    I mostly use 1095, the 440's an the best steel I have is A2 an this is nothing against anyone who uses the super steels, but I have never had a failure with any of the above mentioned, I am self admittedly cheap when it comes to blades, my Prodigy is still one of the best knives out there for my taste. I do have a bark river, highland special, an love it too, its my edc blade an the prodigy goes on my side any time I venture in the woods or swamp around my neck of the woods. Thanks Chris love te vids!

    That is a great looking knife and I like the look of the sheath also and you can tell that both was well made and just what those like myself would love and if it wasn't so expensive I would have to buy it. Their knives are made for those with plenty of money to waste though and the working class like myself can't afford it. I have some in that category and they are in my collection except for one which I keep for general use, and one other which I have on my utility belt to carry when going camping.

    It's just beautiful...I love my Bark River but if you're going to expect it to be an all around hard worker I think it's going to need a grippier handle treatment. Something like esees micarta that just gets stickier when wet. I just heard Chris say something about a non polished handle option- I'm not familiar with Bark Rivers un polished scales...can anyone advise me and tell me if the unpolished scales are that kind of grippy. Thanks for your help in advance!

    Love your vids.. watch em all. This one looks like something I might pick up... My suggestion for future vids.. especially for knives like this.. include some footage of how field knives perform outside of outdoor activities... how does it slice through canvas.. or cardboard.. how does it stab.. can it slice through rope quickly.. etc... just .02 cents.. thanx!

    • @preparedmind101
      @preparedmind101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean "Newb stuff"? Maybe on brands or designs that are complete unknowns. I've been doing this too long. I can hold a knife in my hand and know, especially if it is one of the companies that I'm used to. And unfortunately, there isn't enough return anymore to spend hours setting up gratuitous footage to find out something I already know. Stick within the parameters of the things you KNOW and you can know what it'll do just by holding it. The videos add a tremendous amount of information outside of looking at a picture on a website. I don't bother with the 10,000 other variables.

    I’ve been thinking bout getting this knife and other bark river knives but what worries me is sharpening them. I don’t have a power sharpener and idk if you can sharpen a convex edge on a stone. I just feel like if I can’t sharpen a blade on a stone than it’s kind of useless to me.

    • @ssunfish
      @ssunfish 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This or the wilderness explorer?

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both!! This has a bit better handle, because the Explorer is thiner for pinchgriping as a hunting knife. This is more of a general use tactical knife, similar to the Gerber Strongarm. It's like a super perfect Strongarm! The Explorer, is a hunting knife for big game. If you are hunting bears, go for the Explorer, if you are a preper, survivalist or a soldier, go with the Sandstorm! Explorer comes in 2 different grinds, the full convex, slices better than the Sandstorm but the Sandstorm is more robust blade and still a great slicer with that convex edge, it's still very thin behind the edge! Keep in mind that the Explorer, is 4mm blade thickness, while the Sandstorm is 5mm. Because of the handle ergos and the fact, that the Sandstorm can do more, I would go with the Sandstorm. CPM154, is the steel that has it all. Stainless, TOUGH! easy to sharpen and good edge retention! Plus, it's carbides, make it cut way better, than any carbon steel for example!! CPM154, 52100, Vanadis 4 E are some of my favorite steels for fixed blades. M390 is also a really high quality steel , that's the steel I would ove all my folding knives, or small fixed blades to have!!! For tougher jobs and larger knives, the 3 steels I mentioned, are the best IMO!

      @preparedmind101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ones I get are usually "seconds". If there's one on this one I didn't notice. The blemishes on the last one didn't even show on camera. I've never seen a flaw on anything I've gotten off DLT.

    • @airpaprika
      @airpaprika 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@preparedmind101 I believe you. Still, it is expected that DLT makes sure you get the good ones. The worst I have is North Country EDC 1st Production run. It is so uneven, one can see it from the distance. Just recently, I bought Mountain Man 8 inches... also uneven. My Kephart in 4V in Turkish walnut with black liners and mosaic pins - scales not glued to the steel. Still, I am not angry, just sad. Bark River has great designs and the steel is well heat treated (as far as I can tell), but I don't find myself burning to get "that new Barkie". Especially now when the prices are just off the charts. I do wish Mr. Stewart and his people all the best but my money now goes mainly to LT Wright offerings.
