I just bought this camera yesterday, and while over the years I've had probably close to 20 cameras,I've had the HX5,HX9, and HX20. I've taken some photos that were even better printed than they showed on the screen. I'm looking forward to the 50% increase in zoom and the 360° panoramic shot. I like sticking with this model line because I've got the menu system down for quick shots. My biggest problem on the HX30 was that sometimes the flash would cast a shadow on pictures. I hope the new flash placement on the HX50 eliminates that.
I've had to send in my HX30V twice to get dust off of the imaging sensor, and now it has dust on it again, and it's out of warranty! I always keep it in a case, and I never put it in my pocket without the case. I need to replace it, so I wonder if they improved the dust resistance of the HX50V.
Hey Soldier what do you think is the best "tough" compact camera? Mostly need it for pool/beach/clubs during my vacation video. Also pictures, but not as much as video. Thanks!
Even though I hate The Heat, I've got to express admiration for this video review. The only thing I'd like to see that isn't included is how the sound quality compares for live concerts. Is it better to shoot with the wind setting on or off? Besides this nitpicky point, I've got to say that the review is great. I really got a feel for the zoom stills, the lowlight capabilities and the video output. Thanks so much.
The HX50V now sells for around $300. I purchased mine for 329. I also own a Canon T4i and a Canon XSi with many many lenses. Now I carry the Sony HX50V everywhere I go. Yes the display is a pain and low light performance could be better but overall it takes very good photos. The zoom is fantastic. Rock steady at 30X zoom. A great pocket camera to have around.
Hi, I love the camera but when the sun is out the 3" LED turns into a mirror, There's no way to aim at something. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks.
Hi, I have a question. You say the lcd screen ''still'' sucks in direct sunlight, but in your review of the hx30v you said the lcd was pretty decent/good in bright light. Is the lcd screen really unuseable in sunlight or is it still okay?
I'm having problems know what settings to use. Going to a Con event and want to take pics from distance. What settings should I use? Tried this before and it was hit and miss. Hope you or anybody can help. Thanks.
I got this the other day on special, and I can tell you guys it ain't bad for the price! Since the sensor is small the pictures are quite as clear as say shots from an rx100 when zoomed in, but they are still awesome all the same. Also, it does take 15mp stills when taking video, but not at the highest quality (still 1080p though)
I film on this camera and I find that I like it a lot cause it is easy to travel with, but the one think I hate is the quality of light when filming. When going from picture mood directly to filming the brightness level drops quiet a bit.
***** They all have + and -, now it all depends on what you really need. I personally would go for the HX50 because of the video proprieties, FullHD with 60 p.
i have just started taking pictures over the last year,i mean photography not phone cams but it takes me forever to get used to all the gdgets on the menu.but ive researched this cambefore its a lil out of my price range as im not a proffessional but it has to be 1 of the best on the market at the moment, especially for beginners.
look at full sized images and the noise levels are high even at ISO 80 and even at that level there is evidence of software noise reduction taking place. the lens is poor quality as it has significant fringing and barrel distortion which is corrected in camera (though the signs of it are present as you get edge blurring and distortion in the noise showing significant lens correction. the sensor has a significant loss of high frequency detail at ISO80, worst than many $150-200 cameras.
if zoom is important get this, but this is not a "pro" camera. #1 requirement of "pro" would be interchangeable lenses, 2nd would be ability to shoot in RAW format. This camera doesn't do either, the T3i does both but can't zoom w/o expensive lenses. The advantage of the T3i is that is has a much larger sensor so that the images are better but you'll still get nice shots with this. If you want nice large prints get the T3i, if you want to zoom get the HX50V.
MIKE AMAZING VIDEO AND MADE MY DOUBTS CLEAR YO I THINK THIS WAS PROBABLY YOUR IDEA AND BTW IT'S WAS TRUELY HELPFUL AND YEAH NEVER GIVE UP!!! THERE'S ALWAYS A WAY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER !!!
not really, different cameras different purposes. you wouldnt be able to have that focal range in dslr without spending quite a bit. of course the tradeoff in this case is the tiny sensor. i had a dslr and while its great its just too big for me now. thats why im going mirrorless, most likely nikon v1 or some olympus pen. id rather sacrifice the sensor size over the ability to have the camera anywhere anytime
Really enjoyed your up-beat approach :-) I am torn between this Sony Cyber-shot HX50V & the Panasonic Lumix tz40 being that I want GPS functionality. My concern is battery life...(GPS drainage). My other camera is the Canon 650d (I do like the touch screen). Thanks for the review Cheers Dave (in the UK)
hi David, i have the same problem as yours. im so confused between these two (Sony Cyber-shot HX50V & the Panasonic Lumix tz40) So... whch one have you bought? thanks before :)
If I had the money, I would probably get this just for the zoom. Smartphones are good enough for the pictures I take without zooming. And my phone in particular has the best 8MP shooter I've ever seen. Its a LOT better than the GS3 that still has a really solid camera on it
Neither this or a T3i is a professional camera.. You can buy seperate zoom lenses for the Canon. Sony will take better photos than the standard T3i kit.
Razor4ever Best quality in this price range comes from entry level DSLRs. But if you want something compact, and you like to shoot videos, nothing beats a Sony. Their image stabilization (for video) is worlds better than anything else out there!

yeah, i have two of these HX50V cameras...and they are EXCELLENT
The zoom is insane! Great review!
Please help, I was about to buy the Sony WX300 till I saw this review. Any experience with that camera vs the HX50V? Now im confused lol
I've had to send in my HX30V twice to get dust off of the imaging sensor, and now it has dust on it again, and it's out of warranty! I always keep it in a case, and I never put it in my pocket without the case. I need to replace it, so I wonder if they improved the dust resistance of the HX50V.

Hey you said that it was not the best camera within its price range i was just curious what is the best?
What was that app you used to pair your camera to your iPhone. Also can you zoom and refocus via the app while taking video? Thanks so much!

you mentioned its a usb port but its more than that, its a multi termnal port, you can hook up a remote timer, intervalometer etc..
Soldier i really need to know, what is the best point and shoot in terms of image and video quality? PLEASE RESPOND!!
What was the mic that he put on the camera?
can you do a review of any of the nikon 1 cameras? and then maybe do a comparison with this camera or any other camera of the same category.
I love how clear the picture is even though your zoomed in all the way
Hi, I love the camera but when the sun is out the 3" LED turns into a mirror, There's no way to aim at something.
Any help would be appreciated... Thanks.
Hi, so i want to buy this camera, i had the HX20V and i loved the 3D feature but i see it's not on this one, any thoughts on that??? thanks!
What panel brightness number did you use?
1, 2, 3, 4, or 5?
The level 5 is very bright.
I am no photographer but I bought this camera, its pretty cool. I am impressed with it. Thank you Soldier!!
Hi, I have a question. You say the lcd screen ''still'' sucks in direct sunlight, but in your review of the hx30v you said the lcd was pretty decent/good in bright light. Is the lcd screen really unuseable in sunlight or is it still okay?
+Jannick Hamberg I have this one. It's pretty bad in sunlight. I can barely see it.
What do you think about this camera, compared to the Sony DSC-HX9V that you tested?
Great review!! Game 7!!! That's awesome! Just ordered mine from amazon. The camera's 2 years old, but it's still amazing. Looking forward to it.
Does anyone know what mic was attached to the hot-shoe at 1:19?
hi.i buy canon sx710hs camera .can you please tell me if it is like this sony camera especially in zoom or not ?

I'm having problems know what settings to use. Going to a Con event and want to take pics from distance. What settings should I use? Tried this before and it was hit and miss. Hope you or anybody can help. Thanks.

Yo aren't there phones with dslr quality camera's comming out? dunno if true
6:07 Soldier you old dogg, thanks for the great shots :P
Would you recommend Sony WX300?
I film on this camera and I find that I like it a lot cause it is easy to travel with, but the one think I hate is the quality of light when filming. When going from picture mood directly to filming the brightness level drops quiet a bit.
I use this camera for my concerts videos/Photos. Really good camera for what ya pay for.
Can it capture photos while recording video?
hey what do you think is the better camera, nikon p330,cybershot hx50 or the pentax mx-1
***** They all have + and -, now it all depends on what you really need. I personally would go for the HX50 because of the video proprieties, FullHD with 60 p.
what camera did you use to shoot this review?
I can still see the top Mac UI on your BSOD
Can u make a review in the nikon D3200 ???
Soldier, are you a South Florida native?
i have just started taking pictures over the last year,i mean photography not phone cams but it takes me forever to get used to all the gdgets on the menu.but ive researched this cambefore its a lil out of my price range as im not a proffessional but it has to be 1 of the best on the market at the moment, especially for beginners.
Damn Soldier! You should've mentioned you were coming here to Miami!!
what is the aperture?
Nixon dslr's reviews?
Do you live in Miami??
You can find sample pictures of any camera by searching in google. Try "*camera name* sample photos"
I just bought this camera 2nd hand on EBay for $100AUD. Great camera for what I want it to do. Nice easy to use camera.

Great review as always.
How is this compared to the Lumia 1020.
Wow, that zoom is amazing

I dont like how the flash pops up like that...it is very vulnerable..i like how its automatic on my 30v
cut a iphone matte screen protector and stick it onto the lcd so you can see stuff in the sun?
the zoom is really good !!
so this camera or playstation 4
MIKE AMAZING VIDEO AND MADE MY DOUBTS CLEAR YO I THINK THIS WAS PROBABLY YOUR IDEA AND BTW IT'S WAS TRUELY HELPFUL AND YEAH NEVER GIVE UP!!! THERE'S ALWAYS A WAY ONE WAY OR ANOTHER !!!
Make a review of nokia 1020 when its out Please!!!
creepy stalker phone.
For a compact 30xZoom cam, this is pretty awesome..
This looks like a good camera to slot below my T2i.
is the zoom noisy? my samsung 250f isnt
Not on the 30V
Wow you live in Florida
u need to upload more.
not really, different cameras different purposes.

The soldier scope skills.
That's expensive it cost as much as the nx3, however the zoom is cool. Your seats at the heat game was terrible, but least you were there.
It seems like a very solid camera indeed
Really enjoyed your up-beat approach :-)

Best camera under $500?
great review!
This is my favorite concerts photo/video camera :)
What if i wanted a best quality picture camera in this price range, what would You reccomend me ?
Subscribed to Your chanel :)

The reason you can't have both compactness and quality is because quality needs larger sensors, and with larger sensors come larger lenses.
Razor4ever Best quality in this price range comes from entry level DSLRs. But if you want something compact, and you like to shoot videos, nothing beats a Sony. Their image stabilization (for video) is worlds better than anything else out there!
Why don't you buy a Canon EOS instead?
You went to Game 7!?!!?
the Zoom Looks amazing
Impressive.
Excellent zoom
My HX50V has only one built-in language and that is Japanese. How can I change this from English?
Thanks so much!
omg you must have alot of cameras from doing all of these reviews!
the zoom is impressive
Soldier pleasing his fans at 6:01 lol
Nice zooming
Wow this is crazy for a camera to do this
The soldier really knows best! IYKWIM
Damn my camera can only optical zoom to 10x. Maybe I should upgrade.
This dude is awesome!
he went to the finals, so damn lucky
Wow good zoom
