    I Tried NO OILS NO BUTTERS On My Type 4 Natural Hair And THIS Happened!
    Hey guys! So I tried the no oils no butter challenge, also known as the 30 day hair detox. Now please keep in mind that I did this challenge in my own way and did not follow everything suggested on the hair detox website. I wanted to really see how my hair would respond without the use of "oils" and "butters" in my natural hair. I hope you enjoy this kids natural hair routine twist tutorial. If you do enjoy this video please give it a thumbs up (that really helps my channel), and also please consider subscribing for more content 😊.

    I’ve been in the no oil no butter camp for a year, and I’m NEVER going back 🙌🏽 as you mentioned, adding oils to my hair would have me believe it was “moisturized” because of how soft it felt, but by month 2 without them I could *see* that it wasn’t. Hey Cammy,
    I've been following the method since March 2021. For the first time in 61 years, my hair is past shoulder length. My hair is light and easy to manage. I still use a couple of products with oil in the top 5 ingredients. Proper cleansing, product selection and application were my biggest take aways from the 30 day detox. I'm very intentional about product selection. I don't need tons of products or a "wash day".
    The doux mousse def is my all purpose go to styler. I don't subscribe to hair typing, but mine falls more in the 4a area since I have cleaned all the gunk off my strands. I used to think it was 4b/4c, but my strands have definitely become smoother since I now take better care of it.

      Hello 👋🏾 Belinda! Thank you for taking the time to comment and share your experience with the 30 day hair detox. I found this experience very interesting and liberating in many ways for myself. Firstly, just getting over the habit of putting raw oils and raw butters in my hair was a little tough because I wanted to lean on what I knew that worked for me on the past. I have products I love that have oil in them first 5 ingredients that I used which is why I made sure to state I did my own version of this challenge with the focus of just not putting raw oils and raw butters in my hair. My hair definitely transformed and even more surprising is how well my hair responded to mousses. Prior to this it would just feel like products would only really sit on top of my hair and now I actually feel like my hair can take on moisture much better.

    I've been natural all my life (except 9mos when I lost my dang mind} and never learned to use raw oil and butter. So what seems like a trend or movement to many in the natural hair community is just how I've always taken care of my hair. Hair care for me was simple and 2hr+ wash days were not part of my routine. So I didn't want to complicate it by adding oil, butter, prepoo, LOC, LCO, or any of the popular methods within the community.

Some fail to realize that the raw oils/butters are just going to exacerbate the problem that they think those products are going to fix. Proper haircare routine (CCS) and quality, well formulated products will get your hair all the way together. I’m 7 months in and my hair is 90% hydrated. I have a small section in the back that’s not fully hydrated yet. It is definitely a process but well worth it. I used Eco styler in the past, plus raw shea butter. I had great definition but my hair was stiff and dry and never lasted past 3 days. Now I have definition and body. There are videos out there where people only did the 30 day detox. It definitely takes longer than 30 days to reach all the benefits. I’m happy where my hair is currently and excited for my progress. By the time I reach a year, you won’t be able to tell me nothing. 😂

    I finally tried this detox with a spin as well. My deep conditioner is the sole product that has cold-pressed oils; the Raw Sugar Healing Hair Masque. At first, I thought that maybe I'd be messing things up with this one step, but once I used the technique the stylist instructed (just add water, not more conditioner, and detangle) my hair was thriving. We can really get away from thick butters and oils, especially for us type 4 girls who yearn for a quick wash and go.
    Edit: I'm reading a lot of people who are against this detox, I guess the sound of "no oils, no butters" is a little intimidating considering that the natural hair community has sworn by sealing your ends, shea butter, coconut oil, etc. but y'all, this detox really works for wash and gos. If you ever felt like "my hair just doesn't do that", the detox is perfect for that kind of person.

    • @CammyjOfficial
      @CammyjOfficial  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello 👋🏾! I think it boils down to learning technique and using the right products for that persons hair. Just like any new skill, it’s going to take time to understand and get the right application process. The “detox” step I think is the hardest for people. Also, some people aren’t washing their hair properly and Detangling it properly leading to breakage and damage. It took me some time to overcome the learning curve for this method. After a couple of washes and application I was able to make it work for me. I personally don’t think there’s anything wrong with using oils and butter in hair if that’s what works for that person, but if they want to try this method then they have ti be willing to give it time and also take the steps to wash their hair weekly properly and apply moisture rich products to their hair.

    As I stated in another video, I am about 85-90% sold on the no oils/butter method. Because my hair is high porosity, I still feel I need to use an oil to seal in moisture in the winter/dry mos. Overall, it would seem this method is ideal for folks with low porosity hair. On the contrary, I have no problem getting moisture into my hair. The issue is retaining it.

      Hi hi 👋🏾! Per the creators of the method they still believe raw oils aren’t needed to seal, however, I believe people should do what works for them. I am a high porosity hair, high density, course stranded 3c/4a curlie and no other hair gel works for me besides eco styler gel. I clarify, moisturize shampoo, and deep condition. I do not need to use added oils/butters. My hair is thriving. I tried using other gels, but eco will always be my topper gel to seal my hair. I just ensure I clarify and shampoo regularly )bi weekly.

    I didn't know this was a thing, but I just tried it out of experimentation. I've got low porosity, very fine strands. My hair brakes so easy. Oils tend to just sit on my hair and make it feel greasy. It occurred to me that the oil was creating a barrier that made it harder for my hair to absorb the moisturizers I use. It's been a week. I find my hair isn't braking as much, it's soft and doesn't require as much product, but most of all, my scalp isn't itching the way it use to and I'm getting less knoting and tangles. I'm going to keep doing this and see what happens.

Oprah, stating " Oils and butters clogs hair pores and we shouldn't put oil on the scalp" I stopped using oils, for 4 years and my hair paid the price!! Dry scalp, brittle hair. During that 90's I only shampoo and condition 1 time a month! My hair didn't retain moisture at all! Fast forward. I have learned that my fine, thin strands and scalp loves oils and my hair strands loves butter! I had discovered, a while back, that my hair turned out better without sealing with raw oil. But I decided to participate in the detox and eliminate products that contained oil or butter in the first 5 ingredients for 30 days. This revealed that I had a layer of build up that I didn’t realize was there. Also, curls that I didn’t know I had popped out. I am still a twist out girl. However, I did learn better ways of shampooing and conditioning and what true hydration looks and feels like. I don’t use raw oils or butters anymore. But I do use light oil blends (Melanin Hair Care) or a silicone serum for the anti humidity properties. I tried mousse, but whatever alcohol agent they put in there to make your style dry faster was drying my hair out and leaving a terrible film on my hair.

    I've been natural for over a decade myself. I have the length, but it is so, so, so dry 😭 On the occasions that I wear my hair out, it stays mositurised for a maximum of two days before it dries up and starts to tangle. Hopefully, this method is exactly what my hair is screaming out for 😭🤞🏾

    • @CammyjOfficial
      @CammyjOfficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

  • @abig2582
    @abig2582 ปีที่แล้ว

    I mainly tried it cause my hair wasn't thriving when using the LOC method, my wash and go's were stiff, dry and it barely last a week. Whereas when I tried the 30 hair day detox, I spent less time washing my hair - I have a better understanding of how my hair behaves in between wash days or throughout the week- I've spent less money- I look at products for its intended purpose as opposed to fixing my hair - Ive started to practice healthier hair habits -I've accepted my hair for what it is instead of fighting against it.The stylists that have advocated for no oils and butters have truly changed my hair. However if people are getting their desired results from using the LOC method then that should be okay as well. Even if people like oils and butters I still think its great cause its mainly about accepting your hair rather than finding a new product every month to fix your hair( such as these natural hair trends- mielle oil, coconut oil, rice water, onion juice, clay masks)

    • @CammyjOfficial

    Hey, unfortunately MY hair is corn husk, potato chip, cracker DRY so I will always continue to use butters and oils in my natural hair(for 12 years) it works for me. However, I ALWAYS CLARIFY my hair on wash day(once a month for me). I start with my scalp so maybe I’m blessed because I’ve never had a problem & my hair thrives(nearly mid back length). I definitely agree with everything does NOT work for EVERYBODY and knowing your hair porosity/density is KEY😊👍🏾👍🏾
