- How to Make a Dog Skull Cosplay Mask perfect for a Skullie, Fursuit, Druid armor, Werewolf costume or Masquerade. In this video I go over all of the steps it takes to fabricate your own eva foam dog skull mask with a moving jaw!!! There are also free pdf patterns available over on my website that you can download and build right along with me. This is the kind of project you can make right before Halloween for a party or masquerade. But you can also take your time and really distress the foam and foam clay to look like bone or flesh! I also show how I added details using my line of Foam Clay and hand painted it with acrylics.

I know a lot of people use a crumbled up ball of aluminum for bone/skin texturing, but I really like using a pumice stone ;)
That works fine in oil or bake clay but wont hold the details on foam clay because it expands some as it dries then shrinks as the moisture wicks out. So any details you add have to be more dramatic when applied
@@SKSProps well yeah with anything expanding. But then you always get the neat after effects of all the wrinkling to make some neat skin effects with the foam after it has contracted :)

I’m working on a mask for a school project and although I’ll be doing a deer skull and not a dog skull it’s still helpful because I do kinda want to try having a lower jaw to it

i just want to say that it is just amazing. Whole my life i was watching videos with master works. Dioramas, cosplays, dollmaking etc, and everytime it was just like "eeeww....too hard" or "dont have materials"/ But i wanted skulldog so much, im not even furry, but when i saw how expensive are they i was just like "okay if i had as much money - i ve absolutely bought one'. 3 weeks i was looking for a tutorial, first time even seen this and was just like ''again to hard''. But i was so dissapointed with fact that there is no more good tutorials so i decided to do it. I still have no foam, but ive done it with cardboard and polymer clay and im so happy, im so proud of myself, first time in my life ive done something from ''that masteric artists videos''. Just want to say thank you for pdf and your amazing work
can admit that polymer + cardboard done a little mor fraigle result, I’ll think about how to seal the cardboard from the inside, maybe I’ll throw a piece of linoleum or fabric soaked with super glue inside, in theory it will be like a stone😁

I love how you painted it, but can you make one where the bottom jaw splits in two? I haven't seen that anywhere.
I know im supposed to use foam for this, but im gonna try it with cardboard since ive done the deer skull one with cardboard twice. It was so much fun doing it with cardboard, my brother thought it was cool too
Use whatever you want, but foam would be much easier to work with and a lot more durable
@SKSProps definitely. I just tend to have a bit of cardboard around, but I'm absolutely gonna make it with Eva foam when I get some

you can use eva foam! and it's super cheap! i made my mask with less than a dollar

I used this hinge method on a tokoyami mask for a friend of mine, but the bottom beak section was too loose (it kept falling down), it is because the foam I used was not thick enough; or possibly due to the weight of the 3/4th chicago screws do you think? (I used two thinner layers I had stuck together but might have been only 4-6mm total after?)
Probably has more to do with the position of the rubber band. You can also use springs for a stronger pull

I'm trynna make a bird skull or deer skull for Halloween, and want a moving jaw function, at the end of the day I'm a beginner with these sorts of things so I'll prolly just make a helmet

Wha should I do if whenever I tried to move the jaw while wearing it but the upper skull keep on moving up and down
have the upper skull more snug and the brackets for the lower jaw more loose

I previously had attempted to make a Thylacine mask with a moving jaw but found that the bottom jaw was not going to work so i realized thylacines and wolfs skulls look similar. So im making a wolf skulls then adding on deatails and covering it with fabric to make it look like a thylacine
please make a crow skull version that would be so cool
