we need more videos and people like u
man much more difficult, i learned how to fingerpick songs by using certain fingers on each string repeatedly now i have to reconsider everything
I think when Donovan taught John and Paul Travis picking (or is it clawhammer?) in India, it seems Paul either couldn't be arsed learning it, or just preferred the sound of flicking it with his finger. As far as I know though, Paul invented this technique and I'm not aware of anyone else using it.
I'm using a Rock School version of this from their syllabus and it definitely includes the strums. It says "strum with back of nail" on the text.
Very solid lesson. He put in the work for us on this one
th-cam.com/video/qD8f9w_NYJk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hoj3bDOMScyMDYJU That's the only one I have ever found that's really correct. The guy is a freak music genius fan of The Beatles, McCartney in particular. I highly recommend it to anyone struggling to figure out how to play or vocally harmonize any of their weird stuff👍👍👍
Bless you sir...
It’s all about the rhythm of the strumming hand. To really understand how Paul himself sees the issue, it helps to listen to him do the song in the 70s with wings. There are quite a few variations on the pattern, where he extends the ,strumming‘ of the index finger. And, of course, it has to be much faster.
How is it so many people missed the casual YT guitar teacher James James/Privetricker who demonstrated this like a decade ago..? (not mention, at least to my ears, it's obvious what McCartney's doing--it's how he plays just about everything on the acoustic). I've never been able to sight-read music (except drums) but I've always hated tabs, with the possible exception of when I'm trying to pick out one or two notes in a solo that I just can't get by ear. I get much more out of using my ear and/or watching the original artist play it.
Nikola Gugoski uses the "index Strum" you're referring to.
you're a legend!!! its my first day playing and this was my fave song in 2021, I learnt so much watching and practicing for 30 mins! can barely piece things together but when it works it sounds half decent, thank you so much!
Awesome glad it helped!
I learned this one from Andy on his Shut Up and Play channel: th-cam.com/video/hYgVZ6fMuYU/w-d-xo.html. The tab is inexpensive (not free), but the video of the lesson is.
If it sounds good, it is good.
and for those of us in the rest of the world - "The Pointer" is the Index finger
Why didn’t you pay attention to how he played it at the concert?
Thank you!!
You play it wrong too : you should hold your guitar the other side to play it like he does 😁 arf arf Seriously, there might be a difference between the version recorded on the white album and the way he plays it live nowadays. No wonder about that. Personnally i only trust my ears, not the TABS on the internet
Hahahahah agreed 👍
You are still playing it wrong. Doesn't sound anything like Paul's playing.. go watch justin sandercoe's tutorial
I'm pretty sure Taylor couldn't play this part if her life depended on it. That's Aaron Dessner's piece.
Shut it, u don't know who played this.. and since it's Taylor's song, it's prob her and Aaron just does the background
@@sethkenzom.flores3050 he is credited on the songwriting and since we can be sure she wrote the lyrics....
mean
Jokes on you she played it infront of me as my suprise song🤣 2 months before you commented🤣
PM never was a good guitar player..
Kellen I weezys
nunca pensé que fuera una canción sin rasgueo, ayer que me animé a aprendermela la sentía extraño y justo hoy con este video puedo confirmar el porque, muchas gracias bro, un abrazo
yeah..because Macca didnt know the posh correct way..he just did what was easier...................... end of..lesson over
Otherwise, this was very interesting research. Well Done!!
The only thing I would fix in this video is the rhythm of your TAB which should be eighth two sixteenths followed by two sixteenths and an eighth during the strumming part on measure two and elsewhere when there is an extended chord. That is the way I hear you and McCartney playing this syncopated rhythm. Best Dr. Vera H. Flaig (Guitar Instructor at The University of Michigan)
Thanks! It's easier for me to pay it correctly than to write it correctly. Appreciate the feedback. :)
Very telling indeed. This young man indicates he will go on line or Google to explore or find answers. Not that long ago we would pull the records out and listen! Listen and hear hard for hours, days, and nights until it finally sounded even closer to the song.We were not memorizing but learning and learning to understand. I can always tell a "youtube" player anywhere.Does not matter how impressive or dazzling. Absolutely nothing wrong with exploring every possible resource but it really shows in so many current on line players. There is no substitute for trial and error, time in,self discovery, and those amazing accidents.
It seems you're missing some of the hits during the strumming part. Check out EricBlackmonGuitar. I'm not sure of the chord positions, but his rhythm seems spot on.
PM has played his song countless times over the past 50 years and has probably used different structures for each version - ever heard of improvisation?? The tab versions you refer to probably relate to the actual recorded song on the White Album, which is a version set in stone.
hmm.. yeh: u can never trust tabs online... i'm not sure "official song books" will guide you true either: although the chords and lyrics will tend to be more accurate. for someone at pauls level (basically a master).... he's fusing classical, folk and rock elements into a folky song, but he definitely gives it a "rocky feel": with the strumming pattern and clever slides (that actually takes a lot of practice to master). (it feels like a fast 4/4 to me, which u have to get right from the beginning) i think paul always uses martins (at least originally) so to get close to the "master song version" of blackbird, you gonna need that kind of guitar and strumming technique. (not sure what strings paul uses, someone always knows... but string types will change the tone of a song completely) from what i can tell, Evolve has located one chord (looks like an open A7) that isnt noted in the tabs (so congrats, because that's a needle in a haystack musically speaking). so, for any serious players (going for authenticity), i'd check real careful to see how paul does the A7 (at that point in the song): because there are a lot of different ways to fret A7 when you get into it... and... since paul's first instrument is bass, i wonder if he kinda plays 6 string acoustics like basses? (a certain thumbing style on the bass strings i mean): not my instrument, but i'd be interested to hear a bass players view on this. peace: no surrender (never stop playing)
amazing!!
Who gives a flying flamingo 🦩? I always pulled with this song in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s. Now Percy has fallen off, I'm not that bothered. 😊 +1
you didnt even play whats on all those tabs. if you listen to the album version its very clear he is strumming and not really finger picking
It's so much harder to be correct.
Thats the readon, why you should listen to music and not ! read a bad transcription
Paul never learned Travis picking and instead he developed his own style producing the sound he wanted. This is what seems to baffle other musicians.
Been a Beatles fan my entire life, been playing guitar for about a year. I can say with certainty that the way I play this song (marty music's way) sounds just fine and is easy for people of all skillsets. why do we need this extreme deep dive when music is supposed to be about expressing emotion and having fun. Like the Beatle's themselves said man, just "let it be"
Genius Paul. :)
Isn"t the point that McCartney is making is that Blackbird was originally recorded using open G tuning (D G D G B d)?
Thank you. 🤘🎸🎶
Hey I need help. Don't mind the name of my youtube channel. I didn't make it. I was dared to. Anyway, I can't do like the second part where the guitar with the white squares work well.
I learned this song watching Paul McCartney playing it in the Mtv Unplugged video. No tabs or anything, only watching my VHS tape.
5:24 it also sounds like he slides up the to D7 chord instead of playing the open strings
You bend up not down.
Is there a difference ?
McCartney uses different chord shapes in the second part of the song than most copiers , that’s what he’s on about, you missed his joke entirely.
You talk too damn much.
*too
@@evolveguitar8635 - Ya still talk too damn much. I thought the goal was to have people watch. Hard to do when your lips are flapping in the breeze.
Thanks for watching!
@@evolveguitar8635 about a min. couldn't take after that
Awesome thanks!
The song books are very rarely from the original composers. It's an interpretation by somrone who hasnt spent alot of time with the song or had much experience with the artist. Its sad because it never sounds exactly right while also being more unnatural and difficult to play.
He’s doing the finger flick that Donovan taught him.
Sounds just like it
That is epic
First vid ever made sense and simply. Thanks
Glad it helped!
