    Is dryness your biggest natural hair issue?

    • @StevieMStarks

      Now it is! But it's because we live in a dry climate (Vegas) now. So now my old products don't work for this climate, so I'm a mission to find products that work for this climate!

    I don’t have dry hair anymore because I did the following:
    Determined my porosity (I’m high porosity because I have colored my hair).
    That helped me to buy the right products for my hair. I now buy products that have of course water, but also aloe vera, marshmallow root, slippery elm. All my products must have at least 2 of these high in the ingredient list. Being high porosity meant I also needed a heavier oil to seal in my moisture. I was using light weight oils like sweet almond which did not help at all. When I switched to avocado oil (sometimes I use olive oil), that was indeed a game changer. My hair would now stay moisturizer for 3-4 days. Finally, I figured out my hair has its own moisture cycle. It is not going to go a week without without refreshing. So usually I refresh (with a product that has aloe vera, slippery elm or marshmallow root in it and reseal lightly with my oil just as it begins to show signs of dryness. Oh, one more thing. I became a lazy natural and stopped pre-pooing. Bad decision for me. When I went back to prepooing with Avocado oil a few hours before I washed (I never co wash) my hair, this helped in changing my moisture level in my hair.
    Hope this helps another high porosity naturalista.

    Yup. Product buildup is causing my dry hair for sure. I should've known, because the previous fortnight when I washed my hair, I didn't prepoo and I used a clarifying shampoo for the first wash, then I used a moisturizing shampoo. Those two weeks my hair looked shiny and felt less dry than usual. Then this last wash day, I prepooed with oil, and only used the moisturizing shampoo.... and my hair is currently looking dull and feeling drier. Go figure, I use enough oil and grease during my day to day upkeep- I should've known I didn't need to prepoo with OIL! LOL. It seems that I need to clarify every time I wash- every two weeks! 😅

      Yes can’t wait for your video!!!! I was co washed and oiled and buttered down 😭!! Clogging my hair with product and wondering why I could never moisturize it. There is a TH-camr who is also a scientist and she backs up her statements with science.
    The strand test for porosity is just one level of porosity....According to science most Black people are high porosity and I believe this. When I first began my journey, my hair was hella dry. This occurred because I mainly used Deep Conditioner and just totally paid no attention to protein.I changed my routine on my own before I'd heard the science but once I heard what she said it made sense.

    I have been trying to get a trim and not one of my stylist will trim it! I ask for it and they say I don't need it. I have only had 1 trim in 3 years! I suffer from dry hair and my most recent stylist said it is moisture damaged, also that I need to always dry my hair. Do not sleep with wet hair or do wet and go.

    • @CammyjOfficial
      @CammyjOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello 👋🏾! It seems like you have to find a new stylist and not take no for an answer. The trims really help. Now, if your ends are perfect after all these years then maybe your stylist is right. I just know for me my ends would be ate up after 3 years with no trim. How do you typically wear your hair? If you have moisture fatigue your stylist can do a protein treatment to help fortify your hair.

    • @chocolateeyespretty
      @chocolateeyespretty ปีที่แล้ว

      She is one of the best in natural hair care, so I will keep her. The thing is she is not the first to tell me no to a trim. It is something I have consistently heard. From African, Dominican, White, Black, doesn't matter, they all say no. The last trim was after 4 years of hearing no. They say you only need them when you need them. I try to trim a little at home, however, I have no clue what I am doing and no videos help. I can follow a styling video easy, throw in a trim, and I am lost! Lol

    • @CammyjOfficial
      @CammyjOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I definitely cannot trim my own hair. It would turn out a mess if I did. I always need a trim each year, but I get what you’re saying. It all depends on the stage of the persons hair.

      I stopped using oils as a part of the “no oils no butter” test on my natural hair. The only oil i really used was grapeseed oil, and I’ve since stopped using that too. I do use oil when I do scalp massages and I only really concentrate it on my scalp. 99% of hair products already have oils in them, so there’s really no need to add raw oils to your hair as well. Shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioners, stylers, they all already have oils in them.
