Stryper is so underrated as a metal band just because they sing about Jesus.

As a professional singer, I'm gonna say they were NOT lip syncing on this one. From watching the bass player and lead guitarist, there's like, certain mannerisms you make, when you're actually singing the song and playing your instrument at the same time, that just don't come across in lip syncing performances. Also, the lead singer changes the lead vocal line in a few key places that a singer would do during a live performance that they wouldn't do otherwise. Like, they'd have had to record a live performance for him to lip sync it that way, which would just be bizarre. Also, the distortion wouldn't have been there if they were canned. Just some observations.
Gotta admit, for 'god rock', these guys really found a great crossover niche. They pulled it off as real rockers. Kudos to them!

Well you’re wrong. They may have actually been playing but the recording is the album.

To be fair, "back in the day",on the majority of these kinds of shows, pretty much EVERYONE lip synched to their respective songs. On shows such as "Solid Gold","American Bandstand","Soul Train" and "The Midnight Special",just to name a few. Obviously,Stryper could've pulled this song off live but the show wanted a "clean" sounding performance with no chance for mishaps. It's still cool to see them even if it's not a real live performance.

Randy Jackson of American Idol fame as well as Journey etc... played the bass on this one track on the album.

Children! Children! Lip Sync performances was a norm on these shows from the 70s,80s,90s the ONLY difference is that today the artists lip sync out of necessity live!! That was NOT the case with any of these bands they ALL could play it was just policy of the shows thats all!! The ONLY band defiant enough to no do a lip sync perfornece back in the early 80s was Iron Maiden on the British music variety show Top of the Pops!!!

The best version ever. I also like how in rhythm they were to the actual record playing. Rick Dees was a big star until he called rap music garbage, and he was correct but that was a no no.

Sweet actually included this song on his first solo tour set. It wasn't lip synced and it was pretty darn good. If you watch some of the live videos from Japan where the bass is cranked up you will find Tim is a very good bass player. A lot of bands in the 80's and 90's played with canned tracks to enhance live sound. Is back keys and bass lines. It was nothing new

Holy Shit.....how many times will people talk about lip synching? It was the TV shows making them do it....not the bands. If you've worked in the industry or around it you know this. It's always been done. Who cares.

Sucks that they lip synched. Just saw Warrant's performance on Rick Dee's show, and they played live. It would have sounded more authentic if Stryper did the same.

A lot of groups decide to lip sync if the lead singer's voice isn't up to snuff that particular day. Having heard Michael Sweet sing this song live (for real) before and comepletely blow the roof off the place, I would bet that it was something along those lines. Probably had a cold the week leading up to the event or something.

I cant believe my eyes after watching that milli vanilli lip sync, OMG!!!! I've seen STRYPER 3 times in the past 20 years and the live concerts they were not lip sincing at all. They can play these songs note for note.
I will never understand why the bands had to pretend when they didnt have to.Well I still love this band and what they stand for I just dont want to see anymore milli vanilli crap!! 777 JESUS CHRIST ROCKS
