    The problem I was having was with the selector wheel on the right which lets to select diff modes.It used to dance between various modes and never settle.I was at my wits end about what to do.I was even thinking of junking the camera.Then I saw your video.I i opened the first 8 screws.Pulled out the ribbon cable from the control wheel board.Took it out and dunked it into a cleaning solution called Elma.Its ammonia based I think.they use it to clean watch parts.Should be easily available online.So i dipped my board into that liquid.Turned the round selector wheel round and round atleast 40 times.Washed it clean with water.Let it dry under a hair dryer on medium settings for 4 minutes...and put it back in.VOILA !! The thing works perfectly now !! THanks a ton man !!

    Hi :-) . I can't thank you enough for the info contained in this video. It gave me the confidence to do something I would never have dared do without it........take a modern camera apart !! My Sony Cyber-Shot HX60 had a lens that was stuck shut. I disassembled the camera as you showed, and had a good poke around with the lens and put it back together. Unfortunately, that didn't work. So I had nothing to lose and had a brain wave. Why not take it apart again, and just wire the camera's 3.6 volt battery directly across the lens drive motor terminals ?? Worked a treat, and out popped the lens, couldn't believe it !! Reverse the polarity on the terminals to get the lens to go back in. Put the camera back together and hey-presto.....works a treat !! Thanks again :-)

    Hey, thanks for this video. My Sony DSCHX50 was dropped with the result that the lens cover shutter would not open fully. I tried blowing air into it, slipping in a bit of paper etc, as this had worked with a previous camera, but no joy. At the end of the next video, in which you tear down the HX50 lens you have just replaced, you mention that at the end of the zoom lens is an aluminium cover glued on that can simply be prized off. So I took out my trusty Swiss Army knife and slipped the blade in between the plastic rectangle and the aluminium cover and started wiggling it around (parallel with the glass), until the cover started to move. Once I got it off, dusted it down and put it back on again, the problem was fixed, I don't know why it worked, the aluminium may just have been bent out of shape slightly, putting pressure on the shutter mechanism. Thanks for the tip!

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Al Katraz Films Glad it helped, I should have shown that aluminum cap and how it comes off. it just got two sticky tapes on it and if you just put some heat on the top near the tape and pull it comes off. them lens shutter things have a very light springs on them and dont take much to stop them from working.

    I've just had to hack a repair to my HX50; thanks for your videos! In my case it looks like it was the ribbon from the board to the lens - as soon as I removed the metal plate it started working - and failed again as soon as I put the ribbon back in place. Letting the ribbon unfold upwards and it was OK; hmm - so I've bent it back the opposite way - underneath the PCB (removing the shell of the HDMI connector to make space) - and it's working; who knows for how long. What a bizarre over folded ribbon arrangement!

    Hello friend, thank you so much for sharing this video, my hx50v dropped and thanks to your video i was able to replace the lens, But now after a couple of days of fixing it i have a problem with the flash, when taking pictures the flash light is not working anymore can you please help, what do you recommend i should do? Should i replace the flash? Thank you

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might have snagged the flash cable when placing the lens in the body, look at frame 8:40 in this video you can see the flash cable, it runs across the top from the flash to the motherboard. You might have to take it back apart and check this cable. There would be no other reason for the flash to stop working after removing the lens. The flash cable is long enough to raise the motherboard as i did in this video. But if the lens snagged it....It could damage it or pull it out of its connection on the motherboard. Did you notice anything when placing the lens in the body? like it had problems going in.

    Hi watched your video - very helpful thanks! After dropping the camera and breaking the lens I sent for a replacement lens, fitted this using your video which was pretty straightforward, when I came to switch the camera on afterwards. It would not turn on. Took it to pieces, swapped new lens for old one. Still would not turn on, checked battery - full of charge. Replaced with new lens again tried and checked 4 times. Checked all power cables still won't turn on! Can you give me any advice/ideas? Thanks for any advice!

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      did you pull up on the motherboard to much? there is a power cable on the back side if you pull up to much it might come out. its a push in cable which means no flip retainer it just pushes in. the power cable comes from the battery/card slot compartment ( at top ) then folds slightly and pushes in at the top motherboard from the back side. ( in between the motherboard and battery compartment )

    Outstanding video. I dropped my camera and now the camera displays error 13:01. If I remove the SD card, there is no error. The SD card is good. It appears that a connection came loose or a component has been damaged. With the aid of your video, I am thinking of disassembling the camera. Any thoughts?

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vic Tree the card slot has no ribbon cable it is solder on the main board.
      got this off another help site :
      This error usually is generated because there is an issue with the contacts on the Memory Stick - do you have another Memory Stick to test? If it's only one Memory Stick with this issue check the contacts and rub them gently with a pencil eraser if necessary. Insert and reinsert the card several times to see if this clears the error. If you are still having the issue after this, and you get the same result with another Memory Stick the camera may need service so give Sony support a call and they will be happy to help:

    • @victree692
      @victree692 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Otherstuff Thank you for the reply. I still see the error with a different card. The card that was in the camera, when it was dropped, is accessible in a PC. With no card in the camera, I can take pictures with the internal memory.

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vic Tree try this, with the camera on slowly push the card in and see if it reads it at some point. i had some do this its was the connection inside the card slot got bent.

    Hi, nice video.
    I have one HX50V that started to show no image like yours. It turn on, open the lens and no image is shown. The zoom operates normally and it is able to show pictures on SD card and etc. I tried to connect it to my smartphone and again only black screen.
    I'm suspecting there is a problem on the CCD sensor, not on the lens. I didnt found any CCD for sale, just the lens.
    Do you think that could be the issue ? Its viable to buy a new CCD ?

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guilherme Coelho its not the CCD if its able to show a picture on the SD card. might just be the ribbon cable connections to the LCD backlight. I have had cameras loose connection from the connection getting " frosted " is what i call it. if you look in the video at the gold connection on the LCD you will see they are shiny gold. I have had some that look frosted and loose connection do to moister. once they are cleaned the cameras would work.

    • @TheGrcoelho
      @TheGrcoelho 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Otherstuff I thinks its not the situation, because the LCD works fine. I'm able to see pictures on the LCD from SD card and the backlight works normal. The problem really is that no image from the sensor appear on the screen, and I'm not able to take any pictures.
      Its like the camera is looking for the CCD sensor but its not getting any data from it. The rest of the camera works like the zoom motor and the lens opening. The problem is that no picture from the CCD appears.
      Maybe its the case of some moisture on the flat from CCD sensor. Even keeping it into a bag with silica, it was really used in a rainy day the last time it worked.
      I will look for the tools to open it and check the flat cables.

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guilherme Coelho Oh.. i thought you meant it takes pictures and will show them on the SD card. then its either the lens or CDD and it might just be the Lens iris is stuck, with the camera on try bumping the camera on each side with the palm of your hand. then zoom the lens all the way out and do it again.

  • @juliomorales7385

    • @daves.projects

      The shutter button is a two stage button, one soft "click" ( to lock focus ) you will hear the focus lock audio "beeps" , then a hard "click" to take the picture. do you feel both of these actions? ( button could be jammed ) do you hear the audio focus lock beeps? Has the camera been near moisture? ( cables could have got frosted ) Any body damage been dropped? First go to setting and try to " Initialize " the camera.

I think that lens is just like the hx200 or hx300 lens. but yes i do sometime help repair peoples cameras, i have a rx100 II coming in the mail someone wants me to replace the lcd cable on it.

    I have found a seller on Ebay, selling lens units for £35 from China. Will a HX60V lens fit in a HX50V camera unit?

      I think 60v has GPS the rest should be the same but you can find for the HX50 too.

    Hi @Otherstuff. - I did the ultimate mistake. When taking everything apart as instructed , I reached the part at 2:31 where I had to unplug the Control Board. The connecting ribbon broke off ! The head of the ribbon which goes to the back of the control board split!
    My model is a DSC HX5v which has a flimsier board connector than the one you have.
    Please let me know how to fix this issue :-)

    I cleaned the lens, and when I put everything back together it wont turn on. I have tried changing all the cables by reversing them, and the camera is completely dead. Would a bad lens cause a complete no-power? Or somthing else?

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      "changing all the cables by reversing them" i dont know why or how you could do this. but no you should never do that. the main power cable is behind the motherboard check it to see if maybe you pulled it out. i dont see how but check it.. its very tight fit cable with no retainer.

      Hello, I did a search for "sony hx-60 lens replacement" on Ebay UK and it only came up with one source in Europe (Italy) which would cost approximately £51(p&p) where as there were local second hand cameras I could bid for within the UK which may or may not work out cheaper or the same price. This might be similar for people in other countries. Good luck to others hoping to replace the lens!

    I replaced the flash on my hx50v now it doesn't want to power up. I checked the ribbbon cables over & over again. & When I press the power button sometimes a little red led flashes by the little wire to the lcd screen on the motherboard.

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +stingray4me that red led is the memory card read/write led, check the control cables, the one at the top.

      +stingray4me Did you remove the top control panel and the battery compartment? I bet its either the power cable or the control cable to the motherboard. I might be able to look at it.

    • @stingray4mesidewinderbandga
      @stingray4mesidewinderbandga 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Otherstuff No I didn't try to remove the battery compartment or top control panel.. I'll try that now.

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +stingray4me on the other side of the motherboard there is the power cable, remove the lens cables so you can just flip the motherboard to check the power cable. the power cable just slides in there is no flip retainer.

  • @nito85

    Hi, I have a problem, I watered few water in backpack and my cam and apparently superficially wet casing so I dried it superficially and then turned on normally (I thought it was not wet) but the display looked so turned it off and then I removed the battery but then put them again (I won anxiety) and the display looked dull colored but as dark and took a test shot. After I turned it off and I forgot to get the batteries (I know it's stupid) and several hours after I got home and saw to checarla display ***** looked back but the light was on, and the rest It worked perfectly. I took the pile and felt warm. I removed the memory card and check the computer and the pictures are perfect, the zoom, flash and everything. I disassemble a bit and the humidity sensor was marked but could not see anything wet. I was watching in Aliexpress several displays for my camera from 12-20 dollars (seems very cheap to 921000 pixels) and with good grades. Before buying I wonder if there is any way to tell if the problem is display or something else more serious. Recall that the backlight works. I hope you can help me, I would appreciate it.

      +Johann Quintanar if the pictures come out good on the computer but look bad on the cameras lcd then its the cameras lcd.

      +Otherstuff Thank's, I have another question. I have a small particle of dust inside the lens, It only apears when I use the zoom. If I need to disassemble the lens.. I have the HX30, it's the same than the HX50?

    • @daves.projects
      @daves.projects  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Johann Quintanar hx30 is NOT the same as the HX50. try a vac, with the vac and lens in your hand turn on the camera and zoom the lens as you cup the vac around the lens with your hand.
