It takes some practice man. I'm a novice guitarist and am learning this stuff as well. Just keep working on it and don't give up if this is something you really want to do!!!
make sure your guitar is tuned correctly, and never give up. this stuff takes time, its really difficult. take breaks when you need to but don't stop playing you'll get good at it

Any kind of clean sound works for the verse. If you have a tremelo effect, that'll sound great too. The chorus has a lot of distortion added.
