Dunno, don't reckon I can recall such a thing.
i love how they added tunnels to each prison cell because they knew certain players would try to lock the monster in one
Lol yup. I also kinda like the narrative inference that at some point the men tried to lock Augustin in there to stop him killing, and he just burrowed right out of it and kept on taking the men out.
IGP failed to lock "him" up in his playthrough. So you really have to time it
This game sucks and makes me tired after 1 hour time
@@Nikita-uo2sm7xq9lwhy do you not like it?
@@Nikita-uo2sm7xq9l same man, I dunno what but it just quite bland for me
For those who are curious, the German prisoner is essentially begging for his life and telling MC to keep the door closed when he hears you opening the slat- he is aware of the monster and wants the door to stay locked so he isn't mauled to death by it. Opposite to the man who wanted you to shoot him, the German soldier is literally saying he can't die like this ("Ich kann nicht so sterben!")... so much for not dying like that ig
Thank you! I was wondering!
@@temocorrea6511 for sure! In addition, the German soldiers in the introduction when the MC is in the trenches are mainly shouting that they can't shoot him (I guess because he's hiding behind the wall, or something), stuff of that nature.
Barrier languages are evil
Appreciate the translation.
he is actually saying he doesn't want to die like this "ich will nicht so sterben" and he also warns when the monster is coming "ich kann es hoeren" or "es kommt". he also calls the monster a devil, and calls the player a french devil, which is quite funny if you ask me. ("du Teufel"/"ein Teufel fuer die Franzoesischen Teufel")
When he climbed up into the pillbox I thought “oh man he could just get out through the window they shoot from!” Then the bullet whizzed by and it’s like. Oh yeah it’s a war out there. Amazing moment.
I wondered why he wasn't escaping that way, that was my initial thought, and then I saw the bullet. It gave a plausible reason for why no one bothered with that exit.
@@starhammer5247 The World War 1 setting really adds to the insanity of the whole situation. You're in a place with the largest concentration of soldiers and weapons ever seen in history, and yet this one monster skulking in the trenches is trapping you in a personal nightmare. If the Germans successfully stormed your trenchline and assaulted the bunker, chances are they would breach it by blowing an entrance open, and would probably increase your odds of survival by a lot with the monster and the enemy troops distracted with each other. But that's not happening because your fellow French troops are holding them back on the surface.
Thousands of men are shooting and shelling each other for vague political reasons maybe a dozen meters above you while an eldritch monstrosity chases you down in the tunnels to rend your flesh. Both sides oblivious to what is happening with the other. Absolute madness...
i love it because its a reminder of the horror of the war, you are trapped in a dark place with a monster and the first time you find a safe place with sunlight and no way for the monster to reach you and then the realization that the bunker isn't the only thing trapping you
I had to stop playing for a while after I ran into that. It just hit me too hard.
Not many moments in games have given me a smile, and then immediately snatched it right back. This was one of them.

Indeed.
what’s really horrifying, that in real life happened
some bunkers are abandoned and opportunities experiment or torture the enemies
or far worse
while outside are still fighting focusing on shooting enemies
they wont hear or whats going on underground
I forget what it was called but at some point they were making a game where you played as a medic during the Great War specifically to show the horrors of the war while removing your ability to easily fight back. There is a second ending, by the way. You have to escape without killing the beast in order to get it. Overall I liked this game. They made decent use of the setting to enhance the horror. They also did a good job of making you feel exposed during times with the wrench, without making the interactions overly tedious. It's a solid, if a bit basic, mid tier horror title that told the story it needed to, and then ended without overstaying its welcome.
I didn't even know you could kill it. I just assumed you had to loop it while moving boxes to get over the wall.
imo this game was WAAAY too short, ive been a frictional fan for a long time but these last two amnesia have been just.. underwhelming

I highly doubt you've even played The Bunker yourself. You're just making opinions based on playthroughs and acting elitist af.
Weapons in a horror game gives a sense of comfort at the idea of being able to fight back against enemies. However, from how slow the reload the revolver is might prove interesting when your are being chase by a monster and you try reloading your gun in the midst of it.
The catch is that if your ammo is limited, you never know if you might really need it later and shooting could screw the rest of the playthrough
@@BirdRaiserE that ruins it actually. bc the ammo is scarce, you know you actually never need it. the ganme wouldnt say. make you fight a massivetentacled boss bc there'sa severe shortage of weapons.
you simply dont give your protag a wep in these games, it's weird to have a wep at all bc you know from the get-go you are not going ot need it.
Giving me a way to fight back will always make the game alot more intense for me. It gives me just enough agency to want to continue
@@Imptail123 Could have picked up any of these shovels and been better off though.
@@TemmiePlays yoooo is that the real Temmie?
Anyway, my counterpoint is that it depends on the game. In faith, you get 1 bullet at the end and you can't really say the gun doesn't matter. In System Shock 2, you might get a million ammo and not use it because you built around melee. Resident Evil 4 had the best balance in my opinion.
Also, if you suspect that there's going to be a bad ending that you can stop with a bullet, there's always incentive to save.
Nothing spooked me more than when Manly was walking through the darkness and the shadowy outline of a man walking ahead of him at 1:27:21

I honestly don't know which is worse, being stuck in a bunker in an Amnesia game or being stuck in WW1 trench warfare.
The bunker doesn't sound so bad IMO.
Atleast with trenches you deal with something manageable. In Amnesia, you’re heading off face to face against some eldritch abomination.

probably just popularity thing, everyone can take a stab at ww2 theme since everyone knows the usual practices to set up a convincing ww2 theme, while in ww1 not many people are familiar with this setting, and just how "different" it is compare to ww2, both to the creators and players. So developers need extra amount of efforts to set up the theme, make players immersed in it, and that's when a lot of people retract, why stepping into the unknowning water when you know a perfect alternative world war theme is guaranteed to work?
It got two sequels few years ago
So, about 40 minutes in and I think I can guess the plot, so first I think the combined despair and suffering of the soldiers produced liquid vitae and it soaked down into the ground forming some kind of reservoir. The people in the bunker stumbled into this aforementioned reservoir and exposure to the vitae both began driving the soldiers mad and mutated the rats already present. Likewise in the beginning your friend is at the bottom of some kind of crater, I think the friend drank some vitae unknowingly and because of this he mutated into the monster like how the lady in Rebirth transformed into a creature.
Will update when I finish the video...
Okay, so, the vitae was actually produced by an ancient latin cult seeking immortality from the other world where the eldritch Empress resides and they harvested the liquid in vast amounts to essentially create a wellspring of it. The bunker is coincidentally near the ruins of their temple, this proximity to vitae has begun mutating the rats and instilling a subtle madness in the soldiers that get too close to the vitae. True to my prediction the best friend, Augustin, was exposed to and fed vitae when he fell into a crater that just so happened to expose the vitae reservoir, allowing the fluid to spill out into the open like glimmering water. Because he drank it he did in fact become a mutated monster, a harvester (assuming Rebirth terms apply), and actively began hunting his fellow soldiers while retaining some small shred of his sanity though not nearly enough.
That's why he's immortal, that's who the monster is, and that's how vitae even got mixed into a WW1 bunker.
So I was almost right save for not expecting an ancient eldritch temple...
It's actually Lambert that drinks it and becomes the monster, Augustin is the friend our protagonist is guilty about possibly/indirectly killing

I mean, yeah, there's a lot of potential for horror in that hellscape of Blood and Iron. if only someone would actually make a WW1 horror game for a change instead of "Horror with a WW1 theme/backdrop"
To be fair to the game. Pretty certain the reason that you only get one bullet from a case is something they thought about a lot. Either they would have to make the bullets bigger or make them glow or something. Out of the 3 options of either bigger bullets, glowing small bullets or big ammunition cases with few bullets in them. I actually think the third option is the best. High chance that if you just found a random box lying around like that. They would be either empty or have varying amounts of bullets left in them.
Some should have 2 or 3 for the emersion rather than 1 every time. Also there should be one REALLY hidden box somewhere with a full 50 round count, like a stached box by a soldier.
Or you could make it like resident evil one where the ammo cases gave you 5 each seeing as how the monster is likely a bullet sponge
@@shoken4421 I feel like that would destroy a lot of the progression balance through the game. As it is, using bullets to progress through rats, doors, traps etc is a big sacrifice and encourages you to find different paths and solutions. If you had 5 bullets per box there would either need to be like 3 boxes in the entire game, or you could rambo through those obstacles.
Best would be to give the bullets a little "shine" which would make them easier to see, items already have a faint highlight so it's not too immersion breaking imo.
@@harveyhutsby7697 That's kind of the real problem, this is a WW1 bunker, handgun ammo should be plentiful, they had more bullets than rations in most cases. They were prepared for invasions hence the twisting short corridors and metal barricades and electronic locks, keeping brass around was just bog standard.
If they really wanted to avoid it they could've set the location in a former bunker turned into a field hospital.
1:20:00 I think they added the water area JUST to scare you because of its reputation.

Just came here to say this game was made by 7 people, this isn't a big name company like Capcom or the people who made bioshock ,these guys did pretty good to go from a demo to full game in almost two weeks. Love how everyone that plays this has the gamma turned up to max really kills the whole "in the dark" feel
it's so the video is visible on yt, they probably played it dark and amped it up for the post
i love watching you while i draw- something about your videos is very comforting and real. your commentary feels more like being with a friend than a typical youtuber and i really respect that. keep it up man!!
I love how they wanted to go back to dark descent or even penumbra with the gritty enviroment
Some lovely touches in this. The sound of the torch dynamo in particular is absolutely perfect (good job because we hear it so often). A+ atmosphere; the trenches, and the cruelty and incompetence of command, are horror enough that adding a monster made of your past sins is nearly overkill.
I was also impressed by the story and storytelling. (Nothing new in uncovering events through notes and diaries but at least the writing was much better than typical.) It's an especially effective wow moment when you stumble out into the crater you've read about several times by then, which leads you perfectly - and without hand-holding! - to the conclusion that you're here to find the bunny and bring it back in the box.
I'm not sure that I'd have pulled the final trigger, as it were. Henri did love him, after all. Well, I'm just soft for monsters.
SGDQ recently having been and gone with an Amnesia run, I do wonder, looking at those bricks, if prop flying is still possible. Not that poking your head over the top was wise in the trenches. Maybe coding out prop flying was too hard so they just added low ceilings instead, lol. I do look forward to seeing how speedrunners break this. I noticed that the arsenal code is clearly coded to be different every time, which is obviously deliberate.
I also would have a hard time killing Lambert, but that’s one of the things I love about Amnesia at the same time! It really forces you to make difficult choices, and the exploration of morality is so interesting for me. For example, is it cruel to keep Lambert alive after he’s become a monster, or is it worse to kill your close friend? Adding in the fact that it was Henri that not only sent him out on watch but also gave him the vitae that transformed him, you’re left with a choice that is terrible either way. It’s simultaneously heartbreaking and engaging storytelling
I love that when everybody else who has played the game were trying avoid the monster and not anger it, Manly just straight up shoots it with a shotgun and is as loud as possible🤣💀
Man, thanks for the Amnesia lore behind your channel. Makes me appreciate it even though I'm a relatively new viewer.
Got about 15 minutes in and then decided I actually really wanted to play it before I saw the endings. ty for everything Manly ❤
I didn't know another game was coming out until your post! I went down the nostalgic rabbit hole reviewing the older ones, looking forward to watching and dissecting this one 🤓
I remember asking about your playthrough of machine for pigs, and you responded to it Mister.
Thank you, I appreciate your insights/commentaries.
I like how the singing guy isn’t even really intimidating after all the monster hide and seek we do all game. For half of that segment I honestly thought the guy was just a prisoner stuck somewhere passing the time lmao. And then he died in the gas like that. Hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby
"that's new thing for me"
*proceeds to one shot two soldiers*
I like how in a middle of a war we are not in a rush we just chilling, getting more bullet, killing people, slowly bandge up our bullet wound :D
Jesus, Manly’s got balls of steel just running through and being completely fine
I love your playthroughs man, im so glad i found your channel years ago. Just wanted to say thanks. Back to lurking!!!
I loved this. What a good setting for a horror game. The monster was barely needed, I agree it could have just been a horror game with this setting during the war. I had high hopes for this game and it was succeeded. Soma remains my favorite Frictional Games title and it's hard to surpass the original Amnesia, but I do feel The Bunker is a worthy sequel to it.
There was a very similar game where you were being chased by an armored velociraptor in a WW1 setting, I forget what it's called
1916 is the game your talking about
What
Thank you so much for uploading this, I was already hoping you'd play this game (since I loved your playstyle in alien isolation too, which feels a but similar in approch) but I didn't expect to see it so fast. Gonna binge it tonight :D
whoa, an amnesia game??? i had no idea, super excited ❤
super nostalgic but def a big part of the channel!
Amnesia, the impetus of a hundred screaming let's players!
7:00 yeah that was some well done WW1 gaming.
This does seem like a melding of Amnesia and Penumbra.
Thanks for uploading the full LP Manly!
52:05 "there's more than one?!" hahah
53:47 now it's Amnesia
1:24:00 oh youtube compression didn't like this dim foggy bit at all
1:32:24 hahahaha the timing of "woo" and the character's hands hahaha perfect
I'm surprised Manly made a comment like that cause I think it's pretty clear there's only one.
Frictional Games legitmately just never stopped missing with the horror games they developed, they just keep on hitting
“You don’t have to get all rat about it” someone shouts at me going goblin mode in the pantry
full game in 2 and a half hours? No shot, did manly speedrun this
If you take out backtracking to save it isn't that long of a game. It's very condensed and efficient pacing wise.
Damn, the devs impress once again. When the game first started I didn't know what to think. But as it went on I found myself more and more immersed.
I find it quite funny that I find manly as my comfort TH-camr. Like I can wake up at 2 am from a horror game like nightmare.... Then watch him play horror games and help me feel better
I can't believe MBH has been around for so long! I'm happy to know I've got a huge backlog of videos to keep me entertained.
I like it when he says “ oh a photo…. sees gore….No”
Truly the manliest badassesed heroer guy on TH-cam. Thanks for so much outstanding content!
Been watching you for a year now since I got a cold last year (I think it was covid) and I'm still enjoying your content. More powers to you Manly 🤩

Yes I was waiting for you to post this, LOVE your channel
Finally Manly playing this game been waiting for a video
"I was just trapped in the Bunker, just looking for a way ouuut.... THEN I PULLED OUT MAH GUN!!!"
It is on of the scariest horror games if you have to play as a frenchman.
Real ones remember the first thumbnail that showed the monster completely demystifying them, and ruining the fear of the unknown.
Am I a pedantic? Yes.
*pedant
I few weeks ago I said that I wished manly would play longer games and he delivered!
This was a lowkey energy vibe play through, but it did make me want to go back and watch all of your other Amnesia content.
yknow, having the left and right hand both occupied and on screen really makes you wonder which appendage is used for picking up and throwing items..
This Amnesia more enjoyable than the previous one back a couple years ago. This one we can actually see monsters. Rebirth was very, very boring. I'm glad they did something different for a change.
