due to prices. I used to love going to restaurants but most of them have priced themselves out.
Red Robin?? That place has always been glorified fast food, too expensive for what they serve. I don't know anyone who has gone there more than once. I definitely wouldn't put them up there with restaurants like Chili's or Texas Roadhouse though.
I may be one of the luckiest nephews, my aunt, who was a manager of Chilis Philippines for 12 years. I grew up eating Chilis every day; my aunt can bring Chilis food back home every day, and we can even request. This goes until we become teens and almost have to complain because we have to eat it almost every day. Now I even miss Chilis. They have the best food, especially quesadillas and nacho chips. Also, there was never a day we missed the opportunity to attend their burger day. She said, if you are a manager, you have the privilege to bring food for free.
As a pharma rep vendor, Chili's is my go to for catering client lunches. I spend $1000-$2000 per month on Chili's lunches. My clients love the food, my employer loves the low prices and I love the vendor points. Long Live Chili's ribs. :)
It's because, customers realized why pay $20 dollars for a low quality cheap burger from McDonald's. When you can either pay roughly around the same price for a way better quality burger from dine-in restaurants like Chili's. If you have a choice pay $13 dollars for a Burger and fries from McDonald's or $13.50 for a burger and fries from Chili's, most will choose Chili's. Unfortunately for most FastFood, they were meant to be quick and CHEAP. But now their prices are getting into fast-casual prices like Chili's. And their expensive low quality burgers don't cut for those prices. When your prices are on par with dine-in folks are gonna choose dine-in.
Wife and I bought two "combo" meals at a fast food restaurant this week and when I saw the bill, I turned to her and even said, "We could have eaten at Chili's for this cost". It would have tasted better than the fast food as well. I know where we'll be eating next and it won't be a fast food chain.

Increases in fast food prices have helped this tier of restaurant the most. For just a few dollars more people can get a decent meal here compared to over-priced fast food. In my area it cost me $22 to eat a meal from McDs. A Chili's meal is in the same price range
We do Chilis fairly regularly nowadays and the experience is always great, so this success doesn't surprise me. Service is great, prices are extremely reasonable, and the food is consistenly good. I'm hardly surprised that they're kicking Appleebee's tail - the food is FAR better.

Chilies spent a decade losing their mind. Went from southwestern bar food to a bad Mexican Restaurant, to a microwave BBQ joint, and have come full circle back to being a Southwestern Bar Food place. If a fast food burger meal is going to always be $15, I might as well get a good one at a place like Chilies. Twin Peaks is growing and Hooters is falling because of simple selection and quality for the price.
As a former server/bartender there, I love how everyone is pumped, but working there is what I imagine hell to be like 😂 and everyone saying it puts money into the servers pocket is wrong, the server makes less while the big corporate company is banking in.
My wife, daughter, and I can eat at Chili’s for about the same price as just 2 of us eating at Chick Fil A. The 3 for me deals are amazing for a drink, starter, and an entree starting at $11. We go to Chili’s every weekend now.
In an expensive world where going to a sit down is hard, Chili’s has made many people including me feel like you can go out and enjoy a dinner with your family and it not be a huge expense. Love Chili’s!
Crazy this video is made because we’ve been going back there the last couple years. Great value, good food, good service, and the biggest thing, they don’t rush you out like trendy restaurants and have a good menu for families. There is currently a HUGE gap in the restaurant market between counter services and trendy casual. The old school family restaurant is much needed.
Restaurants like this were a staple of my childhood. They were pretty much the only type of places besides fast food my parents could "treat us" to on a special occasion or family night out. People we knew worked at these restaurants, and I would even work at one in high school. They were packed on the weekends, filled with people from the community and other families we knew. Seeing fast food overtake these places is sad, but I'm glad to see them make a comeback. They can be decent quality meals and it can be a real highlight for working class/middle class family.
While people are rightfully pointing out fast food prices being almost the same, I'd say there's a couple other things that are probably contributing as well. There's a whole generation of people who didn't grow up with the Chili's/TGIF/Applebee's days that had long went stale in the late 2000s and now realizing Chili's is actually pretty good for the price. Also, while it's long been cool to try the smaller, hipper restaurants, those places have been getting outrageously expensive and the quality isn't often there either. I really hope this trend continues as we need a middle ground again between fast food and hip restaurants, both of which have priced your average consumer out.
Fast prices have risen to the point of being unaffordable, so why not have a better meal that is cheaper especially since you can order it online and pick it up on the way home.
The short answer is that they’re cheaper for a FULL decent meal compared to McDonald’s, etc. Heck, I took my mother there on Mother’s Day this year and had a good time too and paid under $30!🤣
It's so rare to see a CEO who has such clear vision on the long view for the restaurant rather than jockeying with the street. Chili's is set for long term growth thanks to that - he's very competent and knows how the kitchen actually functions.
I worked at a chili's in Flower Mound Texas in the togo section. One day the newly hired CEO came to our chili's to learn how the company's togo system worked. I got to serve him and talk to him for a bit with my manager. Was pretty awesome. I miss that job so much! I had to quit to go to college and I had developed an allergy to some of the things in the restaurant. I made such good money thought, like 20 - 30 dollars per hour.
My wife, 2 kids, and I were able to eat a full meal with drinks for way less than any fast food joint. That's including tax/tip. And the quality of the food is surprisingly good!
It's fast food pushing us out. Why pay 12 dollars for fast food when you can sit down and have better quality food that is the same price if not cheaper
20 years ago, Chili's was absolutely the place to go for birthdays, celebrations, and special occasions. It's improving it's offerings and value while fast food is focusing on brand. I'm not paying $20 for your brand, I just wanna eat.
Chilli's always slapped and was affordable. Never had a bad experience. Might be just my area but I'm glad to see the franchise get more business. Also always felt this way about TGI, IHOP, Dennys and Applebee's. Great places to go that are usually affordable if you get the right items. Can be expensive. Once paid 30 for a big ass lunch with tip. Didn't plan on it but I was hungry so what can I say? lol
Last week there was a heat wave and I went to Chili's a lot. They have a pick 3 menu. You can get a steak and veggies and soup and drink all for like 17 dollars. Add a cheap marg and it's 21. Or you can go to del taco for a 13 ish dollar meal. Yes with apps you can make fast food cheap but once you add the non nutritional value of fast food, that adds a reason to eat at a restaurant. And in ambience, TV, customer service, social experiences, and ordering cheap at a restaurant sounds like a great time. Chili's, applebees, norms, ihop, and the similar small restaurants are looking better as fast food prices rise but stay the same in quality.
The timing of this video feels ironic. About a month ago, randomly went to a nearby chilis for lunch. And boy was I blown away. I sort of forgot they existed for so long. But the food was good, the atmosphere was good. And the 3 for $10.99 menu, not only made it a great budget option by itself, but coupled with its quality and sit down experience, made it antop tier option, and one I’m repeatedly wanting to go back to.
a lot of social media influencers recently showing off Chilis as well probably the biggest influence in uptick sales tbh.. personally I grew up going to Chilis and still is a fave to me 😂
My wife and I went to Chilli's 2 weeks ago after a WNBA game. We ate in the car because they were about to close. She's been talking about going back since then!
I love Chili's! Its 3 for me for $11 is simply too good to ignore. I'd much rather spend $11 to be served good and hot food, then go to a fast-food drive through.
I got it and was shocked the ingredients seemed high quality especially considering the price, plus you get fries appetizer and drink it’s a great deal
I'm currently living in Manila. There's a few Chili's here and they're always full of people. The servings are plentiful for the price and taste great. Even here in Southeast Asia, McDonalds and KFC prices are increasing. I'd rather spend US$5 in Chili's than McDonalds.
It's because you can eat a meal and tip and still be cheaper than fast food

Another key factor is you can actually find something reasonably healthy at Chilli's. They sell vegetables, kids need vegetables.

They were still struggling when they had their original "3 for $10 special" that included an entree, a soft drink, and an appetizer.
Heck, I took my mother there on Mother’s Day this year and had a good time too and paid under $30!🤣
Glad to see American companies going back to real competition
It's so rare to see a CEO who has such clear vision on the long view for the restaurant rather than jockeying with the street. Chili's is set for long term growth thanks to that - he's very competent and knows how the kitchen actually functions.
I worked at a chili's in Flower Mound Texas in the togo section. One day the newly hired CEO came to our chili's to learn how the company's togo system worked. I got to serve him and talk to him for a bit with my manager. Was pretty awesome. I miss that job so much! I had to quit to go to college and I had developed an allergy to some of the things in the restaurant. I made such good money thought, like 20 - 30 dollars per hour.
i have no idea why but i genuinely smiled watching this video. keep it up chilis! you've got my support!
Plus they sell alcohol!
20 years ago, Chili's was absolutely the place to go for birthdays, celebrations, and special occasions. It's improving it's offerings and value while fast food is focusing on brand. I'm not paying $20 for your brand, I just wanna eat.
Were going back to chili’s boys
That 3 for me is clutch 😂😂😂
The smash burger is good, but I still want my baby back, baby back, baby back...ribs.
Why is the interview audio so bad. You guys are a major media outlet
it sounded fine on my iphone 4s. - Charles Ryu
@CharlesRyu It sounded even better on my Nokia 5190 -Not Charles Ryu
I agree, it sounds like they didn't have the lapel mics on and it was just captured by a boom mic.
Ya it was not very clear and also the song was a little loud while the CEO talked
Didn't plan on it but I was hungry so what can I say? lol
🗣️ I WANT MY BABY BACK BABY BACK BABY BACK I WANT MY BABY BACK BABY BACK BABY BACK
Yep, ribs is still best item on Chili's menu.
longest ad for Chili's I've ever watched lol
Never stopped going to chilis! Will always be a #1 supporter
Going back? We never left, baby 🌶🌶🌶
Because in some cases it's cheaper than fast food!
Ok, but please bring back the original Chicken Crispers 🫶🏼
If you eat the good and hot food then go through a drive through you are still eating both...
I got it and was shocked the ingredients seemed high quality especially considering the price, plus you get fries appetizer and drink it’s a great deal
Make TACOs Great Again 🌮 Taco 🔔
I'm currently living in Manila. There's a few Chili's here and they're always full of people. The servings are plentiful for the price and taste great.
Even here in Southeast Asia, McDonalds and KFC prices are increasing. I'd rather spend US$5 in Chili's than McDonalds.
