Horses are for rich people. My "Brother from another mother" was roped in to owning not 1 but 2 race horses back in the late 1970's. Sometimes they made money, but mostly they lost races. The boarding fees, food, vet and farrier bills were HUGE! The final straw was when the other partner suggested sending the racehorse to Florida for the winter for training. I have 3 sons that I payed for them to get through local 2 year college. The oldest one got a job at a local electric utility company who then helped his brother get in the same company. One is a lineman making 210k. One is a high voltage electrician. He makes about $200K. This with OT of course. Both worked to get their youngest brother a job in the same company and he’s a technician doing about $162K. He’s only 24 and not in the OT so much. Bottom line is there are jobs out there if you’re willing to work and look for them. These jobs still have pensions, medical and dental benefits, and the 401(k) which is self funded. Sometimes they work 12 14, 16 hrs a day. But the two older ones have homes and are leading good lives because they’re willing to work for something. I am a retired barefoot trimmer and have one statement to make for this farrier: GET MORE CLIENTS-GROW YOUR BUSINESS! - Doing it part-time, I was trimming 70 horses Per Month at $35 a horse. And I was in my 50's!
When I hear people like this I can't help but think, where did the parent's go wrong. I know a lot about this from observing others as well as my own upbringing.
Honestly, its often not about the parents. I was raised in thr same house with 2 siblings and they are disasters. We were all raised with the same values, same rules. We were all punished accordingly. Bad behavior wasn't tolerated or encouraged. Education was equally emphasized. But for some reason they both decided to skip school, do drugs, get into trouble, and just make bad decisions, regardless of consequences, and I just did what I was supposed to. And as adults they meander from job to job, from boyfriend to boyfriend, and are constantly moving back in with parents while I have a good career and a completely stable life. Sometimes there is just no logical explanation.
It sounds like he wouldn’t have had to pay it back if he went to get a college education. I’m pretty sure they made that clear which is why his siblings aren’t in this situation.
He lost me at $15,000. My partner is a farrier, and he has way more work than he can handle. He gets $200 per horse and even tho he's elderly, he can easily shoe 4 or 5 horses a day. This guy is just in the wrong area. Show horse and race horse people pay a LOT for a good farrier.
In fairness to the caller, he's 23 or something, not "elderly". He stated himself that he could make good money if he had enough clients. Money is way better now than it was back when my partner started out, and he still made good money starting out. He just needs to go to a horse centric area if he wants to make a good living. I know of 3 blacksmiths right now that make well over 100k a year. You have to be where the work is.
Easily. I know of 3 making over that right now. But you have to be where the work is. Sadly he liked to smoke pot a little too much and while we were both working our rear ends off as engineers, he quit (worked at the same place) because he knew he would fail a drug test. He started building houses as a construction worker instead. He is a case study in how dangerous pot really is. in all fairness he can get a job that pays him at least 40k grow with that. his side is already making $10k a year which is impressive most people don't make any money. he can create a youtube or tiktok and make shorts and grow that and he is set. I could understand why he would be jealous of his sibling with his family paying for their school but I'm assuming his parents wanted him to go college and he chose not to so they wrote him off. If college isn't for him he can always go to trade school and have a lucractive job their. good luck
I must be real old. Parents were drunks, wound up at my Grandparent at 12. 2 years later, Mom, wanted to take us to the other end of the country. I refused and ask Grans to stay. Stayed for 5 years of high school. At 17 Gramp was due to retire and I didn’t want to be a burden. Left, went to Trade School for five month and got a job. The rest is history. Sent them money every month, until Gramps told me to stop. Well, I kept that money in the bank. Moved to a better less crowded city, got a better job, over twice the pay, bought a house and the rest is history. Yep, retired for the last 23 years. Shit I’m old😂😊
A 23 year old preteen. There is hope though. He could listen to this sound advice, go get a full time job, keep this side-hustle he has, and repay his parents ASAP. That would be such an alpha move.
This caller is 100 years late to the party. My father's father was a farrier. He supported his growing family on the income from that. He worked at before, during, and just after WWI. With the advent of the motor car, however, horses started to be less frequently used. So, about 100 years ago, he decided to became a carpenter-joiner. He did that for the rest of his life. In my living room, I have a table he made out of honey oak salvaged from English churches that had been bombed by the Germans during WWII. Lovely little table. The caller needs to accept what century he is living in. Go get a full-time job. Doesn't have to be with horses. Work with horses on the side, on evenings and weekends.
He definitely needs a full time job today. But, you're wrong about him being 100 years late to the party. Farriers are still in really high demand. In some places, like where I live, most have a waiting list to become their client. They can pretty much charge whatever they want because there aren't enough of them.
I side with the parents. Pretty damn ungrateful. He think his parents are the government or something? Do this on the side while getting a FT job with benefits.
You can work a minimum wage part-time job and make more than $10K.. but I guess the caller is already doing that. Time to grow-up and stop asking Mommy and Daddy for money.
Find bigger ranches that need a hand! Farrier skills are great, but you need to be around hundreds and thousands of horses not dozens. You can do it, but you are going to have to eat dirt for while. Stop taking out these loans, too. That's putting the horse before the cart and playing make believe. Don't give up on your dreams, but also don't expect it to be easy. 23 is YOUNG! You got to start this line a work young because eventually you will be too old to do it. Find that old farrier mentor on a big ranch and work for them.
Yea a big problem with this kid is his attitude and mindset, that’s the biggest reason why Dave was so hard on him, because he doesn’t have his head on straight
He needs to get a real job and be a Farrier as a hobby. Problem is, he doesn’t want a real job. He just wants to play around in life. He feels ENTITLED to “loan forgiveness” because other siblings got school help. Pointing the finger never gets you ahead in life. Looking in the mirror does.
I myself am realizing my small company is only a side hussle and i need something else. Hard pill to swallow when you still owe money on the equipment you financed. Also, i can't be a stripper.
Even if the parents were to forgive the loan, he still can't support himself, and he'll just be asking them for more later. It also sounds like he's still living at home. He's so comfortable that he has no motivation to make more money.
Ferries make good money he just sounds like he’s not working it. I had friends that did it and they were killing it right out of high school. He needs to put in the work and get his name as someone that’s good and the money will come.
Wow can’t even imagine calling in and then the guy acts like working at fedex is beneath him while he owes his parents 10k and makes less than 15k before expenses.
There is nothing that is full proof, but here are a couple of tips. Have high expectations for your kids and communicate those expectations to them. From an early age, make them follow thru with tasks. If they start something and they don't like it, make them finish before allowing them to move on. And most importantly, be honest with yourself and others about your kids. Too many parents make excuses for their little Prince and Princess and say not my kid, or my kid wouldn't do that and that only harms the kid in the end.
Fyi... I know a lot about this. See, I had a younger brother, key word had. He passed from a drug overdose at 48 years old due in no small part from my parent's failures. I saw the errors, but I was just a sibling, and there wasn't much I could do to change the way they enabled and made excuses for him.
Nice video. Not a criticism, I enjoy your insights. I tend to think prices could go higher if XAI220K rockets. But understand the logic for sandbagging estimates. My opinion is XAI220K breaks 1, perhaps reaches 10 ATH, if conditions are right. But broader forces are at play now. We’re moving into really unknown territory. And these entities are shrewd. I think there’s massive manipulation ahead. If XAI220K survives that, well, we’re likely in for a good pump.
I make more at my part time job than this guy, then I babysit and/or tutor and/or nanny up to 55 hours a week (75 hours in a week is my record). I'm also married. It sounds like he's working 10 hours a week or not charging enough.
I think his parents must be good financially. I don’t see anything wrong with him asking them to forgive 8 k (as long as it’s not a regular occurrence). But I also give them credit for not charging him interest.
He thought they’d help him figure out how to convince his parents to forgive the loan lol. I think that’s why he kept going back to that. Or at least validate him on “my parents are the bad guys here and I’m the victim” which makes perfect sense in his world but is not reality.
This guy wasn’t calling for financially advice, he wanted to know how to get them to forgive the loan lol

He needs to lay off the pot
in all fairness he can get a job that pays him at least 40k grow with that. his side is already making $10k a year which is impressive most people don't make any money. he can create a youtube or tiktok and make shorts and grow that and he is set.
Shit I’m old😂😊
I have a friend that has the same voice, same style of talking, and he is lazy and not responsible
Bro has no intention on getting a real job
A 23 year old preteen. There is hope though. He could listen to this sound advice, go get a full time job, keep this side-hustle he has, and repay his parents ASAP. That would be such an alpha move.
“Go get a job honey, and make some more money!!!!” 😂
I don't understand why farriers make so little money. They provide a critical service that is essentially at the veterinary level.
supply & demand. only so many horses in CO. /shrug
@@rvog6584 If people can't afford to properly care for their animals, they shouldn't have them.
They make a ton of money if they are booking clients- but he doesn’t sound like a real go-getter.
Look on Ken’s face when the guy said it wasn’t that much debt😂
@@bradycone Wow. Thank you. That's really interesting. Maybe the caller can build his business over time.
I side with the parents. Pretty damn ungrateful. He think his parents are the government or something?
Do this on the side while getting a FT job with benefits.
This sounds like a phony phone call from the Howard Stern show. Sounds like Richard Christy.
Hank hill gave up propane and propane accessories to work with horses.
🤣 Funniest call ever
Yea a big problem with this kid is his attitude and mindset, that’s the biggest reason why Dave was so hard on him, because he doesn’t have his head on straight
This call sounds like a fever dream my goodness
Definitely the worst caller I've ever heard.
Zero % interest. No pain for him, no gain for them. "It's not a real loan, so it should be forgiven."
This guy was 100% busting your balls dave lol
Dude has the maturity of a 10 year old.
😂😂😂😂 the facial expressions😂😂😂😂😂
I myself am realizing my small company is only a side hussle and i need something else. Hard pill to swallow when you still owe money on the equipment you financed. Also, i can't be a stripper.
Even if the parents were to forgive the loan, he still can't support himself, and he'll just be asking them for more later. It also sounds like he's still living at home. He's so comfortable that he has no motivation to make more money.
Ferries make good money he just sounds like he’s not working it. I had friends that did it and they were killing it right out of high school. He needs to put in the work and get his name as someone that’s good and the money will come.
What’s good money? What was they making?
I'm in Az and they make bank out here.
Imagine calling in to Dave and saying this. Lol
Wow can’t even imagine calling in and then the guy acts like working at fedex is beneath him while he owes his parents 10k and makes less than 15k before expenses.
I love the stripper comment. Great job telling everyone that you have no plans to grow up any time soon.
The immature kid on the phone needs to get a life!!!
Sounds like his parents are right.
Dave,
As a concerned father. How do I make sure in 15 or 20 years my son doesn’t make a phone call like this. 😂😂
Take another toke dude we got all day
I make more at my part time job than this guy, then I babysit and/or tutor and/or nanny up to 55 hours a week (75 hours in a week is my record). I'm also married. It sounds like he's working 10 hours a week or not charging enough.
I almost spit my water when Dave called him honey in the end
The way the kid is talking, he sounds like he's been spending his money on weed rather than paying his folks back...
Dave handed some decent advice at 04:51 but it went right over homeboy's head. Oh well.
There are tons of social media channels that feature ferriers, create a channel and try to make $ doing videos
They certainly don't make 25 an hour throwing boxes at Amazon in my area
I don't know where they do
So what. He can work anywhere at 40 hours a week and make more than he is making now.
My Daughter started at Amazon a few weeks ago. She makes 18 something an hour.
My XAI220K is still pumping...thank you
So many of these young adults are incapable of taking care of themselves 🤦♀️
I can see why his parents got upset. Just listening to him talk has me annoyed.
I often think Dave forgets that a lot of jobs require drug screens.
counter -- a lotta jobs in places like CO no longer test 4 pot [!!]
I think his parents must be good financially. I don’t see anything wrong with him asking them to forgive 8 k (as long as it’s not a regular occurrence). But I also give them credit for not charging him interest.
He can ask but I would agree with his parents. He needs to actually work full time and stop smoking pot
That was one of the worst calls in a while. What advice did he think Dave Ramsey was going to give him?
He thought they’d help him figure out how to convince his parents to forgive the loan lol. I think that’s why he kept going back to that.
Or at least validate him on “my parents are the bad guys here and I’m the victim” which makes perfect sense in his world but is not reality.
Hahaha. This was great. 😂😂
He said he will become a stripper at the end! 😂
