Multipurposing My Bow Drill Bow

- Watch as my multipurpose bow drill bow performs 3 tasks. It top boards a fire roll, gets scraped into some highly ‘ferro rod ignitable’ tinder, and then puts the spin on a bow drill spindle. It produced a nice “through the bottom of the divot” ember that easily fired up my tinder bundle.

Making A 5pc Bow Drill Set From A 2x6 And Trying It Out

The “Rant” is basically a clarification of what this channel is all about. Then watch as my multipurpose bow drill bow performs 3 tasks. It top boards a fire roll, gets scraped into some highly ‘ferro rod ignitable’ tinder, and then puts the spin on a bow drill spindle. Multi purposing our gear is an excellent practice !
Didn't see it coming, the bow being used as a board for fireboard 😮
Thanks ARAW!
When i first found your channel and saw you make a fire roll from nothing but cotton snd ash i thought it must be fake but i tried it anyway and was amazed that it worked. Lit my log stove with nothing but fire rolls for a month you sir are the real deal
It’s still unbelievable, magical. TY!
Hi David! As mentioned elsewhere in the comments, there is a certain satisfaction in making fire from friction. Developing the skill is extremely rewarding and worth the practice. Blessings to you, friend!
Great point!
As usual excellent demo. Don't pay any attention to the naysayers. You're doing a fantastic job. Thank you and may the Lord continue to bless you and yours.
Thank you, I will!
I will always appreciate the skills you’ve taught and demonstrated so many times for us over the years. I’ve always tried to absorb the knowledge and apply it as best I can to my own environment and situation. You’ve often told us that you’re a hobbyist, but if I ever found myself in the backcountry and my life depended on getting a fire started, I would rather have you with me in that scenario than most of the TH-cam “survivalists”. Thanks for the content, and God Bless!
Thanks friend!
Great video Mr west I appreciate you sharing 👍👌🔥
Friction fires are so rewarding. It’s nothing like matches or ferro rods. It’s a workout
Fun, though.
I ended up buying one of those smiths sharpening stones on your recommendation and it’s fantastic.
I’ve gotten a lot of use out of them for many years.
Heck yeah! That's a great idea and you made it work!
the bow can also be a throwing stick, club, digging stick, short spear.
Good points. TY!
another awesome video! Thank you
Keep on Keepin' On!
Good demonstration David, thanks for sharing , YAH bless !
My pleasure!
great video
Thanks for the visit!
David, I’ve seen you bow drill a lot but don’t recall seeing that one that is flat, but great idea (as usual). That bow drill reminds me of a crude bow and arrow from early Native days. Imagine being able to hunt with a bow, (longer of course) and make fire with it too. David, how do you think of new ideas after 10 years?
It’s fun. TY!
Looks like your bike been parked for a while, mine too, been sitting in my living room for about 5 years now.
20 years.
Great video as always David with the David West channel..!! I do have a question for ya.. this weekend i am going to teach my 12 year old how to maake a pump drill for making fire (or drilling boring ole holes..) and i was wondering if youve ever made one on video..?? I havent seen it if you have.. if not there is a great video idea for you..!! Send my royalty checks to... 😂😂😂😂
I don’t like them. People have asked me to make one many times over the years.
@@DavidWestBgood2ppl I do agree.. not my favorite either, however I have a goal to teach him every technique I know, so here goes.. lol😂
i thought you are supposed to use different type of wood each for spindle & fireboard?
I always use the same branch for both spindle and fireboard unless I’m showing you that you don’t have to.
Mr. West, great job!!! 👍 wondering what kind of knife is that and where did you get it?
Mora Companion Stainless, Amazon.
David, to get our first bow drill ember, do you recommend starting with a 2x4 etc so it’s all dry? Thanks
No, They can be almost unignitable sometimes. See my bow drill playlist.
