You could make a company just around this. Cheers, you are a real one! 🔥
Not all hero’s wear capes.
nice work and very simple design good for anyone who is looking to improve his wheel without breaking it or damaging it
Thank you!!
I have a g923 and I actually 3d printed an entire gt3 wheel rim. The best part of it is that, my school has a 3d printer and the staff let me 3d print an entire wheel. Epic.
Where did u find the model of that wheel? I’m quite interested in it^^
You go to a W school
A lot of work good job!
Amazing. Grrat work, and many thanks for sharing the STL files.
Im building a f1 type steering wheel for my son and this will top it up!
Thank you! I’m glad you found it useful!
Thank you very much for sharing stl file ❤❤❤❤you have good work..thank you
Nice man !
Muchas gracias por tu gran aporte, me entusiasma mucho para hacerme uno.
Cara obrigado por compartilhar sua ideia e os arquivos, estava pensando em tentar modelar algo do tipo, ja me ajudou demais, mais um inscrito!

Pretty cool
ookay i really want this now ill try to make this :D
Nice definitely going to try
Thank you so much for your positive feedback! All the best!
Hello! Nice improvement that helps to feel steering wheel more realistic and also makes playing more comfortable for ppl with big hands. I think that change of ballbearings to bb bullets will improve the design, printable spring will also help to those who could not find metal one.
That could be a good alternative!
is there any way to use another type of spring i cant find any airtight container in my country that works
thanks man
Can you use a different steering wheel with this set up or do you have to use the g29 wheel
this man is picking up what amstudio used todo.
aww man i want a way in which i can make asteering wheel base for the steering system in th f1 game (wheel base) .....anyone have any idea
Friend congratulations for your very top project I downloaded the files and printed, I ended up building the spring, but I'm not able to find the spheres in this measure of 5 mm where did you find it? is there any specific bearing or vehicle part that i can find them? Thanks in advance!
Thank you! Here is the Amazon link that i used for the ball bearings.

what do you mean with you builded the spring i still need the spring so i can build it together
Hello i like your video and your work very much it is one of the best free diy quick release out there ! Can i ask you why the bottom shaft you split it in two pieces and you didnt make it as one? Thank you
Thank you very much Dimitri! I did that because the base has 4 bosses on the bottom and it was easier to print it upside down instead of printing it with support and then having to clean it. Those bosses are there to ensure the base doesn’t slip at all.
@@diyengineeringprojects8499 thank you for your answer i ll try it because its a nice and not very expensive diy mod . The only difficulty for me is the conical spring
That is amazing and creative work. Any plans on doing a sort of quickrelease for Thrustmaster?
Thank you! I’ve uploaded the cad files (link in description) so anyone can modify the mounting arrangement to suit different steering wheels!
Theres already one for the T300RS, im guessing it should be there for newer ones too.
This is my modified version for 70mm wheels: drive.google.com/file/d/1SUQ9RA6eu6_0Q8pFGe5Z3IFoN-OAfrxS/view
hello great project I really congratulate you, I only have one question of what diameter is the spring needed?
Thank you. See Details bellow:
Small End: Outside Diameter: 30mm
Inside Diameter: 27mm
Large End: Outside Diameter: 39mm
Inside Diameter: 36mm
Spring Height: 28mm
@@diyengineeringprojects8499 do you have a link I can’t find it
I have an idea, this is similar to a real life racing quick release with the plugs
This setup seems can fit a t300rs steering connector which is also 7 pins like g29
Maybe this can make a quick release steering but with workings button
(My English is not good so hard to explain)
Degrees FFB with this mod?
melhor que vi até agora.
Thanks!!
Muito foda seu trabalho amigo
Thank you!
Hello a question i have cause iam thinking of changing my old quick release cause it have some play up and down and right to left ,and iam between yours cause i like ti the most from all the 3d quick release plants ive seen and a mettalic one. So my question is ,does it have any play wheb you push the wheel right and left or up and down? Not when you turn the wheel . Thank you
Hi. The mechanism is pretty rigid in the axial direction (up and down) however there is minimal play left to right, mostly comming from the steering wheel body itself. if you want to completely eliminate the play coming from the quick release mechanism you should modify the model of the splined shaft to slightly increase the diameter of the that is between the hexagonal base and the groove and then sand it down for a perfect fit.
Hey man do someone nows what the name of the output if the white thing is on 8:00
do you have the CAD files for the shaft or is there a name for it?
СПАСИБО!!! очень помогли
Привет, подскажи ссылку на stl файлы
This is a fantastic idea and very well executed for the G29, G920 and G923, only if you are using the stock wheel, a very light car wheel or a very light printed wheel. It is not strong enough for an after market wheel unfortunately, or I am too rough of a driver 🤷♂
I printed it in PLA, PLA+, ABS, ABS+, ASA and even PETG, even tried a combination of different materials and they all break off against the wheel with the splined cup, the shaft holds up pretty decently in PLA+. I printed it with 50%, 70%, 80%, 100% and even changed my extrusion multiplier to make my lines a bit thicker on the infill. Some broke the moment I put my wheel on, others held up ok, but snapped off when I tried to counter steer. Its an odd feeling when you are mid drift and need to throw the wheel and end up almost throwing the wheel out the door, lmao.
I have to add that I do not have the stock wheel though, I'm running a large deep dish Nadri replica wheel with a 3D printed hub adaptor and it is quite heavy. I would have loved to keep this mod on my rig because I'm a major fan of the design and simplicity, seems I would need to go back to my ol trusty solid printed hub adaptor.
@diyengineeringprojects8499, would it be possible for you to send a link to the step file, maybe I can make the adjustments and see if I can get it to last on my rig setup ?
hey, can you please send me the spring and metal ball amazon links or wherever you got them from? I've been doing some digging and can't seem to find them. I'm asking you because it seems like you have the quick release all printed out and ready for assembly. thanks!
Hey bud, my wife had a spare container that had the required conical spring, so I used that. For the balls, I used plain ol plastic bb pellets, they fitted nicely, and required no effort to make fit, but I'm still at a loss in terms of strength.
I started redesigning it myself with strength in mind for a larger diammeter and heavier wheel, but stopped design work for now due to some DIY house renovation projects me and my wife want to complete.
i got the spring from one of these containers (see link)
www.amazon.co.uk/Airtight-Storage-Container-Containers-Organized/dp/B07SG95V3T
its currently unavailable, but if you find something similar, you should be able to use the spring. For the ball bearings, i dont remember which ones i bought but just do a quick search on amazon and you should be able to find something that'll work.
Thank you so much for your positive feedback, and I'm glad you liked the design!
Unfortunately, I no longer have the original CAD models for the hub, but I have a suggestion for you. You could try importing the STL files into a CAD software and convert them into solid parts. It's worth a shot to make adjustments and see if it better suits your setup.
I hope you can find a solution that works well for your specific wheel and driving style. Good luck with your modifications!
@@diyengineeringprojects8499 Thank you buddy, I really like this design and want to make it work for me 😁
So I tried importing the STL's into SolidWorks as solid bodies (as I usually do when I edit STL's) but I had all kinds of errors with the import and the geometry was way off. It might be because we use the Metric system where I live (cm and mm) and that might be where the issue came about. To give you an idea, if I import the STL's and try to make an assembly, the parts do not fit at all lmao. I even tried to open it and resave as step file with Fusion 360 to no avail.
What I ended up doing was taking the printed part, measuring and redrawing the part in SolidWorks trying to make the parts beefy and more solid. So far the parts I've redrawn and printed have been holding up nicely in PETG at 80% infill.
The only issues I have still are:
I need to edit the ball holders as the BB pellets fall out when I press to release them to go over the splined shaft
And I need to edit the ball placement as well as I'm off by a large margin and the balls do not seat at all, but I will get to that once I have some free time again.
Thanks again for an epic design bud 💪
I'm working to modify the attach points for 70mm standard. I'll post them once i finished the job.
Did you finish it :?
@@comemasset I've published the files some time ago but unfortunatly they're not available anymore and I can't find them on my PC
No problem, thx for the answer 😊@@DanieleBorsari
I know it been a while, but what settings did you use in CURA to print this? I have printed multiple on different settings. but the Shaft and Mounting plate wont slide together. Any recommendations would be great. I have setting set as of now 60% infill, and Super Quality .12mm, with supports on.
I dont see any problem with the settings, although I prefer 100% infill to give it some more strength. You can try to sand down the shaft diameter or modify it using a CAD software to reduce the outer diameter from 21.6mm to 21.2mm.
@@diyengineeringprojects8499 I'll give that a shot. Thank you for responding and great job!
Nice design but i still have one question. Where do I get the box which contains the spring you used? Do you have a link or the name of it?

Do you know any other way to buy the spring? I'm not too keen on buying the food containers just for extracting the spring from them. I've looked on amazon and ebay and couldn't find anything that's the right dimensions...
No unfortunately I don’t know where to get the spring on its own.
Hello again another question i have ,cause iam having problems finding the spring ,is what other options of srings i have to use ?
You can use the CAD models as a guide and look around for a spring that fits. I got mine from one of these containers i had lying around:
www.amazon.co.uk/Airtight-Storage-Container-Containers-Organized/dp/B07SG95V3T
Hi i have printed it out with .4 and .2 tips and the shaft will not fit into the Mounting Plate with a ender pro what are your setting
Hi. You can try sanding/filing down the shaft if it looks like its not that much larger than the splined hole. I personally used the standard quality settings and just change the infill and it worked fine.
Hi great job. I can not find fussion 360 files. Only stl files. Can you share fussion 360 - step files for editing?
Don’t think I still have the original files but here’s a link that’ll help you out
m.all3dp.com/2/fusion-360-import-stl-simply-explained/
Hi, I have a question. When the wheel is lengthened with this quick release, can the steering wheel mechanisms not be damaged? and other question is the shifters are not very far?
I've been using my steering wheel with the QR mechanism for more than a year now and I had no issues with it or the G29. regarding the paddle shifters, i can reach mine comfortably but this will depend on the size of your hands!
Brilliant work! Do you have any csl dd or csl pedal stl projects?
Thank you! No i don’t currently own a Fanatec wheel so haven’t really looked into designing parts for Fanatec but it’s something that I could probably do in the future!
@diyengineeringprojects8499 either way you're an asset to the sim racing hobby.
Absolute genius mind mate
Could it be installed inverted? With the section with the spring attached to the base instead to the wheel?
Yes you could do that! But make sure to switch the features on the base of the two parts so that they sit properly.
Nice video! thank you. Why is the additional wight for the adapter important tho? is there any limit in case I want to put a new heavy steering wheel?
Thanks! Not really, as long as the weight of the new steering wheel is reasonable it should be fine. I just included it because i thought it would be interesting.
unfortunately the Amazon article which contains the spring is no longer available, is it possible to have a similar spring?
Thanks you !
Hi, just look for containers that look similar. They are all just a generic design so you should be able to find one that'll work. Good luck.
Nice work, can it be adapted for a DFGT?
I would have to take apart one to say for sure but if the steering wheel of a Driving Force GT can be separated from the base then i dont why it shouldn't work! But most probably some modification to the mounting flange of the quick release mechanism will be necessary.
Amazing work! , but wehere can i find the spring?
here is the link to the food container i sourced the spring from www.amazon.co.uk/Airtight-Storage-Container-Containers-Organized/dp/B07SG95V3T

hi, I need your help I just lost the 6 screw from back of the wheel. what size exactly is that screw?
They’re probably M6 or M8. Not sure about the pitch though, from what I remember they had quite a course thread. Just search on eBay I’m sure you’ll find something similar

Hello, do you sell it? Or where can I buy it? Thank you, great video and I need it. Greetings from Mexico
Hello! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately, I don't sell the product myself. However, you can take the STL files to a 3D printing shop, and they can print it for you. After that, you'll need to source the required balls and find a suitable spring to make it functional. This way, you can have the part made locally.
is there any way to add compatibility for a circular 7 pin connector
Sure but this would complicate things. You can check out this video where i showed a simpler way of adding functional buttons.

i want to do the same mod for my g920, but i want to fit a Momo Mod. 07 wheel to it, but i don't know where to get the mesaurements to adjust the side where you attach the wheel

@@marcomuraro9237 you can modify it using a CAD software such as Fusion 360.
how many kilos of compression must the spring have? Soft or hard?
Hello, do you have by any chance a file for g27 or g25? Thank you
Unfortunately not, but you could easily modify the base plate to fit any steering wheel using a CAD software like Fusion 360.
How reliable is it ? Won't it break apart if used with a direct drive (high torque motor) ??
I haven’t had one break yet (using the G29) but if you are concerned about the strength you could print it using PETG!
Hey i printed all the files but when i assemble all the things it just doesnt click and the shaft goes out by hand very easy
Check that the ball bearing lock into the groove and that the collar is able to move all the way forward to lock them in that position. It could be that the holes are too tight.
Nice models. i printed and it wont fit shaft goes to right side
Not sure what you mean by “goes to right side”. Can you elaborate?
