  • Watch as my multipurpose bow drill bow performs 3 tasks. It top boards a fire roll, gets scraped into some highly ‘ferro rod ignitable’ tinder, and then puts the spin on a bow drill spindle. It produced a nice “through the bottom of the divot” ember that easily fired up my tinder bundle.

The “Rant” is basically a clarification of what this channel is all about. Then watch as my multipurpose bow drill bow performs 3 tasks. It top boards a fire roll, gets scraped into some highly ‘ferro rod ignitable’ tinder, and then puts the spin on a bow drill spindle. It produced a nice “through the bottom of the divot” ember that easily fired up my tinder bundle.

When i first found your channel and saw you make a fire roll from nothing but cotton snd ash i thought it must be fake but i tried it anyway and was amazed that it worked. Lit my log stove with nothing but fire rolls for a month you sir are the real deal

Hi David! As mentioned elsewhere in the comments, there is a certain satisfaction in making fire from friction. Developing the skill is extremely rewarding and worth the practice. Blessings to you, friend!

As usual excellent demo. Don't pay any attention to the naysayers. You're doing a fantastic job. Thank you and may the Lord continue to bless you and yours.

I will always appreciate the skills you’ve taught and demonstrated so many times for us over the years. I’ve always tried to absorb the knowledge and apply it as best I can to my own environment and situation. You’ve often told us that you’re a hobbyist, but if I ever found myself in the backcountry and my life depended on getting a fire started, I would rather have you with me in that scenario than most of the TH-cam “survivalists”. Thanks for the content, and God Bless!

Friction fires are so rewarding. It’s nothing like matches or ferro rods. It’s a workout

I ended up buying one of those smiths sharpening stones on your recommendation and it’s fantastic.

David, I’ve seen you bow drill a lot but don’t recall seeing that one that is flat, but great idea (as usual). That bow drill reminds me of a crude bow and arrow from early Native days. Imagine being able to hunt with a bow, (longer of course) and make fire with it too. David, how do you think of new ideas after 10 years?

i thought you are supposed to use different type of wood each for spindle & fireboard?

    • @DavidWestBgood2ppl

I always use the same branch for both spindle and fireboard unless I’m showing you that you don’t have to.
