I think you'd really love their MVs for Black Swan and Fake Love. Lyrics are super important and in both these songs they help tie everything together that happens within the video. Black Swan is about the boys fear of losing their passion for what they love most, singing/rapping, while Fake Love is about being untrue to who you are thus any love experienced is fake.
We have to remember there is also a behind the scenes video for a great deal of BTS MV. Both for fake love and black swan. But save me might be very interesting. The one take and behind the scenes 😁
Hello! Welcome to the world of BTS :) I have a suggestion since you mentioned that this is your first time watching a BTS video. They have "shooting sketches" that you can watch after or before the official music videos of their songs (however you want to go about it) so you can enjoy their film and artistry, conveying their sincere and genuine message and emotions. Enjoy! :) 💜
If you do check out their MV shooting sketches, make sure to find one with overlaid English subtitles! These have "Eng Sub" in the video title; usually a good channel to find these is Bangtan Subs. (They have a team of multilingual fans who provide translations.)
@@itsjonhiller Welcome to the world of ARMY: BTS!! There is a TH-cam channel called Enjoy BTS More that I recommend you, because it has many MV's and live performances with high-quality English translation/subtitles. Very convenient.
Imagine your first BTS video is Blood Sweat & Tears! simply iconic. To this day one of the best music videos ever created. There's something new to see or learn each time you watch. Especially if you start diving into the book that inspired it (and the whole WINGS album) and the 7 short films and intro music video that dropped the week leading up to it. WINGS era was such a great time!
As a filmmaker you should watch their video for SAVE ME, a one take wonder. But you HAVE to add on the behind the scenes shooting sketch as you can see the cameraman at work!! Turn on captions for this bit! Videographer LUMPENS has directed the most BTS videos.💜
At the time this came out nothing else sounded or looked like this all of Kpop. Also it set records for BTS views wise which was kind of unheard of for a 6+ minute video. It still is a standout video 8 years later.
Hi. That KPop evolution you’re talking about is because of BTS. They came in the scene in 2013 and tore the roof off of what was KPop. They and their team are trail braziers….right into the Western world where they’ve made it possible for other Idol groups to be known there.
I was coming here to make a similar comment. BTS don’t “follow the standard.” They ARE the standard. BTS isn’t even K-pop any longer, because they are performing at levels that are not just head and shoulders above everyone else, but an entire body length or two above - in artistry, in creativity, and in accomplishments. BTS are different. If you are going to dive into BTS, that is an important thing to understand right from the start.
I don't really agree with that. While it's true that BTS has offered a lot of opportunities for k-pop in the west it is such a wide genre and there are groups that are paving their own path when it comes to sound, MVs and music in general. the evolution of the k-pop industry is not because of BTS although they paved the way for breaking boundaries in the industry.
@@hilmamark They dared to be different, didn’t fit the typical Idol ‘mold’, refused to bow down/participate to corruption both in Korea and the U.S.; they pushed the boundaries on singing and talking about social issues and societal expectation - really the only artist to have done that before was Seo Taiji in the 90s; but even then he was not known in the west. BTS were given the freedom in every aspect of their music creation process, which, to this day, while some groups are now writing - or have some participation in music creation, it is still not the standard. While the odd group had some measure of success in the west, they were nowhere near mainstream and often they were not around for long. You should watch Boracity’s video on this very subject. She does a much better job explaining it than I do.
So many paved the way for BTS to have the opportunities they had. BTS wasn't the beginning, but I've enjoyed watching their journey and what they've contributed. Also, random side-note but "trail blazers". Braziers means bras.
Many of the visual references/symbolism in the video are tied to Demian by Hermann Hesse. This theme runs through the videos from their WINGS album. They have a shooting sketch for this MV you might find interesting ([EPISODE] BTS (방탄소년단) '피 땀 눈물' MV Shooting Sketch) and a decent breakdown for this one as well titled "BTS WINGS ERA EXPLAINED (Breaking down Blood Sweat & Tears MV & Short Films)"
Hi I’m a 42yr old ARMY (fan) whom has been with them since before they debuted in 2013. Thank you for sharing your exploration into BTS videos with us as you will see there are details within the details. BTS are known for their mastery of lyrics, messaging (especially subliminal), storytelling, videography, choreography, styling, set designs and so much more. Everything is intentionally placed and connected. You can say all their videos are Davinchi coded and they are all on the level of “Madonna on the rocks, Mona Lisa, and Last Supper” so you definitely want to run every second of it to you may miss something. You will definitely sees artistic nods to such works. Therefore keep your eyes glued and welcome to the rabbit whole of Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS). Please enjoy your beautiful journey.
this video is very complicated to explain. and I'm not good with words so I'll try to do my best to explain 😬 so this video and its whole album was inspired by a book called Demian by Hermann Hesse. it's about the coming of age story. but this story is about accepting the good and evil within oneself as you transition from a child to an adult.. in the beginning, one member, Jin, stared at the painting of "The Fall of the Rebel Angels" which was placed in between 2 doors, black and white, good and evil. Jin represents the book's main character, Sinclair, who grew up in a religious family. He met Demian in his school and Demian is the character that guides Sinclair in his transition. He'll also be Sinclair's "tempter" one of the characters, Demian I think, said "The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to god. That god's name is Abraxas." and Abraxas is represented by the statue as he's the god of both good and evil well, at some point of the story, there was a war. During this war, Demian told Sinclair that when he needs help, he will just look inside him and Demian is within him, then Demian kissed him and vanished. Jin kissing the statue signifies that he accepted the good and evil within himself. then, Jin's face cracked at the end of the video = the bird fights its way out of the egg anyway, the other members were paired by 1 older member and 1 younger member.. Sinclair have mentors, and the older members were the mentors of the younger members. one of Sinclair's mentors, an organ player, promised him that he'll play him a piece, which SUGA, one of the older members played in the interlude of the video. those green liquid and green smoke were the "temptation" and after Jin kissed the statue, all the younger members have been "infected" by the green liquid and smoke. and *chaos* ensue there are also other reference in this video like the dinner which is like a representation of the last supper, there's also the apple, one member, V, with his wings cut off meaning he's a fallen angel.. there's also references of Icarus in other paintings.. Jungkook, the member on the swing floating in the air representing the fall of Icarus who flies too close to the sun. and so much more btw, around 10:30 above the mirror, there's a quote by Nietzsche that says "You still have to have *chaos* inside you in order to be able to give birth to a dancing star" this explanation is such a mess lol but I hope you understand it
Its interesting that you majored in psych 1st (i also majored in psych) . Youre going to love bts. In addition to their amazing mvs, they often include concepts and themes from literature, and ofc, psychology. They incorporated jungian philosophy into a lot of their music, and sing/rap about mental health all the time. They also have a storyline that runs through various albums, notes, a webtoon, short films etc to create a continuous and cohesive story. Its an amazing journey. Their director is a guy named lumpens & hes been with them from the start 💜 Eta 6:36 they rarely use green screens. Check out fake love, its wildin and there is very little effects its practical. Also, the mv makes more sense when you read the lyrics. Its about temptation
@@itsjonhiller awesome you won't be disappointed. They're a 1 in a million groups. Oh for the record the mv about temptation is blood sweat and tears. Fake love is about masking to hide who you are and how you can't really love others until you are true to yourself and live yourself 💜
Hi; thanks for watching! Very happy you enjoyed this. There is an explainer video for this, and given your educational background, you’d probable really enjoy this and the group. I’ll echo what a lot of other commenters have said. Please do turn on captions, as BTS lyrics are important! Fake Love and Black Swan are also ones I think you’d like. Hope to see more BTS from you. Thanks for the reaction.
Dkdktv, XCeleste and BookStories on yt usually do mv intrepretation videos, that go deeper into korean and or literature meanings. RM, BTS leader has an IQ of 148. V and Jimin are also very smart. SUGA IS A genius. Jungkook is great at everything. Jin is visual, vocalist, gamer and currently Company Commander in Korean military. All will return June 2025 from their mandatory service. 4 are elite soldiers. 1 community service. 1 slightly injured, but will be elite soon.
6:04 because BTS is a whole diff. level than the whole KPop combined both in musicality and overall artistry. BTS is the standard that unfortunately hasnt been able to be replicated by the kpop imdustry because BTS is the group who has control over their art
All of bts songs look like movies and they have story's to them I just love how they push the boundaries in all their videos. These guys are my favorite in all kpop artists these guys are my Absolute favorite.
I'm not sure how well you know BTS, but them and their MV production Lumpens are always telling a story. BTS in their music and lyrics they're heavily involved in and Lumpens with their MVs. There is a whole Bangtan Universe throughout, which this can be associated with it. Many groups followed in doing that as well. I don't really associate BTS with Kpop or Idol music as they're not as shallow musically as idol music used to be and still is to a large degree. BTS, made that being meaningful trendy in that type of music. They set the bars for the rest to reach.
Welcome to BTS and Army world. You have to watch more BTS videos, you will be amazed and surprised by BTS. They are absolutely phenomenal and incredible. Thank you for your reaction.
All the BTS’s MV’s are so amazing, you should look them up. Also, since you are filmmaker, I recommend “Love wins all” from IU that released few days ago.
This song is about temptation, obsessive love, wherein you give all to the other, it's also about growth in yourself. Namjoon's narration is a quote from the book Demian by Herman Hesse. Welcome to our world. Rosey 62 from Australia.
It is impossible to overstate the importance of this mv. I can think of no other mv that was as highly anticipated as this one. It really did create a boom in the importance of artistic vision in Kpop videos. BTW, if you really want you mind blown, you should react to the Japanese version of Blood, Sweat and Tears - it is absolutely different in tone - and it also ties into the "Wings" storyline of BTS.
You should really see the seven shortfilms from the Wings era and the Boys Meet Evil MV, they are closely related to the Blood Sweat and Tears MV and are part of the great story that the BTS MV has been telling for several albums.
I’ve seen another director explain (on a txt video - they are Bts’ younger brothers) that cuts are required on mv’s when the dancing is sloppy whereas with txt he wished he didn’t have to do any cuts at all because the dancing was so perfect - of course as is Bts’ dancing. So the shots can be longer because the dancing is incredibly in sync.
To add emphasis to this comment, as BTS members were coming up and practicing hours and hours each day, they monitored their practices by watching video frame by frame, to ensure the choreography was being executed perfectly - as in no matter when they stopped the video, it would be perfection. So when you see comments like these, they aren’t just empty claims - they can be backed up with “receipts.” In this case, TXT are the only group of artists who are true label siblings to BTS, and as such they admire them and strive to a similar level of success…so the work ethics would likely also be similar.
Jimin's "Pi ttam nunmul" has had me in chokehold since forever. He is the guy in blue with the red necktie in 3:33 Apart from being an amazing musician this guy is a great human being too. Love him, love the group. Too good. Check him out, Park Jimin
When I first discovered BTS I felt like I’d been living under a rock. Their artistry is on another level. I’m 53, and grew up on 70s and 80s music and the advent of music videos and the MTV era. BTS has incredible musicality, concepts, choreography, and videography-all top notch. Nothing is ever halfhearted or a coincidence. It is art fully fleshed out. Pure art. I’m not a Kpop fan. However, I am a huge BTS fan-ARMY to my core. It’s been an amazing journey since 2018, and I still discover more to love. It’s really special to watch someone else find them. I get to experience falling for them anew all over again. Thank you for your knowledgeable breakdown and appreciation for their work. 💜
welcome to BTS rabbit hole, I found your comment about camera movement in Kpop interesting since at the moment I don't remember any BTS mv with this type of cuts, their takes are always individual or in groups, the MVs that I think you might find interesting would be Spring Day, Black Swan and Fake Love
BTS is basically the mother of ornate scenes. Blood sweat & tears was the blueprint of all the aesthetic kpop mvs from that year. Suggesting watching Fake love, ON official music video (non dance version), Springday, Blackswan both official music video and the dance performance video by MN comoany. I think you would also love the set of short films they released as concept called WINGS shortfilms. Extremely intricate & artistic
Suga (Rapper and and award winning Producer of the 7 members) is playing the organ for real to represent the Church organist and mentor in the Book Demian.
Thank you for your reaction!! Loved listening to your technical expertise, particularly regarding the colors. They are a really striking and beautiful part of this. I am glad you didn't think this was CGI (a lot of people do). BTS very rarely uses it. Their videos are always top notch, well planned out and true showcases for their amazing talent. BTS writes and composes most of their own songs so lyrics are always fascinating as well as their visuals. Glad you enjoyed it. Have a great evening.
Because of your background, you might find interesting to dive into BTS. Through music, lyrics and mv visuals they explore human psychology on different levels ( even Carl Jung...)😊 They are so different !!
I was about to say that but hey, ARMYs know best! BTS writes their own songs, you see, and they are extremely intelligent with their words and scenes and backgrounds and stuff... Coelho loves them. They involved Jung's work, Demian's work, some Spanish folktale... Amazing point of view, both culturally and psychologically. Deep songs, BTS songs are.
Blood, Sweat and Tears, according to a live interview they did, is really about them telling us who they are. They want to be loved for who they are, not what we want them to be. No Fake love with ARMY. Thanks for doing this reaction. They are deeply loved for their authenticity, kindness and talent. From a 63-yr-old Silver ARMY.
Thank you for appreciating the artisty of this video. I think you might appreciate BTS - Fake Love too. It's not as heavily steeped in the symbology but it's very masterfully shot. I do hope you'll take a look. Thank you.
You would appreciate the behind the scenes they release for each video. You can catch some glimpses of the equipment and obviously set design 💜 If you’re looking for the opposite end of the spectrum of camera movement, Dynamite uses a mostly static still camera
There is an explanation video but in a nutshell it’s all about temptation. Drugs etc. the blindfold represents fight temptation. You notice even the doors and sculptures are one white one black. Good and evil. Most of the scenes represent works of art. Painting and sculptures. The forbidden kiss , he gave in. The member who showed him temptation represents a fallen angel. Thus the missing wings. Hope it helps. What’s impressive about bts vs others the use practical not cgi. Which is amazing!
It's about temptation, too. But in the heart it is not "only" a visulaization of Hermann Hesse's Demian it is a story about becoming an adult under the idea's of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the psychology ideas of Carl Jung. individuation/true self means the need to embrace both worlds the world of good and light but also the one of knowledge and temptation/evil "Blood Sweat & Tears: What Does it All Mean?" by Don't Worry I'm Not Afraid There is evil in all good and good in all evil. Both needs to be embraced for individuation.
Thank you for your reaction. Ive subscribed hoping to see more of your take (from a professional standpoint) on BTS MV's. They are all truly masterpieces in their on right. You will truly be pulled in by the artistry and master storytelling. Having the close captions on helps tons. Because BTS MV's are so full of symbolism (easter eggs) metaphors and the like I suggest first watching the MV with out subtitles then watch it a second time with subs. I like to do this and try to figure out the meaning of the MV then with the subs to see if I was right or totally off. You never know. WELCOME to the world of BTS!
Blood, Sweat and Tears is inspired by Hermann Hesse's coming of age novel, Demian (1919). Speaking about the concept and the meaning of the song at a press conference, RM stated: "The harder a temptation is to resist, the more you think about it and vacillate. That uncertainty is part of the process of growing. Blood Sweat & Tears is a song that shows how one thinks, chooses, and grows." Suga added that "the song conveys an optimistic determination to use our wings to go far, even if we encounter temptations in life." Lyrically, the song talks about the pain of addictive love. The lyrics address the themes of "temptation" and "carnal willingness" to sacrifice everything, through lines like: "Kiss me, I don't care if it hurts/ Hurry up and choke me/ So I can't get hurt any more." [Towards the end of the music video at 4:05, RM reads a quote from the book: "He too was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second [world], the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do." In 'Demian' this is a quote in which Sinclair thinks about Demian who is a friend and mentor to Sinclair.] Blood, Sweat and Tears also have a Japanese version. ( th-cam.com/video/7OX7dIRReSA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iUT_p0QxXmQA2AyR ) MV shooting sketch with Eng sub. ( th-cam.com/video/z4keadU6Qyw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EkLeqAvkWBgO0wzr )
Definitely appreciate the actual breakdown of the video itself, the technicalities, the break down of the camera work, set design. Its so annoying when reactors get bombarded by "fans" going on and on about the artist blah blah.
LIGHT AND DARK! Hermann Hesse's novel Damien is the foundation for this song and video. A protagonist recognizes his dark side for the first time. The painting is "Fall of the Rebels Angels", painted by Frans Floris in 1554.
Being a psychology major you should watch the explanation videos on this song as I believe it will be fascinating for you & explain the “what is going on” feeling you have
You know that BTS paved the way for Kpop to the American market. and BTS was the first group to enter Billboard and Grammy. and they have 1000+ awards achieved by now. plus each member's solo debut. and i hope you react further for bts. Oh yes, BTS is also a Korean national asset which is one of the largest contributors to Korean economic income. Thank You
Yeah this one is a tough place to start because it's partway through the overall BTS Universe storyline, and it's full of historic and religious symbolism, books, colors, etc. I am sure others have already typed it out, but yeah... all the way from the very opening shot where an older member is paired with a younger member, and there are objects of youth and innocence... to the painting flanked by a white door and a black door... all the way through with the use of green to show temptation and to Jin's skin cracking at the end. It's really complex, but there are some good explainer videos if you wish to truly understand it. I would probably suggest starting with I Need U if you wish to see the very start of the BU (watch the explicit version for the full experience)... and it's not as full with complex symbolism, but it lays the foundation for the story, and frankly is an amazing video. Just know in all these "BU" videos, if something *seems* like it means something.. it probably does. lol
The MV is in a museum and therefore they made all the scene's represent different artwork styles. From still life like that one room to impressionism. To like you say the prints. It's really a masterpiece when you disect it.
You mentioned you're a psychology major. If you turn on the CC on their music videos, you may find more stuff to talk about other than filmmaking. The Wings album from where Blood Sweat & Tears is from was inspired by the book Demian by Herman Hesse. And their Map of the Soul album series was based on the Jungian psychology.
Um Tae-hwa is the Director of "Concrete Utopia" it's nominated at the 2024 Academy Awards. Also directed 'IU s Love Wins All" the mv I suggested you look at in a previous comment.
Don't confuse BTS with general Kpop they are very different. Kpop in general follow certain 'rules' BTS do not they are real artists not just performers who do as they are told. The broke the mould right from the get go in 2013 when they debuted and have never looked back. It's like comparing Apples and Oranges in fact it reminds me that 'Not all fruit's are oranges'.
BTS is so artistic, intellectual, poetic and creative. This video is one of my favorites. They start by showing that they are in a museum/art gallery and then it's just colors and madness after that. Such a cool way to show that they are the art themselves.
That was an interesting reaction ! I liked the filmmaking detail and the way you tied some of the visual techniques to other art forms. I have to tell you though that you missed an important part of the story when you covered your eyes when the music stopped! The MV continued at least another 5-10 seconds, and the final image tied the story together in a subtle way. Anyway I look forward to seeing more of your reactions 😊
you should watch IU Love Win All (Featuring V from BTS), the director of the music video is a award winning one so you can really feel the emotions. It's like a Sci Fi movie and it's just release so you should watch!
Welcome to BTS. I recommend *”Fake Love” , “Black Swan”, “Idol”, “Mic Drop” and “Not Today”* to start. Also, V, the one whose wings were cut just acted in IU’s mv that was released a couple of days ago. It’s a beautifully shot mv. I hope you will check it out. I know your focus isn’t on the music or lyrics but I hope this journey will get you interested in them. The individual members also have really good videos if you are interested. RM - Wildflower Suga (aka Agust D) - Haeguem J Hope - Hope on the Street feat J Cole Jin - Astronaut Jung Kook - Seven or Standing Next to You V - Slow Dancing Jimin - Like Crazy
Please watch these videos with an open mind…not with the mindset of you watching ‘k pop’ music videos. K pop is not a genre but an industry and BTS does so many different genres within that industry so if you are open to that idea then you will find yourself enjoying a whole new world of amazingly talented artists. Thank you for the reaction. 💜
Thank you for your reaction, may I please suggest that you have captions on for the lyrics as often the lyrics often influence the mv's design and atmosphere Borahae 💜
There are some BTS MVs that are actual mini-movies, not just MVs. These are "Daechwita" and "Haegeum" by Agust D, and "The Astronaut" by Jin. There's also the very recent "Love Wins All" by IU, in which BTS member V is the male lead, a very moving story.
its refreshing to have someone react to an aspect of bangtan's art in their area of passion and expertise. thank you for your interest and perspective 💜
Welcome to the BTS Universe. This MV did not have any green screen but there was a projection of color in the Alice and Wonderland dinner scene. In fact there were those that wanted to say that the videographer stole ideas from certain artist and though he looked in many art books to get inspiration, he never stole anyones work. I loved this MV from the start but know that when we all first saw it we were blown away not knowing what it was about until we were told that Namjoon the writer of the lyrics was inspired by the work from Herman Hesse's book Demian. I am glad you too were blown away.
The Wings' short films will be another experience. Those are not music videos, but short films that introduce the solo songs of the album Wings by BTS, the same album that has this MV (Blood, sweat and tears) and another one, that is incredible and only shows one of them dancing: Boy meets evil. That album, Wings, tells the story of young people in a moment of life that coincides with Herman Hesse's Demian, the book that is quoted here when the balloon flies, and in the short films. And is part of the background fictional story of the BTS discs, that is also their real story, and the story of all people, as every hero's journey -with the difference that they develop it with their own life, between discs-. Since I saw other ARMYs bragging about their age too haha, I'm 44 years old ARMY, Literature and Spanish professor in Argentina.
Hi, it‘s great, that you watched a bts mv, for the future, subtitels are a must for the mvs! There is so much behind everything and the cc is a great help. I hope you will soon react to another bts mv. I purple you
BtS create such beautiful moving art scenes 💜 they are a complete and refined package, so much goes into their sets and interpretation of their music. 💜💜💜
Loving your commentary!! It's refreshing to see people who genuinely took interest in their art and not just to boost their channel. I hope you'll continue checking more of their stuff 💜 Thank you!
This is my first BTS video Ive seen in 2016 when i first became a fan. Just blew my mind, and still does up til now. PS. I'm looking forward on your BTS journey and I hope to learn a lot from you from what you observe and decode on the cinematic skills of the whole team - from the set design, the wardrobe, the costumes, lighting, etc..
Thank you for reacting! Please turn on the English subtitles and ALWAYS watch till the mv runs out. There's often a scene of great importance at the very end.
I really enjoyed your reaction. I am a 56 year old Army and I am always happy to see people learn about BTS. There is a saying, "BTS finds you when you need them most". BTS found me in 2019 and literally saved my life. Their message and their music gave me back myself. I know you will probably watch Black Swan (beautiful) and Fake Love (wonderful) but I also suggest Spring Day. If you do watch Spring Day, I highly recommend watching the explanation video by Italian Army. As an American, I always watch the explanation videos because so much is lost by not being familiar with cultural references. Spring Day is a truly beautiful song but the video is amazing for many reasons. Any way, just my thoughts. Thank you for your reaction and I look forward to seeing more BTS reactions. I did subscribe. Good luck to you.
Welcome to BTS. Most of their videos are very cinematic and are rife with the unexpected. Sadly you ended the video before it was over. The final scene was just as intriguing as the rest of the video. I am however looking forward to more of your reactions to BTS videos. May I suggest Black Swan next.
This is my favorite BTS video, but I also love the lyrics of the song, and I couldn’t tell if you were actually reading the lyrics to or not, but they do give you a little bit of a clue as to what the song is about as others have said, they’re really great of a lot of their videos and making of sketches on TH-cam also! Thank you for teacting to this amazing video!
As well as agustd videos are like movies
We have to remember there is also a behind the scenes video for a great deal of BTS MV. Both for fake love and black swan. But save me might be very interesting. The one take and behind the scenes 😁
awesome thanks for the suggestion!

Enjoy! :) 💜

They have a shooting sketch for this MV you might find interesting ([EPISODE] BTS (방탄소년단) '피 땀 눈물' MV Shooting Sketch) and a decent breakdown for this one as well titled "BTS WINGS ERA EXPLAINED (Breaking down Blood Sweat & Tears MV & Short Films)"
thanks so much for this
Hi I’m a 42yr old ARMY (fan) whom has been with them since before they debuted in 2013. Please enjoy your beautiful journey.
thanks so much for this feedback!
When watching BTS mv's, often times every scene and every prop has a meaning... nothing is random.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
this video is very complicated to explain. and I'm not good with words so I'll try to do my best to explain 😬
so this video and its whole album was inspired by a book called Demian by Hermann Hesse. it's about the coming of age story. but this story is about accepting the good and evil within oneself as you transition from a child to an adult..
in the beginning, one member, Jin, stared at the painting of "The Fall of the Rebel Angels" which was placed in between 2 doors, black and white, good and evil. Jin represents the book's main character, Sinclair, who grew up in a religious family. He met Demian in his school and Demian is the character that guides Sinclair in his transition. He'll also be Sinclair's "tempter"
one of the characters, Demian I think, said "The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to god. That god's name is Abraxas." and Abraxas is represented by the statue as he's the god of both good and evil
well, at some point of the story, there was a war. During this war, Demian told Sinclair that when he needs help, he will just look inside him and Demian is within him, then Demian kissed him and vanished. Jin kissing the statue signifies that he accepted the good and evil within himself.
then, Jin's face cracked at the end of the video = the bird fights its way out of the egg
anyway, the other members were paired by 1 older member and 1 younger member.. Sinclair have mentors, and the older members were the mentors of the younger members. one of Sinclair's mentors, an organ player, promised him that he'll play him a piece, which SUGA, one of the older members played in the interlude of the video.
those green liquid and green smoke were the "temptation" and after Jin kissed the statue, all the younger members have been "infected" by the green liquid and smoke. and *chaos* ensue
there are also other reference in this video like the dinner which is like a representation of the last supper, there's also the apple, one member, V, with his wings cut off meaning he's a fallen angel.. there's also references of Icarus in other paintings.. Jungkook, the member on the swing floating in the air representing the fall of Icarus who flies too close to the sun. and so much more
btw, around 10:30 above the mirror, there's a quote by Nietzsche that says "You still have to have *chaos* inside you in order to be able to give birth to a dancing star"
this explanation is such a mess lol but I hope you understand it
Great summary, thank you!
You did a great job explaining this.
@@mplahke you're welcome 💜
@@Imme_begin thank you💜 BST MV is so intimidating to explain because of how complex (I think) it is 😅
You explained it well 👍.
Their director is a guy named lumpens & hes been with them from the start 💜
Eta 6:36 they rarely use green screens. Check out fake love, its wildin and there is very little effects its practical. Also, the mv makes more sense when you read the lyrics. Its about temptation
love it! thanks so much for the detail. will turn on the subs next time
@@itsjonhiller awesome you won't be disappointed.
I’ll echo what a lot
of other commenters have said. Please do turn on captions, as BTS lyrics are important! Fake Love and Black Swan are also ones I think you’d like. Hope to see more BTS from you. Thanks for the reaction.
will do! thanks for the feedback 🙏
🙏🙏🙏🙏
All of bts songs look like movies and they have story's to them I just love how they push the boundaries in all their videos. These guys are my favorite in all kpop artists these guys are my Absolute favorite.
🙏🙏🙏
There is not a wasted detail in this MV. Everything adds to the storytelling. Each painting, statue, music choice, door colour etc. etc.
it’s so intricate!
They set the bars for the rest to reach.
thanks for the detail!
Welcome to BTS and Army world. You have to watch more BTS videos, you will be amazed and surprised by BTS. They are absolutely phenomenal and incredible. Thank you for your reaction.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
All the BTS’s MV’s are so amazing, you should look them up. Also, since you are filmmaker, I recommend “Love wins all” from IU that released few days ago.
👍👍👍
I absolutely loved that video.😊
This song is about temptation, obsessive love, wherein you give all to the other, it's also about growth in yourself. Namjoon's narration is a quote from the book Demian by Herman Hesse. Welcome to our world. Rosey 62 from Australia.
thanks for this! i’m going to turn on the subs next time 🙏
It is impossible to overstate the importance of this mv.
How did I forget to add BS&T to my recommendations?
So when you see comments like these, they aren’t just empty claims - they can be backed up with “receipts.” In this case, TXT are the only group of artists who are true label siblings to BTS, and as such they admire them and strive to a similar level of success…so the work ethics would likely also be similar.
love this!
welcome to BTS rabbit hole, I found your comment about camera movement in Kpop interesting since at the moment I don't remember any BTS mv with this type of cuts, their takes are always individual or in groups, the MVs that I think you might find interesting would be Spring Day, Black Swan and Fake Love
awesome thank you!
YOU MUST MUST check out the just-released “Ronald” by Falling In Reverse for VFX like you have NEVER seen!
I could watch this music video a thousand times more…this masterpiece solidified my place in ARMY ❤
Bts videos are good projects to choose for video creators. They have deep stories in their videos.
I can tell you that no one is like BTS music videos it’s so cinematic, they are another level and amazing,
You should watch Fake love mv
will look into it!
Have a great evening.
thanks so much 🙏🙏🙏
Because of your background, you might find interesting to dive into BTS. Through music, lyrics and mv visuals they explore human psychology on different levels ( even Carl Jung...)😊
They are so different !!
will do! thank you!
From a 63-yr-old Silver ARMY.
thank you so much 🙏
Thank you for appreciating the artisty of this video. I think you might appreciate BTS - Fake Love too. It's not as heavily steeped in the symbology but it's very masterfully shot. I do hope you'll take a look. Thank you.
will take a look! thank you 🙏
You would appreciate the behind the scenes they release for each video. You can catch some glimpses of the equipment and obviously set design 💜
If you’re looking for the opposite end of the spectrum of camera movement, Dynamite uses a mostly static still camera
awesome will look for it!
But in the heart it is not "only" a visulaization of Hermann Hesse's Demian it is a story about becoming an adult under the idea's of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the psychology ideas of Carl Jung.
individuation/true self means the need to embrace both worlds the world of good and light but also the one of knowledge and temptation/evil
"Blood Sweat & Tears: What Does it All Mean?" by Don't Worry I'm Not Afraid
There is evil in all good and good in all evil. Both needs to be embraced for individuation.
Its a beautiful production of BTS,,wow, amazing!!❤❤❤
There dancing is on another level as well like wow.
WELCOME to the world of BTS!
awesome feedback! thanks so much!
Great reaction. There is a lot to this video and the album. As you will find with BTS. Welcome to the BU. Borahae 💜💜💜💜💜💜
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Blood, Sweat and Tears is inspired by Hermann Hesse's coming of age novel, Demian (1919).
Speaking about the concept and the meaning of the song at a press conference, RM stated: "The harder a temptation is to resist, the more you think about it and vacillate. That uncertainty is part of the process of growing.
Blood Sweat & Tears is a song that shows how one thinks, chooses, and grows." Suga added that "the song conveys an optimistic determination to use our wings to go far, even if we encounter temptations in life."
Lyrically, the song talks about the pain of addictive love. The lyrics address the themes of "temptation" and "carnal willingness" to sacrifice everything, through lines like: "Kiss me, I don't care if it hurts/ Hurry up and choke me/ So I can't get hurt any more."
[Towards the end of the music video at 4:05, RM reads a quote from the book:
"He too was a tempter; he, too, was a link to the second [world], the evil world with which I no longer wanted to have anything to do."
In 'Demian' this is a quote in which Sinclair thinks about Demian who is a friend and mentor to Sinclair.]
Blood, Sweat and Tears also have a Japanese version. ( th-cam.com/video/7OX7dIRReSA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iUT_p0QxXmQA2AyR )
MV shooting sketch with Eng sub. ( th-cam.com/video/z4keadU6Qyw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EkLeqAvkWBgO0wzr )
Blood, Sweat and Tears is basically about corruption, kissing the fallen angel means he was corrupted, that is why he started breaking at the end
The video that solidified my ARMY status! Love 피 땀 눈물 and Love 방탄 소년단! 💜💜💜💜💜
Wellcome to the rabbit hole, dear mister, you will have so much fun here
At end I'm yelling OPEN YOUR EYES WATCH TILL ITS COMPLETELY OVER 😂💜
Definitely appreciate the actual breakdown of the video itself, the technicalities, the break down of the camera work, set design. Its so annoying when reactors get bombarded by "fans" going on and on about the artist blah blah.
It's probably my favorite MV from BTS. Visually stunning. Both dark and seductive. Just an amazing piece of cinematography.
LIGHT AND DARK! Hermann Hesse's novel Damien is the foundation for this song and video. A protagonist recognizes his dark side for the first time. The painting is "Fall of the Rebels Angels", painted by Frans Floris in 1554.
Imagine Dragons newest song "Eyes Closed" has an amazing music video.
Spring Day has the prettiest color palette in their catalog, imo. :)
Being a psychology major you should watch the explanation videos on this song as I believe it will be fascinating for you & explain the “what is going on” feeling you have
love it! will do!
@@itsjonhiller I recommend this explanation vid. th-cam.com/video/5tlgAUE6yjg/w-d-xo.html
Thank You
If you haven't already, DEFINITELY check out IU 'Love Wins All'. The video features BTS' Taeyhung and it is INCREDIBLE!
Just know in all these "BU" videos, if something *seems* like it means something.. it probably does. lol

thank you so much for the feedback!
@@ruthfischer7615 Thank you I couldn't for the life of me rember how to spell it.
I've always found BTS videos kind of a journey.
Um Tae-hwa is the Director of
"Concrete Utopia" it's nominated at the 2024 Academy Awards.
Also directed 'IU s Love Wins All"
the mv I suggested you look at in a previous comment.
Don't confuse BTS with general Kpop they are very different. Kpop in general follow certain 'rules' BTS do not they are real artists not just performers who do as they are told. The broke the mould right from the get go in 2013 when they debuted and have never looked back. It's like comparing Apples and Oranges in fact it reminds me that 'Not all fruit's are oranges'.
thanks for the feedback!
BTS is so artistic, intellectual, poetic and creative. This video is one of my favorites. They start by showing that they are in a museum/art gallery and then it's just colors and madness after that. Such a cool way to show that they are the art themselves.
also the lyrics of this song are deep. i like every Storyline of BTS MV's 💜 thank u for the rv
Anyway I look forward to seeing more of your reactions 😊
thanks for the feedback!
they actually had a two story set
whoa.. that is wild!
you should watch IU Love Win All (Featuring V from BTS), the director of the music video is a award winning one so you can really feel the emotions.
RM - Wildflower
Suga (aka Agust D) - Haeguem
J Hope - Hope on the Street feat
J Cole
Jin - Astronaut
Jung Kook - Seven or Standing Next to You
V - Slow Dancing
Jimin - Like Crazy
awesome!
You'll see that in BTS MVs...Lumpens (who do most of their MVs) almost always use practical effects...its truly amazing from a film perspective!!
No one can be compared with BTS❤
You might love Fake Love!!!
thank you! i will keep this in mind ❤️
I really liked your reaction 💜 I'll stick around for more 😅
Thank you for your reaction, may I please suggest that you have captions on for the lyrics as often the lyrics often influence the mv's design and atmosphere

will do! thank you 🙏
BTS is beyond k pop. They have very little similarities to k pop but they are crazy different
the mv that made my fall into bts
There are some BTS MVs that are actual mini-movies, not just MVs. These are "Daechwita" and "Haegeum" by Agust D, and "The Astronaut" by Jin. There's also the very recent "Love Wins All" by IU, in which BTS member V is the male lead, a very moving story.
its refreshing to have someone react to an aspect of bangtan's art in their area of passion and expertise. thank you for your interest and perspective 💜
Bts! BTS!
Excited for you. Waiting for more bts related content
Thank you for the perfect detailed reaction of this video...keep going for more BTS reactions.
A masterpiece. I can’t get enough of this MV.
It's been almost 8 years... still... watching people's jaw drop during this video never gets old...
thank you so much for reacting to Bts, have a good day💜
The Wings' short films will be another experience.
"I've never seen a BTS video before" OMG WHAT!!!!!? This had to be an experience. I'm glad you found them and gave them a look
Hi, it‘s great, that you watched a bts mv, for the future, subtitels are a must for the mvs! There is so much behind everything and the cc is a great help. I hope you will soon react to another bts mv. I purple you

The video is inspired by the book Demian by Herman Hesse and also Thus Sprach Zarathustra by german philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche.
Wow, wonderful watch, so happy when talented people critique our talented people, BTS who make our world go around 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
This is my first BTS video Ive seen in 2016 when i first became a fan. Just blew my mind, and still does up til now.

SILVER ARMY HERE: age 64. As long as you react to BTS, I’m here! I subscribed. 💜👑
Welcome to BTS. Most of their videos are very cinematic and are rife with the unexpected. Sadly you ended the video before it was over. The final scene was just as intriguing as the rest of the video.
I am however looking forward to more of your reactions to BTS videos. May I suggest Black Swan next.
thanks so much!
Luv this reaction thank u!
