What do you do when the roll starts to run off away or towards the seam?
Thanks!!.........this helped a lot !
My pleasure
Chimneys are brick? nails in brick?
You can mail in roof only, no need to nail to chimney.
affrain barkala
What kind of hammer is he using with those cap nails? I need one!!!
I should probably start selling them lol, I get asked the same question allot. Here is a link a.co/d/08nxQkLJ
Thank you!
My pleasure
Over rated an good hook blade in an X-Acto knife works like a dream
lol
That vent is total crap.
Why?
My roofer said they can use 3 tab shingles to make the ridge, since I will be using 30 year shingles I don’t feel comfortable using 3 tab shingles for my ridge, he mentioned that the ridge cap shingles are expensive and that it takes up a lot of bundles, that’s the reason he suggested using the 3 tab shingles for ridge, is this true?
They are more expensive then 3tab, but I still recommend using them, you’ll probably spend a few hundred dollars but will have a roof that looks better and lasts longer
I 100% agree with the results but disagree with the Superiority of the OSB to be used for roof deck! Here in the Philippines, the primary feature that we need is the Pull-Out rating because we have many Strong Typhoons that can fly our roofs. Second, we can just buy a very cheap "WATERPROOF" Underlayment in between a standing seam roof and a 3/4 Marine plywood.
Exellent video thank you
Very welcome
That bit at the end gives me all the confidence i need to walk on tiles. But mostly i love how the next suggested video to watch is 'how to repair a broken roof tile' hahaha.
Haha that’s plan b
Also, when you put the caulking in the middle of the water channel it makes a damn and causes water to go under the tile the wire is a great idea. That’s how I do it.
You are supposed to use the valley metal that has a hem on it to keep the water in the valley and also you’re nailing through the valley metal so what good does that do all you’re doing to create a hole in your valley metal
Your results are exactly as I would have expected. And that’s why my home is OSB. I mainly used it re the water retention and rot potential. It was also nice to save about $300 in cost.
use shoes with soft soles
Great video. What type of nails or what size nail is used for the ridge cap? Thanks.
This is the way to do comp valleys because they look very professional. When installing the full shingle up the valley set those to a semi dry chalk line. Blue works best. People can see up the valleys from the ground so you dont want wavy valleys.
I like the woven valleys best. Then cut valley..
Exactly the video I was looking for. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
When does the full sheet start over & do you just repeat the pattern?
Correct just go until the last piece then start again
@@RoofRepairSpecialist no I mean how many rows do you step pattern before you do the whole sheet again I've seen other people do five rows Courses & on the sixth row (course) they start over again but in your video you only have 4 rows (courses), So do you start over on the 5 row? The Owens Corning instructions for this type of roof said go 6 courses then on 7th is when you repeat.
Your videos have helped me so much! Thanks a ton! Fortunately I had a hipped roof but i was curious what doing a valley would look like. Seems like open valley is more diy friendly. Cut valley seemed a little less diy friendly but very doable. Woven seems like it would be easy to make it look messy for someone just learning this.
Great to hear! Best of luck with your project
Spraying water into the inside of the roof😂
All excellent videos sir
Glad you like them!
Similar idea used for long(er)-term drywall mud storage--level the surface to reduce peaks and valleys/surface area. But you want to clean off the sides of the bucket with a knife, then brush and water. And make sure it stays cool. It'll last months in a cool environment. For short-term storage (1-5 days or so), leave 1/2" of water on top of the mud. Then, dump it off when you open it.
Makes sense, use water for water based, and asphalt oil for asphalt based.
Dude, your presentation style is way too similar to Lenny Pepperbottom of Neature Walk. lol
Haha, kind of look like him too 😩
The pen is mightier than the sword. From script to spoken, your words will have prevented many families having the police knock on their doors. That is truly mighty. 👍🏴
Great video, very helpful. I would though, really love to know how to turn an outside corner properly with that type of low rise flashing. Are there any videos or any resources you could point me to? I've been searching all day and can only find stuff about cutting and bending regular drip edge around outside corners.
Same as regular drip edge, just need to seal that joint
Lmao that was great. Thank you
You bet
In zones that get freezing weather like he says leave a slight gap, you are supposed to leave a minimum ¼ inch gap from the fascia and drip edge. This prevents surface tension ice from traveling under to the decking.
Yes, they're are bad actors in the biz, but to categorically say "say no to door knockers" is stupid. Door knocking is my mine source of new clients. I've never scammed anybody. All my customers were happy they chose me as their roofer. 🤷♂️
You got the 9"&18" right but your 18" Nail pattern is wrong. Instead of every 18" putting 2 nails even with each other your supposed to stager them so you gave a nail every 9" alternating sides.
I thought the nails needed to be centered over the rafters.
If you don’t have fascia board that’s something you need to take into consideration
well back in the day, when mostly 3 tabs were used, I'm put metal in the valley and weave the valley. that it the best, other then that metal in the valley and closed is awesome too. Great Video btw!
Thanks for sharing!
"For years to come"...I think 2 or 3 years would count as " for years to come". How come the Mexicans never talk? :) The ones with the scarred up knuckles!

I live in North Wales in the UK. I plan to Felt the flat roof on a garden room. I hope there are suppliers that can provide this type of felt product.
I don't think Andre been on a roof
I’m actually scared of heights
Why not just use primer when making the artificial lap? Instead of embedding the granuals? They would embed anyway
We do that as well, honestly I think both work just as good, but manufactures technical rep recommends burning off granules
@@RoofRepairSpecialist Thank you. I enjoy your videos. I appreciate that you take the time to construct a sample roof to show everyone how you do it. Saludos!!✌🏾
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This was an incredibly informative video, thank you. Not sure if you are still responding to questions, but here's mine. For the saddle flashing, you cut it flush with the skylight box, leaving a small lip that extends past each end. Why do you cut out the excess piece instead of wrapping it around the skylight box? And if the purpose of the lip is to direct water away from the corner, why not have an angled lip instead of a uniform lip of what appears to be about 1 inch? Thank you.
Wrapping it would work, I like the idea, definitely doesn’t hurt. If I understand the second part correctly I think leaving it straight is better as you’re not trying to direct the water necessarily, you’re trying to keep the water away from the corner.
I'm not a fan of butting shingles end-to-end with no overlap and installing them perpendicular to the valley just to get a straight line. Sometimes called a California valley, and also used within other valley installation methods. Here in the north, water can get under the shingle, freeze, expand, and move or crack that shingle and the adjacent shingle. The object should always be to divert all water off the slope as quickly as possible, and not retain water or rely on the ice & water shield or the flashing.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The osb swelled up in the water. It also turns to mush and eventually delaminates.
I agree, it just doesn’t delaminate the entire sheet
I really think you should way more subscribers I appreciate you teaching and informing people of proper installation
I appreciate that!
I watched this repeatedly to make sure I got it right. I had a leaking skylight that some goober built and had to remove the shingles and curbs they had put in to redo it properly. I think we're good now. Subscribed.
Love to hear that. Thanks for the subscribe
