When my Siamese kitten was stolen from my front porch, we assumed he had wandered off. We did all the usual things without results, but a few weeks later, while driving a couple of blocks from home, I saw my cat. I stopped, and walked around the car to see what was going on. MY cat saw me, ran across the lawn and jumped into my arms. We went home. A few hours later, a woman showed up at my door, bawling, said she had taken the cat from my porch because her kid thought it was pretty. She was baby-bawling - snot and tears flowing into her mouth. I kept my cat.

That happened to us too. It was 3 YEARS before we saw our cat again. It was in a fenced yard playing with two little girls. We decided to not do/say anything. The cat looked happy and well cared fo and had little kids loving on it.

The fact that Daniel responds to the teacher and not his mother speaks volumes. No one can demand love they don't deserve. Not even from their own child. And trying to force it will only drive you further apart. Honestly, I actually hope seeing someone else take two days to succeed at something she failed at for three years completely breaks her.

I'm Chinese and can attest to how strict a lot of asian parents can be and how much they demand of their children. My mum always told me not to compare myself with others and yet would turn around and compare me to others all the time. When I was 5, she complained that my best friend was already washing her hair by herself, but my mum still had to help me with my hair. I don't remember much of my younger days, but when I was still in primary school, she made my sister and I memorise books and write them out word for word (we had to memorise one page at a time). If we got one single word wrong, we had to start over again. We weren't allowed to do anything else until we finished. She also made us memorise the times tables and not allowing us to go to bed until we did. One time my sister got fed up and fell asleep on the sofa. When my mum came down to check on us, she saw my sister sleeping and kicked her awake.
Now that I have a child of my own, she constantly calls me a lazy parent because I didn't have my son potty trained by the time he was 1 year old and because he had developmental delays, including walking and speaking. I'm determined not to be the same kind of parent she was to me.

    • @j.d.l._666
      @j.d.l._666 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I'm really sorry that you had to endure that and I love to hear, that you don't push your kid(s) as your parents did with you. Your parents probably never heard about burn out and stress related depression (which is not only happening to adults, but kids can suffer under it too!).
Not beeing potty trained by the age of 1 is not beeing delayed! Where I come from (most) parents are way more layed back. They support their babys/ kids with a rather natural development, so some babys may be potty trained by the age of 1 and others by the age of 2,5 or sth.
I always feel bad for those poor kids who have to be the perfekt little baby clones of their parents and always have to witness, how they are compared to others by their own parents. That's just plain cruel, in my opinion! I feel that this completly destroys a kids selfesteem!
I know that I COULD NOT wash my hair by myself when I was 5! So don't feel bad! 😉
Your kids are definetly WAY BETTER off with you as a parent! Because pushing your child to always be the best as a condition for love is just wrong. The way you handle it sounds more loving and caring!

Back when I was engaged to my ex over a decade ago, she demanded a cat..not from the pound, but bought for a ridiculous amount of cash from a pet shop as a kitten. I did it against my better judgement, just to make her happy. A week later, a note appears on my door. Someone demanding I give them "their" cat back..this kitten was freshly weaned and was bought an hour away from my neighborhood. There were several of these notes left over a month, claiming it was a "voodoo cat" and they would curse the house while getting their cat back. It was ridiculous, especially as none of these notes ever left any contact information, but threatened to break into my house to get
"Their" cat back. Sadly, the fiance became the ex, she left the cat, and moved out of state. Every now and then, she will demand her cat back...he doesnt travel well, and ive been taking care of him since day one. In fact, hes still sleeping next to me..hes old now, so no one wants him, so I deal with him.

Let's see the *SIN* counter, so far as I can tell, if she knew it wasn't her cat (having seen and thrown away the collar) and did it anyway: *(1:)* Theft. *(2:)* Covetousness. *(3:)* By breaking the first two (hey, even by breaking _ONE_ of them,) she refuses to let The Abrahamic God to be her god; that is breaking the 1st of the 10 commandments. *(4:)* Giving a false impression of God is in violation of his character and reputation, and it's a violation of the 3rd of the 10 Commandments, "do not take my name in vain." *(5:)* This one's a little bit of a stretch, but it seems to be violating the 2nd commandment, too. She didn't make a statue and worship it like Ancient Egypt, but by stealing and coveting and refusing to let God be her god AND misrepresenting him, it's as though she's worshiping an image of something else entirely.
Oh, and Jesus said "Avoid ALL KINDS OF GREED," so she's breaking that, too.
Besides... "Hell" is "Outer Darkness." Like being shut out of a gloriously happy city that can't be broken into, to ever be devoured by the rapists and drunk murderers and whatnot, because of a refusal to join the city.
All sins against people will be forgiven... But the sin of going against the spirit of God (if I've understood Jesus' word right) will not be forgiven; neither now, or in the future.
Though mind, a truly repentant* person who asks for forgiveness, the same will be forgiven. But don't refuse the spirit...
      * That is, changing direction, turning yourself around in life, and it can be explained in other ways

Siamese cats are a high ticket item for thieves, so please if you haven't done it already get that fluff ball chipped. At my animal clinic the first thing we do with new clients is to scan for a chip. There have been a few times that the name did not match up with the person bringing in their pet. We always call the person whos name is registered with the chip to ask if they are missing a pet. A couple of times the person on the phone said, "You found my cat/dog? I'll be there real soon don't let anyone walk off with them!". We would then call our local P.D. for a civil stand by because it might get messy. I cannot stress this enough please get your fur babies chipped!

My mom is the neighborhood crazy cat lady. She has a feral colony in her back yard and takes them to a rescue to get fixed. The tame ones get adopted and wild ones get returned to the colony. One day she caught an intact Siamese and gave him to the rescue. He was very friendly and placed in quarantine for adoption. A few days later there were signs in the neighborhood for the missing cat. Mom called the rescue and gave them the owner's number. Turns out the owner was intending to breed the cat but didn't think anything of letting him wander the neighborhood with a feral cat colony that had an outbreak of feline leukemia the year before this happened.

When my dad died (he collected a lot of antiques-car, bar set, China cabinet, huge Victorian bird cage, etc) guy was MASSIVELY trying to scam me cause he wanted my dads stuff. And we needed gas money so my mom and step-dad (were from California, my dad lived in missouri) so they could get back. For example a huge deer head he would only offer like 15 bucks, or a set of crystalistic handles...I said 10 bucks for the set (thats cheap) jerk only offers 2 bucks TWO. Ended up only selling a couple small things and a vintage wood burning stove. But he only got like three things. I used to be in the Electronics Asset Recovery business. He would get truckloads of used industrial electronics to process. The owner of a local surplus store had been scamming my boss for years. He pulled enough stuff off our shelves to fill a long wheelbase van and a 20 foot trailer, then he only offered $75. I told him that it was $1500, or no deal. He left. My boss was pissed, until I explained what he was doing. He had picked up a power contactor and told my boss, "I'll give you 25 cents, each. It was worth over $300 new, and had come out of an almost new mainframe computer. We had 24 of them. He told my boss, "I can't get $5.00 for these." I laughed annd said, "That's why you price them at $75, in your store." I also told my boss that he already had customers looking for these items, and he was out of most of them.
To make a long story short, he was back two days later with the $1500, then he bought another $500 of our inventory, because he had learned that we were no open to the public. and he wanted to corner the market on some parts.

About 25 years ago my husband and I with our daughter lived in a house that we were renting. The landlord decided to put new carpet in which was wonderful and we had to move all of our furniture out on to our yard in order for them to carpet the whole house. It just so happened that the only time that these Carpeters could do the job was on a Saturday and a Sunday. Let me tell you what, when people drove by our corner lot and saw all this furniture and my house plants and everything else out on the yard they all wanted to stop and see how much everything was. On top of this we had an 18-ft by 8 ft Jon boat parked out in the front yard. When I tried to explain to people that this was not a yard sale that we were having carpet put in I can't believe how many of them got upset because we were doing it on a Saturday, which any idiot should know is yard sale day! And I had two old boys that literally had a Karen fit because the boat wasn't for sale. For God's sake nothing was for sale, quit asking me how much my plants are! I even had a sign out in the yard telling people it wasn't a yard sale and they were still stopping because it was Saturday by God. Crazy.

Parents and adults in general, demanding performance out of children out of the spot, and the kid clams up. It's very common. And the more forceful someone is, the harder it is for the child to actual say anything. This happened to me sometimes where I would be asked to do something, or a conversation was turned to something and I would clam up. Like being asked on the spot a random question, which btw it's been proven that if you do this, often times the person being asked a question will suddenly forget any right answer. Look at "name a woman" meme. This was used when i was trying to argue or debate things, and undermine my entire effort in arguing because I couldn't answer the random question, therefore the person asking said question was in the right. So often times I just clammed up. It's taken years to deprogram my brain to not clam up when I'm stressed, and it still happens sometimes. Like one time when I was a kid, I was talking about Digimon, and then the conversation was made about Jesus (because it was a very religious neighbor we were having pizza with) and I just stopped talking immediately, because she had phrased it to make me feel shame about talking about something I liked. She didn't like what I was talking about, and instead of asking me to talk about something else, she just made me stop talking all together because her religion was more important than my interests. This behavior puts unnecessary stress on children.

On the fourth story. This mother is not a “Karen.” She’s the perfect example of a”Tiger Mom.” I taught in China for seven years. One thing I learned was that Chinese parents, especially Tiger Moms, expect and demand absolute perfection from their children from day one. Anything less is considered total failure.
Also, the concept of “Face” and not losing it in front of others also important to Chinese adults. To lose Face in front of your peers is bad enough, but to lose it in front of those you consider beneath you is total humiliation, which is usually covered up by showing anger at “the cause,” (I.e. Daniel).
I hope his father gets sick enough at her actions to finally step up, tell the mom to shut up and quit acting like she’s still in China

Not to excuse her behavior, but if the story is based in China, then I can understand her actions. It's incredibly difficult to secure a job in China right now, let alone have a child enter a good school that would even give the inkling of a chance to get a job in the first place. That's why parents sink so much time and money into their child's education. They have no childhood to ensure that they can do well in life in the future. This is definitely more nuanced than what a TH-cam comment can relay, but suffice to say, there is incredible amount of stress and pressure placed on both parent and child at a very early age.

@@catherineholt1149 while we, as meer mortals, are given the right to point out commandments and quotes that might contradict someone's statement, and might hypothetically speculate on additional sins, we cannot take the hubris (to borrow your term) in assuming the guilt of someone's intentions.
Yes, she might have coveted the neighbour's cat and commited the sins of pride and greed, and a slew of others, but going on the info we know, OP said the kid found the cat and wanted it, (not clear if she knew it was claimed) while the mother (knowing it was) stole it to give to her daughter (meaning she did not covet it directly) which is why I chose not to mention these points. (I am trying to be a good christian).
That said, if we would like to speculate, one might point out that Jesus has stated "let he who takes your eyes away from God have a millstone tied to their neck and thrown out to sea" which might connect with the mother falsifying the police report, though I would have to study my theology a little more for that one. ;)

    • @101Volts
      @101Volts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

She broke more than "Thou shalt not steal," if she knew the cat wasn't theirs to keep and threw away the collar. If so, let's see the sin counter, supposing that _is_ what happened, just hypothetically. In such a case, it would be this:
1: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." - Broken because she stole, and denied The Abrahamic God to be her god.
2: "Thou shalt not make any graven images." - This one's a bit of a stretch, but it's arguable that she worshiped a false image in her own heart, by stealing.
3: "Thou shalt not take the name of God in vain." - Names meant a lot more in Ancient Israel than you might realize. In short, since she lied about what God would do _over a cat, she's giving him a bad reputation that is not what he does, and which is not in his name. Because of that, she's breaking Commandment 3.
I forgot which of the commandments is "Thou shalt not steal," but it's already mentioned.
She also broke "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor," because of putting false words in God's mouth just to get her own pathetic little way that costs far more than it's ever worth.
Finally, she broke "Thou shalt not covet anything that is your neighbor's." In other words, she craved the idea of letting her child keep the cat that was not their own.
That's it for the Ten Commandments. How many did she break over this? *6 out of 10!* Additionally, her demeanor was greedy, so she broke Jesus' command "Avoid all kinds of greed."
As an addendum, I've heard it argued that "The 10 Commandments" are not like military-style commandments; they're more about "10 ways that will treat you exceptionally well, *IF KEPT."* How many people get in trouble for stealing something they longed after that was not for sale? However many, it's off the charts. How many get in trouble specifically for NOT longing for something that isn't theirs? I have yet to see one, but I'm sure manipulative fools will try to turn the tables around. *"Try"* being the key word.

The story about the wedding dress reminded me of an item I saw in Reader’s Digest many years ago. A young lady whos’ parents had recently gone through a bitter divorce, was getting married. Her father was bringing his younger girlfriend because she insisted on attending the wedding. The mother offered to stay home rather than chance causing her daughter’s special day to be ruined by any possible confrontation by her ex and his girlfriend. The daughter told her that she didn’t want to get married without her being there. So, her mother spent several weeks looking for the perfect dress to wear to her daughter’s wedding; when she found it, she had it altered for a perfect fit. She later found out that her ex-husband’s girl fried had bought the exact dress. The daughter asked the girl friend if she could pick another dress because her mother had already had her dress altered and couldn’t return it. The girl friend refused to cooperate. The mother told her daughter not to worry. The mother then spent more time looking for another dress. Although not as good as the 1st dress, she found one she liked. She called her daughter and told her that she’d found a dress for the wedding. The daughter felt bad that because of her father and his unreasonable girlfriend, she was out a lot of money for a dress she couldn’t wear. The mother told her daughter not to worry because she did have a place to wear it. When the daughter asked where, the mother replied, “The rehearsal dinner.”

While I can't speak to cultural specifics, it's important to recognize that part of the problem is due to the scarcity of education relative to the size of the population. UNESCO defines tertiary education as anything after the high-school level, whether it's university, college, trade school, vocational training, special certifications, etc. By that standard, the US is currently fifth in the world at 46.36%. China isn't the the top 40.
With that in mind the extreme parenting makes a bit more sense. Kids NEED to excel at amazing levels in order to compete for the very small number of available positions in high-level education. While I'm not saying the wife's methods are the best way to get Daniel to excel, her motivations are understandable. It's important not to try to judge this family by Western standards.

The comment of the person who stole a cat “and got away with it” - that’s not how I would have worded that - it’s a very different situation. The cat in the OP’s story was loved and well-cared for (even though I don’t think outdoor cats should be a thing.) The cat “stolen” by the person in the comments to the original story was neglected horribly, even abused. And that person didn’t even steal it, she informed them she was taking the cat, and they were fine with it, because they didn’t care.

That cat story makes me regret not doing that once. My downstairs neighbor at my first appartment was a very dirty crazy cat lady kind of old woman. She kept windows and blinders shut throughout the summer heat, and whenever she opened a crack in the window, all cats just threw themselves there for fresh air, and I could smell the stench from yards away. One time during fall, I come to leave, only to see one of her cats, the cutest little fur ball, looked like a 4 month old kitten, just shivering on her porch. At first I didn't realize ir was her cat, and I started knocking on various doors to see if it was theirs, and kept cat lady for last. In hindsight, I should have just kept the poor critter.
The lady ended up being evicted from her appartment, and on the day she left, her appartment was empty, but the door was unlocked. My GF and I were curious to see in what state she left the appartment. Just opening the door my GF gagged because of the stench. It was SO dirty. There were spots on the ground just full of cat hair stuck to the ground, the bathtub and bathroom sink were blackened with crass, it was something. Cats probably pissing and pooing anywhere they could, it was disgusting. I thought back on that little furball and even years later I still regret not sneaking it into my appartment.

Honestly, the person who "stole" the mother cat didn't steal her. They went and told the former owner they were taking the cat and the former owner said fine. That was an exchange of ownership, not a theft because the original owner clearly didn't give a shit about the cat and consented to the cat being taken.

My husband and FIL owned a shop and had a shop cat named Charlie. Charlie was a tough indoor/outdoor car who loved sleeping in the sunny storefront window as much as he loved terrorizing raccoons. When he was about 17 yo he started having some sort of problem with his lips and or gums. While we were still trying to get a diagnosis and eliminating foods and even feeding bowls we decided to keep him inside more often. Well, a small nondenominational church opened up nearby and signs were being left on the shop door about us being cruel to Charlie. Now we went over to talk to them but they would hear none of it. A week later, when Charlie was let out dying the day, he never came back. The the church people had the nerve to leave a note saying they took him for his safety. While we were upset, especially my hubby and FIL as they had raised Charlie, we hoped he was given live, attention and proper Healthcare in his last years. 😢

The cat story reminded me of my favorite cat, who was brought in by my other cat...starving. He had a collar on so I shooed him out. MY cat looked at me like: "How could you!" and was mad at me for days. Next time the cat came back, much skinnier, I went around to the neighbors and asked if he belonged to any of them. They all said no. So, cat became MY cat. I took off his old flea collar and put a new one on. Around 6 months after he became mine, I was walking in the parking area with that cat following me. Suddenly he crouched down and GROWLED menancingly. I looked up and saw a sleazy looking guy in an old chenille bathrobe and leather houseslippers walking past my car. He looked at the cat, said "Oh, hello Rusty!" The cat growled even more. I said: "Was that your cat?" He said yes and proceeded to tell me how he had rescued him from a dumpster when he was only as big as his palm...then cut off his balls by stuffing his head into a boot and slicing away, when he got older. I, horrified, said "He's MY cat now...and if you come anywhere near him, I'll do the same to YOU!" He walked away peacefully, saying he was glad my cat found a good home. I growled at him just like the cat did. That cat lived to be around 20 years old and was such a lovely cat...a sentient being who certainly deserved a better life than he had with that sleazy idiot. He suffered for years with the aftermath of a broken shoulder and hip, which the guy had done nothing to fix. I tried and the vet said it was so old of an injury that it was better to leave it as it was. I gave him the best life I could and he forever holds a special place in my heart.

I worked for a catering company, as a baker, and a co-worker told me about a wedding reception she had once helped set up. It was before the ceremony, and the bride and her MIL to be were there. The MIL was acting hateful to the bride, who was just doing her best to back off and not get in a fight. Finally the MIL got so mad she walked over to the cake and slugged it, damaging it badly. They had to hold the baker away from the MIL and when her husband was summoned the first words from him were "What did she do now?" The awful woman was allowed at the ceremoney, but not the reception.

Something similar happened near my place with the "teaching child" story. There is a mother who demands so much from her daughter, teaching the kid all the stuff she can, and demanding more and more as the child learn more thing. The child is just 3yo and a smart kid, a sad thing, maybe because her little mind couldn't handle all the pressure her mother gives her, she become, well "crazy"? (sorry didn't know the word for it). She end up unable to learn new things anymore and just repeating the word and stuff she learned, she become unfocused? Unresponsive? That she can't pay attention and can't communicate with people. Now her mother regrets it but the damage is already done and I don't know if she can heal from it and grow up normally

I was a language teacher, I had a couple of three year olds who were a joy to teach. I encouraged one parent to come to class to re-enforce what was being taught in the weekly hour. Children are very sensitive and they feel demand energy. Obviously this woman was raised in an environment that demanded perfection, and so she continues the tradition of punishing anything that is not perfect. It’s really heart wrenching when you see a child being treated like that.

I facilitated a cat napping once. I was in an apartment building with 4 units. One unit was a family with a couple of older teens who acquired a dog and 2 kittens that they left outdoors a lot. One kitten was really tiny and looked emaciated so I set out some leftover roast chicken which she scarfed down as well as a bowl of water. I had 2 cats of my own so I set out a bowl of kibble. The teen girl made a comment about the kitten and, when I told her she was underfed and I fed her she started yelling at me saying "how dare you feed my cat". I told her if I ever saw her in that condition again I was going to call the humane society. Fast forward a month or so and I was on a business trip and hired a pet sitter. She called me one day and asked about this kitten that was always by her tires when she was ready to leave and I told her the story. She asked if I minded if she took the kitten. My response was "I'm not there, I know nothing" so she grabbed her and put her in the carrier she always kept in her car. It was 3 weeks before the people realized she was missing and figured a coyote got her. She had fleas and ear mites and was pregnant (at 6 months) so got cleaned up, had 2 healthy babies, and all 3 were desexed and adopted to good homes.
