Concert For Aliens Guitar Lesson Tutorial MGK Machine Gun Kelly How To Play
Hi, nice video and the first guitar song i learned almost 30 yrs ago. There is no right or wrong way but there are better / easier ways. This method requires little less hand movement. I have focused on the 'all my life' section but using the same chords you can work out the run up and run down. all my life e--------x--------------3----------------x-------------- b--------7--------------x----------------4-------------- g--------x--------------x----------------x-------------- d--------x--------------x----------------x-------------- a-------5--------------4----------------3-------------- e--------x--------------x----------------x--------------
I been playing it right for 20 years.😂
You can see P Mc play part of blackbird in an interview entitled "Paul McCartney Explains Blackbird." You might be able to get something out of it. Great job with what you've done. Link to the other vid, if allowed: th-cam.com/video/7UWkn55ByGM/w-d-xo.html
Cool thank you!
I mean listening to the studio recording, it's clear he's strumming. I've been playing wrong the whole time too, arguably hard than was necessary.
Try it in double drop D , you’ll like it. Also, Paul is playing the Carter scratch. Mother Maybelle.
the "4 3" shape makes the most sense to me because it fits both when he walks up and when he walks down. like it perfectly slots in where going to "8 7" doesnt feel right at all
I'm 56 and when I was 15 I finally got "Blackbird" down, and it was a far bigger deal than learning "Stairway." Then I found out a little later I was playing it completely differently from Paul. I knew I heard some differences, but my ear's just not good enough to be able to reconstruct it from just listening. The way I play it is way more finger-picky than the original.
Yeah, I think what you're saying at 5:29 matches how Justin Guitar teaches it, with a downward finger strum at some points. You were on the money earlier when you noticed you could hear him playing a chord rather than individually plucked notes. So, as every jazz guy says, you learn a lot from transcribing/learning songs BY EAR. It's all about what you hear, not what some book said. You proved it again.
I've seen him play it 2 different ways.
The last note/ chord of every fingerpicking/ strum pattern seems to have a strange delay. 6:30
Forget the tabs… listen to the song
People learning by ear is the reason why we have this whole mess in the first place
What's wrong or right anyway? Even Sir Paul played various versions of it.
Paui is a bass player. He is doing it wrong. :-) If you're more comfortable with another picking style do it your way. This is rock'n roll not classical music. Anyhow a very useful video and thank you for posting it. Now we can choose.
I was playing it correctly. This video dissapointed me.
Sorry!! 😀
@@evolveguitar8635 Just trollin of course. Great video and funny story, Paul's technique for that strumming is quite strange to learn and use. Cheers!
U taught me so much.iwish i can have u as my teacher .love u joe
I know I'm playing it wrong because I play it in E! ☺️
the trick is play it how you sing it, and best tap your foot .. soon it'll come to you there are many many various ways to play it, to bring out hidden melody's and add-lib's. the small pauses and breaths are many. and practice is needed maybe have a blackBird calling at the start even before the guitar enters' that part is the easy bit if your going to do a full nerd version. identify the right warble and chatters and the depth of the reverb. then a edited loop of a blackbird call. volume pedal it in and out throughout the tune.
I do know that Blackbird is played by Paul with just thumb and index finger since 20 years. The index finger is going up-down touching 2 strings together. Nothing new.
I didn't get it until I watched a video from Mike Pachelli teaching Blackbird. Your video is awesome too, but Mike really made it click for me.
Musicians will also drop the key of the song as they age because they can’t sing the same way they did when they were 20.very common.
Not saying he did this here just something to note..
Also I play this song and I play it with a two finger pluck and kind of loose strum it.i think that’s what Paul does.
You play differently as you age! Bringing out more sound. 👍🏼
I saw a guy playing it in a music store 40 years ago, the first time I played a Taylor. He showed me the turn arounds and I’ve been playing it ever since. Finger style.
interesting as far as fan curiosity goes. Paul admits, when asked, that he is thankful that there is such interest in the tune being a staple of guitar players interest everywhere.
Never cared to learn it. Still don’t.
THANK YOU!!
Strangely, as I'm not a guitarist, when you played it the first time I could tell something was missing from how the OG sounds. It's really fascinating how some people don't actively listen to the real song when learning from tabs. It's like singing a song from the lyrics website and noticing the words aren't exactly right. I am a woodwinds player who plays in ensembles groups, and you have to basically know your partners parts well enough to basically play them yourself! (And sometimes do!)
But is it really wrong though? Cover the song how you want. I think some guys lose their technical prowess by trying to emulate someone exactly which is just pride.
nope, still wrong I'm afraid
He strums with the thumb too
No one can ever play it as it's the beatles , impossible band to imitate as so complex music let alone write anything remotely as good as any of their 300 or so songs !
I call the thumb-index finger technique, "pluck-waggle-waggle-waggle."
Es ist sehr vermessen und nervt, wenn du behauptest, ich spiele etwas falsch. Geh scheißen!
I like the way I play it.
I understand the sweep with the index finger. However, regardless of how you play it, it's important to maintain the quarter beats in the bass note. At least, that's how it sounds in the White Album recording. Paul may be mixing it up when playing live, but that bass note - likely played with the thumb - grounds the song and stays constant throughout. So, sweep all you want, but keep that beat.
Excellent video. For a definitive answer, I think this video (of Paul recording the song for The White Album) is key evidence - and very much supports your theory th-cam.com/video/19XOeURsWWw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZumyeB1LMvBMWiXd
Awesome thanks for that
Tabs are WRONG!?!? lol. They should be called guidelines really. Some get close, but its rare you find a legit tab. Going through that now with days of the new season change. Tabs are close, but solo's off in a few different spots.
It's clear that McCartney is playing it like that because it's easier, the so called wrong way, sounds much more impressive and melodious
There’s more to it than just playing the notes correctly. It’s playing it in the pocket and having great feel and technique like the artist.
The teacher who pointed this out when I first learned the song offered the simpler, ubiquitous alternative of picking the open G -- he warned me in 1979 I would be "playing it wrong". I've always wondered what the trick was to playing it like the record. Entertaining way to find out, but I still have no shot of playing it right. That's ok because it's become so banal nobody wants to hear anybody play it anymore. Thanks!
the downstroke is on the upbeat. boom chick boom chick. you strum your finger on the chick (that's what she said). the way you're trying to play it is syncopated all weird. your understanding of the rhythm is still flawed.
Your timing is off with that last downstroke, it's always too late
you learn guitar with your ears, not your eyes….maybe that’s why most people are playing it wrong
McCartney played it right in 1972 on tour. And in 1992 it was already dumbed down but enjoyable. His later performances on guitar are laughworthy basic. He lost the technical ability to play it virtuoso.
It’s like the index finger is flicking off a little ball of Sn$t when strumming.👇🏻👆🏻👇🏻👆🏻👇🏻👆🏻
The trouble is Paul McCartney even now as he did back in the beatles days will play a simpler version live and will vary from the studio version. so i would take with a pinch of salt what you see him playing on stage now compared to what is heard on the original record.
Yeah I do agree. Definitely things evolve over time. Cheers
You are a good teacher 👍
Thanks!!!
He has a fake fingernail on his index finger that he plays like that. One of his daughters suggested it to prevent his finger from bleeding after hours of playing. I have been playing it the way you did because I don’t have a fake fingernail and it is sometimes painful Paul’s way. Nice video!
Oh that is interesting, I hadn't heard that before.
This is fabulous! I love the close-ups on Paul's strumming hand.
Thanks
There is obviously a "wrong" approach. If you miss the tuning, or sing out of tune, its wrong. But not managing to reproduce a masterpiece to the most meticulous standard is not getting it "wrong". That's just acknowledging that not all humans are geared to reproduce stuff perfectly. I struggled to reproduce McCartney's index-finger flick. Gave up. So TF what? My family and buddies love my interpretation (down to my 11-year-old grand-daughter), so my imperfect reproduction is right forvthem .. and me. To get somewhere close to The Master, after weeks of practice, will do for me.
Most tabs are wrong. Never use them. Figure it out from the sound of the song.
Thanks man! Any way you could tell me what Tyler is doing with the pedal board at the part you show us at 2:17?
