My second theory is that even her parents are trying to sell her cuz in the last part of the story even the teacher says that that's why your parents send you to me.
One of the things that instantly struck me in the game was the frequent imagery of flowers: something that can represent general beauty, femininity, and innocence, may also symbolize something much more unsettling. “Deflowering” means to take a girl’s virginity, which in this context also means a further defilement of innocence, because it is committed against a young, naive child.
I think that have a theory. The souls in the train could only represent something that involves in the protagonist lifetime. (Order is left to right) Little girl on the left could represent her innocence and her fear on her parents. Old guy next to her, I uh, you clearly know what that is. The third passenger probably represent her mother, since her husband is implied to be the deadbeat father on the tv. The person next to her is one of the ghosts and a victim who witnessed what happened to the protagonist. The last person represents her anger, depression and had pushed her to the point of taking the easy way out, if you know the term.
For everyone asking what the rabbit mask is supposed to represent: rabbits are often depicted as tricksters and irl are known for their fecundity. While these are usually characterized as playful attributes, this context suggests the darker side of them: deception (posing as harmless, being an authority or even just a stranger that one should be able to trust not to attack) and expectation of carnal knowledge (you know)
@@katrinedda1107 "flower" is also often a euphemism for sex workers in Japan and China (hence the title of Han Bangqing's novel, The Flowers of Shanghai, titled The Sing-Song Girls of Shanghai when translated to English because the English speakers wouldn't be familiar with the word play). Dude those sections with the teacher and the disgusting old man unsettled me so badly. The fact that there’s sickos like this out there in the real life who do this is what makes this game so ultimately terrifying.
Exactly. These are the kinds of people I was told to turn to if you were having problems. Teachers, doctors, policemen...etc. These days teachers are seducing students, doctors are doing inappropriate things with patients and policemen can be so corrupt. It's backwards, the world we live in. Smh.
@RusesOfFoxes which is good, having death in horror games is normal, and to be expected, while that's not. Not going to lie never saw it coming just from the title, I did get it at the first "pretty... pretty..." though.
I think it’s super disturbing that this is all from the same day. From the very beginning, the date was the exact same and we are slowly seeing the whole picture with subtle hints until the final scenes.
What throws me off is the fact he keeps calling her little one. It makes me angry and yet it just messes with me. They know what they're doing and they like it.
It gave me the vibes that maybe that was how she saw the world; her dad was doing nothing all day and she only ever saw him sat there, her mother just kept telling her to go to school, obviously the flower was a sort of metaphor for something else entirely. It also struck me that maybe the fact that it was the same day over and over was her reliving it, like a sort of trauma; always getting further into the real memory the longer it went on. Overall I understand why Manly described it as disturbing, that was quite uncomfortable to watch.
Considering what triggered the “flower,” I have to wonder if something similar happened to Ari’s dad. It’s common for men to suffer the same things from their own domestic partners, and it would explain why her household is like… that. Why her mom’s hand is depicted covered in blood, and why her father’s body seems destroyed that way - it doesn’t have to be literal. That’s what it feels like for some victims, and the fact that Ari isn’t in any position to help is also awful. He’s in no position to help her, either, if this is the case. What a good but yucky game.
My best guess would be that she has to work through this intense trauma before being able to pass on. Allegedly, ghosts are the spirits of people who died in horrible ways. Something about that traumatic experience ties them here, and they relive the experience over and over again until they can move on.
@@bigkahuna1919 Dang... that still seems harsh. I wonder if she actually moved on in the end. I'm not sure, the flower coming out of her eye might mean something though.

The general theme of the game is evident, but I still don't get what happened with the dad and why some people have the parasite flower and other don't, considering that everyone in the train had terrible experiences as well
The flower is just depression, despair, giving up. It's a parasite because it grows and lingers on you sapping strength and it "blooms" when you give in and well, give up on continuing life. The train section is mainly just artistic, remember the game is just a loop living your final day alive, the events on the train and in the alley and the dialogues are not literal but more of keys to what happened to you.

First I thought that this is really about a parasitic flower you have to defend yourself against. But after seeing this, the "flower" and the redness are much grimmer metaphors now...
This game had such a horrifying atmosphere. The whole time I was on the edge of my seat, just wanting to protect this kid. The first time they go to get the pen gave me such a feeling of dread.

Things like this are truly disturbing and for the horror genre of the game to portray that... elegantly; to say the least. Great job! I felt super bad after it.

It's all the same day, if you look at the date they're all the same day. I think the last "day" is what actually happened, and you're just seeing more of the truth a little at a time.
As soon as I saw we had an Omori-style face, I knew the twist was not that we're a happy kid with no worries. Gods, the urban poverty everywhere... grinds you down just watching it. And that moment of beauty when you walk through the woods each day doesn't do much to lighten the mood. A very atmospheric walking sim. (I know I'm getting old when my first thought is "why has nobody made this child a packed lunch?")
It'd be a packed dinner actually. At first I thought she was leaving early in the morning for school, but then I noticed that after the train ride the sky got darker. So she isn't going to regular school, she's going to cram school. Which is a thing in Asian countries where after going to regular school you go to another school. In Korea specifically (which I think is where the game takes place), there are some kids that don't even see their parents except on holidays.
@@TAMAMO-VIRUS Oh, that's an interesting insight. I'd vaguely heard of cram school, but didn't know how they functioned. ...So this poor kid is being sent across town alone in the _evenings,_ which feels even skeevier!

Ohh dear its one of those ones. I love me a good Disturbing horror game!! :D Its small and all, but I do appreciate Manly using "suspicious" over "sus" in this context. A delicate matter deserves some maturity. PARASITE FLOWER as a title name is now very on-the-nose now.
Well, I didn't see anyone commenting about it, but when she's searching the pen, the message which pops up is "the pen is not here", but when she find the guy with her pen it's implied "the pen is here", and that's really awful (if you didn't notice yet, focus on the second and third word). What a sad story...
Oh my god, I had no idea what the relevance of the pen was but it- Oh God, that is truly disgusting, especially since the other ending also ended up in the same thing but with a different person
I took this too literally and thought that the 2 scenes where she grows flowers on her were actual parasites, so I didn't think the creepiness of the train man and teacher were too odd because of that. Just saw some of the comments talking about how horrifying the horror game is and didn't understand until I saw a comment saying it's a metaphor...which is when I worked out what the implied meaning behind the parasite was...god...

good for you! keep it up!
I'm interested in helping you if you need any help with art I'd love to draw for you! If you needed a sample feel free to reply
I love that in the sudoku train scene manly zoomed in on the girls face and she looked like she didn't care that a corpse was dangling right in front of her. What a casual school day.
First I thought that this is really about a parasitic flower you have to defend yourself against. But after seeing this, the "flower" and the redness are much grimmer metaphors now...
Hearing Manly sing "La, La La La La was certainly something
You should have heard him sing "hush little baby don't say a word" that was the icing on the cake😂
Thank you so much for playing Manly!!
This game had such a horrifying atmosphere. The whole time I was on the edge of my seat, just wanting to protect this kid. The first time they go to get the pen gave me such a feeling of dread.
When you realized that this game is inspired with the true dark events makes you even more disturbed and have goosebumps.
Oh my god
Bro this is so eerie..just had a bad feeling the whole time..i wouldnt let my daughter go to school alone if the path to go to school is like that..and that wont even keep her safe..the teacher is so evil and heartless..how coukd you do that to your own student..ik this hapoens irl..its truly scary and i really pray that nobody ever have to go thru that..im gonna watch smthing funny..this just made me scared to sleep
the watercolor background was really nice, if the devs make more games i hope they make use of a similar style!
Man the style in this one is so good, need to play this myself
YAY I love this developers art I'm glad to see you play their games again
Me resisting the urge to say that Ari reminds me of mari because of the character design: insert intense inhale and exhaling
Thankfully, Ari's house is only 1-story (maybe)
You didn’t technically resist the urge, though huh, since you posted this comment xD
mari from omori?
@@skipfire00damn I guess I really did omri.
Everything is a Omori reference 😢
"oh, a realistic schoolgirl simulator, how unfortunate."
-seriously though, was missing and hoping for a "stab with pen" option.
+1
yes pls
become john wick
You can tell something is disturbing when manly stops reading the text 💀i feeo so bad for Ari!! She was failed by everyone
Things like this are truly disturbing and for the horror genre of the game to portray that... elegantly; to say the least. Great job! I felt super bad after it.
1:57 i live right by the train tracks, and kid you not, train went by after this part. cannot make this up. holy crap
"I don't know what's going on anymore" bunch of eyes in the wall "I see"
2:56 Wait… those are… nooses…
14:55 Hearing Manly at a loss for words is somehow terrifying.
This game definitely was quite the game. I like the use of the Rabbit mask, As well as the flower like parasite. Definitely good symbolism, Even the way she had her mouth sewn up.
Man this was a pretty hard watch not gonna lie but tbh who could get through this and not be disturbed. But man I really feel bad for that poor girl she didn't deserve any of that...
this game is the definition of anxiety trip,i could feel my anxiety going up as the game progressed and the oh fuck moment when the atmosphere got darker and the teacher locking the door
YOOO IVE BEEN WATCHING THE DEVELOPER FOR AWHILE NOW, ITS SO COOL TO SEE PEOPLE PLAY THEIR GAMES :D
Oh, zombies with flowers on their heads sounds much better than this nightmare. 😢
Thru her lenses, she sees "things" As if it's depicted as a rope... Especially the street light one like it's being highlighted. Or is it just my imagination?
Yep' not your imagination
Oh gosh i have a sinking feeling I may know why this game is disturbing :/
Its exactly as you think it is.
It's a disturbing game The worst part for me here is that there's no "good ending" or any way we can prevent this from happening to her it's all happening together we just have to watch it happen it's sickening but it's reality
This made me cry I like the art style but holy shit it is brought back memories
I’m really sorry :((( I hope your alright now
Thank you
this was a really interesting horror game, was also very beautifully drawn
This is rpg maker??!! It looks way more advanced than anything I’ve seen made in that engine, heck tho only thing that gave it away was you telling me strait up, and those iconic menus
The artstyle is really cool. Game itself is so depressing though...
It's all the same day, if you look at the date they're all the same day. I think the last "day" is what actually happened, and you're just seeing more of the truth a little at a time.
Yeah that was indeed disturbing. A lot of atmospheric story telling.
Just returned home from work, dinner with manly viddie is the best❤
There's a special place in hell/the underworld for sick creeps
yup!
My first thought actually was "where's her backpack" like she's only taking a pen with her
@@ezraf.7759 You have a point there. Maybe considering the circumstances of what was happening she felt it wasn't worth it to bring it along, and she only brought a pen for any bs tests the teacher gave. And the rest of the time was spent on the teacher's... "lesson plan"
*Eyes suddenly appear in the wall*
Manly(calmly): I see.
I cracked up.
If anyone is interested rpg maker is on sale from 80 to 8 dollars on steam till the 5th
OMGGG UR THE ONE WHO PLAYED DEAD PLATE AND ACED A GOOD VOICE FOR VINCE!! LOVE U MAN ❤
This game has really dark concept about disturbing stuffs... Truly a nightmare for people who suffered the same as the main heroine.....
"Ohhhhhh this was rough to watch."
*Scrolls down to see the suggested and sees Manly's LP of "Little Maddie Dear" is on the autoplay*
"Ya know. At some point, TH-cam has to realize what it's doing. Thank you for reopening those wounds, damn it."
The train sound really got me bc i live next to a train track and it sounds EXACTLY like that omg
Finally, a gameplay that isn't overtly saturatrd with a player narrating the viewer as if they were a baby and having the most obvious and surface level commentary. Finally, someone who plays the game like a normal person, im subscribing.
Manly looking in the mirror, pausing, and the “I look great”. Lol
Wasn't aware manly knew of Talking Heads. Excellent taste 👌
The art in this is very pretty
Well that was depressing… I wonder what’s up with her parents though. Anyway nice gameplay as always
Yess I was hoping you would play Parasite Flower, another game by Hae!
I want there to be one of these kinds of games where you can just go postal on everyone who deserves it.
The fact that both the game and my surroundings are so quiet is not helping me right now
as a person currently developing an rpgmaker game, I can confirm this one is a lot more high quality (and more disturbing) than mine 💀
everything i expected to happen in this, happened in this. horrifying things
This game has the same unsettling vibe of limbo.
This gives me Dreamy Mary vibes, which makes sense considering they have similar dark themes
Ooh i like this twisted game. Poor girl i was confused about parents i was like "whoa mom did chop dad?"
Ohh dear its one of those ones. I love me a good Disturbing horror game!! :D
Its small and all, but I do appreciate Manly using "suspicious" over "sus" in this context. A delicate matter deserves some maturity. PARASITE FLOWER as a title name is now very on-the-nose now.
This game gives detention vibes with the art I love it ❤
Well, I didn't see anyone commenting about it, but when she's searching the pen, the message which pops up is "the pen is not here", but when she find the guy with her pen it's implied "the pen is here", and that's really awful (if you didn't notice yet, focus on the second and third word).
What a sad story...
Oh my god, I had no idea what the relevance of the pen was but it- Oh God, that is truly disgusting, especially since the other ending also ended up in the same thing but with a different person
The scariest horror is always based on reality.
The artstyle gives me heavy OMORI vibes
ikr, the omori vibes is really strong on this one
Hmm I disagree
wowoow the art looks so cool!
these games keep on coming and you keep on finding them, puts the roguelike stereotype to shame
What a terrifying game.. and the message from it made me shutter.. poor girl
Happy spooky season everyone! Gonna be a full month of horror let's plays and creepypastas, best month of the year!
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
David Byrne is the shit.
Beautiful art but...
the feels
I took this too literally and thought that the 2 scenes where she grows flowers on her were actual parasites, so I didn't think the creepiness of the train man and teacher were too odd because of that. Just saw some of the comments talking about how horrifying the horror game is and didn't understand until I saw a comment saying it's a metaphor...which is when I worked out what the implied meaning behind the parasite was...god...
So many horror games, so little time. That’s what I think of Manly.
Keep up the good work!
I wonder what must happen to a man to twist the urge to provide, protect and cherish into something that harrowing, goes for the father too. Or were they born with no pride and honor to speak of?
