  • Despite the success of the Telluride, Kia isn't giving up on their smaller 3-row SUV. For 2024 it returns with sharper looks, newer tech, stylish "pixel" LED lamps and... YES, the hybrid and plug in hybrid models return! While we keep waiting for a PHEV Telluride, the Sorento is worth a long look if you want a plug on your next 3-row family hauler.

  • @ooitengaik8144

    KIA can make the Sorento a more thoughtful vehicle by:
    1) extending the ambient light to the rear doors, just like what the front doors have, &
    2) lighting up the cabin light of the boot whenever opening a car door (not only the boot) so that it can light up the 3rd row for better access (since most of the models come with a 3rd row seats).

  • @kswas2784
    @kswas2784 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I genuine question I have is: what good is the 3rd row in a vehicle this size? If you are a family of 4, you don't need it; if you are a family of 5, you need a bench 2nd row. If you have more than 3 kids (or a family of 6 or more with others living with you) then you need a larger class vehicle because you won't be able to use this for anything more than a single night stay anywhere because there's no cargo room left with the 3rd row. If you're hauling kids to practice/games - same thing, not enough room for their gear. The only thing that this 3rd row seems to be good for is hauling a bunch of co-workers to lunch at a fast-food place 5 minutes away so they don't have to suffer the back row...

    • @markmiller3279
      @markmiller3279 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Plenty of sports don't require a bunch of gear (a soccer ball?). It's strictly a part-time seat. Anyone with a large family will go for a bigger vehicle.

      We have a 2017 with the V6 and get about 22 mpg. Better gas mileage is great but the V6 has the right amount of power and we do a tow occasionally.
      You might save a bit of money short-term with the turbo but the extra pressure and heat would have me dumping it before the powertrain warranty runs out.

    I think Kia hit the mark here on size - and other automakers should pay attention. Let's start with two facts: (i) a heck of a lot of people live in cities where things are tight; and (ii) most parents have two kids - but sometimes need room for friends, cousins, teammates, etc... The Highlander is 195". The Pilot is 200". The CX-90 is 202". I could go on but basically every other 3-row SUV is longer than the Highlander at 195". The Sorrento is just 189" - and the third row is usable. The third row isn't huge. It is not something an adult would want to sit in for a long road trip. But absolutely usable in a pinch for taking the neighbor's kids to the pool or driving them home from soccer practice. And it is more practical than the third row in the Mitsubishi Outlander which is comically small. Kia also nails it with fancy tech. I mean have you seen the infotainment screen on affordable trims of the Highlander from 2020-2022? They look like someone stuck a computer from 1997 in there. Yes, they fixed it for 2023 on the XLE trim and up - but Kia makes you feel like you got the latest and greatest. The Sorrento nails a gap between the RAV4 (at 181") and the Highlander (at 195"). It gives you three-rows in a relatively compact footprint, with a hybrid option, and a great infotainment system - that is why they are selling well. And i suspect if you looked at where it was selling well, it would be in cities/suburbs. If i were Toyota and Honda, i would get a true competitor out there. Toyota and Honda have a much better reputation for reliability and if they had a true competitor for the Sorrento - i suspect it would sell very well. My suggestion: make a 3-row version of the RAV4 in an upcoming redesign, maybe call it a RAV4 XL. The third-row in the 2012 RAV4 was tight, but usable for kiddos in a pinch.
