Gordon is the BEST!!! He celebrated 50 years at the organ last summer. This is an old recording. The organ has been greatly enlarged and two years ago over 4,000 pipes were sent to OH for restoration and new wind chests. Then the space directly behind the choir loft was reorganized and new infrastructure built. Over 13,000 pipes now and never sounded better. It’s my favorite place to be. Please check out many more of my videos.

What a place and what an organ. I sang in this place many years ago as a young boy. Clarence Dickerson was the organist. After I sang he played little David play on your harp.

I find the music much more moving than the lyrics, especially when performed on a massive organ.

My favorite place. The recording is nothing like being there. The power is beyond words. It’s over 13,000 pipes and being enlarged again before June. Go look at my other videos where Gordon explains.

At anytime, this majestic organ can drown out the combined voices of over 4000 worshipers. It can and literally has caused the floor to vibrate.

It holds around 6,500. I get chills just thinking about it. My favorite place ever!

Sometimes, I think Praise Bands attempt to replicate this thinking it's cool. Unfortunately, it does not work so well. Especially, this instrument! Always believe that there is a certain point of reverence and music that you can hear, & a bar does not really qualitatively/quantitatively replicate Praise to the Lord. Guess I am a fuddy duddy and pleased to be one. The Ocean Grove instrument under Mr. Turk has always provided stirring of the soul.

@@stwbill From someone who was brought up Anglican and doesn't MIND praise bands- it is agreed there is indeed no comparison- the organ is in a class all of its own- no other instrument can give such rise and majesty to such a hymn and many others- even "A mighty fortress is our God." It's a rare experience I've seen for a praise band with drums, guitars and all play WITH a pipe organ. That alone is the best combination of a worship band. Though it wouldn't take much for the pipe organ to take over. 😁

After listening to this with great satisfaction- the cones of the main speakers in the sound system now crackle a little more. Enough said.... :D 😁

Lol. I blew up a set of vintage 150 w. I was playing hark the herald angels sing. They couldn’t handle the last verse. Sounded like a car backfire in the living room. My ears rang for some time after lol.

Can’t wait to hear the organ in July. Just completed reorganization of over 4,000 pipes directly behind the choir loft and expansion. All new wind chests.

I just hope funds become available to restore the Convention hall organs. Last I heard they are pretty much unplayable. So glad the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting takes care of their organ. Got to my my favorite!
You should read this guys comment on my other video "O God Our Help In Ages Past" Couldn't believe it!

For the entire first half I was scratching my head thinking I don’t recall this piece being Crown Him with Many Crowns. I didn’t recognize the intro but yes, I certainly know the actual lyrics. Beautiful hymn.

Feel sad that in our Church, St James Church, Kolkata there was a three manual pipe organ. We had a gifted organist, late Alan Ambett. After his death there were nobody really to take up the baton. Gradually the magnificent instrument deteriorated and now is totally non functional.

This sounds a bit conventional to be a Hope-Jones instrument, which tended to defy all conventional wisdom about organ building.

    • @hopejonesfan

The original organ was like 15 ranks I believe. The rest was planned and enlarged over the years. I read somewhere that they were adding to it again this past summer. I have not heard any more about it. Last count 10,823 pipes, that was after the echo division was added.

Nothing like Crown Him with many Crowns initially. An organist showing off. A beautiful hymn ruined.

What’s the point in having one of the largest organs in the world and not using it to its fullness? Trust me, it was played to the Glory of God!!!
