BTS did it again! Guys, I go through a lot of thoughts throughout the video as I'm tying to understand what is going on, so hopefully as the video goes on it will all make just a little bit of sense haha, or not, I'm bamboozled!
PS - Steam was indeed coming out of my ears once I took the headphones on 🤯😜

BS&T is found on the BTS album Wings. BTS discography is made up of Eras and concept albums. BS&T by Wings, is based on "Demian" by Hermann Hesse, if you have read the book you will find the relationship. "Fake love" is also linked to that concept. For example, the album "Map of the Soul" is based on Karl Young's soul study and each song (such as "Persona" "Ego" "Shadow") addresses a concept from this study. BTS is't a simple "pop" boy band, moreover they produce and compose their own music.

FYI the orchestral music in the intro is the opening to Bach’s B Minor Mass which is widely regarded as one of the supreme achievements of classical music. m.th-cam.com/video/3FLbiDrn8IE/w-d-xo.html

This is ultimately about temptation and the acceptance that we are all both good and evil. The video is based on the novel, Demian, and is also heavily influenced by the Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung. The painting in the opening scene is “The fall of the rebel angels”. There are other paintings throughout the video, but “The fall of Icarus” is the other really important one. In Demian, there is a character named Pistorious that plays the organ. That explains Suga playing the organ. The “angel” that Jin kisses is actually the god, Abraxas. Jungkook “flying” or being suspended in the air is likely a representation of Icarus. Icarus flew too close to the sun and his wings were burned off. There is also a quote above the mirror by Nietzsche. It says “One must still have chaos within oneself to give birth to a dancing star”. These are the things I have learned so far. Hope this helps!

BTS has a storyline through their music videos, it's called the Bangtan Universe. It started in I Need U. Each of their albuns talk about the struggles of todays youth, from school, growing up, mental health, social injustices, until the journey to find self love and who we really are inside.

This was one of the best blood sweat and tears reactions i've ever seen! The MV is quite confusing and every time you review it you discover something new or something more about the concept. It's quite complex but you still managed to understand several parts of the MV. I hope later you can dive deeper into BU because, for those who like theories, BTS is the best haha (Sorry for my english)

The written part was in german and said:" Man muss noch Chaos in sich haben um einen tanzenden Stern gebären zu können." and literally translated it means:" You need to have chaos in you to be able to birth a dancing star." if that makes sense in english.

OMG, your reactions in the RM's part which he read an english quote of Damian's book, Suga playing the organ and Taehyung losing the wings are just priceless, I love it the most, but I'm impressed with your interpretation in the very first view, much better than mine

  • @aroacecreature

Your expressions throughout the reaction OMG! 😂
I'm sure a lot of people will comment it but in a surface level BS&T talks about temptation. In the level 2 it's related to the book Demian by Hermann Hesse (if you read it you'll understand a lot of references, it's a nice book actually), it has references to Icarus in the video as well and other references. In the "WTF this is deep" level it has connections with the Bangtan Universe (lot of stuff if you want a big dive).

I've seen a lot of reactions to this song and MV and yours is one of the best! I'm amazed at how much insight you had even within just the first 30 seconds. You had wonderful observations and opinions. Art is subjective, so don't worry about anyone saying one opinion is more right than another. Yes, it helps to know context for some of the imagery, but the MV was also meant to resonate for ALL viewers, not just researchers. The themes of temptation are loud and clear here, something we can all relate to, but you're so right that BTS face unique temptations as artists and celebrities, especially ones who started so young and were still finding themselves all while in the spotlight. And they DEFINITELY have pushed themselves HARD to be the best artists, and there's a lot of good and bad that's gone along with that.

Man I love this MV so much, it's simply one of the best ones BTS has ever made. I believe you managed to grasp the simple concept of the video which is temptation. They're basically acknowledging the badness and wickedness of whatever is tempting them, and embracing it entirely, even asking for more.
I actually also found it really cool how you linked everything to fame and the pursuit of perfection, it really makes sense.

  • @jg5233

Thank you for this reaction. At the moment I suffer from aftereffects of Corona and listening to BTS gives me a lot of strength. Demian is about an old man reflecting his youth and questioning his actions. Sinclair is tormented by a bully in class until Demian shows up and helps him. Sinclair then wants to become a „good“ child. But growing up he meets all kind of temptations and learns about old gods (Abraxas) from an organist he meets at a church. Abraxas is a god that has both- divine and evil features. That fascinates Sinclair. Demian and Sinclair also discuss a lot about Kain and Abel. Sinclair also searches for Love in his life. One day he sees a beautiful girl in a park. He makes a picture of her and realizes that it looks also like Demian. Later he has to fight in war. Wounded he meets Demian again in the Lazarett at night. At the end of their meeting Demian kisses Sinclair on the lips and tells him that if he wants to find him he just has to look within himself. Okay that was what I remember from the book. Sorry for the mistakes in language - I‘m German. The covering of the eyes I think comes from the three wise monkeys „see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil“. I’m not absolutely sure here. But it fits in the idea to fight evil - or to pretend to not see the bad thins until you finally have to accept that it’s part of you. You can see a lot of symbols (on for example is in the end when Hal’s of Jin’s face is a bit cracked) he lost his innocence. You can see how childish they act when they enter the museum. Then we see the journey of loosing this innocence. Also the BU is all about growing up, facing difficulties and loosing innocence, accepting bad components in life, accept who we are. Okay, that’s it. 😉 sorry for any mistakes. It’s a lot of interpretation here 🤗

BTS is a speaker for all of our struggles. They first started with talking about the school system in Korea, the struggles in youth & school life, self love, mental health and everything that we all go through.
In Blood, Sweat & Tears, you were right. It talks about the good and evil. The painting in the is a biblical painting of the battle of good and evil. As the myth goes, Lucifer was casted out from heaven as he dedicated to evilness and became the king of hell. In here, V (the guy who gives that smile and had the broken wings, represent the evil; Lucifer)Jin, the guy who hesitates if he should be tempted by the evil, in the end get's tempted by the evil. From the start, Jin was hesitating as he was more into the good side.
Always, in these MV, Jin acts as the lead of the storyline. He's the main role. He sometimes sacrifices to help his team mates.
This also shows how they, with their own struggles, work hard to get the best content and music out to their fans. It also speaks of how in society, there is both good and evil, but we shouldn't be tempted by the evil and have our positive and good side most. Its also a self awareness of not to be tempted by the evil.
So, you were right about the good and evil theory. You seem to grasp the theory somehow. That's amazing. For some, it takes a while to understand BTS videos if you don't go in order.
This music video is a biblical reference as RM quotes a part in the middle that is Biblical.
I am a huge fan of Myths and especially about angels 🤭 So, I kinda know the stories after doing many research studies.

The way I could see your shock at each scene and your jaw dropping was everything. This video can be analyzed for so long, the art, the positions of the members being paired up a you g member with a mentor, the dancing, the lyrics, use of colors. It’s my favorite visual and acoustic treat.

Absinthe (green drop in MV), flavoured distilled liquor, green in colour, turning to cloudy opalescent white when mixed with water. Since absinthe is usually green and also because of its psychoactive properties (related to the thujone it contains), it is commonly referred to as the Green Fairy. bohemian drink, the Green Fairy, in the art world and served artists as a source of inspiration. The intoxication caused by the absinthe was equated with noble madness, which opened up new horizons for the artist.
However, there is no evidence that absinthe is more dangerous or more psychoactive than other alcohols.

Blood Sweat and Tears video and song were built and written based on Demian, a novel by Hermann Hesse which won a Nobel prize in literature back in 1946. I read this book (because of this Mv) and I'll try my best to interpret and summarise the story here.
The story follows a young boy named Sinclair who had a friend named Demian. Demian acted as Sinclair's mentor during his childhood and transition to adulthood. Sinclair as a young adult experienced series of existential crisis, believing he lived in between the world of light (the world of illusion, full of goodness) and "the dark world" (the real world which was full of lust, temptation, anger and evil world).
Demian, and later on Sinclair's another mentor Pistorius, believed that in order to become a full person a human needs to embrace both of their light and dark sides. This will then lead Sinclair to find out about Abraxas, the god of light and darkness.
There are sooo many imageries and jaw-dropping details on the MV that represent details in the book. But the point is this song is about the loss of innocence and temptation, about being a human and embracing both of your good and dark sides.
Jin represents Sinclair in this scenario. The scene where Jin kissed the statue (which I believe the representation of Abraxas, who is also V) means he seals the deal with the devil himself in order to fully embrace himself as a person who isn't perfect, full of flaws. The white and black doors represent the world of light and the real world. Suga playing piano represents Pistorius who was an organ player in the story. The phrase that RM read in English here was also taken from the book, page 26 (on the version that I read). It says "He too was a tempter, he too was a link to the second, the evil world with which I no longer have anything to do."
"He" here refers to Demian, that Sinclair once thought as a bad influence for him, maybe it's because Sinclair tried to deny his dark sides.
The book is heavily influenced by a Swiss philosopher and psychiatrist Carl Jung. One of his pupils was Hermann Hesse's doctor back then. This MV and song are also influenced by a german philosopher Nietzsche. There's a quote by him on the wall above the painting that Jin is staring at. It is in German but it means "You must have chaos within you in order to give a birth to a dancing star". Again, the same theme occurs here, about embracing both of your light and dark sides. Only by accepting your flaws and mistakes you can reach your true potentials.
Hesse learned a lot about Jung's psychoanalysis and experienced it himself so that was why Demian was heavily influenced by it. What makes it even more interesting, BTS album MOTS 7 is also based on Carl Jung's theory (hence the songs Persona, Shadow, and Ego were born-- these 3 elements are important in Jung's theory Maps of the Soul).
BTS are deep, my friends. They talk about real things like the pain of growing up and youth's experience. They literally make a lot of ARMY become smarter and read on classic literature like this because of them. lol. Welcome to the fandom!
(Please note once again that this is all my own interpretation after reading the book, take it with a grain of salt.)
Tons of art pieces are represented in that mv:
    - Pieta (Michelangelo)
    - The Fall of the Rebel Angels (Pieter Bruegel)
    - Landscape with the Fall of Icarus (Pieter Bruegel)
    - The Lament for Icarus (Herbert James Draper)
    - Baroque Fresco (Giuaglio Quaglio)
    - Perseus with the head of Medusa (Benvenuto Cellini)
    - Livia Drusilla as Ops, goddess of fertility

For someone who hasn't been swallowed up by the Bangtan Universe, you did an amazing job at interpreting the symbolism in the video. The green substance was absinthe, a/k/a the green fairy, which has a reputation for being a hallucinogen. It can also completely drive you insane, which is why absinthe in its original, "high octane" form is illegal in the US. And at the end, Jin is being seduced in every possible way by the evil and temptation that's laid itself at his feet.

The entire Wings Album and this MV is based on Hermann Hesse's (German writer) "Demian". Which in turn is based on Swiss psychologist Carl Jung's theories and Friedrich Nietzsche (German philosopher) theories about growing up without needing a worldy ruler or a religious one.
There is good in all evil and evil in all good.
The quote over the mirror is Nietzsche (German) and means "you need to still have chaos in you to give birth to a dancing star". It is about creation and creation/birth is painfull.
Funny that it is supposed to free us from the need for God but mentiones the God Abraxes (sp?)
The quote from RM is from Demian. In the novel Sinclair is growing up and rebelling by listening first to fellow student Demian who becomes his first teacher and represents a part of himself.
We have a lot of mysthical imaginary in this mainly Greek and Christian.
Jin is the one who grows up and by kissing the statue embraces both good and evil. Those who want to be born must first break a world/egg. It is singnificant that the others don't leave through either a white or black door.
BTW imagery, props and clothes are taken from the time the novel was written/sets in.
The green drink with the suga cube? Absinth aka. "the Green Fairy". Which is very high in Alcohol and a strong drug (which is why it was illegal for a long time). People forget that at that time drugs like Heroin were perfectly legal and widely used by those that could afford them. (Sherlock Holmes is found more than once in an Opium Hall or something in London; the very real Emperess Elisabeth from Austria-Hungary (Sisi) took drugs and so on).
    Thank you! 💜

„Man muss noch Chaos in sich haben um einen tanzenden Stern gebären zu können“ (German) means
„One still has to have chaos within, in order to being able to give birth to a dancing star“
the text above the mirror/ black picture is written in german, since the entire song is based on a book from a swiss psychologist (and the swiss writing language is german, so thats probably why they chose to not translate it)

The writing on the wall is in German, "One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star." by Nietzche :) It's funny how you mentioned chaos right at that time.

The Phrase you were wondering about is in German. It more or less translates to: you still need chaos in yourself to birth a star.

You’re off on the suicide theory. The poison represents sin and temptation. Jin kissing the statue was him making a deal and succumbing to that temptation. You’re right on the battle of good and evil. This video is heavily influenced by the book ‘Demian’ which deal with the same themes.

Great reaction! I think this video is a masterpiece. Simply perfection. BTS puts so much symbolism into their videos that you are compelled to watch them over and over again just to try to catch them all. I wanted to suggest a video for you - watch Baepsae (Silver Spoon) dance practice video by BTS (there is no official MV for the song, other than live performances, so the dance practice is the one to watch). While the beat is killer and the choreo is even better, it's the meaning behind the lyrics that is genius. You might watch a video that helps explain the song and lyrics prior to watching the dance practice - just so you have a better understanding of the song overall. Really enjoyed your reaction - looking forward to more BTS from you! :)

Oh ! Merci pour cette réaction ! 🇫🇷 Thanks for this reaction! I think many people miss one of the main reference which is about religion and mythology… The first painting is describing the battue between angels who stayed loyal to God and the others stanning Lucifer and falling on Earth.
Next painting behind V is the falling of Icarus, Daedalus’s son, and the one behind Jungkook hanged in the air is the lament on Icarus’ after his death, and we can see feathers around JK.
The statue is Persee hanging Medusa’s head, and don’t miss Esther Thé Pieta, Jesus Christ’s mother, lamenting on his dear body.
Thé scene with the table is reminding the Cene, last Christ’s meal, and we can see Jungkook in a communiant costume, and much more clues to look for and think about… it’s simple huge…
And of course also in link with Demian book… 💜

I've never seen anyone who merely 1.30 min into the B,S&T video mentions suicide and dark thoughts rofl. That was a very interesting take. And then you pointed out the statues and I am once again blown away by how quickly you notice things and interpret them.

Yes this work is drawn from and influenced by Herman Hesse’s novel Demian.
But imho even more importantly it begins the musical exploration of Jungian psychoanalysis in Map of the soul :7. Hesse’s novel is heavily influenced by Carl Jung.
The BTA “rabbit hole” is in reality Plato’s cave lol.

I would really like you to react to Kim Woojin. I already know there could be some haters of him in the comment section but please he has been through so much false accusations it is insane how people by a person leaving a group can escalate that much (a former member of Stray Kids he left in 2019) so he was accused of s€xu4l 4ssault,bullying skz and much more *_* Because they thougth he was kicked out but he left because of personal reasons. If you don't want to react on it on here then you can do it in your private time but he is such a sweetheart that loved the group was a helping hand for Chan as like a second leader it was sad but so hate and false accusations is just insane ;/ remembers me of how many rumours were thrown at Jennie as well.... Until now people belivw these accusations which been proven wrong so sorry if there will be hate in the comment section because of me. I just appreciate him so much and proud how strong he is :)
