Admittedly, I used to kind of resent Jocko Willink from a distance. His whole brand of EXTREME responsibility felt pretty unhealthy to me, as someone who lacks a lot of natural discipline. I kept trying to white-knuckle my way through life, and I kept getting frustrated when I couldn't maintain extreme routines. I always felt ashamed that I wasn't an overnight SEAL. But over the years, I have learned how to pair Jocko's teachings with some of the don't-operate-out-of-shame elements of counseling, and I've learned how to take life one day at a time. And it's a path that's way more effective at inducing change, and I now appreciate Jocko as a pole on the spectrum of life change, rather than the dude I gotta be tomorrow. He's also gotten way funnier and more down to earth lately!

+Grady Smith What I found most fascinating about Jocko [first time I've seen him] was his grasp on leadership, and the weight of morality and all that. Meanwhile not appearing to grasp Potus' use of Twitter as a tactic, using the corrupt media and establishment's own weapons of narrative control back on them, stood out. So I think your observations on the extreme discipline/responsibility may show it a bit incomplete in being able to deal with some of the mess in poltics and media. Even though highly admirable and no doubt effective in military, I do think back home in the swamp it's going to take a scrapper.

    • @tonysilva2060

Problem is why does one have to tie and going to foreign soils and killing foreigners as part of developing discipline and character? When the only thing that does is damage an angel the human Spirit potentially Beyond repair and then at that point what does it matter that one has discipline? A psychopath can have discipline, a serial killer most definitely has discipline. So on the whole, ultimately what does it mean? Is he suggesting that you have to participate invading foreign soils to develop discipline and character and successful future? No I wouldn't have an issue or take issue with any of this if it had nothing to do will taking legal action against people on foreign soil., because then it's really just about developing discipline and character through other means that don't require the initiation a force against others. Furthermore show me how it does it has not been car purchase monopolist interest the benefited or those that were forced to participate and taking risks to life and limb on the battlefield as well as regular civilians? Show me through a means by which we can measure the outcome of war that benefited the people as opposed to corporate interests?

@@JasonOfTGA I think it's because he uses more Sun Tzu and Machiavelli in his reasoning while Trump uses Alinsky. All books on tactics, politics, and leadership, but the approaches are radically different. I'll refer to Sun Tzu specifically since I'm more familiar with it than Machiavelli, but they're similar enough for you to assume I'm talking about either. Sun Tzu is top down with delegation, while Alinsky is bottom up. Sun Tzu also advocated engineering situations where you can have overwhelming force while Alinsky engaged in direct action to create conflict.
So, to Willnik, Trump antagonizing media types doesn't make sense to him because it seems pointless and I'll admit, if I were in Trump's position, I would think the same and wouldn't engage. However, Alinsky advises ridicule and to "keep the pressure on." So, he trolls the media and high-enough profile politicians to make them angry and make dumb decisions like Warren's DNA test. Defensively, Trump projects an "I don't care" attitude to the arbitrary rules and takes actions that directly fly in the face of what MSN says. Trump's a Nazi? He moves the embassy to Jerusalem. Trump will start WWIII? He negotiates a cease-fire with N. Korea. Trump colluded with Russia? Make Russia mad enough to pull out of the IMF and Russia builds mid-range nukes.
Now TDS people engage in Alinskyite tactics too via random twitter users and late night talk show hosts. The reason why they're not as effective is because their ridicule became stale. "Orange Man Bad" is the punchline to their jokes. Now, the key to a good roast joke is that it has to be based in reality. "Putin's cock holster" doesn't really work because reality doesn't reflect Russian collusion. Same with Pissgate dossier.

It's hard to imagine two people more different in life experience and choices, personal history, and disposition than Dave Rubin and Jocko Willink, but this is yet another great interview where Rubin teases out the best and the most essential about his guest. There is no divide that cannot be bridged by people who want to bridge it. That such conversations are even possible is something close to a miracle.

I wish Jocko or someone like him would run for office; I'd vote for him in a heartbeat. I'm tired of careerist politicians who are always apologizing for America and never getting anything done. Give me someone like Jocko, someone who champions and embodies ideas like perseverance and hard work, who isn't afraid to say how they feel. Someone who has served their country; someone who doesn't back down from a fight. I'm tired of Leftist politicians who are always telling people that the system is rigged against them and that hard work will get them nowhere; their words offer no redemption, no hope. People like Jocko, who have actually busted their asses to get to there they are, are few and far between in Washington. That should change.

History has for the most part, shown that military types make bad political leaders
There are exceptions to every rule but I'm suggesting this is true for the most part.
Good people skills, high integrity, hard worker, good judge of character, has above average knowledge of history and strong law background.
These are serious Presidential candidates , at least in my book and if he has military service, so much the better.

    • @Garrus1995
      @Garrus1995 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Jeffrey Hagelin, I believe Jocko checks the box for a lot of those traits. He clearly has a lot of integrity, he couldn't do the work he is doing now if he didn't have at least above average people skills, he is absolutely a hard worker, he probably is a good judge of character given a lot of the people he has worked alongside, and based on what I've read from him, he is fairly knowledgeable about history; he's not a historian, but show me a politician who is. As for the law background, yes obviously you want someone whose job it is to enforce and enact laws to know about them, but you don't need to be an Ivy League educated lawyer to know the law. Plenty of lawyers, people whose job it is is to know the ins and outs of law, become politicians. Not all of them do a very good job of it.

Garrus1995 I tend to agree with you. I’ve served with so many highly ethical, highly intelligent and charismatic people. I would encourage any of them to run for office if they had the inclination. IMO I believe there is a fundamental personality conflict for what it means to be a Soldier to what it is to be a politician. And if there isn’t, I’d be concerned. But overall, I’d love to see more veterans run for office, especially as Democrats. ( I’m not a Dem).

I didn't vote for Trump to be Mr. Personality, or Mr. Congeniality, or Our Nation's High Priest and Protector of Moral Virtue, or America's Master of Ceremonies, or the Great Father of Our Nation.
I voted for him to drain a Swamp and to clean up Washington. He's my employee and he knows his job. I don't need to ride him on every little thing he does. I want him to just do the job. He may be uncouth, may be a bully, may be slamming things against the wall... but as long as he is draining that Swamp, I'm fine with him.
I don't blame Trump for the shutdown. He allowed his "scientists" to lay it on the line. If he had overruled them, the media hounds and his critics would be all over him. He knew he'd take flack if his scientists were wrong (WHICH THEY WERE!) but he was in a lose/lose situation no matter what his first decision was.
He believes he can reboot the economy. He ought to get a chance to do it. There is no Democrat that has the foggiest idea on what to do.
Sometimes a nation needs a plumber, not a lawyer. Our sewers are full of laws and corruption flushed there by lawyers. If Trump has to stand waist deep in manure to clean the Swamp and unclog the sewers, then so be it.
I'd much rather have a Rottweiler slaying swamp creatures than an old crook (think Harry Reid) who puts on airs of piety. There may be a day when the nation is ready to receive Mr. Wonderful as president. But it's not going to happen for a while yet.
If Trump and Bill Barr and John Durham need 4 more years to get the job done, then Deplorables need to get off our backsides and go approve them to hire them for another term. Otherwise, the swamp will come flooding back into Washington and all this effort that Trump and we have expended in putting up with the Far Left will be worthless.
Remember, we're the boss, not radical Ruling Elites. We told Trump to clean it up... and he's doing a great job so far. Let's renew his contract in November.

I like him and agree with some of it. Though i can understand why he is not a bit more critical about the politics, he should be , since he and his brothers and sisters in arms bear the costs of the interests of the so called 'military-industrial-complex'. And the de-stabilizing machinations of Organizations like the CIA. Saddam was a horrible person, yes but he was supported by the United States in the '80s. Everybody likes to ignore that tiny fact. or that the reason Iran is a theocracy is that the democratic Elected President of Iran back in 1953 was ousted by the CIA again

Karazenpo Fresno I was just thinking the other day that we need more Dan Crenshaw‘s to take up politics. We have so many veterans that are so very talented and they care about people and what happens in our government they tend to lean very hard towards a smaller set of government when it is less intrusive and more accountable especially fiscally.I personally don’t believe I’d make a very good politician I don’t really have a knack for it I’ve never really tried it but I do know that we have plenty of veterans that are fully qualified to lead this country as politicians and do it well.
