I have a soft spot for games that follow through on helping a stranger, the "no good deed goes unpunished" trope gets tiring after a while
When the lack of a twist becomes the twist.
The twist bad endings for horror games are so common that Ironically having a genuine good ending turns out to be the biggest twist.
I mean they are horror games, bad things generally happen in them
@@maddieb.4282yeah, but it also just leaves the player unhappy at the end. Horror games with good endings are usually remembered more than the “everyone dies” games
@@maddieb.4282 I don't disagree, but I don't see why that requires goodness to be "defeated" in the end. There's lots of things that are scary that don't even touch on morality, so when the bad happens as a direct consequence of the good it just feels like a forced attempt to evoke a sense of being "truly evil", as if horror defaults to morality at it's base. That's not to say horror can't be based on morality, but the concept of that happening is very much a human-specific notion, as if our "humanity" might be seen as an offensive act to some entity. Maybe that works as a motive for any humanity-adjacent monster (e.g. society-scorned killers, entities from religion like demons or angels) but for anything else it just doesn't make sense to me for the entity to try to enact a sort of punishment without any further context (e.g. they were going to harm/kill you regardless, your kindness doesn't supersede their intents, they can't risk the danger of you being alive), because logically they have no reason to. If there's no reasonable explanation for why they're opposed to the protagonist's "goodness", then to me the monster is more of an "author's creation" than its own entity, and that just completely shatters a piece of horror.
TL;DR: Bad things happening and good things happening are not mutually exclusive, and if a monster feels TOO evil than makes sense, you start seeing it less as a monster and more of a creation of an author. A monster being reasonably kind is better than being unreasonably evil.
Also, the concept is just greatly overdone and annoyingly depressing imo. Just edgy.

I like that first ending because I was thinking, "Why would he betray you?" You literally give him what he wanted
While the other endings make it clear Mr. Lupin probably isn't... "ideal" to be around, I do rather like the true ending here. I appreciate when a horror game involving an entirely innocent lead actually gets a happy ending.
Interesting thing on the "True Friends ending" -- it looks like Mr. Lupin was wearing some sort of mask. His ears appear pointed in the silhouette, unlike in-game, and there's a dark circle around the size of what his face looked like right next to him.
Suzie is also depicted as being much older compared to the other ending. The box monster really did become a true friend.

Warning to people sensitive to flashing lights. After 12:54 theres a scene thats like a joke ending and it includes a lot of flashing lights.

A. Everyone should be taught to never talk to strangers
B. If a gift wrapped box doesn't have a tag or sticker indicating a "To:" or "From:" then you should assume it isn't your's to unwrap.
C. Everyone should be taught not to talk to strangers that are inside of gift wrapped boxes. Especially if they're not labeled that they are meant for You.
D. No one should be quick to accept cheese from a stranger who lives inside a storage unit.
And most importantly
E. If You know someone who has requested cheese from You more than 2 times in under 10 minutes since the start of your communications, they are not your friend. And should be either ignored or disposed of in the proper location.

Funny seeing this 14 minutes after it was uploaded, with 1.4k views on top of a runtime of 14 minutes.
I first watched this on a TV during a hotel vacation so I never noticed the name of the game. Now I saw the title and all I can think of is the bar Bungo Stray Dogs has in its series. Lupin is a real bar btw, just like many of the structures in BSD
