+Ivori Miller That's not a stupid question. The 2D and 3D windows do not undock and move around like some programs. You can resize them, though. Mouse over the black bar between them and it will change to a bar with two arrows. Click drag right or left to resize the two windows. I hope that answers your question.

I am floored at this program! I love it! I used to sew...daily...for years...and had to stop several years ago for various reasons. As a content creator, and with the realism of mesh, I believe it's time for me to bring my clothing line to life. Blender seemed too tasking. MD is amazing! It behaves like real patterns and fabric! And you're an excellent teacher! Thank you!

+Judi Lynn If you know real world patterns, you might be interested in an app I released yesterday called PatternMaker PRO. It drafts patterns for use in MD. It will all be very familiar to you and it's affordable, if you want to give it a try. patternmakerpro.com/ You'll have a lot of fun with MD, given your skill set. Good luck!

This is a very patient and well constructed tutorial that's accommodating of both the 3DCG and fashion worlds, and does a perfect rundown of the basic UI, which in the 3D field is rarely covered as extensively. With this, I feel I have the power to experiment with everything now that I know how all of the basic functions and tools work.

As a 3D artist, with many years of experience, but simply no talent for creatively wrinkling things, I discovered MD and started looking for tutorials.
Initially I was hesitant to sink a large portion of my time into a totally alien program, but having listened to your introduction comment about 'annoying things other tutorials do' I have to say. I wholly agree, and you have convinced me that my time won't be wasted.
I appreciate greatly the transcript for the exact reason you stated. The same applies to avoiding the wanton use of shortcuts without ever explaining why or where they come from.
Finally, not as an artist, but as someone who has spent many hours learning various tasks in general, I really really appreciate the fact that you understand the subject matter and offer explanations of it in terms people unfamiliar with certain aspects, can understand.
Many tutorials neglect people in the audience who decided to learn a skill without having an extensive background in it, such as using a 3D program, for doing sewing and clothes designing. Each is a specialized set of skills, and they don't necessarily agree with each other immediately, but they can both be put to use together with some simple analogies.
While I realize this video is somewhat old, I simply needed to express my gratitude for really comprehending some of the frustrations I have with tutorials (and my family and friends too) that tutorial makers always seem to overlook.

Lori, you're fantastically good at this. You managed to teach a total beginner to MD how to get comfortable with this program, though I have a long history in 3D, 2D vector art, and recently learned how to hem my own pants (yes, I have my own sewing machine!). Extremely well done, and you didn't leave anything out. You also have a very nice speaking voice so that helps too.
The pacing of the video was great too, and I'm glad you walked through a top and a skirt. Not rushed, which is nice when you're working alongside the tutorial and recreating the steps. MD should pay you a commission coz you're gonna generate some sales with your excellent tutorial.
I must also commend you for NOT adding background music. I detest background music in tutorial videos. Why do people do this? I'm here to learn, and I don't need to be 'entertained' whilst doing it. I don't find tutorial background music entertaining but instead find it distracting, weirdly contradictory in pacing, and often it competes with the speaker.
The bit at the end was cute. Liked and subbed! I'm looking forward to your other MD videos.
    Thanks again! :)
P.S. Though I'm a Max user, I set up my navigation tools like Maya since my Max is custom, but Maya nav has been copied by Substance Painter, ZBrush, etc. So, that felt the most natural.

Thank you! I tried that waistband thing you did in your Shorts, Jeans, and Pants video but the fabric keeps bunching up. I am making underwear/booty shorts for a male avatar. I don't know if my fabric is too small or if I'm sewing it wrong. But, I'm going to try it again when I have more time. In any regard I have learned so much from you. You're a blessing. 😁

What a great tutorial! Very basic for those of us who know nothing or little about sewing garments, but advanced enough to inform those who know about the 3D-world what just happened, like the references to subsurface or mirror modifiers. That alone explained so much.
The tutorial is a couple of years old, and thus some things are different in the current version of MD, but it teaches you a lot nevertheless.

WOW!!! I am so impressed by your tutorial! Your understanding of 2D and 3D and how to communicate to both minds is amazing!
I am going to sub and like and actually watch all your MD vids. I dont actually use MD but after watching you I am seriously considering the huge price tag for the full enterprise recurring!!!
What ever I end up buying I think MD owes you a commish check.

    • @LoriGriffiths
      @LoriGriffiths  6 ปีที่แล้ว

I think I've sold a lot of MD subscriptions over the years with my videos and book. Although MD doesn't give me any commission, I have been awarded an Evangelist for two years. That includes a free one-year subscription, which is very nice.

Lol I loved the ending, made my day. Again, thanks. Free education.. Free ADVANCED education. I can't even donate a cent right now, but as a scraping by student of 3D animation, I hope the contribution goes full circle in that maybe I'll help make something for a family member's favorite movie one day.
