Great build, you can use rubbing alcohol to smooth out the clay before baking to remove the finger prints

Building a costume for a Larp and wanted a bear skull incorporated. Saw this video while I was looking for ideas and didn't notice it also happened to be a bear. JUST WHAT I NEEDED! Thanks, Kit!!!

Watching you make this. Just reminded me that I made my own Druid armor before as a kid. I found a tree that was dead and dying and was able to Peel the bark off of it. I had a pine tree bark chest plate and shield.

    1. I come for the dad jokes and stay for the builds so good job.
    2. there is a liquid form of sculpey that you can get that is PERFECT for gluing the clay pieces together both before and after they are baked. I just found it by mistake a month ago and I'm having a lot of fun with it.
    3. Oreo looks like an awesome dog. you should make him a costume...
    4. check your mic!

Thank you so much for this video! I'm working on a bird character and this is helping me with my mask build. Already completed the wire and clay part, now I just need to bake it. 😅 wish me luck.

I just spent hours on the wiring just to end up throwing the whole thing in the trash because my wire wasn't strong enough and it completely collapsed under the weight of the clay. It looks so cool in the video and now i feel like crying

As an alternative to sculpey, which is expensive, "cold porcelain" might work. I've used it a lot to make fake teeth and small bones and skulls. It dries super hard and can be drilled and sanded and painted. It also dries with a bonelike color too and is very light. And it is dirt cheap to make. The biggest drawback though is that it has a crazy shrink rate. I did some testing and the shrink rate is 20% to 25%. The variation comes from inconsistent batches, I'm not a stickler for exact measuring unless it's something I'm baking.
    The recipe I use is:
1 cup of cornstarch (or cornflour, it's the same thing)
1 cup of white school glue
2 teaspoons oil ( I use baby oil, but other oils like linseed oil or vegetable oil can be used)
    2 teaspoons vinegar
Use at least a 2 quart pot that can never be used for cooking food in again...ever(I found a great heavy bottomed one from goodwill for $10)
A very thick and sturdy wooden or metal spoon (wrap a cheap rag around the handle and duct tape it, or use something else to make that handle thicker, you will be doing constant stirring and this will keep your hands from cramping when this stuff starts to thicken)
A small cutting board for kneading that will never be used for food again...ever
Add all the ingredients to the pot OFF the heat and stir until smooth and there are no lumps.
Put the pot on medium heat and start stirring. Do not stop stirring. Soon the mixture will begin to thicken and stirring will become more difficult, but don't stop stirring until the mixture starts to pull away and leave a film on the bottom of the pot.
When that happens take it off the heat and spoon it out onto the cutting board that has been rubbed with hand lotion, any lotion will do.
Rub lotion on your hands and start kneading while the mixture is still hot...but don't burn yourself you don't have to rush.
Knead until it is smooth and has reached a consistency you like.
If it is too sticky knead in a little cornstarch at a time until it isn't sticky anymore.
Don't even try to clean the pot. Leaving the film on the bottom is ok and wont come off with regular washing anyway I don't think. I've never cleaned my pot and have made several consecutive batches without any burning or scorching. Just don't get in a hurry and think that cranking the heat will make it go faster, it won't and you will have a disaster on your hands. Just be patient and enjoy the workout your arms and hands are going to get lol, seriously this stuff gets very hard to stir at the end.
Edit: I forgot to add that to store this stuff you really should put it in a zip top bag and force out as much air as you can before sealing it. I double bag mine since it make be several days between the times I use it.

what clay did you use to make the face of the skull?

  • @bird_babe804
    @bird_babe804 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

is it just me, or is the wiring part _really hard_? i don't have a face cast which probably adds to it but it's super hard to get a good 3d shape that actually fits and works.

Only 3 things I saw wrong-ish with the mask. 1: you missed a spot on the claw marks with the glow paint. That may have been a result of the filming, too. 2: You may wand to open the eye sockets more towards the nasal ridge. You otherwise lose a lot of field of view directly in front, especially at close range, i.e. arm's length. 3: The claw marks look a little too regular. Maybe reference some images of animal/human claw marks. Otherwise, this is an outstanding build.

So just a thought since you are using blood symbols it made me think about the DnD class Blood Hunter... but mixed with a druid. Could be why the Druid character is becoming corrupted. By being a Druid and mixing in the Blood hunter it might cause a conflict of character of being one with nature... Almost like how in The last Air Bender the Water Bender lady slowly started to lose her sanity by becoming a Blood Bender
Also how much Clay did this take??
