  • Before we install all the hip and ridge shingles on our demo roof, we have a special tip on how to install the first hip shingle. Some people just place it directly on the roof as it comes, but we have a way of cutting and hooking it under the roof so it blends much more seamlessly. Watch this short video to see how we install the first hip cap on a shingle roof!

that's a cool way to do it. I preferably wouldn't do it that way but to each their own

I think this is either unnecessary, or a straight up mistake. Wouldn't the tuck under your shingles be an invitation for water to run back onto the roofdeck/fascia? I'd never divert water TOWARD the house if I could help it, yaknow?

    That only took 30 mins

Terrible job. Potential for rain and ice and the edge was unclean.

No Ice in here in Los Angeles. How do you finish those types of corners?

Absolutely unnecessary, it actually probably creates more of a chance for it to be caught by the wind and blown off. If you want to do something extra with your first hip for good security, add a few dabs of roof cement to your first hip
