      Fisrt time I see your channel this video need to be spread more. Really informative even for big content creator. I feel TH-cam algorith can be really bad some time and some time really good. But i just think i mess whit mine by stroling shorts and 2min video for 1h or more.

    @coldfries8976 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    TH-cam's algorithm is absolutely superior for ANY content creator starting streaming.
    Smaller, newer streamers get picked up so good by the algorythm if they stream daily with regular uploads.
    I've been following severall smaller Streamers jump from 50 to 500 viewers in the matter of 2 weeks. I'm very happy to see that.
    Consistency is and stays key tho.

    Being discovered while live totally depends on how you're titling your videos. We're constantly being found by new viewers while live. If you title them strategically just like you do recorded videos when someone searches for that or something similar you're there.
    Great video man. 🤘😎

      It may be different in the gaming section though to be fair...

    • @RedactedNews
      @RedactedNews 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      We leave our lives up after the fact as they end up getting 50k views plus. Again I think this all totally depends on your niche.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Interesting to look at!
      I think you're right, it depends on the niche.
      But also on another level, I think it heavily depends on how high quality your content is, and how well the streams VoD was packaged.
      I've noticed some gaming channels that do more cozy style content, leaving there VoDs up and published has helped them because Viewers enjoy putting them on to lurk, sleep, have in the background, etc.

    I've genuinely considered starting streaming lately, been watching hours of guides of both the technical stuff and behaviour, yours especially, and I've been working on a setup the past weeks etc, but I'm not sure whether to start streaming on YT or Twitch anymore, especially with the recent Twitch changes I've heard about. I've been setting up my Twitch too, but this video has really made me consider YT.

    Cleaning up that homepage UI will be gaming changing when it comes to shorts content! Live streaming on TH-cam is advantageous right now since there are more views than streamers, but Twitch's latest moves will definitely bring a lot more streamers to this platform. I hope TH-cam continues to make these changes. I believe they could easily overtake Twitch if they solve their own streaming problems.

    I swapped to TH-cam RIGHT before all the Twitch drama about the 50/50 splits, twitch con stuff, gambling stuff, and I'm glad I did! I had already built a community over on TH-cam through normal videos that was three times the size of my Twitch following, so I get 20-60 viewers almost every stream! On twitch, I averaged at 10-20 viewers, and had never gotten above 30 viewers without a raid. Definitely happy the transition was smooth for me!

  • @gimmedecash
    @gimmedecash 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I personally prefer TH-cam just because of custom thumbnails in streams. Granted, you're less likely to be noticed because of the amount of streams/channels that don't do gaming content. Also shorts ROCK (both the ones on my legs atm and the ones on YT), really helps with smaller channels get noticed!

  • @inouji
    @inouji 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've been on TH-cam for almost 3 months now, doing weekly videos. I started streaming here about a month later. I don't have a lot of subs, but I already hit over 1k watch hours, because I've been fortunate enough to find some great people that enjoy my content and regularly hang out in my stream.
    I haven't done any shorts yet, because I hate how cluttered the channel page looks right now, so these changes are amazing! Can't wait to finally go all-in and use all these tools.
    Also, discovery isn't all that bad since TH-cam does have some very big advantages for streams: Thumbnails and recommending VoDs.
    Thumbnails are super powerful in getting people to click on your stream, even if there aren't a lot of viewers - I've had multiple people come in and tell me they just saw my Thumbnail on their home feed and thought it was cool and checked it out - some of them are now in my stream every time I'm live!
    TH-cam is also pushing VoDs like they're normal videos, so if you keep them listed, they are an amazing way to grow - Of course, they usually get a much lower CTR, since most people don't bother clicking on a 4 hour video, but when you're small, every view counts, so having this tool, as opposed to Twitch VoDs that NO ONE watches when you're small, is super helpful!
    Looking forward to seeing you on TH-cam, Eljay! 💚

    This video was very well made and you explained what the smaller channel like ourselves were actually struggling with! We started our channel in March and focused primarily on short form content. We definitely grew however we did notice when we did longer videos the short viewers were left unaware that we even did it. We took a short break and came back with a new plan to push shorts every day using clips from longer videos and telling the viewers the long videos are on the channel however again this didn't really do much due to the difficulty for a shorts viewer to go from the shorts feed to your channel. Ever since the update has been announced we have noticed our videos getting way more views than they did before (from 5 views to 30 views which is big for us). Focused a lot more energy in thumbnails and titling also helped but with this update being announced this is HUGE! Would encourage those on the fence to take advantage of the shorts whilst these updates are being implemented!

    To be fair, when it comes to properly sorting/separating streams, shorts, and videos, TH-cam is working on a better UI. As far as I know it's already rolling out on mobile, and it is clean af. I don't think it will be necessary to unlisted streams anymore in the near future.
    Edit: well shoot, maybe I should've waited a little longer before pausing to comment. Anyhow, YT is certainly making great changes.

Had enough of this "sad feeling most of the time to not become enough viewers and the recognition I tried to get in the last 2 years. It was okay, I have some firms and cooperations around me, but the motivation disrupts if you are doesnt "go live" everyday and "function". Its so hard to get attention on twitch and mostly "big" streamers getting the full audience you will never has had without "connection", as many as you tries. In my case I tried so many thinks out for me and the people, but the audience doesnt see it often. thats demotivating. I only want to live and spread out what I love and to show it to the people to distract them in this hard times to get the best feelings on a hard day.. Now I am ready for a chance and a new begin. So I put different streaming series in their own playlists, when I’m setting up the stream, before I even go live. • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a quick way to hurt viewers and the retention of the video though.
      The updates in this all connect and interact, covering them in 3 different videos means that viewers would need to watch all 3 to understand the extent of the changes.
      They'd be lost, and confused due to assumed knowledge or requiring prior knowledge of other videos, this hurts retention rate on education videos, and really any video.
      Breaking it down this way allows anyone no matter who to watch and understand the impact properly without requiring any other work, information, or prior knowledge.

    I've had shorts and lives with some produced vids on my channel (didn't believe in separating it all) and it actually works really well. I've been doing the strat of releasing a short about an hour before going live for months now and it works really well! Also I leave the livestream up after its over as a VOD and it get views. I will say that I think its a niche thing cause I have a gaming channel and the same strat isn't nearly as effective as it is with my commentary/react channel. Gaming content on YT is for sure harder to crack through I'll say. Great video with many great points.

    (On my content channel) I've had over 9k watch hours for what seems like forever. My channel is over 2 yrs old now and I'm just now hitting 900 subs, it's all 10-30 minute edited videos. Watch hours has never been a problem for me, so it's interesting seeing your take that the subs isn't the issue

    I don’t know if I’m considered an average viewer or where I fall on the “viewer categorization” tier lol but here are my thoughts if anyone cares:
    -I don’t care for discoverability the way everyone wants it on TH-cam. My main tool to discover other channels is through Twitter
    -I also don’t care what a channel’s page looks like. Do people really go back and look at vods? Not judging. Just asking. I’ll go through a channel’s page and I can identify their vods by the time stamp.
    -personally, I prefer TH-cam just because it’s easier to check out the creator’s channel since I’m already there.
    -the only thing I like about twitch over TH-cam is the mini player. I have TH-cam premium so my videos will keep playing, but sometimes it’s nice to have the mini player.
    Anyways, don’t mean to make anyone feel some type of way. Just my opinion. Much love to everyone. Awesome video as well.

This is a really good video and I’ve been doing a lot of research on TH-cam videos since I wanna start that too. Idk how the retention on this video is but I think that it would improve if you talked about the main point (stream hours being retained) in the beginning of the video and then went into depth. Love the videos and looking forward to watching your streams!!

    What keeps me from moving is the lack of extensions to automate interactivity. I use things like SoundAlerts and Voicemod and TH-cam doesn't have a seamless way to integrate those things into your stream yet.

    Yes please to how the streams work differently. I stream on twitch and just did my first stream on TH-cam but it was a little confusing on how to go about it. I have streamed for countless hours on Twitch, with overlays, sound effects, great gameplay, great quality, amazing audio, music, everything…. I have 30 followers… barely 1 viewer if not a bot. I left Twitch. I’m now on YT. It’s amazing, I love it and I have already got 300+ people who subscribed within the last 2 weeks who actually enjoy my gameplay and have commented on my videos. TH-cam is just much better in terms of outreach. I don’t live stream yet, but growing my subscriber list, then once I have a decent amount, I’m sure when I live-stream, I’ll have 100x viewers than I did than Twitch.

    I stream as a vtuber on TH-cam and Twitch separately.
    I used to stream on TH-cam 5/week last year, but I started streaming on Twitch also. So, now I stream 2/week on TH-cam, and 2/week on Twitch.
    Now, I am happy to be exposed on both platforms.
    I advertise my TH-cam channel while streaming on Twitch, and I advertise my Twitch account while streaming on TH-cam.
    I recommend using both platforms if you want to be discovered.

    Finally, no more Triple Channel cumbersome strategy (Main, Live VOD & Shorts). Long overdue but what a massive change! Now, all you need as a creator is this one place, one channel, with all your contents and various formats. Amazing for creators and viewers. Well done, TH-cam. Now, we still need to diversify our revenue sources but this is so much easier to grow than before...

    On that question of whether or not streams count toward the 4000 hours required for monetisation: streams of less than 12 hours, that remain 'Public' do count; streams over 12 hours, or those 'Unlisted' or 'Private' (as mentioned in vid) don't count. Of course there could be some mysterious variance that affects your channel, but that's our experience. Oh, and it takes 2 or 3 days post-stream for the streamed hours to contribute to the overall count.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It seems some also feel activity means a lot, if a viewer never engages or isn’t active with a like, etc than their watch time doesn’t count… but I can’t see any proof, just more theories in the comments sadly.

    • @sydneylivecamera
      @sydneylivecamera 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StreamScheme Huh, that's interesting. Getting that first 4k watch hours certainly feels like a challenge governed by an opaque and mysterious rule-structure. Eg we were getting 4k hours a month, but only a handful of hours added in the monetisation calculation. It was easy to theorise it was adding as a percentage of live hours, or some other metric, but it was simply that 24/7 streams don't add to the monetisation calculation. That said, it's all so undefined, and hard to confirm, that interaction could indeed be a factor!
      PS. Thanks for the great video.

    I don't recommend to anyone to upload shorts in their main channel. It can get you subs but those subs are not gonna watch your main videos. Only your shorts

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I normally would agree, however depending on your niche, with the new changes where shorts actually recommend your videos now this might be worth it now.
      Remember previously shorts didn’t promote videos, but NOW they do in the algorithm.
      It requires testing but from what I’ve seen so far, it actually can go a long way.

    • @AbelVlogsRD
      @AbelVlogsRD 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StreamScheme Well, they can recommend it but there are people who watch just shorts on TH-cam and rarely watch a video. I know a friend who started uploading shorts and got viral and now she has 96k subs with 40k+ views on her shorts and 900 views on her main videos

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which is fair, but remember up until VERY recently those views would not recommend to longer videos.
      We need to wait, and see how these new changes to the algorithm actually work and how people actually implement the shorts to their channels.
      The issues are based on the old lack of an algorithm and not on the new system.
      There are other issues as well, like what are the shorts VS what are the medium form content? Do they connect, are the audiences connected? Is the thumbnail, title, and packing of the main videos good enough?
      Shorts are much easier to get views in, absolutely, but converting those viewers over is on us by making content appealing to those people as well.

    Doing a lot of research and will start streaming for a semester away from college to take a break and try something new- Do you think that currently streaming on twitch, then using those VODs to create videos, and then shorts to promote those videos is a smart way to start off right now to diversify? There are a few things that I still want TH-cam to have, that Twitch doesn't.
    The first thing, is the who's live tab on the left-hand side. Having a side tab in my UI that shows which streamers I follow who are live, as well as recommended streams has been how I decide which streamers to watch, most of the time. It also gives me the power to see who I want to raid.
    The second thing is actually channel hosting and channel raiding. Now, hilariously, Twitch is actually removing hosting, which does suck, but the ability to send your audience to another streamer, and giving them content while you're gone is a really good feature, and helps streamers support each other. Not to mention that if you could host a live channel while you're offline, that means that people going to your channel for the first time would see you recommending a fellow streamer that they might also like.
    The third thing that I really like from Twitch is the panels/buttons you can put under your stream, that people can use to find links to other socials you're on, your computer specs, and other things, all without needing to leave your livestream.
    If all these things were implemented on TH-cam, then I'd definitely make the switch. Currently though, I'm still hesitant.
