    How To Choose a game for Twitch Growth
    Personally, I think too many people rely on looking at the top games by viewers on Twitch to pick what they play, because I think there is a much better number.
    Category Followers. These are the people who have hit follow on a category or game, and if someone has done that they are pretty much going to get recommended on their homepage that category. They’ll also get recommended other categories they like watching, but you can’t see that number.
    An example, Stardew Valley a game I got a lot of growth in when I started, took me from 10 avg to 20 avg, has 798,000 followers, an incredibly active community who love it religiously, it still gets updates, has npc’s that are chatty so it's good for smaller streamers with less twitch chat to respond to, but it only averages at 500 - 800 total viewers and you only need 5 viewers to appear in the top 3 rows.
    The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

    I have my layout being 20 to 30 minutes of just chatting while sending out notifications on various socials. As for the 2 games I have been mainly alternating between us Stardew valley and My Time at Portia. Both games have small development teams, they both involve crafting and retro aesthetics. So I get the Minecraft fans and retro gamers coming over. I show off mods in Stardew so old players can see something new. At the end of my stream I read off my recent twitch followers.

    I noticed a trend as I was experimenting with content last year, which has allowed me to find my niche - cozy crafting with a sprinkle of chaos and loads of giggles 🤭 but I still once a week play either animal crossing or the sims.

  • @MatchaMellow
    @MatchaMellow ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Some one called me "their cozy reassuring guide to roguelike games" and I think this is a beautiful reflection of who I am as a creator. While I stream more than just roguelikes, I know that's what my community tends to prefer... but also that many of them will come along with me no matter what. I think my biggest "issue" is that I love experimenting... like I'm going to start a bookclub on stream. While not necessarily in my niche, its about networking, connections, community. It could be a bust, but for me content creation is about finding joy in the things I do. It might make me grow slower or maybe not grow much at all... but as long as I'm finding joy, that's what's important.
    I think your tips are fantastic by the way. But I also think it's important for people to consider why they create content. Is it just for higher viewership/making money or is it for some other reason?

    Retro is actually a good example for how variety works. If you've built up a retro base you can pretty much stream any game within that genre and people will still show up.

    The mindmap/niche I've focussed on isn't necessarily on Twitch anymore but for TH-cam content. And it's sort of a mix of what Alpharad and Pointcrow are doing but with a heavier focus on Pokémon as the core. I'd also say that your personal TH-cam channel has been a beacon of inspiration for me and it's great to see your efforts be rewarded!

    I think my niche is story-focused rpgs like Witcher 3 or even Breath of the Wild because I feel like my strength as a streamer (and this may sound weird as hell) is howe into the games I get. I've even cried on stream multiple times, but people who love the games I love really bonded with me over how emotional and open I am. Soooo I guess I gotta find more games that make me really emotional and that have great storylines

    My mind map has, recently, been Souls games. I've sprinkled in Soulslikes and Roguelikes around it for breaks, and now that I've finished my first journey, I'm planning more challenge runs and event streams around the souls series. I do chatting at the beginning of my stream, and Sundays are heavily chatting and community focused days. Trying to keep the variety to active adventure games.

    My content map has been an interesting journey going from singleplayer games I loved to league of legends to dead by daylight to where I am now, I've been playing mostly singleplayer RPG, and anime like games nowadays like as of recent Genshin Impact and Tales of Arise. Been really thinking about and trying to focus on what I've truly wanted to do for content past while because I felt lost but now that I have an idea its time to work on becoming better and creating content for other places other than twitch but its a struggle to motivate myself but 1 step at a time. Thank you for the great content as always!

    Yesterday I spent some time really considering the type of content I like to make, and what games I enjoy. The idea of playing one game sounded insane to me, but I knew that games can be similar, which means you can get away with streaming Pokemon one day and potentially making a side game something else related. For me, I aim to do a mix between Pokemon, Minecraft, and Phasmophobia (just to add some spice on a day I choose). For the time being though, because I'm so new, I aim to build something in Pokemon before branching out too much.

    I stream strategy games like 80% of the time, like Knights of Honor, Total War and Crusader Kings. There's a lot of overlap between those games, so I get a good chunk of my audience to tune in to each game. I also usually have like 1 classic horror game night, a little less popular. But since my audience tends to be a bit older, like 30's-40's, a decent chunk will have enjoyed older games and there can be some overlap there. I think I've done really well nailing the audience.
    Biggest problem to me is not the target demographic (older viewers, mostly strategy fans, some horror fans), but the schedule. The point about playing the game several days in a row stuck out to me there. Right now I'll stream like:
    Wed: Strategy
    Thur: Strategy
    Fri: Strategy multiplayer
    Sat: Horror
    Sun: Strategy
    It's worked in the past, but this has lead to never playing the same game two nights in a row. Not to mention sometimes we've started co-op campaigns one day a week and that didn't work out that well. And while weekend nights have previously done well, lately they've been the worst for viewership. So maybe I'll change to Monday horror, Tues to Thur the same strategy game, then Fri as that MP game. Hopefully that'll work better!

    I know I have thought about venturing outside of my main game, but always found my viewership was MUCH lower. I know this is to be expected but I was too worried about numbers to really TRY it.
    The idea of the mindmap is a great one! My other games went from my mainstay of the MMO ESO to swapping to BOTW or cult of the lamb for a video or two. I see now with the idea of a mindmap that my audience would likely have 0 interest in watching this other content.
    Now for the idea of could I handle more then one MMO >.> So much grinding to do in just the one I am in not sure how I could expand to another, but a thought to keep in the back of my mind!

    To understand this, my schedule is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Monday and Wednesday I play one of 3 games (rocket league, Minecraft, or terraria) and on fridays it’s funky fridays, allowing me to play any game I want, and I often get people coming in just to see what game I’m playing. Doing this, they come see what I’m playing, then they are more invested in me as a person than that random game I’m playing, bringing them back into my streams.
    I was wondering what you think of this style. And if possible, you could come stop by one of these days and see how I’m doing. I’m new to streaming, and somewhat lost on what to do better or lost.
    If you read this far, I hope you have an amazing day

    I'm new enough that I really don't know what kind of content I want to make, or even if it's to emphasize making videos or streaming. But my main genre is JRPGs so I titled my twitch stream to be a play-on words for that...which is GREAT but at the same time, the truth is I'm not deadset on a category or game. My main game is League, I like JRPGs, and I like challenge runs myself, though I'm bad at every game I play haha. I think since I'm a 0 views Andy anyway my roadmap is to just take a week or so to try streaming a little bit of everything, to find what I like best. Once I get better at entertaining, I think I'd like to do blind LPs of JRPG series I haven't done yet, like Yakuza and the Final Fantasies I haven't played. All I know is I have tons of ideas and they need to start getting made, even if they suck at first

    Really good video, I am trying to find my niche, and I have narrowed it down to competitive games, what really makes me happy was to play mario kart 64, super smash bros on the n64 and just trash my friends, not in a toxic way but in a fun way like " are you son of a ***** that was a really good move, got you on that one! , left you behind to catch by dust jajaj" and so one, it's like, friendly toxic?

    Very rough mindmap: source games starting with CSGO, branching into the Half Life games, Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, and other Valve titles. Focusing on modding/ customi maps and community interaction through multiplayer mods played on my own servers.
    Inspiration taken from Jolly Wangcore, but also just the general CSGO Mapcore community, which is where I want to start building.
    Of course I also need to stop being addicted to the Dark and Darker demo. Or stop streaming Dorfromantik/ other chill games when I'm feeling emotionally vulnerable.

    If i do Stream Raiders, Marbles or Music only my viewership instantly halved. But if i do like this that i mainly focus on Diablo 2 and all other is just part of it as secondary option it kinda works out.

    I’m just about to start my streaming/TH-cam journey after a decade of wanting to start. My map at the moment is to spend the next 2 weeks doing a stream challenging where I climb the ranked ladder of Pokémon unite till the season ends. After that I would still play this as I enjoy competitive gaming, but not the SUPER toxic kind (looking at you LoL). And plan on sprinkling in Pokémon Nuzlockes with punishments at some point, and branching out from there. I’ve got a great support group of friends and family to help support me. I could plan for 2 target niches. 1. Tactical FPS enjoyers, so I would focus games like Tarkov, Warzone's DMZ, Apex // and then 2. Anime/Gacha niche, so I would focus Genshin, Honkai, Punishing Gray Raven. // Ideally, the end game would be to enjoy both audiences with a set schedule, this way I can enjoy both niches and take turns making 2 audiences happy with consistent pacing. Every once in a while, maybe I can focus on games that mixes the two, like Girls Frontline, Arknights, Neural Cloud, COD + Warzone Mobile, etc.

    I'm not sure if you've answered this kind of question before but would it be detrimental to my attempted TH-cam growth to transition from streaming to twitch to stream to TH-cam or maybe alternate and so it's primarily TH-cam streaming with a couple twitch streams a week or once a week, I've been trying for years to get twitch to work, but it just hasn't panned out like
    I'm trying to become more consistent with my video and shorts uploads in the hopes of reviving my TH-cam, and if those revive the channel a little bit then maybe start streaming again over here. But I'm not sure if I should keep trying for twitch.

Is it okay to switch weekend content and weekday content?

    My mind map has definitely become roguelikes as a cornerstone as I play them on a spin wheel on Wednesdays, but over the past month I've dedicated myself to playing every single kingdom hearts game in order as a blind playthrough! I feel like my niche then would be nostalgia or solid roguelike fundys/mechanics

    I have a bunch of random games i play since I started playing games like 5 months ago and am still figuring out what all i like, but i also have a schedule more or less, and i remind my viewers at the end of every stream what im playing tomorrow and when im playing this game again. Up until recently Monday/Wednesday was Resident Evil 1(Jill), Tuesday/Thursday was Portal 2, and Friday was whatever i was in the mood for (jackbox, fortnite, COD, just chatting, reading out loud, etc) but i usually try not to play one of my scheduled games on Fridays in case someone is trying to follow my playthrough based on my schedule. And i usually try chatting for a bit at the beginning of my streams but if someones asking me to hurry up and play, and the chat is slow ill just get right to it 🤷‍♀️
    I just finished resident evil and havent been enjoying Portal 2, and all i want to play right now is Hogwarts Legacy so ive put other games on hold to binge that for the next little bit 😅 not the wisest move, i know! But i think i should have taken a break between Portal 1 and 2 so it actually seemed like good timing. I fully intend to go back to Portal 2 and do a Chris Resident Evil 1 playthrough like I said i would, and I let my viewers know that!! Hopefully after a break ill be able to enjoy Portal 2 more😅

    Hey Eljay. Im not sure if you're still giving feedback but my mind map would consist of mainly the Texas Chainsaw Massacre game, but every so often switching it up to other horror games such as phamsophobia or even ones on Roblox. Loved this vid btw truly so helpful💙!

  • @MuirlySims
    @MuirlySims ปีที่แล้ว

    What I'm currently doing is streaming 2x per day, 3 days per week. In the mornings, I play The Sims 4; in the evenings, I play a different game series each year (last year was The Witcher, this year is Borderlands). My main game could be considered to be The Sims 4, since it's the game I play the most and is what I do on YT. I tend to concentrate on chat to the point where it's about 50/50. I talk about different topics throughout the stream, ask questions, and so on. I think one idea that I might try is to take whatever game series I'm playing at night, and try to work it into The Sims somehow. Maybe try to recreate a game character or a building in The Sims. That might provide a bit of overlap between the two.

    I mainly try to start my streams with a little bit of chatting at the beginning, but depending on if the chat is slow, I end up just jumping into the game. Right now, I mainly stick to Tuesday being specifically Dead By Daylight, or as I call it, "Trials Tuesday". My other two days are currently playing through Sekiro and finishing some Bloodborne content I missed. When I finish Bloodborne, I was thinking of jumping to Resident Evil 3 Remake. I've been kind of trying to catch up on certain franchises I missed out on, and I'm still working through some games like Dark Souls 1 and Persona 4 Golden. I've definitely started slowly developing an audience, but it just depends on the day with who shows up or not. Open to any advice you guys have.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’d try think a bit more about your audience and where they’re coming from, if someone follows you for dead by daylight, are they likely to watch persona?
      They’d likely connect to other horror games, especially less gruesome ones that are similar to DbD.
      Just really consider where those follows are coming from and who those people :)

    • @blue_battlehawk
      @blue_battlehawk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StreamScheme Appreciate the advice! I have noticed a bit of a dip on days when I play Persona, but it also depends, since sometimes my friends show up so chat is sometimes a bit more lively. I'll definitely take that comment about other horror games into consideration! Thanks for responding!

    I'm curious about your thoughts on a streamer who does game reviews as their primary content. As that niche I would think that's another way to break into being a personality streamer since a good review requires good insight.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Game reviews are a content type, not a niche :)
      A niche would be making game reviews about indie games, or cozy games, or shooters, etc
      If you build an audience who love your game reviews of cozy town builders and indie games, will they click on FPS shooter reviews? Likely not :)

    Our layout is a bit odd. We have a channel called Watch Party Inc because our main goal is to make movies and film, to grow our audience for the films we play games that have some sort of relationship to the film. For Example: On our BTS Channel, Behind the Couch, We are currently producing a Dungeon's and Dragon's Tutorial. The first of each episode will be us reenacting the real sessions we play as a recap and then we break down the module blah blah blah. SO we are gonna play Medieval Fantasy RPG's starting with Minecraft, But we want to play Skyrim and Zelda too. Then when we work on the next film or BTS Project we play our games based on that. As for your advice we do play ALOT of Pokemon, so maybe a good transition for us is Legend's Arceus at some point.
    Thank you for the advice and educated input!

  • @Asdisekai

    I would have to say the niche of my content is the lore of the games I play. I primarily wanna make my live content on Twitch to be something where I can play the game, talk about the lore with the viewers, and answer their question while live. That said I have started to make a TH-cam channel for just lore videos to filter more of those people in just having issues with the video editing part. But I stick with a game till on stream till I beat it and then I continue I to another game in that series or a similar game. The main reason I chose lore is because I know a great deal about the worlds of the games I play, and for a a lot of them what they are based off of. And looking at past streams where I have gonna into more detail on the lore and its source material have gotta more views and chatters. I know I probably set up an impossible niche for myself but its something I'm highly interested in and it can easily show when I talk about. And if I do switch to a different gsme I tend to give a month warning in advance.

    I know this is a video about Twitch, but do you think the same advice about starting with a Just Chatting segment applies to TH-cam Streams?
    I try to start my streams by hopping right into the game because content comes first on TH-cam. Plus, I think it's good for VOD viewers because they probably don't wanna watch me sit there for 20 minutes at the start. I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on this!

    • @DezzNytes
      @DezzNytes ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On TH-cam you can trim away parts of the stream in post. You could choose to go live with a chatting section and when you go into your stream content make sure you give the viewers another hook about what the gaming content is about. Afterwards just trim off the first section

    • @Flembons
      @Flembons ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DezzNytes if you edit parts out of the stream in post, it sadly removes the Live Chat Replay, which makes for an awkward viewing experience unless you’ve got your chat on screen

    One thing is having a mind map (for me, my core is Nioh 2, so mine is Team Ninja games to one side, like Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, and Koei-Tecmo to the other, like I guess Dynasty Warriors games?; action games all around); but another thing is what to do when you're just having a capital-B, capital-D Bad Day™.
    Hard pivoting to a backup game is _a kind_ of variety, I guess, but it's not the best, but like, is there a way to deal with the kind of situation where you just can not?
