I'm mostly familiar with the Viva pinata game more so than the TV show. The show doesn't have many connections to the game outside of the aesthetic and characters. The game itself is a garden simulator where your job is to make your garden appealing to different pinatas. The more your garden improves the more pinatas show up and the batter your equipment becomes. The show was actually being developed alongside the game at the same time by Rare themselves. That's why the video game shares the same animation and theme song as the show. The show can be a little bit hyperactive but it's fun in small doses. As for the game it can be pretty charming and fun but if you're not a big fan of simulation games it might not appeal to you.
Tokyo Mew Mew was actually one of the MOST butchered 4kids anime. They swiched episodes around, completely changed plot pionts, never even finished dubbing it. And by switched episodes around I mean they started with the 12th episode the climax because I guess they thought they had to start at a super intense scene if they were going to get anyone to watch girly show.
tmm was a part of my childhood 😭 the dub annoys me so badly cuz multiple scenes are cut. watching it confused me cuz of the missing scenes. also cuz of the voice acting, they were very annoying

@@naganut9718 Um... any accomplished gourmet chef? Anyone aspiring to seek the ultimate ingredient pantry like Sanji? Smoking can affect the flavor of the food prepared as well due to the residue left on the fingers. Like you can easily lose your job in higher end kitchens due to a smoking habit. This is taught in "Oishinbo", one of the original cooking manga/anime, so being a fictional universe isn't an inherent excuse, either. And he's smoking about the teeniest cigarettes. Not exactly the "cool" factor of Smoker/Chaser's cigars.
@@tomforge614 bruh sometimes things are the way they are because it looks cool. Ya don't need an in depth analysis as to why it is good or bad, sometimes it being cool is enough, and it doesn't ruined Sanji's character so why not
Fun fact: Besides being Luffy in the One Piece dub, Erica also did many voices in the Pokémon dub, including the voice of Hoenn Nurse Joy, Fantina, Bianca, Goh's Rotom Phone, Ash's Leavanny, Ash's Unfezant, Amaura, Aurorus, Sylveon, Pancham, the three Lake Guardians, Garbodor, Tapu Koko, the singing voice of Meloetta, and even Jessie's Wobbuffet (between Sun/Moon and Ultimate Journeys)! The performer of the One Piece rap was Shawn "Freshco" Conrad. Shawn began his career by creating music as the rapper Freshco, which eventually saw him rapping alongside the likes of Jay Z and Notorious B.I.G. When 4Kids offered him the opportunity, Shawn originally didn't want to go to the interview, as he didn't recognize any of the shows that were being worked on. He was given a script that gave a breakdown of the characters, their abilities, and their roles within the Straw Hat Pirates, which he used in creating the well-known theme song. He was the one to incorporate the "YO" that started the rap song as that was a theme at the time and he was attempting to make the rap closer to what he had produced in his career.
Always found it weird how Sanji no longer smoked in the 4Kids dub but ironically his dub voice sounded more like that of a smoker's. Before his voice was actually revealed it was heavily rumored that 4Kids was going to give him a French accent, which as stereotypical as it would have been would have made more sense as even Oda himself said he's be French if he were real, but instead we get a New Yorker. At least him being a chef was spared of being stereotyped unlike every character who wore a cowboy hat (not just Robin, but Alvida and Ace were also given southern accents)
Actually, rewatching Ace, or should I say “Trace”,’s scenes his accent isn’t as explicit as Alvida or Robin’s, I’d even say he sounds pretty cool. It’s there but it’s not very noticeable. Rare 4Kids One Piece win
The French accent would have made more sense given how often he flirts with girls. I'm told the reason they didn't was because Mihawk was introduced that same season, and they couldn't have 2 French characters in the same arc.
Im so surprised and happy that you actually covered Tokyo Mew Mew briefly and actually watched more than 1 episode, but 4kidz absolutely butchered it 😭 so many things were censored (crosses), text completely edited out, bad voices, boob censorship, episode 12 being the new episode 1, etc 😔💔 lets just say 4kidz got their license for the show revoked for a reason lol which is a total shame bc most people who only saw Mew Mew Power didnt even know they missed half the show
I only can say that OP (Waffle) did it because maybe, he has an inner weeb and the girls did catch his interest. This is proven because He had our era´s Hokuto no Ken in front of him, and only he watched der first episode, tried to say something, but left it, like what every normie does with Elitist ubercreations of humankind, how sad. AT LEAST and thanks to God, Waffle didn't did der obnoxious coomer untershmench comment about the show's director, so one positive point, but darn, one of the 4chad (4chan, not 4kids) elitist top notch multimedia franchise just ignored because OP being >Normie. PD: Poor OP, if he watches the godzilla and gamera modern anime his eyes would melt, since he didn't liked DK's 1st episode's rendering, taking in consideration that 3d gets better and better with each episode's pass. But yes, objectivelly DK 3d is good.
I love Sanji’s voice in the 4kids dub “I love a girl that treats me like dirt! Hey! Gorgeous! You remember me right? Any chance you free Friday?” “Try backing it up, sword bwoy.”
I actually wish I got into Yu-Gi-Oh! much earlier but I didn’t get into the series until I heard about the “tragic news” in mid 2022. Context: The franchise’s creator (Kazuki Takahashi) tragically died in a rip current and his body was found in the Okinawa sea last year. I wonder if Conner knows about this.
@@ScalesthelizardwizardConsidering all the times we saw characters doing heroic sacrifices in both the Manga and the Anime, it’s fitting that Takahashi at the very least gave his final breath on a heroic note. It’s still tragic though. The man was 60, only 3 years older than Stephen Hillenburg (Who died at 57)
Was obsessed with Kirby Right Back at Ya at the time. It stopped airing when I was 5/6 and I, for some reason, thought Sonic X was the cause of this (another show I actually liked at the time). My dumb kid self got so mad that I decided that I was done with the franchise (at least for the time being), and that it was time to check out the Mario franchise as revenge for this sin. And that, my friends, is how I discovered the Mario cartoons.
If you mean Pegasus in Yugioh, I think it's more he died in the manga and for some reason survived in the anime (both versions not just 4kids given he shows up again in GX)
@@Geno746 If it was One Piece, a lot of people could fall into that category, as it was less they died as they 'went to the dungeon' (their version of 4kids Shadow Realm work around) most notably Nami's mom who instead of being shot in the head.... Arlong pointed threatingly at. Also probably Pell, but he survived in the manga so I don't think that counts, even if it seemed like he died taking the nuke out of Alabasta.
Kuina from "One Piece" supposedly just broke her arm permanently instead of dying to explain why Zolo had to shoulder their goal alone. Then there's Alister Phoenix from "YuGiOh GX", if I remembered his name properly. They tried to say his father was kidnapped instead of killed (even needing to remove the body from a couple scenes with an obvious outline as a result). And I'm sure there are some other cases for better or worse.
I actually think everyone was making a big stink a bout Pegasus' brush-off of dying in YuGiOh, since in the actual anime lore, after Yugi Moto and his internalized alternate personality Yami Yugi had to use clever tactics against the cheating AF Pegasus, Good ol' Peggy died when his millennial eye was ripped out of his head, I think at least....Probably to keep him from abusing the hell out of it to deceptively cheat at the duel monsters game, especially since the duo of Yugis cant loose...generally to the narrative, yet Seto Kiba had to cheat early on so Yugi had to begrudgingly forfeit, till later...but anyways, in the "4 Not-Adults" localization, Peggy's body guardsmen lift him up by the arms and drag him out, with his head bent downwards, and I don't remember if anything was said to allude to the fact that he was actually dead or just unconscious.....
3:51 I swear my old VHS of the first few pokemon episodes...Brock said "When life gives you lemons you make lemonade. When it gives you Rice you make Rice balls." And it was english dubbed.
cause it did. This manchild is referencing a popular meme where he calls them jelly donuts the first time they're introduced on-screen and physical edits made when the show switched from 4kids to being dubbed by the pokemon company in-house.
If you're wondering about all the weird accents, in Japanese there's a lot of emphasis on dialect, how you say a word is very important. We don't really have that in English so instead they give characters accents. Joey speaks in a rough and rude way in Japanese, so his Brooklyn accent is supposed to reflect that.
Zolo in the 4 Kids dub was one of the few highlights to the point where him screaming at Luffy is considered better than the Funimation dub. Yeah, that's what people actually say; I love it!
I remember that one former 4Kids employee talked to ANN on a podcast and revealed that One Piece was one part of a package, with the other piece being Shaman King. I'll let you guess which one they cared more about. One Piece was knackered (obviously) and was heavily promoted through their brokered cartoon block, Shaman King may have came and went (like, appropriately, a ghost) on the other hand, but had been admired by Disney so much that it took most of the schedule across the European Fox Kids/Jetix cablecasts during the '00s.
however conner is right somehow despite the terrible decisions (the sanji Lollipop definitely comes at the top of my list *grins* ) it managed to build a fanbase here but the priate rap is *not* a terrible decision oh yeah!!!!!gonna go watch that opening now love it!!! oh yes ANIME FAN GIRLS FOREVER!!!!!
I would also argue that most people outside the U.S. also hate them because they were the ones who had the international license for the anime, so many countries had to dub anime like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! from the 4Kids version instead of the Japanese original To be fair, I grew up with the Neutral Spanish dubs of Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! which were made using the 4Kids version and at least they had great voice casts and direction, it's a shame that Yu-Gi-Oh! had some many instances of censorship
Yep.. 4kids were pretty stupid a good bit of the time, if not always. If you ask me, if you want kids to learn that guns are indeed bad, you leave them in the hands of the bad guys, to deliver that message loud and clear, you don't remove the guns.
Heck, Andrew Rannells is in a way a 4Kids veteran, he was in a handful of shows dubbed by 4Kids: One Piece as a Young Zoro/Zolo, Tokyo Mew Mew as Dren, Sonic X, Cubix, TMNT (2003), Pokemon, Yu Gi OG GX, Chaotic, and the 4Kids Dub of Shaman King.
The funniest thing about Sanji is that in the 4Kids dub, he sounds even more like a smoker than he does normally despite losing his cigarette. Also, technically "Zolo" isn't a change, it's more of a different interpretation. In Japanese the name ゾロ can be translated as "Zoro" or "Zolo" because in Japanese our "L" and "R" sounds come from the same characters. The name Zolo was likely chosen, however, because of potential issues regarding Johnston McCulley's famous character Zorro.
Y'know 4Kids was indeed great and all, Well from what I've heard of since i wasn't born until 2009 but i can tell it made a lasting impact but I'm deeply sorry but i just have one problem with it and i can put it with my own thought on it "4Kids: Our censorship was sometimes stupid and pointless" Not to say the block was bad in any way, shape or form since i know I'd like it if i was in that time period but i just thought of it sometimes as a bit stupid and dang all me and my friends think about when 4Kids enters the conversation is: "The censorship was smart in general, But not in context of the episode" But still tho even with these minor inconveniences with it, I say they did good at making a part of anyone's childhood while it lasted Also who could forget the most iconic thing that came from 4Kids: "These donuts are great, Jelly-filled are my favorite. Nothing beats a Jelly-filled Donut!"
There's a youtube channel where they managed to make an uncut Sonic X english dub, with all of the original background music, all deleted scenes put back, etc. But TH-cam later on copyright strike the videos. 😑
I remember Viva Pinata. It was pretty alright. The original game was actually made by RARE of a people. And its a sort of life Sim where you tended to a garden and attracted said piñatas to live there line making your own little ecosystem. It seems harmless enough ir you're into the genre and it was popular enough to have a sort it series even having a party game. The show itself was your typical slice of life random adventures style S.M.C. series
I wish they'd make a new one. The games were a fun diversion, and a great break between playing OTHER games... a palette cleanser of sorts. Sadly, like Every other Rare property, it's essentially Dead.
Chaotic plot. The kids who play the card game online can transport to a place called Chaotic where they can play their game by actually turning into the Creatures in the cards. They can also go to the world where the Creatures, who are actually real, live, and scan them to get new cards.
I literally did start thinking rice balls/onigiri could be referred to as donuts when I was 10 or 11 from that point. Next thing you know, sushi could have been hamburger fish salads USA! USA! USA!
Say what you want but english dubs of anime will always have a special place in my nostalgia filled heart. I still remember watching the 4Kids dub of Ojamajo Doremi, that they renamed Magical Doremi, with my brother when we were kids and I still wonder why they didn't dub the second season and left it at the sad ending of the girls losing their magic powers
I mean, that's also the struggle of "Tokyo Mew Mew" where they only dubbed the first 26 out of 52 episodes. An unfortunate lean towards an audience of "boys", I suppose. Licensing is also a bit of a crapshoot as anyone in the industry can tell you, like how Pokemon and Winx Club bounced around between channels and networks in the United States. Just some unfortunate situations with no true resolution. I'm not even sure if Ojamajo Doremi so much as streams on Crunchyroll or similar services.
@@tomforge614 and they made episode 12 into episode 1 for...reasons. I guess to start with an action scene? Either way it completely threw the pacing off bc in episode 2 the entire cast was suddenly gone 💀
@tomforge614 basically they made episode 12 as the first episode and did the whole "flashback to the beginning" thing where you know what happens at the end so now they show you the beginning cliche. It was a dumb decision
I remember reading the entire Tokyo Mew Mew manga back in 7th grade. Man, what a nostalgia trip. Also, one Piece is well into the 1000s of episodes now. 😅
You know, people keep talking about how long "One Piece" is, but people rarely recognize that is trails somewhere between 3-30 episodes behind "Detective Conan/Case Closed", ans both are dwarfed by the series "Sazae-san" (never localized) that easily has more than 2200 episodes, having aired consistently since the 1960s.
Ah yes, 4Kids...like it or not, I'm glad we're in the timeline where they gave us the Pokérap and the One Piece rap. Both are masterpieces that belong in the Louvre. And I give kudos to Cartoon Network when they continued the anime on Saturday mornings tradition, as I first watched the Pokémon anime because of early weekday morning reruns of Black/White Best Wishes and Saturday morning new episodes of the XY episodes. Pre-rebrand Boomerang on the other hand got me exposed to the much older episodes. Cartoon Network also showed Tenkai Knights which I liked too...even though it was meant to promote toys and I never got the toys. The origin of the present form of onigiri dates back to the Heian Period as “Ton-jiki.’ Ton-jiki was brown rice packed firmly into an egg shape and distributed to domestic servants as a token of appreciation during events at imperial or noble households. After the Heian Period, onigiri became convenient food, eaten as rations at the time of the Sengoku Period, and also as a bento during farm work. Onigiri were originally made out of sticky, glutinous rice, but at the end of the Kamakura Period, ordinary rice started to be used. The present form of onigiri, with nori wrapped around it, developed along with processed, rectangular seaweed laver, whose use spread widely during the Genroku Era in the middle of the Edo Period
I grew up with the 4kids one piece and I loved the voices for luffy and "Zolo" and couldn't stand the funimation ones when I started. It grew on me and now I'm like 650 episodes in
Well most 4kids shows aired in the UK on different channels if i recall: TMNT 2003, pokemon and YUGIOH was on CITV, mew mew power was on POP GIRL, sonic X aired on JETIX, maybe MAX actually come to think of it most animes aired on MAX or POP yes anime is popular in Europe
I'm honestly surprised you haven't mentioned about Winx Club, but instead brought up Cubix which I have no idea about. This is a magical fairy cartoon made in Italy, where 5-6 girls go to Enchantix. The antagonists are evil witches, and I honestly think it was a pretty good show. However, I don't have much more investigation to this, but I've defilently watched like half of season 1 during the summer at that point. Maybe you can cover Fox Kids, since it is similar to 4Kids, except it has less ridiculous censorship.
and there are now 8+ (9th incoming) seasons, two spin-offs, three 3D films, and a Netflix live action adaptation. plus i think 5 (maybe 6?) English dubs 🫣🫣
@@candyfuntime184 we don't talk about the live action version unless it concerns the girls removing Sam, the male fairy from it, animating him and then allowing Bloom to roast them in both ways....after Stella charges them for fashion faux pause.
i didn't grown up with 4kids when i was young and from the couple time i had went to it i really only checked it out to watch sonic x, , which while not perfect is still one of my favorite cartoons to this day despite the flaws i do like 4 kids anime dubs, i honestly get an enjoyment out of cheesy anime dubs in general there's this charm to it i can't really explain
I played very little of Yugioh outside one of the Gameboy games and never had any of the cards but as a magic the gathering player that show was amazing I watched most of the original series religiously
The One Piece dub is the peak of 4Kids censorship because at least back then, most of the 4Kids edits were annoying, but tolerable stuff, the context of the story is still the same, changing rice balls into donuts is dumb, but that alone won't ruin the story. Until they got into One Piece, where their changes managed to make the story much worse even if you ignore stuff like Sanji sucking on a lollipop and no more blood, many episodes and entire story arcs were cut, Laboon and Little Garden were removed completely, which would have caused major plot holes if the dub kept going.
Oh one piece... That show got massacred back in the day. I get it, can't show blood, can't show tabaco, can't show guns... But then they take out the giant whale with an small island built inside of him, they take out the two giants Luffy and the others meet. They remove Mr. 3 who attempts to kill Nami, Vivi and Zoro by turning them into a giant wax pieces on a giant wax cake. Kids would have LOVED seeing all that! But I guess they had more things to worry about, like how to add Chopper into the opening rap.
The 2003 show was intended to be a return to form for the Turtles, spurred on by original co-creator Peter Laird. He had always disliked the changes the 1987 show made to the brand and took the opportunity afforded by the reboot to undo them. That’s why you don’t have Bebop and Rocksteady, why Splinter is not Homato Yoshi, why April is not a news reporter, and why you have the Utroms instead of the derivative villain Krang.
Okay, you were way off base about Chaotic. The characters weren't tied to their creatures, they just temporarily transformed into them in some sort of more advanced of the game that takes place in virtual reality. They could also access the world of Perim, where the creatures from their cards exist and live their own lives, and they use their scanner devices to scan creatures, weapons, locations, spells, etc. in order to add whatever they scanned to their deck. What happens in the game is inconsequential to the creatures of Perim, all they know is that Chaotic players come into their world, scan their data and play these silly games where the humans become them and see the humans more as a minor distraction or nuisance and have their own affairs to look after.
Mew Mew Power. Changed a number of things in editing, never had Season 2 dubbed and if they did, they would have had to work around those episodes where Zoey/Ichigo transformed into a Cat and was about to be bathed by Mark.
Idk, they removed all trace of Japanese writing and culture but _kept_ all the stalkerish moments between Ichigo and Kish, including on-screen kisses lmao
Viva Piñata was actually my favorite of them all. It really had some great jokes, lovable characters and wacky storylines. I especially loved the theme song and the online safety videos.
In the early 2000s, imagine a fusion of Nickelodeon, 4Kids Entertainment, and Cartoon Network to create a creative powerhouse inspired by beloved characters like SpongeBob SquarePants, delicious Krabby Patties, and jelly-filled donuts. This collaboration would bring together their unique strengths under the leadership of CEO Alfred Kahn, creating an empire reminiscent of the synergistic Austro-Hungarian style.
A lot of Saturday morning cartoons were just straight up repurposed/dubbed anime. Dating all the way back to the 80's. Animated cartoons and anime are literally transferrable. The only difference is the style in which they are presented. Many "traditional" viewed American cartoons were actually produced in overseas studios that were also responsible for "traditional" anime style cartoons.
The Viva Piñata games are actually really great. They're made/owned by Rareware and Microsoft Kind of a garden sim mixed with creature collector Actually a decent bit of fun and addicting
For as much as we cringe at their questionable localization choices 4kids was still just as integral as Toonami was for birthing an entire generation of weebs!
I don't know about *just* as integral, but I gotta admit it's pretty close. Pokémon and YuGiOh probably would've still done fine by virtue of the games (though certainly not as well), but Toonami is what got Dragonball big in the west, and that's Dragonball. Also Sailor Moon to a lesser extent. They weren't the first to have a major airing of Sailor Moon around that time, but they definitely kept the train rolling after that original dub stopped. And Toonami just kept going harder longer, Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), Yu-Yu-Hakusho, Gundam, Naruto, Bleach, and this was going on well into the 2000s. 4Kids had like 2 (3 if you want to count One Piece) *really* impactful ones, and apart from that it was pretty irrelevant.
The first ever irritation of the turtles was a serious and a little edgy comic but due to its immense popularity and the chance to get a tv show about it they had to dumb it down
I'd like to see a part 2 on this because I know there were a lot more 4Kids shows that I grew up with that I had watched via WB kids, like Ultimate Muscle and FZero.
6:52 Is it really? Yugi's like, 15-16 years old. He's not 12, and the Japanese VA for Yugi is a guy, too, with a pretty similar range. In fact, Dan Green's Yugi sounds younger than Shunsuke Kazama's, especially as the series goes on, to difference him from Atem.
As cringey as some of 4kids edits were and the voices/accents/lines they used, I still have fond nostalgia for them. After all, they brought us both Pokemon and Yugioh which were both massive successes here in the U.S. Without their contributions, anime wouldn’t be as popular over here as it is now.
I grew up watching the 4Kids version of Pokémon dub in Neutral Spanish and at least the dub's dub was pretty well done, in fact Pokémon's LatAm Spanish dub managed to keep its voice cast consistent for over its entire run. One Piece 4Kids version was also dubbed into LA Spanish, but the voice cast was so good that many years later when Toei gave OP a much faithful dub many of the dub actors who worked in the 4Kids for characters like Nami, Zoro, Sanji, Chopper and Robin reprised their roles

i felt so nostalgic for these shows. I would watch them every morning. My favorite was yu gi oh, one piece and sonic X. Funnily enough my brother tried to get me to stop watching them and watch the japanese subbed versions instead.but i always go back. Though sadly around the end of 4kids' lifespan i was arrested so I couldnt watch much more.
the One Piece Rap is that good that legendary Anime Abridger Scott "KaiserNeko" Frerichs did a remake with Gilbert Gottfried narrating it, to which fans made multiple versions with Gottfried's voice timed to the actual rap.
I really enjoyed Viva Piñata as a kid, and the intro theme was lowkey a bop to me. It really was a show about nothing but as a kid all I saw was bright colors and loud sounds and that's what hooked me... also was VERY surprised how they outright showed cannibalism when I got older 😂
Mew Mew Power annoyed tiny child me so much with its BIZARRE airing order that I looked it up on TH-cam, only to discover a _foreign_ version with over 50 episodes. That's how I discovered what anime was. Thanks for putting me on a permanently brain destroying path to disappoining my parents, 4kids 💀 (seriously tho I had a terrible OC for that series and everything lmao, it was such a fun gateway drug)
a similar thing happened to me funny enough. i just got tired of the channel always looping the show at episode 18. so i looked it up on youtube... and watched the rest in japanese. and that's how i got into anime as a whole.
I mean 4kids was alright, but the censorship issue was a problem. Rumors also circularited, saying the CEO of 4kids resigned from getting A LOT of hate mail.
What… what do you mean 4Kids didn’t edit much of Tokyo Mew Mew? I get it, he said he had never heard of it and probably wasn’t gonna watch the original just for the video, that’s totally fair. But 4Kids completely changed the order of episodes not even airing the actual episode one as episode one but instead doing a “you’re probably wondering how I got here. Let’s go back to the beginning” and cutting the number of episodes clean in half. With the original having 52 episodes and mew mew power having 26- only 23 in the US. They butchered it to smithereens and it really broke my heart and made the “dub” unwatchable and not even an enjoyable cringe watch. (Sorry for my rant. Tokyo Mew Mew was the first manga I ever read.)
When it comes to the shows in this video, I'm mainly into Mew Mew. I have nothing against the other shows, I'm just mostly into Mew Mew. It's a personal preference
Fighting foodons! When I mention this no one ever remembers it. The theme song I remember well. When I was a kid the boys in my class and I would make up our own characters and fight them out. Ah the memories
I remember watching some of those 4kids series on Australian Television in the mid 2000s. They aired on a morning weekday block alongside a few non 4kids shows that is known as Toasted TV although many Australians know their predecessor Cheez TV a bit better.
I mainly only watched TMNT on FoxBox/ 4 kids growing up. Didn't get into YGO till 5ds. Anyways, it does feel crazy with what TMNT was able to get away with compared to other shows. The only things 4 kids did to TMNT was pull an episode from being fully animated and shelving s5 (later got a dvd release) for fast forward back to the sewers.
ash was already a huge name change,I can't imagine it being anything else,if it was up to a different editing company his name would probably ended up being edgar or something even stupider than that,no thanks, just keep it as ash
Yugi isn't twelve he's the same age as the others (15/16). He's just short. Or more likely, stylistically presented as shorter than his actual height to demonstrate his meekness.
According to a video by Red Bard, 4Kids purchased One Piece as part of a deal/package and one of the reasons was due to the anime’s popularity. Understandably, this anime was too “over the top” for a Saturday morning style dub and the changes done were egregious. Imagine an universe where this company ended up purchasing Higurashi, or Attack on Titan, or Demon Slayer, or even Saint Seiya.

Sanji sounded like a stoner general💀💀
The French accent would have made more sense given how often he flirts with girls. I'm told the reason they didn't was because Mihawk was introduced that same season, and they couldn't have 2 French characters in the same arc.

Wasnt there a part where a major character died in an arc and the 4kids just said he was injured and never seen again?
If you mean Pegasus in Yugioh, I think it's more he died in the manga and for some reason survived in the anime (both versions not just 4kids given he shows up again in GX)
@regiman222 I think it might be One Piece but maybe it wasn't a major character but minor one. I don't actually remember though

Usually, when someone speaks in a Kansai dialect, the best way to localize it is with a southern accent.

I actually felt bad for 4Kids when Toei forced them to dub One Piece.
Toei and 4Kids shouldn't have worked together in the first place. We would've been spared from the chopped-up version of 'One Piece'.

People hate 4kids because most of the censorship that they did was patronizing and childish.
I would also argue that most people outside the U.S. also hate them because they were the ones who had the international license for the anime, so many countries had to dub anime like Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! from the 4Kids version instead of the Japanese original

After the Heian Period, onigiri became convenient food, eaten as rations at the time of the Sengoku Period, and also as a bento during farm work.

And it was waaaay more serious and adult than the 2003 cartoon. They brutally killed Shredder in their first appearance.

"I can do whatever I want because I'm voiced by DAN GREEN!"
Not anime, but TMNT 2k3 still rules!
I remember watching chaotic; that was my favorite show on the network. I wish they could make a comeback of that show.
How dare you not mention Winx Club
Cubix: Robots for Everyone, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Sonic X alongside Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Bolts and Blip, The Spectacular Spider-Man and Digimon Fusion were the last shows to feature on Saterday morning cartoon block they all appears in the last Saterday morning cartoon block called Vortexx which is own by Saban Brand (The company that made Power Rangers).
The very last show that appeard was Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal (Episode 89 - Darkness Dawns) on September 27, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. EDT
i felt so nostalgic for these shows.
Trust me, dinosaur king his different when you actually watch more of the show. In one season some people just fucking straight up die.
Wonder what happened in the 4kids dub..
@@michelcoolguy1701 they didn't make a four kids dub. After season 2 they gave up dubbing the series. There's a few more seasons in japan
I learned that nightmare is voiced by Andrew Rannells the actor from Book of Mormon, Matthew in Big Mouth, and in that musical falsettos
I mean, it's kinda worse in the games where it's a farming sim that encourages sacrificing pinatas to be eaten by other pinatas.
The CW 4kidz was my reason to get up early on Saturday morning 😂
We need part 2
He forgot the legend that was winx
Oh man, the nostalgia! I remember those Saturday mornings glued to the TV, watching 4Kids anime with their "unique" voice acting and CGI. Good times!
Mew Mew Power annoyed tiny child me so much with its BIZARRE airing order that I looked it up on TH-cam, only to discover a _foreign_ version with over 50 episodes.
That's how I discovered what anime was.
Thanks for putting me on a permanently brain destroying path to disappoining my parents, 4kids 💀 (seriously tho I had a terrible OC for that series and everything lmao, it was such a fun gateway drug)
a similar thing happened to me funny enough. i just got tired of the channel always looping the show at episode 18. so i looked it up on youtube... and watched the rest in japanese.
and that's how i got into anime as a whole.
why does the dinosaur kid sound like ash ketchum from indigo leauge-advanced
and that green hair villan sounds like jessie
I mean 4kids was alright, but the censorship issue was a problem. Rumors also circularited, saying the CEO of 4kids resigned from getting A LOT of hate mail.
Kids tv executives never realizing that kids don’t like stuff being cater too.

True.
It's a personal preference
its ok no one is juding you for that
awww that's more than okay, don't worry at all
Fighting foodons! When I mention this no one ever remembers it. The theme song I remember well. When I was a kid the boys in my class and I would make up our own characters and fight them out. Ah the memories
Can you just do the Weird World of Disney TV Animation at some point?
I would love him to do a video on jetix
Hey hey hey...leave Brock alone man's a Chad. Uses his trusty frying pan as a drying pan for any stormy weather 😂
my man finally got sponsored by capcom
Dinosaur king gets dark by season 2 when the full story is revealed.
FINALLY YOU TALK ABOUT YU-GI-OH
Mew Mew Power was based on the manga Tokyo Mew Mew. Plus, Dinosaur King was based on an arcade cabinet in Japan
I remember watching some of those 4kids series on Australian Television in the mid 2000s. They aired on a morning weekday block alongside a few non 4kids shows that is known as Toasted TV although many Australians know their predecessor Cheez TV a bit better.
Dedede’s 4kids voice is literally perfection and I won’t hear otherwise
16:45 what about how TMS removed sll the text so the localization tesm could add their own and the 4kids team didn't bother adding new text
Meaning it's all left blank
4:23 Not only is that NOT the context, that's not even the same episode.
Yeah 12:48 I honestly, back then, I loved Sanji now that i listen to it again it's off like wow 😂😂😂 and good impression i liked it
I mainly only watched TMNT on FoxBox/ 4 kids growing up.
I wonder if Ash would have had a different name if not for 4Kids
ash was already a huge name change,I can't imagine it being anything else,if it was up to a different editing company his name would probably ended up being edgar or something even stupider than that,no thanks, just keep it as ash
Here's the thing. I know I watched it as a kid.
I only remember the horse was played by Dan Green. That's it
Yugi isn't twelve he's the same age as the others (15/16).
I mean, DiC did a dub of Saint Seiya in the early 2000s, and it might as well have been a 4Kids dub the way it was handled.
Can you do a Winx Club seasons review video please?
