A lucky kid from Nebraska and a lovely young lady from Tennessee chatting together. You can tell they both realize how lucky they were to be in the places in life at that time. It's such a great interview of celebrities who were still grounded. Wish we'd see more of this now.
Many of today's celebrities feel self entitled and they deserve everything they have. In fact, they feel like they had to wait too long for the fame they have. No humility and no sense of hard work.
They were both not afraid of hard work. And of course they had the raw talent to succeed - and the belief system it took to carry on. Their generation did not believe in giving everyone a 🍭 for just existing !! You fell down , stop crying and get back up !
This is from when Dolly Parton was starting to become the well known star that she is. But she became something more than that over the years. She became America's angel. Her personality is inviting and jubilant and he talent is phenomenal. But you can tell that if she never became a star and never left her small hometown in Tennessee she would still have been just as important and inspiring to all that knew her just as she is to us today.
I saw a video in which a person in another country encountered her in a small pub when she was traveling abroad and the small band asked her to sing a song. She gracefully accepted and did an impromptu performance which was near studio quality. That is the mark of true talent.
High respect for both Johnny and Dolly, two class acts. Johnny departed our world to soon, I’m glad I grew up watching him on late night, there truly was nobody better!
I was almost to young but I do remember Johnny's Moontang episode. The more I learn about Dolly the more I love her and old country, and dislike all this new noise.
The thing about Dolly...is I can't stop smiling whenever I watch her speak or perform. She does have a very bright light in her soul that draws you in...
Dolly Pardon is a musical genius. Seriously. She has composed thousands of songs, many of which she wrote for famous singers and the songs became #1 Hits!! She is absolutely BRILLIANT and has such a kind, loving soul. A true class act and a National Treasure!❤❤❤❤🙃🙃🙃❤
I think the mental agility she demonstrates in her lyrics is a product of equal parts intelligence and truth. Each one facilitates the other. That's why she has a catalogue of thousands of songs.
When working as the very first female banquet waitress for Chasen's in Beverly Hills, I had the awesome pleasure of meeting Dolly Parton and spending some time with her. The event was the 1981 Roast for Burt Reynolds. Sat at the table assigned to me was actress Loni Anderson and I was standing next to her when she was introduced to Burt Reynolds who came down from the head table specifically to meet her. After we waiters had served the food and the Roast had begun, we were banished to the kitchen. But soon after we entered the kitchen, Dolly Parton joined us. She asked us if she could hang out with us because she couldn't stand being with all the "stuffed shirts" at the event. Of course we said "yes" and we had the best time with her. Although I can't recall our exact conversation, only that she was hilarious and had us in stitches, I will always remember her friendliness and graciousness to us which was a far cry from how other "stars" treated us. Although the event female guests and the waitresses had to share the same restroom, our Chasen's boss, Ronnie, had warned us before the event not to speak to any of the guests unless spoken to first by them. However, as a famous "star" from a current TV show stood at the mirror reapplying her lipstick, we were shocked to hear her disgustedly say to another actress, "I can't believe we have to share a restroom with them!". As an actress myself hoping to one day work in film, I always wished I would get a chance to meet this well known actress on equal grounds so I could tell her how rude and hurtful her comment had been to us. Disappointedly I never got that chance but I will always remember the kindness and goodness of Dolly Parton. She made our night and we were even more impressed by her when a "bomb scare" was announced right before the end of the event and she expressed great concern for our safety. Although all the movie stars were able to evacuate the building, none of the wait staff were allowed to leave and we were told that we had to stay to do the cleaning up. Dolly was as horrified as we were to hear this and didn't want to abandon us but as she was soon ushered out by security, she had no other choice and we were left behind. Mercifully for us there was no bomb!

I love, love, love that lady. My kids learned to read because of the beautiful soul, Dolly. Funny, smart and downright charming to everyone she meets. She has a special way of making everyone feel special! Thank you and I love you Dolly.
Did this bring tears to anyone's eyes like it did for me? These are 2 exeptional people here. Dolly could not be any sweeter, down to Earth, or more humble for the mega-star she is. She does so much for charities where it counts, and starts her own when she sees a need. As for talent... she suprises everyone and is blessed with more talent than most people could handle. Johnny is so gracious and always a gentleman. What a role model, always calm and polite. I can imagine how he must have felt when Dolly played the song she wrote for him... basically attributing all of her massive success to Johnny. He probably wasnt expecting that, and was probably taken with emotion during the song. But! In the true perfection of the craft developed over many years.. he lightens the moment with an unexpected creme pie turning the sublime into the ridiculous, in a way that only Johnny can. Was that ride worth the price of admission or what!
Wow ... that was GREAT. So great to see them together at the apex of their careers. Johnny WAS "late night TV" ... no one will EVER be close to his talent. Dolly is just so down to earth & real. So glad I was able to see this moment on YT.
Hi Mark how are you doing. I hope you are safe and in good health. I'm Maria from California, looking for a new friend and i saw your pic here. I hope you don't mind, thank you.
I can only imagine the struggles she and her family went through to survive. All the blessings to her, to all who never give up and choose to shine their light into this harsh reality. A true angel on earth!
Right but would her family be so musical if they grew up with the internet, tvs, streaming platforms.? They created their own entertainment, honing their skills from a young age and learning from their elders. There obviously was no lack of love in that house.

@@wgsmcw2012 She still has a show in Branson and a rodeo dinner in a place called Dolly's Rodeo Dinner or something like that in Peogion Forge Tennessee (USA, North America, Smokey Mtns, Mason-Dixon line)
Dolly Parton knows that looks without brains are nothing...
Dolly your heart is out of this world XXXXXXL!
She lets out of this world love in. 👍❤✌
Simple Man. Yes she does and I need her to stick around for another 100 years!
@@Military-Museum-LP 😊👍
What a beautiful thank-you! She never forgets or fails to appreciate those who helped her when she was a beginner.
Hello 👋how’re you doing?
A lucky kid from Nebraska and a lovely young lady from Tennessee chatting together. You can tell they both realize how lucky they were to be in the places in life at that time. It's such a great interview of celebrities who were still grounded. Wish we'd see more of this now.
Born in Iowa and nurtured in Nebraska. A treasure to the nation. As is Dolly. Neither of these stars will be replaced any time soon.
There’s no comparison with the stars of today, they are so fake and think they are above everyone else 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
What a humble, warm and authentic human being
I saw a video in which a person in another country encountered her in a small pub when she was traveling abroad and the small band asked her to sing a song. She gracefully accepted and did an impromptu performance which was near studio quality. That is the mark of true talent.
Ya I think the video you are talking about is the one where she is singing in a pub in Co. Kerry, Ireland.
@@simpleman283
As good as she is at Country, she’s even better at Bluegrass!
@@bodarville2510 Even more to love. 👍
It was "those damn cigarettes" he called them.
He was 80 when he passed tho right??
The thing about Dolly...is I can't stop smiling whenever I watch her speak or perform. She does have a very bright light in her soul that draws you in...
OMG she is such a sweetheart!!! More people need to be like her.
Hello Jennifer, How are you doing?
I think the mental agility she demonstrates in her lyrics is a product of equal parts intelligence and truth. Each one facilitates the other. That's why she has a catalogue of thousands of songs.
I still get teary eyed. She is the best.
Hello Becky, how are you doing?
She’s so dang talented. It’s like music just flows out of her brain
Perhaps as much authenticity, sincerity, talent, beauty, and charitable spirit has never been embodied in one person so gracefully.
Wow. That’s about the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen on this show
When working as the very first female banquet waitress for Chasen's in Beverly Hills, I had the awesome pleasure of meeting Dolly Parton and spending some time with her.
Wow! Great comment. I love Dolly and am always happy to learn new things about her. I’m not surprised though. She is a genuine person.
wow. Thanks for sharing all of that!
Great story and thanks for sharing.
Janet, I love love love your story. Thank you so so much for sharing that.
Thank you for sharing your memories @Janet Harris.
She’s able to turn her accent into an instrument. This is impressive.
Pure total class. So glad I lived in a time to see it on a daily basis. Part of me weeps daily that it has disappeared.
@Paul Rogers All aboard on the Starship Nostalgia to take us all to Planet Vintage. Classic commercials included. No assembly required. Mobile devices prohibited. Playing in the mud like children strongly encouraged.
Thank you for a beautiful comment, I appreciate the love and support of my music
I’ve always love Dolly Parton. She is a class act.
Dolly is Gods gift to humanity and she came in a wrapper that some would’ve called sinful. She’s always taught us all unconditional love!
This lady fills me with joy EVRY TIME I see her. She truly is a national treasure.
Johnny felt just like a friend. I was young when he was on, and still in school, so his show was too late for me, but when school was on break and especially summer vacation I'd hardly miss an episode. Dolly is a sweetheart.
What a knock out! So smart sweet and talented! Drop dead gorgeous as well!
She has always been so nice and kind. Also photogenic. She was 33 here and looks 22!
And now she's 75 and looks 45
I like Dolly but she doesn't look 22 at all. She looks 33, and that's completely fine.
She's a great human being with a great heart. God Bless Dolly Parton.
As for
talent... she suprises everyone and is blessed with more talent than most people could handle.
Yes. I remember seeing it the first time, and rewatching it now. Beautiful and memorable gesture. Johnny was clearly overcome. And deeply touched.
He really did, didn’t he? What a pro, probably didn’t want to cry, so made a funny joke instead!
Dolly will forever be a sweetheart. What a special person. No wonder Porter Wagner didn't want to let her go!!
Wow ... that was GREAT. So great to see them together at the apex of their careers. Johnny WAS "late night TV" ... no one will EVER be close to his talent. Dolly is just so down to earth & real. So glad I was able to see this moment on YT.
What a complete genius, the complete package, and it starts with her kindness. Dolly is truly once in a lifetime.
My God, what a class act Dolly is.
Hi Mark how are you doing. I hope you are safe and in good health. I'm Maria from California, looking for a new friend and i saw your pic here. I hope you don't mind, thank you.
@@dollyparton5897 thank you
I can only imagine the struggles she and her family went through to survive.
Only heard of Dolly when I was young and never seen her until this show. What a fantastic personality she has, makes you feel good just looking at her and listening. For sure the world needs more Dolly Partons.
...But there's only one.
What an adorable song!🥰 Dolly is so precious and I love that she and Johnny seem to have such a funny and kind friendship.💕
Absolutely fantastic!!!! Dolly Parton is a wonderful gift God has given to us.
Incredible... song writing.. playing... conversation... humour.. respect.. empathy...
Well she used her own melody from Coat Of Many Colors
Her singing brought tears to my eyes. Bless Dolly Patton's heart ❤!!!
She’s so charming, beautiful and talented! ❤️
Johnny Carson is someone who makes celebrities feel like normal people and breath the clean farm air. There's no doubt he was a friend to many of them.
