  • This is my keezer collar build. It took about a week to finish. I am by no means a handy man or professional builder, but this was pretty simple to do with some help from my father. There are a lot of designs out there, but this one is simple and not to look at. I can also now fit 3 kegs! Like and subscribe for more videos like this!

    The chalk board on top is one of the best ideas I’ve ever seen. Will definitely be doing that!!!

      Wes_hopwizard let me know how it goes! I would use roll in passing and maybe prime the wood. When I use it, chalk gets into the wood cracks and won't come out

    Cool build. Add some insulation to inside your wood band. It will keep motor running so much. Cheers

    This is the best finish I've seen! Esp like the inside primer & the magnet attached drip tray! Would you add any insulation? Thanks!

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dayne Anderson mine is fine without instulation! Do add a moisture trap you see online on other videos and forums. I haven’t yet, but I have water that builds up at the bottom if I have a lot of beer higher up in the basket. It takes longer to cool those down and it creases condensation. Apparently a moisture trap is a fix for that. The outter trim fell off after some rain for a 4th of July party, maybe because of the old glue I used, but everything else stands strong to this day. Please keep me posted on your build!

    I wouldn't call this easy at all, and I mean that as a compliment.. that's a very comprehensive build and looks real nice with the trim pieces. I wonder how much more efficient this could be with a .5 - 1" foam board insulation inside...

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      goodolarchie thanks! I guess I use easy lightly. When I was doing my research, I saw REALLY fancy builds with lights, tiles, expensive wood and adhesives, etc. My goal was get four sides to stick together, get some taps in it, then make it look nice. The trim was just a quick flex :D

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      goodolarchie I have looked into getting foam, I don't see a need to. It's been about a year and I have no problems with the thermoregulator or the freezer turning on too often. Also, no condensation on the walls, just the floor. Not even on the kegs or bottles I have in there.

    Great video, thank you. Have you ever had temp issues with not insulting the collar? I'd like to avoid that for my project if possible. Thanks.

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tyler George thanks for watching man,and no problems at all honestly. I did a few layers of the special mold resistant paint inside and sealed up the crack where the collar and fridge meet. Temperature stays pretty consistent and I don't see the fridge on for more than a few min to bring it back down. I would also think about where you drill the holes for the thermometer probe. I have a bin inside the fridge and the wire gets in the way because of where I put the hole.

  • @TheFinnymonster

    I bought a chest freezer for fermenting but it's too small so i'm turning it into a keezer. My question is what's the point of the wood riser? Is it just for more height space. Couldn't you just drill through the chest freezer itself? looks great might have to try this.

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are various reasons and hieghts you could do. The wood collar is to give a safe place for the thermostat probe and for the faucets and shanks. You could drill through the freezer itself, but I did not want to risk the integrity of the freezer. If you're confident, go for it I guess. But, you'll have to really seal everything up and make sure it's rust resistant. The shanks and faucets get cold and develope condensation when used. Let me know how it goes! And thanks!!!

    looks nice, i would've centered the taps a bit more ;)

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, and yea I regret not doing that in the first place. I planned to get a mini keg or a third keg in general meaning I'd add another tap and then it'd look centered, but that never happened and now I'm left with an lop sided collar and taps lol but it works as it should so no complaint. Just not as nice of an esthetic as I'd like

I want to say 7 cubic ft. I can check later today if you're really interested, at work now so I can't look into it at the moment.

      Michelle Di Biase it's 7.1! Just checked. It has the bump inside for the motor and pumps and all that junk, but I use that for cases and loose beers. You could also put your co2 tank on that part.

    What is the set temp?

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kyaw Thuya at the moment it’s about 40 degrees Celsius so it accounts for warming to the glass when poured. I have the probe zip tied to a corona bottle if that helps. Cold enough to stay cold when poured, but not disturb the warming process for flavor and aroma

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyaw Thuya Fahrenheit omg sorry, I’ve had a few beers. I’m in America, we measure in Fahrenheit! Sorry 40 degrees Fahrenheit

    • @BurmeseExplorer
      @BurmeseExplorer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sicklerbrews2852 Yeah I understand. :D. 40C is not appropriate. So it is about 4C. Could be any problem if we want to keep at about 35F?

    • @sicklerbrews2852
      @sicklerbrews2852  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kyaw Thuya i think it depends on the beer style. IPAs don’t do well because it, for lack of better terms, gets freezer burned. I feel when it’s too cold, it takes a lot of flavor out and throws off the experience. I usually brew stouts and ipas. If you’re filling it with colors and Miller, have at it. But more complex styles require a little warmer storage. By the time it hits the glass and is ready to drink it’ll be about 43-45 degrees if stored at 40 degrees. Google the serving temp for the styles you plan to serve
