Finally, someone with a measure of wisdom & common sense asks a question worth answering. There is a Truth that very few people can comprehend even though it is right in front of them. It's called "Fake News".
The experiences of 60 years of life have taught me one thing, the only way to know if something is true is to see it with your own eyes.
I am not boasting when I say, I have been on the front page of a newspaper 6 times in my life and not one of the front page articles reported the correct facts of the situation.
All this said, only a small fraction of what is on TH-cam is real, with the majority being fabricated for "clicks & views". I would suggest, the majority of what we have been told about human history is "False".
If anyone is interested, let me know and I will point you in the right direction.

I was born in 62. Vocals like Steve Perry, Ann Wilson, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Nicks, Neil Young and so on. I just took them for granted. Now comparing {there are a few amazing vocalist today} but most of the vocalist today just do not have the raw energy or stage present we had in 67-86. Just an old guy's opinion. LOL

We were on tour and finished a song in the parking lot 2 hours before going on and played it that night. Our Bassist didn't want to, but we did and the crowd loved it. Of course we were no where near Journey caliber, but still, it was pretty crazy!

This was part of the soundtrack of the original movie Tron. Part of the reason for the synthesizer, since the movie is about video games and going into one.

I think you're correct, that they just learned it two weeks previous, as the recorded/newest version was a bit different and a bit better. After the recording, the live versions reflected this. If you haven't yet, check their 1981 hit, "Mother father."

The first couple times I heard this song on the radio I didn't catch who sang it. From the slightly bombastic style of the chorus I thought it was by the Moody Blues. It closely parallels their style. And there's a reason Steve Perry was known as The Voice.

As a guy who played in bands for over 20 years I'm sure this was not released when this performance was recorded. The studio version of this song was much more developed and refined than this version. When this was recorded many bands would write and rehearse new songs while they were on tour and often play these songs to develope them and also see how the audience responded to them. It was one of the things you hoped you would get when you went to see a concert.
