Welcome to the It's Affordable Club how It's Affordable are ya?
Day 564 of asking Manly to play A Cold Love Story through TH-cam comments
Im like free at this point
Call it slayvery
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
Pretty affordable honestly
Might be basically free......
Love the idea of "leaks" at 4000m below sea level. At that depth if any water gets into the sub they're gonna be calling you the Titan II.
Yeah, it is sad how alot of game devs just ignore basic physics like that.
Gameplay > Realism
Reminds me of crushed testicles
Can you explain further what happens at 4000
@@cyberpunkdenton9497I believe it would be something along the lines of this: Extreme crushing pressure means that any breach in the hull that lets water in is going to basically crush the whole thing rapidly since the water is going to rapidly force as much space as it can as quickly as possible.
It surprises and amazes me that such a simple game as Iron Lung captivated so many people to such a degree that it has inspired so many videos/games and became such a staple of our time's indie game scene. The power of storytelling.
And soon even a movie!
"The Rusty Barrel" as a marine vessel name inspires about as much confidence as Grandia 2's "The 50/50".
"Oh this is looks like a normal ocean"
Famous last words 💀
Normal ocean is scary enough as it is.
As if that makes it any less terrifying. 😅
@@elio7610As a seasoned Europan sailor in Barotrauma, believe me when it can always be MORE terrifying.
@@Victoria_Bloodmoon I have a hate-love relationship with Barotrauma, I play it singleplayer and the bots are fricking braindead so it gets really annoying, not to mention I have a lot of very difficult mods, but I still come back to it again and again...
The dogs made me happy. One day we'll see a goose game that explains the backstory of the goose and how it keeps getting into and surviving each game.
How would you feel about a deep sea game where you play as a guy with a marine biologist and go through a couple different levels taking pictures of fish. I feel like that could be very relaxing and educational. Some of the levels could be reef, whale fall, and kelp forest all leading up to the Mariana's trench
Each time you take a picture of a new fish the biologist could give you some fun facts as well as some little facts about each area
Once it gets to the trenches you are in a lovecraftian nightmare
@@the_silliest_gooberlol exactly not like we'll get a game where everything is all cherry 😂 gotta have some under water horror
you wouldn't even have to change much. The fish down there are pretty crazy, all you would need to do is set the atmosphere
I don't know... I would definitely still be scared..
As Basically the Pressure of the Water.. as If the Sub I'm in Gets a *SINGLE* Crack or Tiny hole..
I'm Basically Imploding.. and that is not a good way to go out...
If I had a nickel for every time a horror game had an alternate dog-centric ending I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.
WOAH THATS SO FUNNY 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What was the first?
@@PRubin-rh4sr YEAH MAN THIS GUY MUST BE SOME SORT OF COMEDIAN!!! LIKE MY FAVOURITE AMY SCHUMER!!!!!!
@@cloakeddemon3207 I'm pretty sure he's referring to one of the silent Hill games, which has a secret ending where you go into a security room with a dog at the desk and the protag says something cheesy like "you, how could you... no! NO!" And then the game pretty much ends
yup same for the golf games lmao
I laughed quite hard at "7 days, or 1 human day"
Didn't expect to see an Iron Lung style game from Ken Forest, but it was solid. I do agree with Manly that the sheer doom of being stuck at the bottom of the ocean would be much more terrifying than a monster.
As for Something in the Well, it's quite short but it's got some good beats. The alt ending absolutely makes it.
Exactly, I feel like a lot of horror is better without a monster(the backrooms for example) because its a lot more scary to have a slow painful death either by hunger/thirst or by drowning/ the fire using up all your oxygen and making you suffocate, than to just be quickly ripped to shreds by a monster and everything is over before you even have time to get over the adrenaline or be afraid as the eventual doom sets in.
That's the best ending to a horror game ever, all games should end with a dog planet!
Yes 🥹
_Goose and dog_
I was smiling at goose in hat and suddenly heard "whale fall." I learned something lol. Angler fish are always weirdly scary, but agree would like to see trying to cope and prevent a slow suffocation death as psychological horror.
I'm glad there's a good ending in the 2nd game, at least.
The really fun part is that even if the submarine did not implode instantly, the extremely high pressure of the water would mean that the leak would actually come through like a laser of water, slicing through anything it touched.
I think it should go without explaining that you should not try and put your hand through the water stream.
that was the best dog ending i´ve seen
You clearly need to see Helltown's secret ending.
You know your evening will be great when there’s a video about Captain Manly in a submarine that’s most likely named ‘The Lost Soul’. 😁
Nothing's better than watching horror games video in the middle of the night 🤭
Exactly.
Yorokobe fellow FGO enjoyer, nice to see that you're a Manly enjoyer.
@@kailevil3444 Manly contents never disappoints. Yorokobe.
"I would like you to create a scenario in which I die a slow, agonizing death, please."- Manly, probably
I agree instead of a monster jump scare ending something more subtle and psychological would be nice I mean what's more terrifying than your sub losing power and you just sitting there helpless on the bottom of the ocean just waiting to slowly suffocate it's such a much more grounded fear so much actual palpable existential dread a lot less campy than eating by a monster like that would at least be a quick and relatively painless death if you're swallowed whole but what if you just had to sit there for hours contemplating your situation while you listen to your sub slowly be crushed by the pressure now that's real atmospheric dread real panic but I guess those are saved for more serious titles and these kinds of games are designed to be short slightly silly experiences
"Slowly being crushed", uhh, i think it would be very quick.
The real existential dread is reading this wall of text without a single punctuation sign.
@@JeanMarceaux😂
Bro use periods and commas my god
Honestly this is why I think Soma stuck with so many people, that ending was absolutely *harrowing*
Gotta love all the Iron Lung- inspired games coming out right now
So Ken Forest is the goose guy. I love the goose signature, every time I see one in your videos I get hype.
I don't why, but I find deep sea horror games more interesting
I too. Because it's the only place on earth that we still have almost zero knowlege of
I find the deep sea generally horrifying
Ah, I think SOMA really nailed that kind of ending, especially with the contrast it directly gave!
I came here looking for a player of indie horror games and I don't regret having found a gold mine on this channel
Second game is a cute little slice of horror; I like it. Simplistic, but it's style manages to cut out all of the usual meandering in short horror games. The reference to something called "The Infamous Hathoway Tapes" that leads nowhere but this game makes me feel like it might be part of an intended series, not an ARG but with a sort of homage to that kind of thing. Overall, a short little project taking from Silent Hill 1/2, The Blair Witch, and internet ARG/Analog horror concepts.
Thanks for saving me the trouble of looking for such tapes that do not exist 😅
This is not a normal ocean if there's whales at 4,000m. The deepest recorded whale dive was only 2,992m, over a kilometer shallower!
Isn’t there a seal or something that goes way deeper than most whales, even?
Oh boy, nothing better than start my day with a good ol’ Manly video
aluminium lung
The subnautica devs should make a horror game.
Well some People already consider it being one 😊
They already have. It's called Subnautica
Have you played subnautica? It's terrifying
They have two in fact
Below Zero also counts
If I had a nickel for every time I was in a shit can sub I'd have three nickels. Which isn't a lot but you'd think I'd know better after the first time.
Manly should make a game. I'd love to see what he would come up with.
I'd be interested in a game about a submersible which finds its way into strange aquatic ruins that turn out to be an alien ship? It wouldn't even have to be a horror game, per se though that would be the most interesting choice to me
That's subnautica
It took me a few moments to realize what exactly I was seeing at the end of the first game
But when I finally realized it
Sweet Toledo
Oh I just had a dose of horror. Bring on a submarine and it catches fire but the extinguisher is out so you need to choose between suffocating from the smoke, burning alive or drowning yourself. That seems like it would be kinda interesting as maybe a visual novel thing.
You should try voices of the void
It seems like a good fit for your channel
It is probably just too long/endless for this channel.
I feel like there was some potential in the "Rusty barrel" when you went past the extra narrow corridor. Like, imagine if instead of "Anglerfish ate you, the end" you just started going through a passage that gets extremely narrow. You start scraping the walls, start having to stop to patch the leaks that open. Then suddenly... you are stuck. your sub is not destroyed, there is no imminent Giant fish about to eat you. You are just... stuck. And you have no way out, besides waiting for the oxygen to run out... or to open the little locker and take out the revolver.
Also, you can even include an anglerfish in that one. Just make it so you have some sections in the dark where you have to follow the lights to find the safe passages, and one of those lights is actually the regular-sized anglerfish, that makes you go the wrong way and get stuck.
if it's Ken Forest, at this point, I AM IN.
Nothing goes wrong
*minutes later*
*DEATH*
man I wish I could go to dog planet
a chill diving game was made by Nintendo, Forever Blue/Endless Ocean (europe & USA had different names). I keep hoping for an HD version.
When you first got to the well I thought, "yeah there's something in my well, MY DOG!!"
Super video manly.
I actually read a fanfiction of iron lung that pretty much did what manly wanted! It built the dread and resignment really well, and actually had a happy ending lol
Play Endless Ocean 1 or 2 if you want relaxing Subnautica. Those game games are fun.
I am soo happy about the dog ending... it's the worst thing ever when the dog gets hurt in a video game
I definitely agree in wanting alternative death scenarios for deep sea exploration things. Submarines are pretty freaky already. One game could have a full crew with something suspicious show up on the radar, only for widespread panic to cause a disaster. Or lone exploration so far from any help that when something technically mundane happens, you're basically screwed. Or maybe something suspicious and sci-fi got past the filters and is in the ship with you, something microscopic but biological...
Cool to see an ending where the sub is damaged and slowly goes down the abyss as you see cracks slowly for on the glass, water leaks, bulk head caving in sounds and seeing it crush in ward, and the lights flickering and goo out slowly until you slowly water the glass cracking to the center, then the end
“Welcome to “Something in the Well”, a game where there’s something in your well.” Man, Manly’s getting real imaginative with these titles.
the second one reminds me a lot of no through road, i imagine it took some inspiration from that
1:37
Feesh? I love feesh. They are so goofy looking.
This video made me forget about the 5 Tests and 2 quizess I have tomorrow
I'd like to see an iron lung style game where you have to work against A clock counting down to you being crush by the pressure of the ocean.
There's an RPG maker horror game called Mermaid Swamp that I think you should test out. It has multiple endings and I feel it would be neat to see you cover it!
He's already played both the original Mermaid Swamp and the Remake!
@@starrymomoand now I feel old, that was a decade ago when he played the original, that game stuck with me ever since then
@@Skirish same! it's insane how much time has passed since the original... and even the remake is like 5 years old iirc...
@@starrymomo been watching him since I was a kid, and I always forget it's been "that" long
Many: something in the well
my dumbass: something in the waaaay
This feels more to me like it drew some ideas from Sinking Iron
"Subnautica without the killer alien fish" Have you played Endless Ocean? The second was my favorite and there's a new one coming this year!
I wonder if Mark will put a giant angler fish in the movie. Deepsea horror is always terrifying, especially done right. Whats lurking in the unknown darkness and coming from anywhere is pretty scary. Course wells can have a similar effect. they are like a cave from the depths of below. whatever could look down there would come out right at you and in front of you. Somehow knowing somethigs there and will beeline to you is also pretty terrifying, especially since you might not know how deep one is. Id like to see a giant isopod eating you as an ending. Dog planet sounds fun.
> ManlyBadassHero playing a horror submarine game
Me: Wait, pretty sure you played one but with no outside view other than sonar and pictures.
I really enjoy the fact that the welder in the game is a spool gun…
i love the well :)
Thank you mr manly
I have finally been the first to witness a Manly video
I love rusty barrel 😆
@Sample_Text. Got here at 19 seconds after posting 😆
Anyway Manly You should check out A House for Alesa 2 & 3
3 just came out recently. I love ya playing them
We all live on the yellow submarine
Yellow submarine
Yellow submarine
1:37 "Ah man feeesh"
Bruh, I really looked up the Hathoway Tapes expecting to find something.
This feels like if Iron Lung and Subnautica has a kid
second game has a timer in the bottom middle that ticks upward... but it loses a bit during a timeskip
Banjo Tooie had a big angler fish too. 👀
Nice vid
This reminds me of a rail shooter called ocean hunter
In the second game, the footage skips when you enter the well, when you exit the cave, and when the monster chase starts, all send you BACK in time.
Maybe with the added focus on submarine-based games we can see some other genres get in on that. Share some love with the RTS genre by making something like Submarine Titans again!
As an actual goblin I enjoy games where I don't have to leave my box
Angler fish and sharks are the most common sea monsters in games like these. And the occasional kraken.
The game that Ken Forest did where there's also a giant Anglerfish was Sprucerio (which the thing is literaly on the thumnail of the game on the itchtio page xD) , tho I do agree that it's getting boring that all the end are so similar in term of underwater based game ... Like you can always guess that something is gonna eat you at the end like it's the jumpscare trend but fish eat you type ^^' .
Little edit to add , that I LOVE the idea that you said here 12:20 ! It's could be idea for the end of a underwater horror game , like you slowly sink and lose hope that someone will find you and all , very dark to think tho cause that make me think of a event that happened oof ....
But eh it is a good idea still ...
For slow death, always enjoyed Tin Can. Not exactly under the ocean, but deep space.
1:51 I thought it said "crab" and was immediately confused and horrified
Waie up king posted
17:37 Well, that just happened!
Manly should totally play a game called fragile super epic
I feel the goose is an inside joke that only Ken Forest understands.
Edit: 7:20 smh manly doesn’t know the PASS procedure for using fire extinguishers
These Iron lung clones are just improved versions of the real one except they still feel lacking...maybe more depth to the story...an extension would be nice. For a rushed game done in only 2days this sure is fun even for the short time of exploring the game.
Improved?
@@TysonRex37 better lore despite having the same plot or close to it as the original's story. Manly played another Iron lung clone like this. That one had better explaination of what was happening in game.
The bunny graveyard is back
So many anglerfishes and krakens. It's time we have a new finale monster: giant mermaid waifu
You should play outer wilds, it’s surprisingly more scary than you’d think
Submarines drive like tractors.
Good duck! With a good hat!
So the theme of the game jam was "Limited Space" which I think was achieved
250k well spent

Iron Lung except you can see AND repair
Animal spoilers for those who need them: goose meets with a terrible fate, while it looks dire for the dog but everything is ok.
Reminds me of a certain incident that happened in real life.
It's almost as scary as being on the ocean Gates Titan😂
you can save the dog!
You shoud play pumkin panic !!!
Play abzu if you want a fun mostly relaxing underwater game
Guys I think the Hathoway tapes thing is the game within the game.
Like, I don’t think it was a real deal, just the game kind’ve adding another wall to the whole thing.
