I kind of feel bad for asking now I have a license, but 0:58 is it always 3 seconds? 3 seconds on a 50mph road takes a lot more anticipation than a 30mph road.. (damn you clingoe hill, keep causing me issues on blackbox braking)
You would hope it gives you more than 3 seconds on a 50mph road but as far as I can tell it seems around 3 seconds on clingoe hill. I've been meaning to properly time it for ages now. You really have to brake hard if you don't want to run a red light there.
So this wasn't on my test, i've been driving for a while now and I went past the white line slightly where 3 quaters of my car were behind the line on a traffic light controlled roundabout, am I going to get in bother for it because it's really freaking me out. The reason I did it is I didn't want to cause a traffic jam therefore my thought process was that I would go through as the lights won't change however as soon as I was going to go through to my exit, the lights went amber so I just stopped behind the traffic light I was behind. :/
The example in the video is correct, you should not wait on the stop line or advanced cycle stop lines. It's important to get cars in the middle so when the lights go red the cars in the middle can finish their turn and help traffic flow. They won't get stuck on the pedestrian area when the pedestrians have a green man as they would have time to move before that happens. However if the exit road is blocked everyone should wait before the stop line.
i was scared of points on my license as I'm a new driver and i believe i crossed red light accidently. I never passed red light before. it's first time. it was cloudy while driving then weather changed suddenly and direct sunlight affecting my vision same time I set sun visor and made slow move when I saw it was red while passing. thought to reverse back but then I could hit other car. so I drove slowly. red light camera junction, so scared if camera catch me. do they send me ticket or not?
I think you'll be ok, I had something happen to me today and honestly it's driving me insane, I stopped behind the white line however 1/4 of my car was over as it was a controlled roundabout where when I was gonna go through it went to amber so if I went it would have caused an obstruction for the other drivers so I just stopped behind just in time but part of my car was sticking out.
@@jackjackson3125 I hope so I'll be ok. I'm a new driver so a bit scared. Also you're right sometimes we have to take unusual action to protect ourselves and others and avoid accidents. Thanks for sharing your experience today.
The same thing happened to me recently, I had time to stop but thought it would have been safer to proceed. As my front tires passed the line, the light turned red, I am fearing for my life now since I'm a new driver, just have to wait 2 weeks to see if I get a NIP.
@@milanpaudel3103 anticipation is best but traffic lights in uk change quickly get amber and in two seconds turn red. Recently I knew most of the cameras on small cities and junctions not active... Not in govt budget. But yes if you're in London... Need to be careful
If you don't have time to stop at amber you can continue. Don't cross the line when it's red though. If you have already crossed the line and the lights go red you should continue and finish the junction. You should not start on red and amber, you should wait for green.
@@ConquerDriving Thank u very much, so If I am one second away from the stop line when the amber is lit, I should keep going. What's the rule of thumb for such timing?
Is it really possible to block the pedestrian crossing after the cycle box as you're waiting for oncoming traffic to clear while turning right? I've always thought that was an automatic test fail.
As long as you're only waiting for oncoming cars when you're turning right that's fine. Your exit road must be clear, that's the important bit so you can go when the car is lights go red and people in the middle finish.
Hey Richard I have a question regarding approaching a red traffic light, let say it's red and there are a decent number of cars ahead waiting, what i do right now is release my foot from the gas and let the car slow down without break than switch second gear, my problem with this is by the time I'm close to releasing my foot from the clutch im close to the car and need to press the clutch again, what if i do something like, i remove my foot from the gas, let the car slow down naturally, switch to second gear when the time comes but i keep my foot press on the clutch till im close to the car to decide if i stop or move, is that consider coasting and be a fail on my exam?
It's not bad coasting unless you're pressing the clutch too early. Some coasting is a necessary part of driving a road car. I recommend you come off the gas, press the brake as needed to stop of time, clutch down when the revs are around 1000rpm and don't worry about the gears until you have finished slowing down. 1st gear if you're less than 5mph and 2nd if you're more than 5mph. Changing down gears as you have said is only distracting you from making good smooth use of the brake I'm guessing.
05:31 you might be right when you're talking about the test, but in reality that's not fine to be there, you'll get stuck on it. this should not be encouraged no need for it.
Hi so if I stop before the both stop lines and pedestrian crossing, will this be ok. Until the car in front has cleared the junction and there is enough room to go into
Yes, but I still wait on the pedestrian crossing that is passed the stop line when green if my exit road is clear and I'm only waiting for oncoming cars (same as yellow box). It's not written in the highway code but I do it as I will be gone by the time the pedestrians get a green light.
Yes as when the lights change red you will be able to finish. Don't wait their if your exit road is blocked. You should only wait there if you are waiting because of oncoming traffic.
Queded traffic is normally the culprit. When driving you should leave junctions clear and only proceed when your exit road has room for you. The only time you can wait in the middle of a junction is when your exit road has enough room for your car but you are turning right and waiting for oncoming cars.
Hi mate can you help me I m a bit confused as a new driver at the minute 3:49 as you can see it happens today,it's was a big queue and i had green while I was trying to move forward I got stuck in the middle lights turned red there was few pedestrians crossing the street after they crossed I drove forward even if the lights was red ,I don't know if I will get a ticket for traffic lights as there was no camera, but I already pass the first traffic lights but as I said I got stuck in the middle and the second traffic lights turned to red, could help me if I will get ticket? It was a huge queue in that day and I seen many people getting stuck in the middle of the road ps (I went back to see if there is any traffic lights camera )😀
So way she give me a serios fault, if I was over the line when the traffic lights became amber and red when I finish passing? I didn't want to brake harsh when I so the Amber lights, thinking that she will fail me. But she did it anyway 🤷
The examiner must have felt that you had time to stop. I'm sorry to hear you failed, try and keep practising and I wish you the best of luck next time.

How to know when you're 3 seconds behind a traffic light?
It's a guess. Go for slightly less than what you think 3 seconds is.
So can I go through if its turning Amber? This is the only thing that's scaring me for my test.
Yes, you just can't cross the line when red.
I'm sorry but I don't know the parameters of traffic light cameras.
5:28 is the green car allowed to wait behind the black car or should it have waited at the traffic lights until the black car turned right?
I knew that the Amber light also indicates STOP, r u telling that we can continue with the AMBER light?
@@ConquerDriving Great, thank you. Passed my test today. Your videos were really helpful. Thank you.
Hey Richard
I have a question regarding approaching a red traffic light, let say it's red and there are a decent number of cars ahead waiting, what i do right now is release my foot from the gas and let the car slow down without break than switch second gear, my problem with this is by the time I'm close to releasing my foot from the clutch im close to the car and need to press the clutch again, what if i do something like, i remove my foot from the gas, let the car slow down naturally, switch to second gear when the time comes but i keep my foot press on the clutch till im close to the car to decide if i stop or move, is that consider coasting and be a fail on my exam?
It's not bad coasting unless you're pressing the clutch too early. Some coasting is a necessary part of driving a road car. I recommend you come off the gas, press the brake as needed to stop of time, clutch down when the revs are around 1000rpm and don't worry about the gears until you have finished slowing down. 1st gear if you're less than 5mph and 2nd if you're more than 5mph. Changing down gears as you have said is only distracting you from making good smooth use of the brake I'm guessing.
@3:38 I stopped at the second line as soon as I saw amber. There was no slow movin traffic I think.. is that a fail?
That'll come down to the examiners judgement based on how much time you had.
So to clarify you are aloud to wait in the pedestrian crossing when turning right? Pls reply
Yes as when the lights change red you will be able to finish. Don't wait their if your exit road is blocked. You should only wait there if you are waiting because of oncoming traffic.
@@ConquerDriving what do you mean by if your exit road is blockedv
Queded traffic is normally the culprit. When driving you should leave junctions clear and only proceed when your exit road has room for you. The only time you can wait in the middle of a junction is when your exit road has enough room for your car but you are turning right and waiting for oncoming cars.

I sold that in November.
The traffic lights apply to the stop line. Once you have passed it you should continue across the junction if it's safe.
