If I understand use time correctly, the coin gun fires 7.5 coins per second with no modifiers. This means, with each platinum coin being 1 million copper coins, it takes 37.5 million copper coins to fire that gun for 5 seconds. If you assume 1 copper = 1 cent, then it takes $375,000 to fire that gun for 5 seconds. Agile reduces the use time to 7, meaning it fires about 8.5 coins per second, increasing it to $425,000 to fire that gun for 5 seconds. Of course, I could be wrong in one of my calculations or my understanding of how the game works, feel free to correct me.

I haven't seen this in the comments anywhere and i thought that people should see this. The way i farmed for this weapon is by trapping a flying dutchman, and then setting up some lava and conveyor belts to make the farm afkable. Late to comment: The Zenith has a strange property where all swords thrown return to the players back; the more zoomed out you play (4k), the more extreme this effect comes, making your back the single strongest part of the zenith. Simply aim your mouse to one of the four corners of the screen and watch your back melt enemies, probably faster than the coin gun still.
I played a modded game that you could craft any ammo into INFINITE ammo bags. I was playing ranger...I bumrushed coingun, more than a little, because I KNEW 200 dmg was beyond busted. that gun remained my heavy hitter for SOOOO much of progression, it was a long time before I could get more powerful stuff in the calamity mod's progression.
For anyone concerned about the pirate's ghost killing you, I have a simple solution. Build up about 10 - 15 blocks above the lava pit (to make sure none of them will jump up to hit you) build out around 5 or 6 blocks on both sides. Make the sides of the platform out of blocks and the middle out of platforms (to easily fly into.) Close the top about 10 blocks above (so parrots can't kill you.) Get a War Table from the OOA (tier one spawns the Dark Mages, and they drop it. Later waves have more Dark Mages, so its a higher chance of getting it, but its more dangerous.) for the extra sentry slot. Set an AoE sentry at the bottom to kill the pirates faster, and one in the box with you. Preferably, make the one with you a single target sentry, like the Ballista sentries. Wear summoner gear for the slots, but if you want to be safe, wear melee. The extra minions are not necessary. Build a mini platform inside of your box to jump onto, since when a ghost goes through blocks the sentry will not target it, and it will always get at least one hit on you. Hope this helped all of you.
personally I used it in a 1.3 playthrough using silver and copper coins, the general utility of a gun with near infinite ammo that was guarantied to drop from every mob made it great on solar eclipses especially
Obviously this isn’t in vanilla, but my friend got the LuiAFK mod along with a few others like Calamity and Thorium. Now LuiAFK allows crafting of infinite ammo types, including those platinum coins (only for ammo purposes), so as you can imagine, I got the gun on accident and realized how overpowered it was
Having used this gun as a main weapon at one point in a play through, just use any statue farms to get tons of items, and craft them into stronger things and sell them. Did this with shark statues and a terra blade (any true melee weapon that deals enough works) and got around 200-500 platinum coins per hour. Pairing this with a piece of duct tape, I was getting rich overnight afking.
I have used the coin gun in a serious playthrough only once, and that was only because I was lucky enough to get it from the pirates pre mech. The potential power is great while it is costly, I used it with gold coins to occasionally hit twins and prime for big damage while using onyx blaster as my main weapon. Easiest mech fights I've ever had, definitely worth the coins. Just.. don't miss
@@outbands8938 just reread your comment now didn’t realize you were talking about hitting things “twice” with the back of the sword thought u were talking about groups of enemies from behind
Coin gun is emblematic of what I think is Terraria's best quality: adjustable difficulty curve. If you got the skills nothing's stopping you from attempting bosses almost right away they become available but for everyone else there are so many ways to make the fight easier that eventually anyone is able to succeed. Make herb farm to craft potions, fish to craft even stronger potions, fish for better gear, grind for rare drops, farm money and reforge everything to max, create arena better suited for the boss's attack patterns, fill it with buffs like honey ponds, bast statues and heart lanterns etc., use all the buffs like bewitching table and so on. At some point you just become so powerful that the boss has nothing on you. Coin embodies that grind. If nothing else helps, just grind until it drops and then grind until you're so rich that you nuke even late game bosses in mere seconds. There's always a way
I used coingun once in a journey mode playthrough (no god mode), on master mode and randomly got it as a drop pre-mech. Being that it was journey, we had platinum coins duped. This weapon carried up until moonlord. Highly reccomend if you can get your hands on it in journey mode.
@@Salted_Rice223 since there are people out there that are having fun literally using one weapon from the start I can't see why you wouldn't be having fun using coin gun for as long as you want. The way someone plays a game doesn't matter as long as you're having fun, since that's what the game is supposed to do.
on the wii u you had the option to disable saving when you leave the game and if you had a friend you can dupe the hell out of coins and stufd by just giving the item you want to dupe to your friend then your friend gives the items back and you do that until you think that was enough and turn on save on leaving
I tend to use the coin gun every time I go ranger (Modded btw), and the easiest way to farm money in calamity is to use a discount car and greedy ring (both from pirate invasion) to go to the Brewer NPC (Alchemist NPC mod) and purchase the "Yharim's Stimulants" buff. By purchasing it for nearly half off, you can resell it for a 2+ gold profit. Basically infinite money. Also factor in the Alchemist Charm you aquire in Alchemist NPC, it's even more of a discount.
I got it from my 3rd pirate invasion ever and it is fun to use. Using silver or gold is really good for a casual fights because you make your money back instantly. It’s good in that sense
You can increase the efficiency of your conveyor belt farm 5-fold by using the sdmg or the mega shark machine gun with the golden bullets along with the golden flask and the greedy ring. With this method in a crimson or corruption biome I averaged about a platinum coin every 42 seconds. I also include a water candle, Shadow candle and a battle potion as well
I’ve actually done DPS testing, and I can comfortably tell you you’re wrong. Even with platinum coins, the coin gun deals roughly the same DPS as a tsunami with holy arrows. Granted, that was on a stationary target in the form of a target dummy, but regardless there’s no way in hell it could match the zenith.
make video about sanguine staff PLEASE, its so good, but people forget about this weapon, its drops wich 100% chance, doing good damage, and make light in the dark.
I wonder about this video as you claim that this is better than zenith without ever comparing the two in the video? Actual tests show that they are not close
btw an even better way to gain coins is to buy a lot of paintings from the princess with the greedy ring equipped and then sell them without. ez plat coins
As of 1.4.4 you can buy 9999 stacks of 1 second timers from the mechanic and then throw them into shimmer to uncraft them then again the watches you get from that and turn around and sell the gold, chain, and wire for I think it's about 45 platinum profit
This was a really fun video to come back to with the context of some new farm strategies, now that 1 plat per second is a relatively easy thing to obtain at the start of hard mode, and the method would require grinding the pirates anyway. Now a little bit of building knowledge and effort makes this actually the best weapon in the game the second it's obtainable
late but, this weapon is underrated in modded versions of this game. most people run a mod that allows ammo to become infinite once you achieve 1000 of it. and calamity farms can get well above 300 plat an hour. ive been able to use it in many calamity playthroughs as its basically BIS up to yharon but it is a cheat level weapon (calamity locks zenith behind the final boss) but outside of borderline cheat methods like infinite ammo its not reasonable tbh
Fun mod idea that actually requires you to earn it: Infinite coin bag similar to bullet and arrow requiring 4 - 999 platinum to craft is creates an ammo bag you can permanently store your coin into growing in power and not consuming the coin to cast. Kind of like the cursed weapons in most tales series
I got a coin gun on my first ever pirate invasion in very early hardmode when i played on xbox. Quickly found out how it worked and used it to shred the rest of hardmode. This was during 1.2.4. This was one of 2 times i got the coin gun during a play through on xbox
I've used the coin gun multiple times in modded playthroughs since it's so easy to grind platinus with QoL mods. The thing absolutely shreds everything. I haven't personally attempted it, but I suspect you could kill Scal with it.
You technically could, but you can just upgrade it into the sevens striker instead or use any other weapon, even the zenith which more than doubles coin gun's dps.
I remember having a coin gun on 1.2 console, had a few modded stacks of plat coins..that was fun. Not even the people using modded in SDMGs could compete.

Truly pay to win gun
personally I used it in a 1.3 playthrough using silver and copper coins, the general utility of a gun with near infinite ammo that was guarantied to drop from every mob made it great on solar eclipses especially
weaker weapons are kinda better for the Greedy Ring since its Lucky Coin effect drops coins for every hit rather than kill.
Obviously this isn’t in vanilla, but my friend got the LuiAFK mod along with a few others like Calamity and Thorium. Now LuiAFK allows crafting of infinite ammo types, including those platinum coins (only for ammo purposes), so as you can imagine, I got the gun on accident and realized how overpowered it was
This gun cost 1246357194528263 platinum to fire for 1 second
Having used this gun as a main weapon at one point in a play through, just use any statue farms to get tons of items, and craft them into stronger things and sell them. Did this with shark statues and a terra blade (any true melee weapon that deals enough works) and got around 200-500 platinum coins per hour. Pairing this with a piece of duct tape, I was getting rich overnight afking.
For how many invasions you need to do to get this, you should have a stock pile of coins already from the countless pirates you would've had to kill
Unless you somehow get lucky or unlucky enough to get it 1st try
i got one and sold it
Actually this gun is really op since u can do the crystal glitch and get infinity plat so basically u have infinit ammo and a op gun
Just.. don't miss
Back then, there was a bug where you could glitch items and it was so helpful and i thought of duplicating money and using a coin gun and it was so op
it can still slightly be outdone by zenith in some senarios, (for example for fast enemies, enemies that are behind you)
Zenith is just better overall the coin gun is only better against target dummies
@@x3no941 he was talking about dps
@@outbands8938 just reread your comment now didn’t realize you were talking about hitting things “twice” with the back of the sword thought u were talking about groups of enemies from behind
@@x3no941 yea that, it almost doubles its dps
But was it fun though?
@@Salted_Rice223 if you ask me journey mode is boring as hell, no challenge
That sounds so boring, using the same weapon from pre mech to moon lord. But I guess that’s just journey mode in general
@@Salted_Rice223 since there are people out there that are having fun literally using one weapon from the start I can't see why you wouldn't be having fun using coin gun for as long as you want.
The way someone plays a game doesn't matter as long as you're having fun, since that's what the game is supposed to do.
1. Build hyper-efficient afk money farm
2. Get the gun and greedy ring
3. AFK and go do sth else
4. Play the game
5. Out of ammo? Repeat step 3.
I got this during my first pirate invasion on iPad and because there was a supper easy dupe glitch the platinum was no problem.
Back when you could copy characters and your inventory would copy too right
on the wii u you had the option to disable saving when you leave the game and if you had a friend you can dupe the hell out of coins and stufd by just giving the item you want to dupe to your friend then your friend gives the items back and you do that until you think that was enough and turn on save on leaving
@@thenthson no it was the item frame dupe probably
I tend to use the coin gun every time I go ranger (Modded btw), and the easiest way to farm money in calamity is to use a discount car and greedy ring (both from pirate invasion) to go to the Brewer NPC (Alchemist NPC mod) and purchase the "Yharim's Stimulants" buff. By purchasing it for nearly half off, you can resell it for a 2+ gold profit. Basically infinite money.
Also factor in the Alchemist Charm you aquire in Alchemist NPC, it's even more of a discount.
I have to tell sans this but he’s already trying to find someone that murdered his brother
cool
Why does sans need a coin gun?
@@a_random_xenomorph it looks cool
@@a_random_xenomorph it’s like a money dispenser except you can use it for Self defense

I'm not kidding here, I got the coin gun on my first invasion ever. It was my first world, first invasion. I had no idea it was so rare
I'm gonna say this again, the platform farm is way more effort than you really need, just make a mimic farm, fully afk-able
I got it from my 3rd pirate invasion ever and it is fun to use. Using silver or gold is really good for a casual fights because you make your money back instantly. It’s good in that sense
All you do is take out some loans
@@lolnt6103 please elaborate
@@lolnt6103 explain
@@abyzz6252 just a hater/troll lol
How does it compare to guns, is it comparable to the SDMG?
Theoretically you won’t be landing all holy stars like tsunami but you also wouldn’t land all coin gun shots so either way zenith is better
make video about sanguine staff PLEASE, its so good, but people forget about this weapon, its drops wich 100% chance, doing good damage, and make light in the dark.
I wonder about this video as you claim that this is better than zenith without ever comparing the two in the video? Actual tests show that they are not close
btw an even better way to gain coins is to buy a lot of paintings from the princess with the greedy ring equipped and then sell them without. ez plat coins
Wow very cool! 😎

my life savings: adios.
It cant beat zenith tho..-

As of 1.4.4 you can buy 9999 stacks of 1 second timers from the mechanic and then throw them into shimmer to uncraft them then again the watches you get from that and turn around and sell the gold, chain, and wire for I think it's about 45 platinum profit
I think you should get more love man amazing videos even for me (3.5k) hours and it's still interesting , keep up the good work
I love how everytime he says "of course I'm talking about" I'm absolutely clueless what's to come 😂
This was a really fun video to come back to with the context of some new farm strategies, now that 1 plat per second is a relatively easy thing to obtain at the start of hard mode, and the method would require grinding the pirates anyway.
Fun mod idea that actually requires you to earn it:
Infinite coin bag similar to bullet and arrow requiring 4 - 999 platinum to craft is creates an ammo bag you can permanently store your coin into growing in power and not consuming the coin to cast.

You technically could, but you can just upgrade it into the sevens striker instead or use any other weapon, even the zenith which more than doubles coin gun's dps.
chance to not consume ammo on this gun is literally a free shot
Ok but head me out, gold flask + dozens of prehardmode bosses and or hella goblin battle standerds
I remember having a coin gun on 1.2 console, had a few modded stacks of plat coins..that was fun. Not even the people using modded in SDMGs could compete.
“i am heavy weapons guy. and this, is my weapon.”
I was bored one time and decided to challenge myself to a fresh start with the coin gun from the other world, it took me 3 days to finish ir just cause I failed to beat moonlord the first time as I did not have enough ammunition
