    Pretty much brought a tear to my eye seeing this thing finished up. Beautiful. I'm no woodworker, but I do want to give a keezer build a shot. Thanks for the inspiration and ideas!

      Todd Hudson, thank to so much. You certainly don’t have to be a woodworker to make one. A buddy of mine (who is no craftsman) just made a smaller version. It’s a fun and easy project, but not inexpensive. Thanks for watching and commenting. Enjoy!

      dberg1964, thanks! Believe it or not, the process was quite humbling. It turned out way better than I could have imagined. I tend to think form/function over aesthetics, so the fact that it came out looking the way that it did shocked and gratified me beyond belief. Thanks so much for the praise. And thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    Love this build!!! I'm ready to get going on my own. Thinking chalk board for the top, so I can label my taps and note the ABV of my home brews. Was curious what you used on the sides for the stain color and the clear coat? I just put a 2x8 collar on my freezer, was already done before I saw this. Thinking I may try a 1/2" piece of insulation foam (sort of like you'd use to insulate the inside your garage doors). You have inspired me to make a piece of furniture that I can display proudly in my home instead of an plain old chest freezer with a collar. Awesome build, and Thank You for the inpiration!

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff Teasley crazy you should mention the 1/2 inch foam. I’m doing the exact same thing right now on another keezer.
      I didn’t use any stain for the sides, just a few coats of shellac.
      Thanks for the kind words and good luck on your keezer build!

    That's the best keezer I've seen. I don't suppose you have a materials list. I'd love to make one.

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gordy Martin, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately no, I don’t have a materials list. But the basic rundown is this: 1/2” plywood for the sides; 3/4” for the bottom; 3” castors; a bunch of pallet wood; wood glue; shellac; walnut, beach, and maple hardwood for the top; and 2 kits of resin epoxy. That’s basically it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    1000% overengineered! ...Exactly how I like it!....Viewers THIS is a lost Art! Take Note..You built a $2k façade around a $400 ice box...Ha!...MAD SKILLS You Showoff!..With your Jigs and Guides! Right down to your favorite old push stick( I'll bet it was your Pop's). Anyway these videos ROCKED, were entertaining and as a woodworker myself, They are inspirational to know there are others out there who do not settle for building CRAP!!…. If I build it, I want it to be around as long as the Pyramids...but made of hardwood...

    Very nice build. Your skills are impressive. Im looking into insulation options & how to protect the collar from mold. What was that spray you used for insulation between the collar boards and have you noticed if it makes much difference in keeping the temp down? Also was that a lacquer on the inside?

    Awesome build man. Just ordered a 15cu ft chest freezer that will be here tomorrow and plan on making a coffin for it. Trying to get the jist of it down by watching your videos. The one question I have is how the top is mounted to the lid of the freezer? I see you built the top around it all but the back side and it slides on. Did you end up gluing the top to the lid so it can't fall off? That's the only part I don't get in these especially when people aren't making the collars, but instead using U shaped draft towers etc on top.

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      armyguy209, great question. There are a couple pictures in Part 3 that show you, but they may require a bit of explanation to understand. So, the whole top is a shell that fits around the lid. As you noticed, there’s no back to the shell so that it can slide off. The shell attaches to the lid by four tabs that grab the lower edge of the lid (where your fingers would go if you were to open it). The tabs keep the shell snug to the lid and keep it from falling off when the lid is open. Does that make sense? Thanks for watching and commenting. Good luck on your’s!

    No issues with venting off the heat through the sides of the freezer with it wrapped? does that particular freezer have a fan that vents all of the heat out the back near the compressor?

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bill Healy, it doesn’t have a vent fan, and there are no issues with overheating. I think the fact that there are spacers between the skin and the shell allows the heat to escape well enough. But that’s just a guess. For all I know, the whole thing is going to explode any day now. But it’s been working for over a year now and it shows no signs of quitting. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • @josephdearholt8238

    How are you managing temp control of the freezer?

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a regulator with temperature probe that sticks inside the freezer box. The power cord is connected to the regulator. The regulator interrupts power when the freezer gets too cold and turns it back on when it warms up. Pretty cool device. No pun intended.

    Nice job, not sure if it's okey to cover the outer skin of the chest freezer.

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ilan magen, yeah, that concern has been brought up once before. The keezer has been running for about 8 months now without issue. The whole thing is like a shell, and the shell only covers 3 sides (excluding the back). The freezer has 1/4” spacers all around so that the shell doesn’t actually touch any of the sides. I didn’t design the shell with function in mind, only form and aesthetics. So it may be a happy accident that nothing is wrong with it. Do you think the freezer is going to die as a result? Thanks for the comment!

    • @ilanmagen
      @ilanmagen 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Modern fridge uses the otter surface as the static condenser. What use to be 20 years ago radiator like on the back of a fridge. We all gonna die some day so is your keezer.

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ilan magen, so does that mean you do think so? Or does that mean you don’t think so? I know everything stops working eventually, but that’s not why you brought up your concern. You obviously have far more technical expertise than I have with respect to refrigerators. I’d be very interested to understand what you’re talking about with the surface being the static condenser. I’m thinking about building another one of these, so any information would be a huge help. I’d imagine that anyone else watching this video would also be interested. Thanks for you insight!

    • @JoeGraves24
      @JoeGraves24 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the back of the freezer is open to air flow, you should be fine. Also the vent opening on the side at the bottom must remain open to air. I would add a vent to the exterior of your next build so the compressor can get plenty of cooling air. If it overheats, the pump/motor inside the compressor will likely seize up. In layman’s terms, no air flow is no good!

      Sweet! 'Beergas' as they call it. Thats my next upgrade for the tap setup. I got my eye on a 22.3cu/ft chest freezer to convert. $225 and a year old. Was thinking of calling it the BMFK, as in Big Mother Fucking Keezer.

    • @Bassguitarist1985

      Still, its an amazing build! Your wood working skill is beyond compare!
      How tall is the collar?
      How thick is it?
      What size shanks did you use?
      Did you insulate the collar with OC 1" panels?
      Do you find with the wood paneling the keezer has enough ventilation?
      Is the lid and hinges still stable with all the extra weight of the wood?
      Do you plan on installing a fan system inside to circulate the air keeping the temp consistent?
      I know, a lot of question, just trying to get perspective before I really start diving into my own build.

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      xboxer1985, thanks! I think the collar is 8.5 or 9 inches tall and about 1 3/4 inch thick. I used 3 and 4 inch shanks.

    I have to jump in on the other side of this, while the top is absolutely amazing, the used pallet look is patently awful. I built stuff from used pallets when I was first married, and we couldn't afford to buy a 2X4, never mind some really nice plywood and then cover it up with crap pallet wood. The other half of my complaint, is a keezer should hold homebrew, not store bought kegs. Spend your time brewing beer, not spending a thousand hours and a thousand dollars making something that quite plainly, to me, looks like crap.

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      KenN None, well, you won’t like my next keezer build then either. Can’t please them all, I guess. It’s true that “there is no effort without error and shortcoming.” I’ll let the pros brew the beer, thanks. I just like to drink it. But thanks for watching and commenting, nonetheless.
