    Jocko Willink is a decorated retired Navy SEAL officer, author of the book ‘Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win,’ and co-founder of Echelon Front, where he is a leadership instructor, speaker, and executive coach.
    Jocko spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy SEAL Teams, starting as an enlisted SEAL and rising the ranks to become a SEAL officer. As commander of SEAL Team Three’s Task Unit Bruiser during the battle of Ramadi, he orchestrated SEAL operations that helped the “Ready First” Brigade of the U.S. Army’s First Armored Division bring stability to the violent, war-torn city. Task Unit Bruiser became the most highly decorated Special Operations Unit of the Iraq War. Jocko returned from Iraq to serve as Officer-In-Charge of Training for all West Coast SEAL Teams. There he spearheaded the development of leadership training and personally instructed and mentored the next generation of SEAL leaders who have continued to perform with great success on the battlefield.
    In 2010, Jocko retired from the Navy and launched Echelon Front with Leif Babin, where he teaches the leadership principles he learned on the battlefield to help others lead and win.
    Jocko has put together leadership principles that will help you become a successful leader.

      Interesting. Was just listening to Andrew Carnegie and he said the same thing but with different words... I deduce qualities can be obtained by habit and habit can be created through self-discipline. Once you have to qualities you desire as a habit than all you need to do is not get off the train. My thoughts anyway. Carnegie goes on to say, from my own reasoning, that motive is the power or driving force of self discipline. He says obsessional motive. Giving the ability to turn on emotion at will. Probably in the same way a motional video does for people. Noteworthy success is what I speak of to be clear.

    I would love see Jocko Willink and David Goggins appear on a podcast together. I have seen the same suggestion made countless times on other TH-cam videos and generally it is motivated by people wanting to see two ‘badasses’ join forces and create epic content. I for one would like to see the two men amicably communicate their differences in objectives, perspectives and experiences. Seeing such opposing members of the SEAL fraternity engaged in such a dialogue would be incredibly insightful and provide many lessons for all interested. I have followed both individuals closely and it is clear that similarity is not what will bring them together, but, after a few years of listening to them engaged in comfortable conversation with individuals who are already inclined to agree with them (whether it be because they are in awe of their very presence and accomplishments or because they are old friends or members of the same circles and/or schools of thought) I feel it would refreshing to see them hold their own against another military man whom they do not see eye to eye with on things.
    The snippet of Jocko and Leif describing BUDs made it very apparent how far apart one side is from the other. Whilst I do not see it as thinly veiled shot at Goggins as some have interpreted it to be, it is still a telling example of the chasm in attitudes between the two parties. It would be interesting for them to hear them explain and compare their attitudes towards Hell Week, the SEAL teams, combat, leadership and life itself.

      Do Jocko and Goggins have disagreements? I never heard them mention each other, which is a bit weird

    • @ro514
      @ro514 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Agreed, would be so good to hear. Goggins talks about BUD/S a lot because he had to do it 3 times with all these problems and it is a massive part of his pride and his story. He doesnt necessarily talk about his time serving unlike Jocko and Leif who's stories and lessons are mainly based on their time serving in Ramadi. Maybe one day we will get to see them together but i dont think there would be much chemistry there to be honest!

    • @sdotlondonkid
      @sdotlondonkid 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      R Oh I am not necessarily looking for on screen chemistry. I would just like to see them in dialogue and how that plays out as they bring their differing mindsets to the table. Jocko seems as though he really can work effectively with anyone, that is part of his ‘GOOD’ mindset and I am certain he would remain his articulate self during the discussion. Goggins has a more abrasive approach, though both are blunt Goggins is much more workmanlike in his thinking and speech. For a better, well rounded life I think Jocko’s template and example is the better of the two to follow but I think that is best compared by having the two men talk face to face. Goggins lives life out anger and channels it into discipline. Jocko lives life seemingly under his own drive and thus also maintains discipline.

    • @sdotlondonkid
      @sdotlondonkid 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pavel Sokov Only they and their circle would know that. I just follow them on social media and read their work and listen to what they have to say. Neither seem catty enough to air out any personal disputes online if they do indeed have any issues between them.

    In the age of fatherless men this man with his values is a kind of hope - at least for me. If you had no reliable person in your early childhood an youth you still feel the need - or maybe a kind of gap? - for something meaningful, something to create.
    But: Without discipline you will not achieve anything. And that is the step most of us are afraid of: decide what you REALLY want to do and then: stick to it, create your own system of belief and let no one destroy this. In other words: endure. Even if you are the only person who believes in what you are doing. I am writing this being the witness of my own „failure“ (nearly 60 years old). But even failure can be used as a kind of motivator to transform. Do not give up. At the end of your life you should be able to say: at least I tried to change. Thanks for this interview. Really inspiring. Greetings from Germany (excuse my English).

    ❤ love this interview. So much to learn and relate to and that I could spend all day commenting on.
    One of the best things you said was if you don't have a mission go help someone. Sosososososo true.
    There is so much inspiration in volunteering wether in a community or personal friend/family level.
    If you are down or lost or have no mission or are jobless... Go help someone or go volunteer somewhere. It will change your course and make your life better.
    -discipline is a practice. ❤

    The definition of greatness is to help other people. I like that. Jocko is amazing. I read his book way of the warrior kid, which was great too. There he dives in into his concepts like discipline equals freedom a little more. I highly recommend it for everyone who wants sort of a mentorship through a book

    Lewis approached the interview as an equal. That allowed deeper questions to come up sooner. Fantastic interviewing, naturally. Transitioning veterans contemplate their "Why" statement. Jocko addressed this too. It's about alignment, with your soul's core, to a potential job or industry. It's the thread that Jocko's company works to achieve. Almost like he went through the honor foundation with Musselman ;)

    Super great talk!
    Jocko is so fast,
    and I like how he sometimes doesn't know what to answer on your questions,
    it's like Jocko stopped spending time for things that are not important. He decides super fast if something is worth discussing and then goes on.

    • @quekumber
      @quekumber 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ...and then lewis brings him right back to try to answer irrelevant or obvious questions/answers. It's as though Lewis didn't know of Jocko at all, wasn't paying attention, and just responded with "wow", "that is powerful" as a filler. Jocko handled it extremely well.

    I totally agree with his de-escalation methods , I feel this could work on arguments for the majority of time!
    But in relationships there 50 /50 and taking the blame for everything may not always work, you also don't want to become a push over either!
