    I love the that most of the GMA audience could not relate to this music at all but still gave a standing ovation to this group out there proclaiming Jesus to the world.

    This was the first time I ever saw Stryper when I was watching the 1986 Dove Awards. I was familiar with them before, but as soon as I saw this, I became an instant fan!

    Stryper broke down so many barriers with their music and message. I have been a fan for over 25 years and I watched that performance the night it aired. I was 13 years old. Stryper is still rockin' and better than ever! Jesus, King, King of kings! Yes he is! I love Stryper!!!!

    Saw them in Greensboro in 1986. Fantastic show. The old folks in church were horrified but all us teenagers couldn’t get enough

    They returned in 2005 with Reborn, which was a whole new sound for them, but their original style is very easily heard in their 2009 release, Murder by Pride, and the new album, No More Hell to Pay, is a return to form, albeit much heavier than before.

  • @kjemradio
    @kjemradio 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They mainly do that for filming. It's really hard to sync television and live music (light is faster than sound LOL), but you can see they are playing the right notes, and Robert is obviously beating the crap out of his drums. I think just about every show from Top Of The Pops in the UK, to American Bandstand in the US all the artist lip synced. Though it should be noted that most singers sing very lightly in these types of performances (and videos).

    No Pat, nobody was talking about the "Rolling Stones" in the 1980's! Not any teenagers anyway. Wow, how embarrassing for him to say that. I don't remember this but its not surprising to see them lip-syncing. That's just the way most shows were done back then but it was fun to see. Thanks for sharing. Stryper rules!!!

    Definitely not a "live" performance.... Where is the other lead guitar that you hear? That said, I'd go see Stryper anytime, anywhere even if they lip-synched the whole night...been a fan since 1987 !

    • @DClark1986
      @DClark1986 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In Michael's book, he mentioned this and was told they weren't playing live but to a recording. He hated it..

    • @Chris05161967
      @Chris05161967 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David Clark I was thinking that myself. Because the audio sounded like it was at the bottom of a well, or an empty oil tank at an oil refinery.

      This was a very common practice for TV in the 80's. Some artists would take the piss out of it during the performance by making it very obvious they're not really performing.

    Yes Michael hated using audio tracks because it cheapened the live experience plus it made the band so d like a garage band.

  • @DanHull817
    @DanHull817 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ya, that was definitely a lip synced performance. I've see Styper perform live enough times to know the difference. They are great live, don't get me wrong, but it's a different "great" sound than their studio sound. And that performance was a their studio track. It was flawless.
