massive pretty cure fan. I want to see any sort of 4kids dub material they did for futari wa so badly, just to see how much of a disaster it likely would've been. you're also the first lost media youtuber I've ever seen mention any pretty cure stuff, so shout out to you! seeing someone discuss this made me so happy
Thanks man, I'm glad you enjoyed! Do you think it actually exists or do you think they just sat on the license and did nothing with it for the years they had it? I'm still kinda undecided on the whole thing
@@MediaSenseiOG I like to think they did something. I mean Toei was going to make a Hannah Montana anime and while it was cancelled shortly after, they did at least make animation tests and character designs even though it was in their future series plans for such little time. I think all we need is someone to actually contact an ex-4kids employee and ask for proper confirmation, but I'm hopeful that some sort of dub test exists.
Ikr while I acknowledge the “girly” shows like Tokyo mew mew (mew mew power) and Ojamajo Doremi (magical Doremi) did not appeal to this guy as a kid, I like that he acknowledges them
Good stuff! I’m glad my silly little interviews were able to help shed light on the F-Zero dub a little more, and hopefully more info will be uncovered some day. Keep up the good work, guy!
Oh nothing silly about them my friend, they definitely helped us get a little more info about the dub of the show and were an enjoyable listen in general. Thanks for watching and, likewise, keep up the good work!
Yeah, that dub would've been a really unfortunate one. Makes me glad they never even considered going for any cartoons based on Belgian comics, *shudders in how they would've managed Spirou & Fantasio 2006.*
Unless it was covered in another video, there's also the case of the three pitches 4Kids had for TMNT after Fast Forward failed as a toyline. The first one being close to the concept of "Back to the Sewers" where the Turtles scoured cyberspace for missing data pieces of Splinter, up against a Cyber Shredder, but in the pitch version the show would have been entirely that plotline and the Turtles would be paired up with obnoxious baby versions of themselves. The second one was based on the Superhero universe Mikey got transported to in a multi-dimensional story arc. This one would have been accompanied by a digital internet TCG that 4Kids was trying desperately to make a thing (basically what they did with Chaotic). And then the third option was just rebooting the entire thing, but closer to what Archie Comics did (or at least what the fandom perceived would be the case). Something, unlike the original comics the 2K3 series was based on, that would have had all the popular Archie and 87 cartoon mutants. I believe that they intended to put all three pitches up on their website and you could have voted for each concept, but it never came to pass and they just did Back to the Sewers.
It wasn't covered but I have indeed heard about this. I would've loved to have seen some of those, especially since I wasn't the biggest fan of back to the sewers
@@MediaSenseiOG It all tracks back to the major problem with Fast Forward, and how Playmates basically goaded 4kids into changing the show's format to sell new toys, since the line kinda struggled with the show not having the collectible mutants the 87 series had. And so eager to change the format, they aired Fast Forward before the actually completed season 5 of the show. Back to the Sewers was this weird compromise that turned it into a transitional show, as the toyline now moved to the 2007 movie and their character designs, and Back to the Sewers toys were going to be Cyber variants of the movie action figure line. And those didn't even get released.
I've been watching a lot of lost media videos lately, and I never even thought about 4kids. I still remember the old 4kids One Piece intro lol. This was a good video, you've earned another sub!
Fun fact: that dub of One Piece was actually also lost but it was eventually found so I didn't feel it was necessary to include 🤣. Glad you enjoyed man, thanks a lot for watching!
@MediaSenseiOG Another fun fact: 4kids never actually wanted anything to do with One Piece, because they knew the show's content wasn't appropriate for their target audience. It was forced upon them by Toei as part of a package deal for two other shows they actually wanted to dub (Kinnikuman Nisei and DoReMi) because they wanted OP to air on broadcast television where it can reach a wider audience and didn't care how badly it had to be butchered, they desperately wanted OP to be a hit in North America since its their golden child. Al Kahn was specifically interested in acquiring the OP license since he knew how popular it was in Japan, despite many of his staff being against it.
Thanks man! I'll probably do a video on Cartoon Network lost media in general at some point, there's so much of it out there. I'll keep that in mind for then
It's sad that the F-Zero franchise can never catch a break. Not only has the video game series been mostly abandoned (they released F-Zero 99 but I don't count that) but the anime has been lost to time
@@bluebaron6858 don't care XD Sentai filmworks doesn't dubcast everything nor does everything sale like damn hotcakes especially when home media sales diminished in 2022 to 2023 and now. Besides it was amazing and I have been watching seasonal stuff since 2015 to present.
they had a show i loved called cubix robots for everyone that isn't lost but certainly forgotten with only low quality episodes available. makes me feel like it will one day be actually lost though.
I believe there are some DVD releases of the series although I'm not sure if the entire thing has been archived or released on DVD. If you're interested in Cubix, you might enjoy my Toonami Lost Media video as I had a whole entry dedicated to that show. Feel free to give it a look!
@@MediaSenseiOG unfortunately i have only seen one dvd for the us and it wasn't even a full chunk of episodes but just the first two or three episodes and marketed as a movie kind of thing i think because the lower ratings of the show here maybe? there do seem to be more dvds of it but they are region four and still rare or korean. and i could see the uk potentially renaming mong as mark but i've only known him as mong being from the us.
I still remember when the Saturday cartoon thing was "fox box" early on. It was when they played a bunch of my favourites like kirby RBAY, muscle ultimate, NINJA TURTLES, sonic x, that weird but fun lovable fighting food show, and many more. Everything was amazing. Until suddenly after a while they started calling it "fox box, 4kids TV" which "coincidentally," was when the Saturday cartoons started to go downhill. First thing I noticed aside from the name change, they started this annoying bias where they'd do two episodes of wynx and bratz side by side while not giving other shows like ninja turtles or kirby the same treatment. It's like they developed a bias for those shows. Sonic X also for whatever reason wasn't being played anymore despite their constant claims it "would next weekend!" (Which felt more like they made sonic go to get milk) even as a kid I knew something was screwy. Then later the name was just "4kids" without any sign of the VASTLY superior fox box name. This was when the Saturday cartoons were completely ruined. They not only removed many of the old classics they had during the box era but replaced them with trash like "will and do it" (that show was an eyesore...) At that point, I lost all interest in the Saturday cartoons. Rip.
@@bluebaron6858 my memory could be wrong, but I remember watching it on tv and on the website. I was deep into the sonic forums on there for the fanfiction lol.
What's really baffling about 4Kids is that they have this weird Westernization policy where if a show isn't set in the West, they will go out of their way to Westernize that show to oblivion. It doesn't matter if it's food, a building, or even a character's name. They will erase ANY link that show has with Japan. Even after they went bankrupt and were rebranded as 4Kmedia in the 2010s, they still continued this practice. Examples include renaming character names for no god damn reason like Yugo to Hugo or Yuzu to Zuzu in Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V. These character's names are absolutely fine as they were and aren't hard to remember or pronounce, but they changed them anyway because they didn't sound American enough.
Hugo was the Japanese spelling, 4K added the Y themselves. They only changed the running Fusion gag, which was smart since the joke doesn't translate to English. 4Kids were always great at making clever changes that still fit the original material.
Well...I guess it all depends on the localizer's philosophy. Some wish to preserve as much of the original translation as possible, while others strive to iron out all foreign oddities to make the show feel as natural as possible to the audience. While I do think some of 4Kids's edits have been silly and sloppy over the years, I think most of them have been acceptable. The edits done to One Piece though went WAY overboard to the point where the localizers had to become censors in order to lower the age rating for each and every episode.
@@UndertakerU2ber 4kids just didn't know what they were getting themselves into. They didn't think a kiddy looking japanese cartoon would be so hyper violent.
Ooh I love videos about stuff like this! I remember every show in this video except for Funky Cops, which I have no memory of at all. I saw Mewmew Power and F-Zero GP Legend when they aired and thought they were pretty boring. I also remember seeing Ultraman Tiga and I think I was really confused at what was going on so I didn't watch that either, but I remember the catchy thought of the theme song! Would love to see a second part!
The only thing I remember about Funky Cops is seeing a small piece of it (commercial? Actual episode? Who knows) by chance on TV, then for years thinking it was an Elite Beat Agents cartoon
I actually remember Mew Mew Power existing. Not sure I paid enough attention to remember any of the promos. Sadly, my FOX channels didn't come in very well pre-digital television, so I never bothered trying to tape anything off of them.
I only found out about MMP well after it finished airing. Even remember tried searching on my local Fox station to see if reruns were airing, and well ofc they weren't lol. Did actually get to viewing the original Japanese version Tokyo Mew Mew which I finished early this year. Actually a pretty good show even if its not the most complex thing in the world.
MMP was my obsession like 5-8th grade 😭😭 I randomly found an Ep again on old TH-cam around 5th grade and had the best memories watching it with my brother on the big old family TV ~k/2nd grade & playing Sonic adventure battle 2 early early mornings before our mom woke up 😂😂

4Kids was everything to me growing up. The dub of Sailor Moon and Pokémon were my introduction to anime, and I still love Fighting Foodons and the 2002 version of TMNT (the best version imo)
Man I would love to as I grew up on Kix as well. That channel was my life for a good while 🤣. Although I'm not sure if there's any documented cases of lost media from the channel. If there are, do feel free to let me know!
@@MediaSenseiOG I just checked and there’s literally nothing, maybe you could cover S4C lost media as there is a shit ton as they’re archiving practicing is dogshit
Great video... except for you saying "Western audience" as opposed to "USA kid audience" because Latin America usually had their own, mostly uncensored Spanish dubs. Even France & Italy were usually less picky on what anime they'd choose to localize compared to the USA. I am well prepared for a lot of Latin American users here to call you out on a simple mistake, so I thought ahead & made this comment as a warning for what could occur in the comments.
Very interesting! I had no idea. I was mostly going based on English speaking countries since 4Kids mostly did English dubs but you're totally right, it would make sense if other European countries and Latin America had a load of dubs that were uncensored. Good catch. Glad you enjoyed regardless
@@bluebaron6858 That's because 4Kids decided to force their dubs onto them. The only reason Sonic X's French dub is based on the Japanese original was because they got to it before 4Kids did.
@@MediaSenseiOGyou forgot that they helped work on the partially lost U.S. version of Mr. Men and Little Miss that aired from 1997 - 1999. I’m trying really hard to find them so I can upload them and do compilations, etc.
Before i watch i do wanna bring up a piece of not necessarily 4kids lost media but something that was scrapped from one of the shows. Instead of the infamous one piece rap, we were supposed to just get an english translation of the japanese opening "we are" it was cut from the final show for unknown reasons. You can find a low quality recording of it somwhere on TH-cam
A lot of people in the comments are bringing this up so I must have missed it when looking up stuff for this video. Perhaps one to keep in mind for a part two?

I told Lisa Ortiz about the cancelled Precure dub when I meet her and Jason Griffith at Unlock The Con. We said some of the phrases and did some of the poses from the anime
I heard rumors that 4Kids was originally going to translate the original Kinnikuman anime, of which Ultimate Muscle is a sequel to, is that true? I highly doubt it, because of Kinnikuman's controversial aspects, but it sounds interesting anyway.
Interesting. Where did you read up on that? As far as the controversial aspects go, I can't imagine that would've put them off when they could just hack it apart and censor it to fit what they wanted to do (like they often did for other shows 🤣) although I'm not too familiar with the series itself. I only really watched Ultimate Muscle on TV when I was a kid. What sort of controversial things did they do in the show?
@@MediaSenseiOG The controversial things included characters that looked like blackface, and Brocken Jr's father having swastika-adorned clothes. As for where did I read up on that, I can't really remember.
Ah I see. Yeah I can't imagine they'd have been too happy with that sort of thing, maybe they thought about doing it, saw the content of the show and decided to pass after seeing how much work it would be to change the show to fit their needs
I have a theory about the Pretty Cure 4kids dub. I believe that it was not fully made and that probably only a pitch was made. My theory is that they were going to make it but after the pitch was not successful they decided to sit on the ip for as long as they can do no other studio at the time would be able to make their own especially during this time it was becoming popular. So by the time they are not able to hold on to the rights to the show the popularity has already died down. They may in the end lose out on making any money and have waisted the money spent doing nothing but in 4kids eye they see it in the long run that no one else made money. I heard that this practice is fairly common in these industries and I believed that this is something they have done before and was documented somewhere.
That is a good shout actually, I know companies have done that before to keep their hands on certain IPs for one reason or another. I'm interested to see what the supposed pilot or pitch looked like that steered them away from wanting to make the dub in the first place
I say they broke off the contract early with Toei. It rumored licenses go on for 5-7 years and pretty cure was yanKed away from 4kids relatively quicky since they literally produced nothing big for the IP thus canceling their contract I assume
At least we technically have a 4kids pretty cure dub with glitter force from Saban, you remember that? Not blaming if anyone does it was incredibly forgettable.
15:54 UPDATE: The footage for Zoey Hanson’s preview is now partially lost. On February 27, 2024 a TH-cam channel called 4Kids Flashback uploaded a compilation of Mew Mew Power promos. Among them is a 15-second version of Zoey’s preview. The video is called “Mew Mew Power promos - 4Kids”.
Real talk, I had no idea Mew Mew Power *HAD* lost media. I'm grateful that the episodes are preserved at all since I decided to watch it one day and it definitely would have been up my alley. lol
I have the Tiga dvds but I didn’t realize they didn’t include the dubbed versions. Here’s hoping he finds his copies. I’m going to have to look through my old tapes. I know I taped a lot of stuff around that period. 🤔
Sonic X is trash. The characters don’t do anything. They don’t accomplish anything and Robotnik barely does anything. It has barely any action! Oh wait. I’m talking about Sonic Satam.
4Kids's One Piece adaption is pretty legendary though. I showed some of the Funimation One Piece episodes to my family, and after getting through the Arlong Park arc, I showed them parts of the 4Kids version and how wine was changed to grape juice, guns were changed to look like water squirt guns, suction cups were added to spikes stabbed into characters, etc. and they all unanimously said that they would have never watched it for so long if I showed them the 4Kids version instead.
Kind of a pity it didn't find enough traction or success in the west like with Sailor Moon. It was popular in the UK when the Ocean dub aired on POP Girl.
4kids should have made Ultraman more serious like the original and add joke's like saban. They me one of the smart female leader's hateable instead of how she was likeble in Japan.
That intro... there were a couple there I'd forgot about! And yeah, who hasn't heard of Ultraman? Apart from being on Netflix, there's even a crossover with Godzilla!
The only thing 4Kids related I may have on my old VHS recordings would be whatever aired 5mins before or 5 minutes after TMNT aired. As I recorded the series on VHS while I was in Saturday School. that's the only series I had any interest in back then, my older siblings were of the age of the original series, and continued to watch it until its cancellation in 96, by that time I was 6 and was starting to watch the random releases and VHS recordings we had of turtles and the 3 films. So they were apart of my childhood, just not major. As I clearly remember using the turtles as the bad guys for the power rangers to fight as my parents wouldn't allow us to have the villains for whatever reason. Even if we tried to buy them ourselves.
Tmnt 2003 , sonic x , shaman king and they showed ultraman tiga , Kamen Rider Dragon Knight two of my favorite tokuzatsu shows aside from the power rangers franchise by Saban / Disney and now hasbro
If Ultraman was more of a parody of the original, I'm curious why they bothered to dub it at that point and not at all surprised it didn't work out. It's like renaming Pretty Cure to "Glitter Force" with very obvious omissions from the original.
15:08 actually, Mew Mew Power did VERY well, especially for its timeslot. The issue was the fact the show couldn't get a merchandise deal. No merch = no profit. If it got some merch deal, I'm sure 4Kids would've finished the series.
Interesting. I read conflicting information online about how well it did. Some places were saying it did badly and others were saying it did ok but 4kids weren't able to get more episodes after the initial 26 that they ran so I wasn't sure which was actually what happened
Tokyo Mew Mew dubbed did horribly because by that time it DID air, the original was very well known & the changes they were going to make were decried by fans. And then they STILL butchered it.
I have some details about GoGoRiki: One of the producers of the original Russian version actually tried reaching out to 4Kids to buy the rights to GoGoRiki, but nothing came of it. The third dub of the series produced in Canada (after BalloonToons, before the current KikoRiki dub) uses the current names for the characters for voice lines, but the GoGoRiki names for localized text (minus the "riki"), an example being an episode where Losaysh and Kar-Karych play 8 ball GoGoRiki was also aired in Canada on YTV, with episodes exclusive to that network (one being the first episode of the series, The Bench). It also aired on PopUK, but with episodes aired as one instead of three The French dub of KikoRiki was based off of GoGoRiki, with episodes of that being found that the English version lacks, like OlgaRiki's quotable quotes
I'll put in a request for a lost media promo... "One Piece: Secrets of the Seas". It was a special day where they asked One Piece trivia questions that you could answer online to unlock some desktop goodies. One very infamous question has basically made the whole National Anthem thing strike again with its ridiculousness - The question was, "Who gave Luffy his lucky red hat? Was it Usopp, Shanks, or Sonic?" That's how it went - the right answer, one that you'd only know is wrong if you were paying attention, and a completely incorrect answer relevant to a different show. 4Kids Flashback uncovered another promo, "What martial art does Zolo practice? Is it Santoryu, Kung Fu, or Furyoku?" and in the last bit, Zolo's head turns into Yoh Asakura from Shaman King. I recall seeing one on Michael L. Grant's Winx Club site, but it's gone now, and stupid me forgot to archive it. "What is Nami's position on the Merry Go? Is it Navigator, First Mate, or Headmistress?" in the last frame she's dressed like Headmistress Faragonda from Winx Club. I do recall one asking what Usopp's pirate team is named, and one choice was "Teenage Mutant Ninja Pirates" and it had the Veggie Pirates looking like the TMNT, with masks and weapons and whatnot. I really hope the latter two can be found.
The later seasons of 2003 and fast forward aired on CITV but the earlier seasons aired on Jetix. The only Turtles series to air on Kix was The Next Mutation
I wish more influencers like hikayagami were continue to push mew mew new when it came out. Their videos were great for the mew mew fandom back in the day
I know I've seen a few episode of the 4Kids dubbed Tiga online. I recall catching an episode or two when I was a kid and knowing it had to be a parody of the actual show 🤣
I watched 4kids so much growing up and kidswb the channel before that. idk what foxbox is but yeah. I really enjoyed all the shows on there. one I really love no one talks about is cubix. Im sure now id not like it but i remember when i was young i loved that, metabots as well. I thought the big robot stuff was cool thats why i loved power rangers too for the megazord and stuff.
Hoenstly I'm not too offended by Sanji's lollipops. You'd be surprised how many chefs have sweet tooths & use candy to cope with waiting to smoke on their breaks.
Oof... the most recent 4kids flashback episode, they talked to a production assistant that worked on 4kids ultraman tiga... At one point they were given TONS of digibeta masters to that show, and then threw them away 😢
Damn really? That sucks man. That can be the case with a lot of things that become lost. A lot of people don't know what they have and get rid of it and then find out the value of what it is. It's a shame
@@MediaSenseiOGI will probably try to ask if anyone how worked on 4kids funky cops and F-Zero was given digibetas like that and still held on to them too
I know many people clown on things like the lollipop cigerette, but for me thats the true Sanki, its just so much funnier being a lolipop instead of a boring cigarettes. Also as a huge fan of Magical Doremi, i was very sad they didnt rhyme in the original anime and it was just a standard magic phrase. So you can say a lot about how heavily some things were changes, many did put some good thought into the changes.
Can you also another Underrated Block on TLC and Discovery Kids called Ready Set Learn? It’s like Nick Jr, Playhouse Disney, Sprout and PBS Kids Combined. Such as Paz the Penguin, Save Ums, Toddworld, Hi5 (USA), Peep and the Big Wide World, Hip Hop Harry, etc
I still don't understand why 4Kids Entertainment would stopped making more English Dubbed of Mew Mew Power halfway in the series and why can't they just finish the whole series properly but instead decided to make this series a cliff hanger for no reason and the same thing happen to Tia Chi Chasers too.
4Kids never really could get a good magical girl license, probably they wanted to snag one given Sailor Moon's success in the US thanks to the DiC/Cloverway dubs from back in the day as well as the toyline produced alongside it. Like someone else said part of the reason for Mew Mew Power's general failure was that they couldn't find a good partner to sell merch based on the series, I actually remember in terms of ratings the show didn't do THAT bad so the merchandise reason is probably why the dub never completed its full run. Some dubs in other countries based on the 4Kids version actually DID manage to cover the whole 52 episode series, as crazy as that sounds. (French and Hebrew for example) These ones had to come up with their own thing to keep the series in line with the 4Kids edits. Their dub of Ojomajo Doremi (known as Magical Doremi) was slightly more successful in this regard, I actually do recall watching this one and they did manage to secure merchandise rights, there's a commercial for it up on TH-cam. They never finished this one either though, and I think both of these not catching on like they hoped is why they never got to dub PreCure, at least partially.
@@CoffeeFlavoredMilk That is true, as in America, toy sales are actually a factor in whether a show is going to continue (as a lot of cult classic shows have been cancelled for not having toys or having toylines that did not sell well).
Wow I remember that Funky Cops show coming on as a kid, but I too just said "huh...neat." & ignored it as I waited for Kirby & Sonic X to come on lol. I only recorded the latter 2 shows unfortunately.
@@bluebaron6858 It also wasn't Kirby or Sonic, & 4kids even butchered those shows along with One Piece. Wouldn't be until 2013 when I got into One Piece thanks to that awful 4kids dub lol. Good times though.
That Precure segment reminds me a little of the old rumor of a very early Detective Conan dubbing attempt that was going to make its way to Fox; I've seen a few things around mentioning it, and even people claiming to have seen a pilot, but there's no real evidence that anything ever came to fruition; it's not impossible that they _tried,_ though, bc there was at least one magazine scan mentioning it. I don't remember the details but I'm sure it could be found easily enough if you look in the right places, or ask the right people; I don't know if it was 4Kids specifically, but I mean, who else could it have been at the time? I kind of wonder how a 4Kids dub would've even worked, with a series that was a lot more obviously oriented towards an older audience... Localization couldn't have been any worse than what we _did_ end up getting, with the 2000's Funimation "Case Closed" dub, which... as far as localizations go, from what I've seen, wasn't actually all that bad. It's just that it did the series a _huge_ disservice, since the series is very culturally Japanese, making certain things difficult, if not impossible, to pass off as anything else. As for trying to dumb it down for children... yeah no I don't see that being a successful endeavor at _all_ LMAO.
@@bluebaron6858 yeah, that's right! forgot the name for a second. it's a very silly piece of franchise history that certainly was at least conceptualized, but probably never made it very far. you know, on account of all the violent and bloody murder. man, the series was a lot rougher around the edges back then... altho _now,_ since it's so old, the ends are more... _creative,_ shall we say, thereby making things rather twisted instead. It's so interesting to think that they ever even _tried;_ kinda hopin at least part of it exists somewhere, bc I'm super curious of how they mangled it.
I know it's not in the same ball park, but a company called vitello produced a mostly lost English dub of shin chan for the US Fox Kids 2002 season but ultimately did not come to air since Disney bought out fox kids and objected to air the dub since it surprisingly kept in naughty bits, when it aired internationally, that usually get censored in kids anime dub of that era. But with Conan, murder is a whole different ballpark 😂 s@@Neganium
@@bluebaron6858 hm, I don't know much about shin-chan; I do know that sometimes things that fly in Japan wrt children's shows don't always fly in other countries. like guns, for example; I know of at least one explicitly "for kids" cartoon that has several scenes with guns that were absent in the English dub (that curiously never aired in the US; I think it only aired in parts of Malaysia or smth?? dunno; all I know is that it was notoriously Bad lmao). ofc that's assuming that shin-chan _is_ a children's show; it certainly looks like one, but I actually have no idea. God, tho, there's no getting around it with Conan, lmao. Guns, knives, poisons, even _swords_ in some instances. Whoever was in charge of trying to make it "kid-friendly" probably would've keeled over in an instant, the poor guy.
I honestly had no clue they even touched Mr Men. That's such a quintessentially British series to me that the idea of an American dub never crossed my mind 🤣. Did they dub the entire original series or was it a completely separate adaptation for America?
@@MediaSenseiOG both. It was part of its subsidiary The Summit Media group. It dubbed the animated parts but also incorporated live action skits. A lot of 4Kids shows didn't get any home release i remember: Mew Mew Power, F-Zero, anything after GX season 1 and nothing from 5D's. They also didn't release Back to the Sewer.
Oh my god I thought F-Zero was hot wheels for years. I used to love that show growing up but could not remember the name as I think I only got to see three episodes before it stopped airing on tv. I also feel like I could swear that the first episode of pre cure was aired on tv at some point in english but I think if it did it only was once so odds of a recording are slim I think after looking at the themes of that series later in japanese that 4kids pulled it due to it being more mature than any other anime at the time that they had.
With the 4kids F-Zero dub: if other Eastern European countries aired it based on the 4kids dub, they might have only done lektor "dubbing" ("og" sound in the background while one man/woman reads the translation). Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Bulgaria do that a lot (although Poland dubs more properly nowadays [and they really slay tbh])
Interesting. I'm not super familiar with the dubbing procedure overseas so if versions do exist of these shows from other countries that would be really good since it's another language we can translate from to find out the contents of the original episodes
@@MediaSenseiOG Czech republic and Hungary shared the same feed of Jetix, which also had English audio track. And I do vaguely remember F-Zero airing on Jetix. May be wrong and may have mistaken it with different show, but if I am right, then, there is a chance someone recorded it on Jetix and still have it with all three audio tracks. Chances are slim, but who knows what may be waiting in someone's private archive, right?
I always found the situation with Ultraman Tiga odd. Like, 4Kids NEVER released the original uncut version of any show they handled... fans had to literally beg them to release Yu-Gi-Oh and Shaman King and then 4Kids intentionally gimped those discs so they wouldn't sell... ....But for some reason with Ultraman Tiga, they preferred to release the uncut version and bury their own dub. Were they afraid of getting stomped by a kaiju or something? Was someone at 4Kids a closet Ultra-fan? Incidentally I heard a rumor back in the day that the only reason they licensed Ultraman Tiga at all was because there was an Ultraman reference in the Kirby anime and they didn't want it to fly over kids' heads (or alternatively they thought the reference would get kids interested). I doubt this is really the story though.
4kids literally licensed Tiga before the Kirby anime was actually in existence... Apparently the uncut Tiga DVDs were made so older adult fans could buy them. I heard those DVDs apparently didn't sell well 😢 shame they buried the dub cause a whopping 20+ lost dub episodes of 4kids Tiga that may never see the light of day 😭
The original voice actor for Brook from Pokemon said at RamenCon maybe about 8-10 years ago that the FCC or whatever government media group is the reason 4Kids heavily edited imported animation. He said they would finish dubbing episodes and send it in to the FCC or, whoever they were supposed to send it too, and they would send it back to 4Kids with many notes to make extreme edits not only to the dubbed script but also the animation because Saturday morning animation was viewed for children and broadcast censorship is stricter in the US over other countries for children.
me and some friend had been watching the dub of yu gi oh gx and towards the end the dub suddenly stops which really confused us until i looked it up and learned 4kids essentially ditched it to start dubbing the next show 5Ds (which also got the same treatment), leaving the last 26 episodes only available in japanese.
Which in turn sucks since MOST of the GX/5D'S voice actors/actresses are alive and to make it even WEIRDER parts of the Boundries across Time Yu Gi oh movie ARE part based on GX's 4th UNDEAD season since in that movie Yubel still possessed Jaden's physical body while he Yami Yugi and Yusei Fudo are dueling Paradox which in turn Paradox's DUB actor just so happens to be Goku's current English dub actor for that movie. Goku/Sean Schemmel also played Processor Crawler in the first Episode of the GX dub and that 1 duelist with a really BAD MIKE TYSON voice for when that MAD DOG Duelist in season 2 of GX ended up dueling Zane.
I guess no one else did either which is how it's ended up lost 🤣. I hadn't even heard of the show before doing research for this video so I was interested in it
While its true Funimation REDUBBED all 330 episodes of 1 Piece that 4kids made back in like 2012 to 2013 Funimation made MORE Toonami dubs but instead of continuing WHERE 4kids tv left of at Episode 331 then skipped to Episodes 500 to 580. But Funimation NEVER dubbed likr Episodes 581 to the CURRENT last episodes 1300+ Japan has or at least NOT for a TOONAMI dub just for the DVD/Blue ray disc version of it.
So you saw the full 4kids ultraman tiga dub run?!😮 Do remember anything from it or recorded it or know anyone that did record it? Do they sell bootlegs over there?
Bro 3 days ago you talked about both GBA F-Zero games, and how one of them hasnt been released in the states. Now Nintendo puts out a video last night announcing theyre being added onto NSO expansion pack. I think you had an influence on that.
I saw the trailer earlier on Twitter, it's a wild coincidence 🤣. I'll gladly take credit for that though (even though I doubt they saw this), maybe it's a sign we could get a release of the dub after all
@MediaSenseiOG yeah the anime wasnt all that popular back then, but fans would love to watch at least the original unaltered version after not getting a game for so many years.
Basically if a Magical Girl anime in the USA isn't Sailor moon its pretty much doomed to Fail Futari Wa Precure only aired in Canada and still FAILED their as one as for Cardcaptor Sakura 4kids ONLY made 35 OUT of its 70 episodes for its dub release as in 4kidstv actually DID FILM all 70 CCS episodes in Canada but still only got to release HALF of them on actualy Cable TV.
Diskotek realased a good amount of the shows that aired on 4kids fox box. I believe so far they realased sonic x, shaman king, Digimon Season 1, Ultimate muscle, Medabots, Mon Colle knights, Monster Rancher, Fighting Foodons and some of Beyblade.
Funky Cops should be brought back in the reboot, and adjusted the show towards the adult audience so that Adult Swim will be able to snatch up with their money bags for short term to long term success and entertainment.

Well glitter force happened in 2015.
Fastinaiting. So much meddling for that TMNT show later on
It wasn't covered but I have indeed heard about this.
I am definitely feeling nostalgic for the 4kids lost media era. Such a weird time for children’s entertainment.
Those crazy adaptations

I remember When FOX Kids became The FOX-Box!❤️📺🎶👍🏻
Such a catchy jingle
Not according to the millennial anime fandom.
Rip.

That's just what Konami wants with yugioh sadly
Hugo was the Japanese spelling, 4K added the Y themselves. They only changed the running Fusion gag, which was smart since the joke doesn't translate to English.
4Kids were always great at making clever changes that still fit the original material.
@@ashuebot-tabi4449 interesting

As I clearly remember using the turtles as the bad guys for the power rangers to fight as my parents wouldn't allow us to have the villains for whatever reason. One of the producers of the original Russian version actually tried reaching out to 4Kids to buy the rights to GoGoRiki, but nothing came of it.
The third dub of the series produced in Canada (after BalloonToons, before the current KikoRiki dub) uses the current names for the characters for voice lines, but the GoGoRiki names for localized text (minus the "riki"), an example being an episode where Losaysh and Kar-Karych play 8 ball
GoGoRiki was also aired in Canada on YTV, with episodes exclusive to that network (one being the first episode of the series, The Bench). It also aired on PopUK, but with episodes aired as one instead of three
The French dub of KikoRiki was based off of GoGoRiki, with episodes of that being found that the English version lacks, like OlgaRiki's quotable quotes
Why wouldn't the original rights holders have the 4kids version at their disposal???
I'll put in a request for a lost media promo...
"One Piece: Secrets of the Seas".
It was a special day where they asked One Piece trivia questions that you could answer online to unlock some desktop goodies.
One very infamous question has basically made the whole National Anthem thing strike again with its ridiculousness - The question was, "Who gave Luffy his lucky red hat? Was it Usopp, Shanks, or Sonic?"
That's how it went - the right answer, one that you'd only know is wrong if you were paying attention, and a completely incorrect answer relevant to a different show.
Didn't realize there were more crazy ones haha

I still don't understand why 4Kids Entertainment would stopped making more English Dubbed of Mew Mew Power halfway in the series and why can't they just finish the whole series properly but instead decided to make this series a cliff hanger for no reason and the same thing happen to Tia Chi Chasers too.
Mew mew toy issue thing and 4kids went bankrupt during Tai chi chasers

@@bluebaron6858 to be fair I was only around 4 years old when I saw F-Zero for the first time. Never saw it after
With the 4kids F-Zero dub: if other Eastern European countries aired it based on the 4kids dub, they might have only done lektor "dubbing" ("og" sound in the background while one man/woman reads the translation).
Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Bulgaria do that a lot (although Poland dubs more properly nowadays [and they really slay tbh])

Yes the articles for it exist
@bluebaron6858 it was a magazine called Newtype USA
The original voice actor for Brook from Pokemon said at RamenCon maybe about 8-10 years ago that the FCC or whatever government media group is the reason 4Kids heavily edited imported animation. He said they would finish dubbing episodes and send it in to the FCC or, whoever they were supposed to send it too, and they would send it back to 4Kids with many notes to make extreme edits not only to the dubbed script but also the animation because Saturday morning animation was viewed for children and broadcast censorship is stricter in the US over other countries for children.
