Great tut. I would only suggest to lower particle distance to 8 as a triangles and then retopo it to quads. Triangles will give you more realistic results than quads while simulating.
so, here I am 2 yrs later and using MD 11. I found the tutorial well done however, recognizing the tools and where they are in the newer version. I'm still a newbie and even Blender has changed a bit, and I'm a newbie there as well. But thank you for this tutorial.
Yes, I Filled him with jelly, and tossed him in powdered sugar, to create a sweet, but pricey, Australian Doughnut. Jokes aside, he is still alive and working hard. There are lots of people behind the scenes here at Poliigon, and for this tutorial, he appointed me, as I have more experience with Marvelous Designer.
I've tried it and when I was sewing the pillows , I realised that they are not fitting in the chair ! You just skip the making of the other pillows, which is super important, because they are different shapes, not just a rectangles.
@@MasonMenzies Any chance you'll tweet on progress with this? I'm very curious to replicate it in blender. I've tried Marvelous and it's great but my occasional use doesn't justify the $$.
Very late response here, but this is usually cause by one of two things. 1. One of your pillow sides has flipped normals 2. One or more of your edges were not stitched.
I was just looking this tutorial for the pressure setting, and I was totally surprised ! If I will increase pressure of cloth in my PC, it flew away from 3D space. Please help me tell what settings should I change to stop these fly away problems...
Ah yes, the wonders of cloth simulation. I have had this many times as well, and there is usually a few possible causes. The most likely cause, is that your pattern is not air tight. check to make sure all your seams are stitched. The next most likely cause, is that one of your pattern pieces is backwards. Meaning, the normal direction could be facing inwards, rather than outwards. You can tell if it's backwards by the color. there will be a dark side, and a light side to your pattern. Make sure the dark side faces the inside of your cushion. Another possible cause, is if you have a pillow case on the cushion, the pillow case might have pressure, which for me, caused the pillow to ride off into the sunset. If none of those work, my last guess is that you only applied pressure to one half of the patterns. make sure you select all pieces and then add the pressure. Hope that helps.
Hi Abdullah. Thanks for asking. Sorry for the slow reply. Basically, the corner/side pieces are sewn to both the back rest, and bottom seat. If you want to, you can explore the project files via the Dropbox link in the video description.
That looks so fluffy. One question, could I also add a 3D object and place it on a pillow, such that the pillow collides to the 3D object and changes it form? Like when putting a book on a pillow.
I do not believe that Marvelous Designer has Rigid Body Physics. But, You can add in an object, and manually move it into place with the gizmo, while the simulation is running. Then it will interact with the cloth. But, I do not think you could simulate something dropping on it, if that's what you mean.
@@MasonMenzies Thanks for the answer! I think I will try it out. I currently work on a skull sculpt and thought it would look cool to put it on a pillow after seeing this video :D
Unfortunately, 3D sewing was only implemented in version 8. However, like I mentioned, learning to sew in 2D space is a very valuable skill to have. Though I have 3D sewing, I still do most of my sewing in 2D, as it's faster, and once you get the hang of it, more intuitive.
Inside Blender. I duplicated the vertices along the edge of the cushions, added a skin modifier and Sub division surface modifier, and then made it share the same material as the cushions.
I have not tried it in 3DsMax, personally. But it can be done in Blender. Andrew has a great video on his twitter, showing how to make a quick pillow in 2.82
haha, yes, it is. My personal license is a MD 8 license, as I bought it as a perpetual license. But I wanted the latest version for the video, so I bought a one month subscription.
utku demir 😂 i couldn’t figure out how it works so I used another way: add internal lines and sew them could do the same thing. Maybe you can try it out
Took me a while to find an answer. This worked for me: Select the two fabrics you cloned, right click and "Remove Linked Editing"! Now it wont show that error :)
I'm very curious what that might be? I tried creating it using the inset seams, on a large pattern, and then sewing the inset seams together, and creasing them. But that method took too long, and also did not allow for different sizes and shapes of cushions.
Ah yes. The piping, I did in Blender, as in Marvelous Designer you can only add piping across one pattern, not multiple. In Blender, I just duplicated the vertices around the edge of my chair, added a skin modifier and subsurface modifier, and then made it share the same texture as the chair.
@@MasonMenzies thank you so much. Great tut. Awesome. Hope Andrew is doing great. I learnt everything I know about Blender from him from 8years ago. Thank you so much
We tried to keep the info on creating the pillow, mostly within Marvelous designer, as that was the focus of the training. The details around the pillows are best done in another 3D package. In my case I used blender. Which you can see in reference pictures inside the project files. Which were just renders of the chair I made. To make the piping around the cushions, I selected all the vertices along the seams, duplicated and separated them into their own object. Then I used the Skin modifier in Blender, along with the Subdivision Surface modifier. Hope that helps anyone :)
And Andrew is not gone :) He will, no doubt, be back doing more. But, for this topic, he appointed me, as I have the experience with Marvelous Designer.

I agree, the monthly is fairly steep if you're a freelance or hobbyist artist. They do have a perpetual option however, which is a one time fee of $490. Which for a software of this power, is fair in my opinion.
I've tried it and when I was sewing the pillows I realised that they are not fitting in the chair ! He just skips the making of the other pillows, which is super important, because they are different shapes, not just a rectangles.
I personally disagree. Sculpting might feel more natural, but getting a realistic cloth look and feel is very hard, and takes much more time. So yes, possible, and maybe for some "Easier" but I would recommend learning the simulation tools out there, as they do it right.

you mean retopo the entire thing in Blender, or just switch it to quads in Marmoset itself after changing the res?
