I'm Australia we drive on the left and never use the handbrake at a junction but tbh it's good practise because leaving the clutch fully in at lights and junctions shortens the lifespan of the clutch sooo

The one way sign is small, yes, but there are various other clues to tell you it's a one way street (no centre line, all parked cars facing the same direction, give way markings all the way across the road at the end, right turn arrow on right hand side of road. There's also another one way sign on the left at 57 seconds.)

I'm from Germany, and honestly if baffles me how people that have as little trust and control over their car are even allowed to try the test. If my teacher thought I could miss the fact my car turns off, he would have sent me back to theoretical lessons. I get that those students weren't the best driving learners he had, but honestly its kinda cruel to even let them try. Just tell them that they're not ready...
I agree, some practical knowledge needs to count before letting someone attempt to pass the test and be it with a fluke. You need to set a minimum amount of practical driving lessons in hours before letting someone attempt. I believe a viable EU threshold should be set at 20 hours of lessons before letting someone attempt to pass the test for their license
@@alxbkers Minimum hours are just stupid. Many instructors take advantage and do extra hours just to get some more money . Driving licence is already really expensive and should not cost more, most kids pay it out of their own pocket and dont have alot of money...

In Norway, if the final test personell have to intervene in any way by either speech or using the breaks it's an automatic fail and you get to drive back in shame.
Its a fail here too but you continue with the test, i failed 4 minutes into my first test due to pulling out on someone on a roundabout, an older lady indicated left so i assumed she would go left. Obviously i was wrong and got a fail.
I failed in the parking lot. Someone was backing out and didn't see me so my instructor honked my horn for me. Instant fail lol. Passed the 2nd time just fine

Im in Canada and I accidentally missed a turn so I instinctively took the next turn.. Luckily it isn't a driving fault but my observer was like "wtf are you doing" oops
I had to drive down a couple blocks and couple turns and stops. Didn’t have to parallel park or reverse at all while driving an automatic. The test took less than 10 minutes if that cause of covid in 2020 and they didn’t want me in close proximity of the driver instructor for long. Easiest exam I’ve ever taken. The written exam was harder
mine was where you pull into a parking spot, back out, back into the spot, pull out, do a three point turn and come to a stop at a sign. the entire test took place in a parking lot
I find it weird that the hand brake is used so often during the exam, where I come from there are only 3 times you may place your hand on the hand brake, after starting the car, after parking it or to assist in starting to move while on a steep hill climb
It is good practice to use the parking brake as It usually dosn't come with any draw backs and is helpful in the following situations > On a Hill as you mentioned > On any slight gradients to prevent your car rolling back > To prevent Dazzling road users behind at night with your brake lights > To rest your feet for a stop at the lights etc

I remember the dipsh*t that was examining me, wrote me an additional fault for not signaling to the right whilst I was literally seconds away from finishing the exam, and while I was parking on the side to finish the exam, and there wasn't a single soul that'd benefit from the signal, additionally, nobody signals in the situation I was. And as a result, I didn't pass the exam as that one additional fault meant I made too many mistakes, and it's been 4 years now and I still haven't got my license, yet I'm driving daily and never been in an accident, haven't even nicked a single car. These exams are pure hell.
I remember when I passed my test, I failed the first one which made me feel like shit, but the second one was on the hottest day ever recorded in the Netherlands. If the warmth didn’t made me sweat, then it was the nervousness. But I passed it with no errors, best summer I’ve ever had
I failed my first because of an opposite car turning right at the round'bout didn't use the fking indicator and I was assuming he was going straight ahead.
I failed my first one because it was raining and my wipers were only on the first setting. Then after I had to pull over to get them correct I hydroplaned into a guys yard while doing a three point turn. Had the same test two weeks later on a 60 degree and sunny day and passed. Went from worst feeling ever to beat.

It's funny how my test (like was probably the case for most people) felt like the most stressful thing ever and having to make sure not to make a single error felt like walking on a tightrope backwards, but the week following the test the driving felt so natural and stress free, even though my skills were basically the same. I still made small errors, but I knew I could deal with them. In the test it felt like a do or die situation xD

I want to point out, how lucky the people in the UK are that they are being tested like that, it's true that it looks kinda strict, but that way, you don't have drivers that aren't ready to go out on the roads. Here in Greece, we get tested on deserted small streets with almost no way to fail the test apart from parallel parking and a weird maneuver with the reverse. I really wish people in my country got tested on open roads like the ones I see in that video. Also, another thing I'd like to point out is the driving courtesy people in the UK have, like, if my car suddenly slowed down the way the one in the video did, people behind me would be cursing their hearts out, wishing me death, and some sexual activities with my mom. Last thing I'd like to point out is the pedestrian line scene, the truth is that the pedestrians weren't really visible (at least in the video), props to the instructor for seeing them (here in Greece 99% of the drivers don't stop for pedestrians)
From Pennsylvania, U.S. I took my driver's test in the back lot of the DMV. Had to maneuver through a path of traffic cones and parallel park in a space large enough for two good sized cars.
Trust me, you don't want this. We've got even strictier exams in lithuania, and everyone's speeding, doing all sorts of reckless crap, and constantly making a mess of themselves on the road. These insanely strict exams haven't done jack sh*t, it's just giving drivers PTSD and make them less likely to drive at all. In fact, it's making THEM much worse drivers, as they're not allowed to drive on their own, which is where all the skills are built.
ngl people make it look like driving a manual car is insanely difficult. A great tip for anyone really struggling with changing gears is to let the gear go to a neutral position and then from there guide your hand to the gear you need

Why do they use the hand brake all the time? Damn I didn't have the same level when I passed my driving test. My monitor wouldn't give me a date until I knew how to drive perfectly, without making any mistakes. You can clearly see they dont have the level to be on the road alone.
If I remember correctly, in some countries if you stop for more than x seconds you have to put the handbrake because otherwise the rear brake lights bother those behind you, maybe this is the case, in my country, or at least in my city, the practical test is easy, on an authorized track, go straight, do a U-turn, go back and park in reverse between two cones.
Ugh I can feel the nervousness of the student, I did so many mistakes learning to drive but although in the end I passed the driving test after failing for 2-3 times lol

Passed with 1 minor on 1st try, the key for me was to challenge myself as much as possible in my lessons because you know these are the situations you’ll be put in by the tester, the only thing I was dreading was to here the guy say “now we’ll perform a parallel park just over here” but it didn’t happen

If i remeber when i was a learner driver, i think it was a good reset, kind of collect yourself before starting off again. Most drivers only use had brakes if theyre at a jinvtion or light for a while or a hill start
It’s because a lot of cars over there are manual transmission so when you are at a stop you have to push both the brake and the clutch in at the same time. Therefore if you let off the brake the car will roll whichever what the road slopes. I drive a manual and I don’t bother with this I just make sure to keep my foot on the brake
I noticed that drivers from the UK always pull their handbrake on at every stoplight/crossroads etc. Why’s that? We in Europe only use it when we park or are on a hill.
Iv always being told handbrake at stops when u can Incase someone drives into the back of the car .. safer crashing into a object that will move with pressure rather then foot on the break it’ll be like hitting a brick wall haha.
Most cars in the US are automatic transmission I’m pretty sure ? so it’s a lot easier to start the car on hills, you roll back or stall if you don’t use the handbrake in a manual transmission car, if you’re inexperienced anyway
These are all learner drivers. You get taught to put the handbrake on when a pause becomes a wait, I think partly to give them a little break from feeling like they're in control of the car. People stop doing this once they've passed their test and just hold it on the brake or hold it on the bite, unless you know you'll be stopped for a while. (i.e. You've stopped at a light that's just turned red, you're third in the queue, and there are several lights in the cycle before it's your turn again.)
For me, they told to do that to avoid hitting the car in front of us. Learners sometimes release the brake when stopping completely and forget to free the gears, and when they do that, they will automatically release the clutch and thus hitting the car in front of them. Pulling the handbrake when stopping is the safest way to avoid accident especially for learners.
I’d say 8/10 drivers rarely use their handbrake in the UK after passing unless it’s to exit their vehicle. I use mine at red lights occasionally if I won’t be getting far when the light changes, it’s just easier. The drivers in this video haven’t passed their test yet so they’re all very hesitant and nervous - it’s a good watch though because we’ve all been there.

You are supposed to use it at the majority of stops, simply because if someone shunts you from the back, you won't roll forward and hit the car in front, or the pedestrian crossing who you stopped for.

Holding your foot on the footbrake is fine, until you get smacked into by a speeding car, then in the collision, you panic and your foot comes off the brake, you roll forward and clonk into the car in front, or the pedestrian. A handbrake is a fail-safe, whilst it does mean your car will absorb more energy, because it won't propel forward, it means it won't roll forward and hit another car, or hit a pedestrian crossing in front of you, or someone stood in front of your car waiting for traffic to stop in the next lane. Realistically, if you are going to be stopped for more than just a few seconds, (i.e stopping as the first car in the queue at a roundabout give way) then you should use the handbrake.
Isn't it a parking brake. Since I never use it while on the road. And not even when parked because they can freeze during the winter. I'm from the Netherlands, guess that makes a difference.

It may probably piss off your observer, which would probably be detrimental to you passing the testw but it is NOT a fault by itself.

mine was where you pull into a parking spot, back out, back into the spot, pull out, do a three point turn and come to a stop at a sign. the entire test took place in a parking lot
There are so few modern cars that have manual transmissions. I don't understand why it would required anywhere.

I find it weird that the hand brake is used so often during the exam, where I come from there are only 3 times you may place your hand on the hand brake, after starting the car, after parking it or to assist in starting to move while on a steep hill climb

It is good practice to use the parking brake as It usually dosn't come with any draw backs and is helpful in the following situations
> On a Hill as you mentioned
> On any slight gradients to prevent your car rolling back
> To prevent Dazzling road users behind at night with your brake lights
> To rest your feet for a stop at the lights etc

I remember the dipsh*t that was examining me, wrote me an additional fault for not signaling to the right whilst I was literally seconds away from finishing the exam, and while I was parking on the side to finish the exam, and there wasn't a single soul that'd benefit from the signal, additionally, nobody signals in the situation I was. And as a result, I didn't pass the exam as that one additional fault meant I made too many mistakes, and it's been 4 years now and I still haven't got my license, yet I'm driving daily and never been in an accident, haven't even nicked a single car. These exams are pure hell.
I remember when I passed my test, I failed the first one which made me feel like shit, but the second one was on the hottest day ever recorded in the Netherlands. If the warmth didn’t made me sweat, then it was the nervousness. But I passed it with no errors, best summer I’ve ever had

I failed my first because of an opposite car turning right at the round'bout didn't use the fking indicator and I was assuming he was going straight ahead.
I failed my first one because it was raining and my wipers were only on the first setting. Then after I had to pull over to get them correct I hydroplaned into a guys yard while doing a three point turn. Had the same test two weeks later on a 60 degree and sunny day and passed. Went from worst feeling ever to beat.

Some new eco cars cut out the engine when you sit idle, so when you stall (likely on stationary) sometimes you cant tell, especially if stressed.

nice to see people learning in standards. Much harder to learn driving if you're not comfortable with it, but it keeps you more aware of not just other things but what you have to do with the car itself

It's funny how my test (like was probably the case for most people) felt like the most stressful thing ever and having to make sure not to make a single error felt like walking on a tightrope backwards, but the week following the test the driving felt so natural and stress free, even though my skills were basically the same. I still made small errors, but I knew I could deal with them. In the test it felt like a do or die situation xD

I want to point out, how lucky the people in the UK are that they are being tested like that, it's true that it looks kinda strict, but that way, you don't have drivers that aren't ready to go out on the roads. Here in Greece, we get tested on deserted small streets with almost no way to fail the test apart from parallel parking and a weird maneuver with the reverse. I really wish people in my country got tested on open roads like the ones I see in that video. Also, another thing I'd like to point out is the driving courtesy people in the UK have, like, if my car suddenly slowed down the way the one in the video did, people behind me would be cursing their hearts out, wishing me death, and some sexual activities with my mom. Last thing I'd like to point out is the pedestrian line scene, the truth is that the pedestrians weren't really visible (at least in the video), props to the instructor for seeing them (here in Greece 99% of the drivers don't stop for pedestrians)
From Pennsylvania, U.S. I took my driver's test in the back lot of the DMV. Had to maneuver through a path of traffic cones and parallel park in a space large enough for two good sized cars.
Trust me, you don't want this. We've got even strictier exams in lithuania, and everyone's speeding, doing all sorts of reckless crap, and constantly making a mess of themselves on the road. These insanely strict exams haven't done jack sh*t, it's just giving drivers PTSD and make them less likely to drive at all. In fact, it's making THEM much worse drivers, as they're not allowed to drive on their own, which is where all the skills are built.
ngl people make it look like driving a manual car is insanely difficult. A great tip for anyone really struggling with changing gears is to let the gear go to a neutral position and then from there guide your hand to the gear you need

Why do they use the hand brake all the time? Damn I didn't have the same level when I passed my driving test. My monitor wouldn't give me a date until I knew how to drive perfectly, without making any mistakes. You can clearly see they dont have the level to be on the road alone.
If I remember correctly, in some countries if you stop for more than x seconds you have to put the handbrake because otherwise the rear brake lights bother those behind you, maybe this is the case,
in my country, or at least in my city, the practical test is easy, on an authorized track, go straight, do a U-turn, go back and park in reverse between two cones.

Passed with 1 minor on 1st try, the key for me was to challenge myself as much as possible in my lessons because you know these are the situations you’ll be put in by the tester, the only thing I was dreading was to here the guy say “now we’ll perform a parallel park just over here” but it didn’t happen

If i remeber when i was a learner driver, i think it was a good reset, kind of collect yourself before starting off again. Most drivers only use had brakes if theyre at a jinvtion or light for a while or a hill start
It’s because a lot of cars over there are manual transmission so when you are at a stop you have to push both the brake and the clutch in at the same time. Therefore if you let off the brake the car will roll whichever what the road slopes. I drive a manual and I don’t bother with this I just make sure to keep my foot on the brake

I noticed that drivers from the UK always pull their handbrake on at every stoplight/crossroads etc. Why’s that?
We in Europe only use it when we park or are on a hill.
Iv always being told handbrake at stops when u can Incase someone drives into the back of the car .. safer crashing into a object that will move with pressure rather then foot on the break it’ll be like hitting a brick wall haha.
Most cars in the US are automatic transmission I’m pretty sure ? so it’s a lot easier to start the car on hills, you roll back or stall if you don’t use the handbrake in a manual transmission car, if you’re inexperienced anyway
These are all learner drivers. You get taught to put the handbrake on when a pause becomes a wait, I think partly to give them a little break from feeling like they're in control of the car. People stop doing this once they've passed their test and just hold it on the brake or hold it on the bite, unless you know you'll be stopped for a while. (i.e. You've stopped at a light that's just turned red, you're third in the queue, and there are several lights in the cycle before it's your turn again.)
For me, they told to do that to avoid hitting the car in front of us. Learners sometimes release the brake when stopping completely and forget to free the gears, and when they do that, they will automatically release the clutch and thus hitting the car in front of them. Pulling the handbrake when stopping is the safest way to avoid accident especially for learners.
I’d say 8/10 drivers rarely use their handbrake in the UK after passing unless it’s to exit their vehicle. I use mine at red lights occasionally if I won’t be getting far when the light changes, it’s just easier. The drivers in this video haven’t passed their test yet so they’re all very hesitant and nervous - it’s a good watch though because we’ve all been there.
Will we ever see a pins driving faults compilation vid where he mucks up his own driving as he drives by himself normally. That would be a good vid as no ones perfect and im sure if he keeps his dash cam on he will record some eventually.

You don't have to use the handbrake at every stop, just where you could potentially roll backwards and if waiting for a longer period of time.
You are supposed to use it at the majority of stops, simply because if someone shunts you from the back, you won't roll forward and hit the car in front, or the pedestrian crossing who you stopped for.

Holding your foot on the footbrake is fine, until you get smacked into by a speeding car, then in the collision, you panic and your foot comes off the brake, you roll forward and clonk into the car in front, or the pedestrian.
A handbrake is a fail-safe, whilst it does mean your car will absorb more energy, because it won't propel forward, it means it won't roll forward and hit another car, or hit a pedestrian crossing in front of you, or someone stood in front of your car waiting for traffic to stop in the next lane.
Realistically, if you are going to be stopped for more than just a few seconds, (i.e stopping as the first car in the queue at a roundabout give way) then you should use the handbrake.
