Hope yall like the vid just for the record tho, I'm talking about the issue of scamming people and faking things! Not here to add to accusations against any individual artist, hence why the name is blacked out and I don't encourage anyone to send any hate towards anyone else, if you send hate to others online regardless of how much you disagree with them you're adding to the problem!!!

I have tried using AI to generate images, and from my experience, generating a good image is not that easy. My biggest issue with this post is how it was handled. The "proofs" are bullshit and targeting tons of actual artists, there's tons of those smug faces drawn all over it like the poster knows everything, clearly targets one person in particular, and than says "BuT iTs NoT aN aTtAcK" AND THAN victimizes himself because he apparently received some harassment. No, it was not informational, it was a clear attack on someone else for nothing but clout, pretending to be a good Samaritan. He's a disgrace to all artists. I doubt he is so stupid that he didn't knew he could handle it better, so it must be intentional attack.
On top of all of that he proved nothing. You can't prove someone traced or repainted from ai without targeting normal artists by accident. This trigger happy behavior will not help us fight against ai. What will help us is GETTING BETTER THAN AI

      - So using an AI image generator that uses other people's art as reference/training and creating a full illustration in 5 hours
by prompt engineering, inpainting, post-processing, photo-bashing, touching up things in PhotoPea ect. is not art,
but opening a jpeg of my favorite artist's OC next to my photoshop, or buying their PSD and drawing fanart by hand for 5 hours is?
      Interesting viewpoint.
To me, the important thing is to be transparent with it. On Twitter, but also when you are having clients for your commissions.
      - I think I'm pretty good at spotting it, after doing it myself for over a year every single day as my hobby. (next to digital hand drawn art)
But I still don't go around and accuse people of using AI for art, unless I see that there is money/fraud involved.
All I want is for people to tag/communicate it properly and stop being ashamed (and to shame others) for using AI for art.
And when we can get "ethical" AI training rather sooner than later - all the better. But that's not my responsibility as an AI user to solve.

    Overall summary:
    - Tracing art (preferably art from real artist that you look up to) can be a great way to learn and take inspiration AS LONG as you don’t use it to make money and claim it as your own.
    - If you are going to try to use tracing to learn and grow as an artist, taking inspiration from real artist whose style you like rather than chewed up AI art may be a better approach.
    - In the end of the day, AI art, as Sam said, is simply art stolen from various artist that’s been granulated just to be mushed together, having no distinct style let alone proportions.
    - Referencing real artists can help you also develop a distinct style in your art, as they have unique styles and shape languages that you can take note of. AI art has no real style as it’s just many styles of artists taped together to create a (most likely) disproportionate piece of “art”.
    - Again, no hate. Don’t accuse people of tracing with no solid evidence.

I have to call out the last two points of your summary.
Tracing real artists means you're taking their style, and if it doesn't, then trading AI would be the same and a new style is developed in either case.
Sam didn't say to not accuse people without evidence, and he even said/implied you can spot frauds because they didn't record their art, or only part of it, which is massively disingenuous, or just very out of touch with the average person.

I saw a video earlier that explained these points more in detail. It's true that a beginner artists (or even professional ones) can make all of these mistakes, but its the combination all of them in their art works that makes it a bit sus. When it comes to AI, it's better to ask the question "Why would anyone draw it this way?" rather than just asking "Why did they draw this?", since the current AI does some mistakes that don't really make any sense from the human perspective.

  • @droppedcombofiend2707

I hate all of these. All of this "proof" can be applied to basically any mid-level artist. The idea that everything has to be either perfect or bad, otherwise it's ai or was traced from ai, is absolutely absurd. Spreading this is only making it harder for real artists to get better. As it is, there's more incentive to be bad than to be good. The idea that people have to record and if they don't have recordings they're lying is also absurd. A lot of people don't record for various reasons. Like not having a good enough computer to record and draw, using a program like PS that doesn't automatically record, not having the disk space to hold the recordings, not knowing how to make a time-lapse. All of this paranoia is only further hurting the art community. I am a mid-level artist and constantly deal with people accusing me of using ai. I don't like to record time-lapse because I don't have a lot of disk space, don't always have the time to make them, and having to perform gives me a lot of anxiety. It makes the process really unfun. So now we have a process that isn't fun anymore and posting isn't fun and only gets me attacked. Why should I continue making art? Especially when taking into consideration all of the other problems that come with competing against ai. It's a lot easier to not make anything and let ai just take over. It certainly saves me a lot of stress and anxiety.
So please just admit that there's no way to tell. It's an unfortunate reality, but being paranoid and attacking or accusing people is only going to help ai take over and discourage people from making art.

    • @DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro
      @DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

I disagree. The “art” being shown has a lot of skill discrepancies between basic things like sketch lines to shading techniques to anatomy posing. Someone who hasn’t built the hand-eye coordination to make a steady-ish line yet most definitely can’t make an anatomically correct pose. How could anyone? If you don’t know the shape you’re drawing well enough to make a solid, confident line, then you couldn’t possible have been able to make an accurate pose. Making good lines is one of the first steps an artist has to take in learning, anatomy is a second step. You need to be able to draw a line first. I can understand other things like background techniques being shaky, as a lot of artists (myself included) tend to ignore practicing those because it’s not as fun as drawing the subject. Providing speed paints of your digital art shouldn’t be a hard thing to ask, though. Even free apps that a lot of people use, like Ibis Paint, have that feature for free. Another big thing you missed is that it’s suspicious self proclaimed artists that get this request most frequently, and much of the time it’s for a good reason. Asking for honesty in a landscape ever-filling with fakes isn’t wrong.
Let’s make this clear; *no one expects artists to be perfect.* You made the assumption that this is at the root of this discussion. It’s not. The issue here that does decry traced art (AI or not) is the inconsistencies in skill levels. _No one said it’s a bad thing to be a beginner artist._ What is being said is that if you’re gonna trace, be upfront about it (and don’t trace AI, it won’t teach you anything).

    • @droppedcombofiend2707
      @droppedcombofiend2707 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

@@DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro This is completely absurd. Someone can very easily make a solid line without understanding anatomy. Especially using this crazy new technique called "inking". There are ways to tell. Many people just don't know them, or think they can tell when they can't.
At some points you have to be a high enough level of an artist to tell.
The differentiation between Ai and human made things is the process of which it is made.
If you're a high enough level artist in your style, you know the processes in which drawings in that style are drawn
Therefore you would be able to tell whether something is AI, or used AI in the process.
You only think there is no way to tell because you don't have the skill.
Also, you really shouldn't be stressing yourself out over accusations of you using AI. As long as you're not, what's the problem? A few silly twats think you used it? Don't give power to them.
Also, why are you considering quitting drawing before considering a break from posting on social media? Since you're so worried about getting criticism, I'm wondering why you even post?
Why not wait until you're at a higher level to post since you're so insecure?
Sometimes, a little patience is all you need. There are a lot of artists who start posting before they're actually ready for it.

I think the most important thing is to just do what makes you happy, and just keep some receipts of your process, whether that be recording you painting, sketches, or recording a digital speed paint. There is a certain human touch in the creative process (from rough draft to finished) I don't believe AI will ever be able to replicate, as it changes from person to person. If people still question you after that, they probably weren't there to support in the first place.

AI is like nina the dog daughter from FMA; an unholy chimera. your own art from study of many artists is a chimera as well, but has identity and doesn’t lack soul. each artist you study has a personal connection. i think of kishimoto when i draw collar bones, oda when i hatch shade, etc. understanding your pieces and having respect for what you’ve “borrowed” makes a consistent product that’s a shrine to what you love about art.

i think it's okay to use AI for IDEAS. in the end, real artists (and real images) are better for reference and tracing to learn. like i was struggling to inagine a cyberpunk scene recently, and so i generated a bunch with the angles and settings i had in mind, and used those to create something on my own from there.

I feel like AI art has this uncanny effect. I can’t always explain it either. A year ago, it would be when the eyes were all jumbled kind of like stained glass, or the hands were melded and patterns didn’t connect. But now, as AI improves itself, it’s hard to say exactly what it is but you can still just tell it was generated by a computer in some cases. Other times I feel like an idiot because it looks so realistic and I have to check the persons profile.

Exactly, when every part of the image has that airbrushed over rendered look you just know it’s ai generated, a machine cannot replicate the concept of leading the viewer’s eye through the image, and doesn’t understand visual weight. Even the first point made about weird line inconsistencies is true, the skill gaps between the linework and render are just too big to be believable, i mean a real artist with that level of skill in rendering and detail would surely not be making beginner mistakes like that yk?

About tracing to learn, as someone who has "traced" for that purpose before - don't just trace it. Try to see how you'd sketch it, break down the shapes. UNDERSTAND where the original artist was coming from.
Unless you're trying to learn lineart, which, I'll be fair, never worked well for me with that process.
When I was 12 and learning anatomy, I'd print images of anatomy I liked at 8% opacity and sketch all over them to see my personal "skeleton" method~

I personally think that at the beginning, AI was a great TOOL for artists, not a replacement like some people are trying to do, but a TOOL.
I think that AI can be useful to try and figure out a general pose that you can't find a reference for. Like, something very precise that you tried to search, and possibly don't have the body-type for.
But sadly, people these days just think about making money easily and with only 1 click.
To think these kind of people also submit their AI art to competitions and sometimes WIN is disgusting.
I believe that AI, in any domain, music juste like art should be a HELPING TOOL, not a stealing tool used to replace artists of every kind because those people are too lazy to learn to take a pen and start drawing themselves.
Also, I agree that you can use tracing a learning method as long as you don't post it and claim it as yours, just as a study...
I have some drawing from when I started to learn to use my graphic tablet, and I was tracing over different references from anime to animals, objects, etc... Because I wanted to learn how to use the tablet and the "correct" technique, but I didn't post them (tbh, I'd only post drawing I'm proud of and not old drawings cuz I'm kinda insecure about my old drawings :') )

I've been digital sculpting for a few years. When I started I thought it would be easier copy a single character... I spent nearly a year doing that over and over. Got no where, but once I started using references from tons of various characters, it then only took me like a week to actually make something I was actually proud of.
It's like your subconscious understanding the guidelines so you can make the logical decisions, rather than copy something aimlessly. I think that's literally just called "Learning" lol, but learning is actually the easiest way to be successful believe it or not. Ai will never be a shortcut to talent

Okay I have a genuine question-
What if I have an art idea, but need help with conceptualization due to lack of motivation? For example, sometimes I generate AI prompts just to get inspiration of what I want my final piece to look like, as well as what style I want to use. I then use that as a really loose reference.
    Is that wrong??

    • @dan1elr

if you decide to trace ai as a new artist (say you can't find anything that's exactly what you're looking for after an hour of searching) the best thing to do is to have that and a real reference picture for lightning/anatomy of someone in a similar pose (or yourself). this allows you to double check everything actually looks correct. in gaining any knowledge from ai images in general, i believe it excels in framing/positioning and seems to always guide you to where you're supposed to look. as someone who is working on that, i like to upload a rough sketch and see how it rearranges the things in it and i believe that ive gotten better from doing so.

For instance, there’s an ai image of a girl in a cool outfit holding a gun, I’m never gonna trace an ai image, but it’s a good prompt. What I mean is I’ll take the inspiration or idea and draw it by my lonesome. I won’t trace ai, but they can sometimes be good Inspiration, since ai can make literally anything, sometimes it can go beyond my imagination.
